Actually, the realization that this was really not like the other SF games hit me yesterday and it was kinda weird. Like, there's sort of that style you expect from the game after playing so much of the previous ones... and this isn't like that. But then, I'm sure people said the same thing when 3 and the Alpha series came out.

Either way, I love the game so far.

Today, I'm playing find data for my econometrics model. But luckily, the survey of consumer finances has everything I need. It's funny - there's some dudes on this survey who had $250,000 of credit card debt. Like, there were only 5 of them, but there were a shit ton of people with outrageous amounts less than that. At some point, a ghangsta hasta call it quits on them cards!

There were also dozens of people who had completed fewer than 3 years of school, which was troubling in its own way.

Anyway, I still don't own SF4, and I won't until Friday. :(

Alright, so I played through the story mode with Zangief and my impressions:

I still don't like the art, not as much as I didn't like it before, but there's still something off setting about it.

The movement and character animations feel soo much slower and heavier than any other SF game I've been playing (Alpha 3, ST, 3S). Having the game run on a 2D plane with 3D characters still feels and looks really awkward.

Overall, I'm not disliking the game as much as I thought I would, but I still feel like 3S is a better game....but maybe I just need to let this game rub off on me a bit. I remember the first time I played 3S, I absolutely hated it and then a few months later I came back and got really hardcore into it, so maybe that will happen SFIV.

Also, Seth is a little bitch.

I pre-ordered Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for 360 back at the start of the New Year.

The game came out a week ago and I still hadn't gotten my copy that I got charged for over a week ago. So, my copy gets here today and they sent me the PS3 version of the game. And, they don't offer an exchange on it, so I have to pay the shipping to send it back, let them get it, process the return, re-credit my account and then re-order the game to only wait another week for them to ship it back to me. I'm done with Amazon.

The buttons should be the only real soldering part and it's not that bad, it looks like -- you just need a basic soldersucker and a soldering iron with a small tip. Though for the EX2, I hear you have to widen the button holes to change to sanwa buttons.

There's generic story mode for each character with an 8 stage "tour" that ends fighting your rival (7) then seth (8)... though the rivals are a joke. everyone hates chun-li and abel apparently... :-s

other than that, there's survival modes (normal, hard, with specific fight limits (no UC for computer, etc.)), time attack modes, and then 5 challenges for each character based off combos and specials.

I wouldn't say it's a single player game... I'm going to give it a second chance over Live at some point, but I'm mostly done with it unless I get the urge to try to cheese whore some of the game...

it's fun as hell on its own and I would be occupied even by playing various difficulties on single player, but there isn't much for people who want lots of modes and replay value from the single player mode.

You can unlock characters, do challenges that are pretty fun, and that's about it. It depends on whether you play to learn the game or just play to beat the CPU...

Yeah, this game would be a no brainer when I was younger, and had lots of friends and siblings to play locally with. Also the computer would be fun to play against then too.

I really need a stronger singleplayer experience though.
Playing online seems ok, but I really dislike the lag, even if it is minimal, I know it's there.

Sounds ok, I like unlocking stuff, and I like challenges. I wouldn't mind springing for it when it's a bit cheaper.

I think my problem with the game stems from the use of the 3D models and the "2.5-D gameplay". It doesn't feel quite right to me. Hating the graphics style and the new characters doesn't help either. ;)

But They showed Black Widow asking an infected Wolverine to kill me... I was kind of hoping I'd get to go another round with him or just see him attacking me. But it just ended on that.

No English support that I could tell. I only played it for a few minutes and really had no idea on what the controls were. Everything was Japanese so I couldn't tell what the dialogue was, so not too clear on the story. After a few cutscenes, you basically just go into a building and find yourself in this big room and have to beat up 20-or so guys. After you beat up on the boss of the group enough, he pulls out a sword and things got tough for me after that.

If I knew exactly what the controls did it probably would have been a better experience for me, otherwise I was just mashing buttons and whuppin up some thugs.

Don't know if there's more to the demo after that fight, cause the boss kicked my ass. I'll try it again later and see if I can beat him.

I beat up the guys in the club, pulled out my nunchucks and giant stick for the 'boss'.
Ran around outside, got into a couple street fights. Pulled off some cool moves somehow, like slamming a guy into his buddy on the floor.
Went to a convenience store, looked at magazines with some school girls.

Went to Club Sega and played some games (2.5D shooter, UFO catcher, and trivia game, VF5 is unplayable :( ), decided to visit a hostess club, didn't go well.

Then fought some Americans who didn't speak Japanese with a bicycle.
Apparently you can do karaoke, but I missed that.

I was a bit underwhelmed by the graphics for the enviroments when moving around. The cutscenes look fantastic though.

Yep, I tried playing with a guide for a couple games in the PS1 era, and while you can totally do that and finish the game, it really sucks away any enjoyment you might've gotten out of the game.

It also depends on how many good/bad choices you make. I think there is a total of 7 that you can make. But yeah there is that choice towards the end of Act 3 effects how the good/bad ending turns out.

I beat Dead Space finally last week after playing it from the start of DEC till last week. Loved the game and makes the Resident evil 5 controls feel like complete crap.

Yeah, that was a good one. I think the only map I really didn't like much out of the non-campaign maps was the snow one. The Cornell team was better than us at that one.

Having played them only months apart, it felt just like 1 to me. Can't believe how many weapons/armor/environment/character assets they reused. I don't think anyone could get away with that in 2009.
I was fine with the game looking like its predecessor, though the fact that they reused some of the more unique set-pieces from the original (the blades sign in the first city, for example) irked me. They actually increased the number of weapons by a huge amount - something that I would normally support whole-heartedly - but so many of the guns are useless/incredibly same-y. At least they made melee and hand-to-hand viable options.

They also really tried to improve AI, but they fucked it up entirely. Quest-related NPCs can walk off the map, stray gunshots can create all-out, city-spanning wars for no real reason (How does one of my allies accidentally hitting a prostitute in the middle of a huge gunfight turn the entire fucking area against me?), and the orders that you give to NPCs are at best ignored, and at worst contradicted at every opportunity (do not tell Sulik never to run, whatever you do). Someone on QA was a dogfucker there...

And yeah, I didn't like the story, either.

Actually, I saw the Blades sign in a few places. I think it was supposed to be an ad moreso than a reference to the Blades gang. Yeah, I'm impressed at the weapons they added, but there were so many of them, all made available at the same time, and so expensive, that I just went to the FAQ to see which ones I should buy instead of experimenting.

The story was cool, but bonehead FAQ writers kind of ruin it with "Now you meet the mysterious Enclave. By the way, you'll find this out later, but here's exactly who the Enclave are:..." Dumb.

Well, I received my laser yesterday. It turns out it was a white clip which some believe is a high fail rate laser from china. I took my system apart guess what? The factory laser was a white clip. The 40gb model I have seems to be the ones that have laser issues, due to cheap lasers. I figured that because mine was a white clip, I might as well try it. The "new" laser read a dvd, bluray movie fine. When I tried a ps3 game, it would still not read; it would spin a few times, stop and try again. After trying different disks for about and hour, I tried cleaning my old one, putting it back in and still did not work.

The process(laser replacement) is not that hard to I can be done with the whole process in about 30-45 mins. I asked the sell for an exchange for a "brown" clip.

Which I thought I was getting because that what was pictured in the auction.

I'm getting to the point I'm not sure what to do. Because if I send it to sony who is to say they wont put in a similar laser,Sony only offers a 90 warranty on the repairs so I don't know if I should see if I can fix it myself and then sell the unit and buy a newer model which should have two lasers instead of one. Or just fix it and see what happens over time.

If playing online against some CAGs doesn't change my mind, I think I'm either going to eventually sell my copy or try to trade it for RE5.

its weird, i used to have that problem when i first got my ps3 but then it just went away magically.

just got home from a senior retreat yesterday...popped in SFIV...the art/animation style kinda kills it for me. Though i've only played it for 15 min, so i know i should give it more time

That should only be a temporary charge.

The only thing Live readily has over PSN is more users with headsets since they're easier to use. Which just means you get more people calling you a $$$ when you lose and even more calling you a $$$$er $$$ when you win.
