Finished the ass raping that was the last 2 levels of Castlevania III. Even with Save States, the game was amazingly cheap.

Decided I'm going to tackle Earthbound Zero next. Followed by the other two Eartbound games.

It's a damn shame, I would've shelled out $50 for the 3 games on my Nintendo DS, but I was pretty much forced to use my PSP instead. Video Game companies are stupid.

I just spent the better part of an hour and a half Liquid Metal Slime hunting. I'm almost at the a safe level where I can just glide through the rest of the game without having to grind any more. I just want to finish this damn game so I can start Chrono Trigger!

I think the theory was if you finished a race there would always be the start of another one nearby. I tend to restart in racing games a lot if I feck up an early corner or something, so I do miss restart when its not there.

Played some of the TNA game last night, its quite bad, even by wrestling game standards. Glad I only paid $15 for it.

Haven't had much time for playing any games the last few days, but I did manage to finally beat Deus Ex with all the endings. An awesome game that deserves an HD remake someday, and without a doubt my favorite FPS of all time.

Gotta try and get back into Xenosaga 3 today. I was about halfway thru the first dungeon on the second disc, so I guess I'm around the halfway point of the game then.

I really don't understand the move here... making it freely available in the EU store goes against the overall marketing strategy they had with GS to push units... dumbasses. Honestly, most of the people that come into GS to reserve KZ2 for the demo do NOT know anything about setting up a European account. In fact most of them probably don't even know there's a seperate store for Europe. You have to remember most of the people that go into GS are only slightly above casual gamers.

Hard? Easy? What's more important is that it just ain't fun. It's got that typical Midway "instead of genuinely programming the AI to be more intelligent as you ratchet the difficulty up, we'll just make them reverse/counter your moves more frequently" crap. Like MKII and MK3/UMK3.

UMK3 was the end of what I thought was playable/enjoyable. MKvDCU was surprisingly decent for a 3Dish based fighter, but definitely not anything more than a rental.

I don't think programming the computer to do things that no human player could do in a million years and giving it some sort of ESP into what you're doing by delaying your command input counts as AI, persay. But yes. Fuck their "AI".

So true. It's not quite Artificial Intelligence, it's more like All-knowing Instinct, where they have an answer for everything. Liu Kang will instantly shut you down with air fireballs if you try to jump. They'll counter your uppercut with one of their own and they don't have to crouch to do one. They just perpetually walk forward until you are dead. My friend calls that the March of Death. The first 2 AI opponents will just lay down and die for you, then the third one has some blood feud against you and will probably take you out. Etc. etc. etc. It all adds up to the most annoying and frustrating AI around.

And for the record, I will play VF5 and SCIV on the hardest difficulty and win, but it takes me 2 hours to beat MK2 on "easy". Kitana fan traps on Shao Kahn puts him down easily at least.

Tried the RE5 demo in local co-op with my friend. We got through Public Assembly, but it took a few tries. Did Shanty Town once and died at the chain saw guy and quit for the night.

Didn't really seem much easier in co-op than in solo--game is definitely a bit hard for my liking.

Will have to get the Halo Wars demo downloading before I hit the sack tonight. I like the series but never really cared much for RTS games but will give the demo a go.

--wow at the graphics. best I've seen on a console game, for sure. Still not Crysis level, but consoles don't have that kind of power, so it's okay.

--The cover system is really good. It's a little like playing Gears, but as a FPS.

--Everything I like is undermined by the controls. Even at full sensitivity, it feels jerky and cumbersome. I shouldn't have to press the analog stick practically all the way before the reticule starts moving. wtf :\

turning down the sensitivity actually helped! It doesn't feel good but it's not analog acceleration hell anymore. If there are any run and gun sections, I'm fucked since it takes 10 minutes to turn.

I don't get it though...am I not supposed to be accurately firing in this game? Between the serious recoil that sprays bullets everywhere (and doesn't reward holding the analog steady to compensate for recoil) and "simulated weight," it seems like Guerilla had a different philosophy about how the game should be played.

Graphics are fucking 'mazing though. I had fun just tossing grenades in the warehouse to see debris go everywhere and shooting at stuff in dark places to see the lighting/shadow effects. That shit is sick!

I think I'll pick it up when I can get it used from EB/GS.

Seems to be the non-fanboy concensus that KZ2 is pretty but otherwise unremarkable.

I'm starting up this website with this dude, but he's totally a lost cause of the Sony Kool-Aid. Trying to explain to me yesterday that the bullet hit detection in killzone 2 how the guys accurately react to bullets hitting them in various places makes them react is a "revolutionary genre changing innovation" or some bullshit.

It looks like call of duty to me, and I hate call of duty's single player.

Killzone 1 was shit, and the things I've seen about the second don't excite me much.

But still, I'm just an xbox fanboy because I don't love it. It looks okay, but I'd put my interest in it on the level of CoD:WaW. I'd probably play the multiplayer, but the single player is an afterthought.

Only thing going for it is graphics is not what was said, it was that it's a good shooter that gets by on having uber-graphics, which seems to be in line with things Chac, Rei, and Ninja Dog say too. RebelFM had some of the same things to say. It's good, but not great.

One thing that always bothered me about the game, and they might just not have shown this, but just like Call of Duty, the enemies kinda lack variety. It seems like you're always just shooting these same dudes. Like Half Life has the headcrabs, the zombies, the combine, and the striders, etc. and they all have a different pace, different feel. Everything I see of KZ2 is shooting at a dude with glowing eyes in various uniforms. A lot like shooting at a german/japanese soldier in various uniforms. That didn't excite me either.

There's nothing insulting about comparing it with a Call of Duty game. Last I checked, people seem to enjoy those, and they sell pretty well. Everything that gets said about Sony exclusives that isn't "MAN IT'S THE BEST EVER" gets turned into "MAN, THIS IS SHIT, SO'S SONY!"

I'm more excited about FEAR2 just because I liked the original a lot and the setting and mood is more interesting to me.

Fear has some variety with the soldiers, different ghost type things, mechs etc. Lack of variety in environments was killer in the first, hopefully the second one fixes that. And also the enemy AI was very good compared to other first person shooters.

Not saying Killzone doesn't have variety or good AI, as I know next to nothing about it. I don't own a PS3, and unlike Jer I'm wise enough to not waste time reading up on games I'll never play. :D

I loved FEAR but didn't like the FEAR 2 demo. Wasn't anywhere near as satisfying as FEAR was. FEAR was amazing, FEAR 2's demo was not. Which is a good thing in retrospect since I'm gonna blow so much money on SFIV.

I really liked the FEAR 2 demo. Was creepy as hell in the school, the guns felt great (loved the CoD style iron sights), loved the mech suit etc.

Also loved playing a good version on the 360. Played the first on the PC and that hampered my enjoyment since I hate keyboard/mouse controls and playing games on the PC in general after sitting at one at work all day.

Killzone 2, to me, seems like a Call of Duty game. You go to an area, shit's going down, nonstop gunfire, noise, smoke, etc. You have dudes yelling at you the whole time. Then you do something and a scripted event happens. If that's your thing, then more power to you.

The only thing I really didn't care for was the control. Everything else seemed pretty solid. It's just not my type of game.

The replicant soldiers in FEAR have just as much personality as the helghan soldiers in KZ2 - which is to say, none. They're there to die.

Difference is I'm interested in FEAR2 for more than the shooting of enemies.

FEAR doesn't have marines yelling at me to "BLOW UP THE GODDAMNED fuckING BRIDGE!!!!" every 5 seconds. FEAR is more up front, more personal, you aren't just one dude in a big ass war. I like the more up close and personal nature of it. It felt more like Call of Duty than anything, and I don't really care for CoD. FEAR doesn't feel like CoD.

If it's anything like the PSP Syphon Filters (and it is,) you have to switch control schemes immediately. So that the face buttons walk, and the analog stick aims? Did you do this?

PSP controls are one of the things that have kept me from buying one--though the main factor is just that I have little need for a portable and seldom touch my DS.

I've borrowed my brothers a few times, but just hate playing it as both the analog nub and the d-pad suck. It's a shame as the screen is so damn good.

I managed to get a sweet weapon in the demo, but the demo doesn't sell the tech that goes with it. It's painful! At least I'm not a Force or a Ranger, since it seems like Hunters get the most out of the demo.

That's the best way to go about it, simply keep a VERY small list of what you want to play. Otherwise you'll never get to play the more in-demand titles.

When I had GF, I usually only had 2-3 games on my Q at any given point.

They should just give you like 10 "finish this mission free" cards since nobody finishes those games anyway.

As much as I love GTAIV (I feel like i'm a lone supporter of the game here on CAG :cry:) I have to agree the most broken aspect of the game IMHO is the mission structure.

The simple answer is that the game really really needs a checkpoint system. it's even more apparent when playing the near end missions...


Looks like the first games I'm getting from Gamefly are Rock Band (to copy tracks), and Crisis Core.

Yep, the lack of a check point system was one of the big reasons I quit about half way through GTA4 (21hours, 50 some missions completed).

Just too annoying to have to do the whole thing over when you fail. Especially for longer missions where you find the place, have a big shootout, then have the cops show up etc. Annoying as hell to have to travel back there (cabs help) and do the shootout again if you die or get arrested trying to escape.

I've finished GTAIII, Vice City, San Andreas, Vice City Stories, Liberty City Stories, and GTAIV.

and yes, the games are bitches at time. A large reason why I kept playing was because I'm a huge fan of the series' multi-leveled humor.

Hmm. I'm actually playing through GTAIV again, and I'm liking it much, much more than I did when I first tried to play it. I'm not yet convinced that the narrative is as amazing as some make it out to be, but it *is* a decent story, and there's a lot to do in the world.

I've hit a brick wall in DQIV. I have no clue where to go and a FAQ isn't being helpful at all. Maybe it's time for a break from it and perhaps that would make it time to start Chrono Trigger... :-k Or maybe I'll just grind my characters up to level 40+ and complete the game with ease.

And I hated GTAIV. It did nothing for me. Now Saints Row 2... There's a game I could sink my teeth in to ;)

I've been playing a bit of yakuza lately. Fun game but god did I hate that boss that moves really fast almost like teleporting. At chapter 7 I believe just did the stuff for Date.

Beat Brave Fencer Musashi today. Fuck, the last dungeon was a pain in the ass. One section reminded me of SMB1's mazes where if you mess up, you have to start all the way back at the beginning. Final boss was kinda clever though, at least its last form. Might replay it and try to get everything next time around.

Also, I realized I haven't finished MGS4 yet. I'm on Act 5, might fire it up and finish it sometime soon.

good about the delay. Bethesda needs some serious quality control. The final DLC that opens up the ending and raises the level cap has some serious potential to wreak havoc on people's saves etc.

Love Fallout 3 to death, but Bethesda's games are fucked.

It starts out all well and good. Then the gameplay and narrative go in 2 different directions. Gameplay is obviously Niko killing tons of people. Story is Niko not wanting to kill people and whining about it (or just taking orders to go kill people without any objections.)

I appreciate what they tried, but there's no way to justify the story against the gameplay without being like "this guy is a total psychopath and....the police and detectives and everyone who would try to stop him are all on vacation."

I'm also having this experience -- I didn't get terribly far, but I started replaying the game on my PS3 (as opposed to 360) and I was having a blast with it. I got to the part where you first meet Dimitri.

the expansion introduces the dream class or something like that. i thought the class skills were incredibly overpowered compared to the others.

They really aren't very good. Granted I haven't played 4, but people constantly tell me not to.
