Is there any consensus on the point at which Okami starts to drag? I stopped quite a few months ago for that reason after climbing the Catcall Tower (20+ hours in), and after dealing with the Water Dragon over the weekend, I'm still feeling like they never wanted this game to end. Better question - does it pick up again sometime towards the end so I have something to look forward to if I power through?

dmaul1114

Good beer is expensive. 4 pack of Guinness is around $8 most everywhere. Hell I pay $10-15 fairly often for a single 1 pt, 6 oz bottle of a good micro brew or Beligian beer or a six pack of a good micro brew.

Also, Virginia has higher tax on alcohol than a lot of places so that adds some price for you. Most of my friends in Northern Va drive up to Maryland to by their alcohol.

Anyway, getting off topic and we have a beer thread here:

All the GSs near me are unbelievably small stores. Its funny because no other stores in the malls are of similar dimensions, so I'm not sure how they always manage to find the one room that is about 15 feet wide. The craziest GS I've come across is in the Columbia Mall. I honestly think it was a utility closet before they turned it into a store. My bedroom is bigger than that place.

yep, launch day here too. :)

when I play, I do like one part of a mission. in 3 hours. Just hit level 16. I think its a good sign, I just feel like I should have finished by now. On the other hand, even if I don't rush to finish it, I'll still play it for the rest of the year, especially after the level cap raise.

Oh wow, that's pretty much how I've been playing it! I'm level 15 though.

Yeah, I wasn't really concerned about that too much until Wombat mentioned it on the CAGcast, but now for sure I'd like to try and hit max cap before I finish the game--I'd hate for things to just end before I feel like I got what I wanted out of it, even if it is "replayable". (Backlog says "hi").

I'm really close to beating Chrono Trigger. I could try and beat the final boss right now, but I really want to do some of the side quests right now so I can level up so more. I find it interesting that a 15 year old SNES game has some of the best design choices in an RPG while some RPG's today have some of the worst, specifically leveling up your character(s).

In Chrono Trigger, no matter who's in your party, all characters gain EXP (whether they gain the same amount or not, I don't know). In some games though, like say...Eternal Sonata and Final Fantasy XII, characters have to be in your party to level up, making grinding so much worse and the game a lot more tedious.

Yeah, in other RPGs, the leveling up of party members usually means to me that several of my party aren't gonna get played, and I just wind up using the same set of characters.

Played a little more Xenosaga 3, but not much. I really want to get the Genesis collection coming out this week, but I kinda told my girlfriend that we wouldn't buy anything unnecessary until she could find another job. Hopefully she'll be employed before RE5 comes out.

Having just finished Eternal Sonata, I can say this isn't actually true. Non-active party members get 75% exp, I think.

I wish FF6 did that. I'm at the end of the game and I have to spend some time grinding with the 5-6 characters I never liked using(as well as Collecting some skills for a few characters). It's why I stopped playing it.

Of course you have to be in the party to gain AP, but you can't win 'em all.

Tell me how it is. I have been thinking about downloading it.
I have a feeling LIT's worth the $8 if you enjoy this sort of puzzler. It's probably short (2-3 hours) as it took me about 20 minutes to get through the first 5 of 30 levels. There can be a bit of trial-and-error if you don't want to take the time to plan out your actions at the beginning with your flashlight, but even so, replaying a minute or two of a level isn't a big deal should you die.

Well I'm noticing some separation, but it does snap back if I bring a character into a battle for a few fights. It's weird. I was mistaken about Eternal Sonata though. But it gets to a point where it's not worth leveling up other characters, whereas Chrono Trigger you want to. In Final Fantasy XII...yeah...if that was in place, I would've beaten it already. But because it's not in place, I'm 55 hours in and nowhere close to beating it.

It seems that most games are compatible. It usually says on the back of the box. As far as different cables and quality, the system itself generates the signal, so the build quality of the cable is the only concern. You can add a VGA port to a Dreamcast, if you can solder small connections and don't mind putting a VGA jack on the back of a DC.

I use this one (http://www.racketboy.com/store/dreamcast-vga-box-svideo-av.htm) that I got for $20 shipped a few years ago. It works perfectly, and even has Svideo outputs built into it. You might have to hit ebay to get one. It does look like it came straight off the streets of Hong Kong though.

JS1, just beware of ebay adapters that say they're VGA, when in fact they're just composite to VGA converters.
You won't be getting the beautiful-better-than-Wii-lolz VGA picture from your Dreamcast with that.

Wow, I played L4D last night with my friends with an ancient cell phone wired mic I had.

Yes, beware of the composite to VGA converters. They are pure trash.

I've been using a standard cell phone headset with my 360 because my 360 headset stopped working. I do miss the mute and volume, but you can take the control part of the 360 headset and solder on a different headset. I might just do that.

The main problem with the save system is the timed gameplay. If you wanted to save the game sometimes you would need to go out of you way to find one. Which would also waste some of your time. Also I'd like more then ONE save file in DR2. I don't think that is too much to ask.

More than one save file would be nice. While I do have a few small complaints about the game, IMO I really enjoyed the game I think it's a really solid game for the 360. I think people condemn the game so much because they let themselves get overly hyped on the subject matter of the game, and then badger the game's flaws to the point that they convince themselves that they don't like and it's a "terrible" game because it wasn't exactly like they wished/hoped it would be.

Capcom has a huge list of things we're not allowed to talk about in this preview. Did you know that **** ********* is actually *****? Yeah, pretty surprising.

My guess to that is JILL VALENTINE is actually ALIVE w00t!

Finally got around to playing Banjo & Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts.. I know that Rare apparently dropped hints at new Killer Instinct and Battletoads games in there via tht computer that mentions they're in the "pipeline", but did anyone else notice that the Battletoads pause menu music plays during some loading screens?
Next gen KI and Battletoads......... oh man.

Cool tidbit, I didn't know that.

I just finished DQIV. It took me about 30 hours, give or take. It was a great game, but maybe a bit over hyped imho. Not to say that I didn't enjoy playing the game. I mean, I was never once bored with it. I'm going to start Chrono Trigger tonight. I'm very excited.

Wasn't this known a while ago? I seem to recall someone found her name listed among character models in the gameYeah some people hacked the demo and found what looks like a possible list of enemies in the game. You she Jill's name listed twice.. Also, doing some looking around I saw there is a trophy called Masters of Removing that you get by saving some special

I'm pretty sure this was a prank and not a serious "we're developing these things" nod. I remember seeing shit about it on joystiq and kotaku when N&B first dropped.

MGS4 is annoying. I went ahead and started from where I was (Meryll and the FROGS). That part was actually kind of hard and completely un fun. Now I'm out on the field trying to be stealthy which is nearly impossible. Of course, there is no consequence to running and gunning since the normal enemies are complete and total FUCKING MORONS.

I wish I was playing fucking MGS3.

Well, Dead Rising does suck, it did have potential.

Get rid of timed gameplay and let people play how they want to and I bet it'd be a lot more fun.
Agreed. DR was a huge disappointment for me.

Speaking of bad games, signed out X-Blades. Terrible game.

Rare really sucks about that. They know they have franchises that fans want to see but instead of dropping legit refrences to actually working on said franchises , they just tease fans by saying "we know you want this but you can't have it". Just like the years of avoiding the truth about the Stop N Swap thing. It was kinda funny at first , but just got really annoying when instead of giving answers they just give fans insulting jokes instead.

Having a job makes playing games tough.

This 100%. My backlog has grown the most since I started my job 7 years ago. A deadly combination of money to buy more games and no/less time to play them. :(

same here... first game I played that ever felt like "this could never have been done on prev generation of consoles"

Smash bros I never liked how it played... if it played using this engine, I'd probably enjoy it more:

Does anyone else feel like the cutscenes in the MGS games are rewards for for the gameplay? It seems like every time I put up with some bullshit segment of the game it gives me a kickass action cutscene or one that moves the story forward a lot.

I think there's really only 1 bullshit segment of the game, and you haven't even hit it yet.

Remember, I've only played through act one of 4. I'm talking about the series as a whole.

Getting pissy over too much story in MGS4 is ridiculous. It's the best part of the game.

I can think of one very short part of the game I may not have liked, but I loved everything else. Playing the game for the first time was magical.

MGS4 is no where near my fave in the series. Plus it's super easy.

Still prefer the original... even the original's graphics as well.

Oh God do I love limited graphics. it's a strange obsession of mine.

on that note Metal Gear Acid 2 is still the best metal gear game I've played. Superb story as well.
