I'm super tempted to get DoW 2 after hearing about it on Rebel FM, but I'm not sure how well my system would run it.

I've got

2 Gigabytes Corsair Ram
2.0 ghz AMD Athalon X2 3800+

Can I run it on medium settings smoothly?

KZ2 Multiplayer is kind of fun. But I kind of wish I had some more options at the start. I don't really like any of my starting weapons in the game.

I'm sure they'd listen! It's an interwebz petition! It's almost as legit and the Bill of Rights or the Bible!

Hah. But seriously, I've been on such a JRPG kick. I knocked out DQIV, started Chrono Trigger, started FF9, stopped Chrono Trigger, started Digimon World(psx), stopped Digimon World, picked Chrono Trigger back up, rinse and repeat. I've seriously clocked at least 10 hours on each game. More so on Chrono Trigger and Digimon. Digimon is fucking crack for the mind.

Dear GGT,

I love Killzone 2. But I don't love that I have no time to enjoy it.

Why don't they make "epic" games on handhelds that bring in the same level of excitement as console games?

Chrono Trigger brings me more excitement and joy than KZ2 ever could...

Riddick demo is alright, but $60 for this? hell no. They added some ugly ugly FOV and called it a day.

You guys didn't think those zombie monster things were totally incongruent with the plot/setting/story/reality of the rest of the game?

No. Because I don't think the game wasn't supposed to be totally realistic. I think it was meant as a playable Indiana Jones type game -- and based on all the legends and stories of what really happened to Francis Drake and the like, I think the were a-ok, just like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was okay when the priest starts pulling out human hearts. Action/adventure movie or game, it still fit the bill I think they were intending to fit.

On the latter half of Uncharted:

The descendants part I really didn't like, because it was a bit too much into the fantasy realm. But I guess it followed the indiana jones theorem of normal-ridiculous. My gf loved watching me play it, because it was very cinematic. Last level was really bad though. Giving the boss a sniper rifle and not being able to kill him legit? I thought you were better than that naughty dog.

Your wish would make the last level/confrontation a bit anticlimactic.

Where Uncharted really drops the ball is that the final boss is a fucking QTE. I played through on the super-duper difficulty just to trophy whore the platinum. I remember thinking "oh, man, if I just make it to the final boss, then it's easy breezy from there."

Which isn't how final bosses should be. See also "Bioshock" ('cept for the QTE part).

Yeah, sorta... but in the case of uncharted where they're going for a realism+treasure hunting+folklore, you can't really have a boss battle against another human and not have that person come off as some sort of super being (at least if it's a gunfight), unless they made it a straight up fighting minigame type ordeal...

I guess after fighting all those zombie things, I guess I can see where the "Boss" at the end of Uncharted would be a letdown, but for me it was no big deal. The game went full circle at least. It's not like all games have to be designed like old school arcade games right? That was more of a "nice change of pace" for me than the rather abrupt shift from pop-n-shoot to run-n-gun anyway.

According to IGN:
Expanding on the blockbuster prequel videogame in the Riddick franchise, this expanded version brings back the proven gameplay and adds in a number of new features for next-gen consoles. Starring Vin Diesel as the titular anti-hero Riddick (who has heightened sensory abilities that allow him to see and hear beyond normal human ranges), you must break out of the galaxy's most deadly prison in this compelling 1st person action experience.

I have to agree. From the minute that you find the Nazi sub stranded on the waterfall and see the corpse that had scratch marks from some unknown source, there was the uneasiness that something supernatural was at play with this whole situation. At least it should give people a better idea of what to expect for Uncharted 2.

I found it to be a nice change of pace for the gameplay and with the added element of the pirates being involved, as well. Since you weren't moving in and out of cover much more at that point, though it was a bit easier to lose the trail of where you needed to go. The last whole final sequence not having a checkpoint between each encounter on the ship was kind of bullshit. I don't think a traditional boss, maybe a King/Queen descendant or a mutated version of the main nemesis would've been any better, so I'm not sure what the best way to handle that would've been.

I thought you hated Uncharted, Frosty?

The second paragraph of their newest preview:

The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena contains a remastered version of Butcher Bay (with updated graphics and sound and some tweaks to previous gameplay issues) as well as an all new adventure for Riddick. Oh, and multiplayer. When you first boot up Riddick, you're given the choice to start Butcher Bay or jump right into Assault on Dark Athena.

It started out as a fairly short addition, but apparently they've lengthened it significantly, though who knows how much longer it really is.

Basically, it's remastered BB with new shit and a new section to play, so that's pretty good to me.

Just beat mission 4 of Killzone 2. This game is super short if there is only 8 missions, which is a bummer because this single player campaign kicks ass.

about Dark Athena -- word is that the addition is about 2 - 3 hours long. some quick blurbs I saw on gaf said that other reviews are saying it's not up to Butcher Bay quality. Hearing that and seeing how much of a technical eye sore the Dark Athena demo is in all respects, I'm starting to think starbreeze was a one hit wonder with the original Butcher Bay (wasn't a fan of the Darkness.)

will totally get the game on clearance to play Butcher Bay again...

Does KZ2 have online co-op?

And this rehash of Riddick just doesn't seem to be worth $60. I loved Escape From Butcher Bay, but I beat that shit in a weekend. So now I'd have to play right through to Monday. And even then, $60 just doesn't tickle my taste buds. Not to say I'm hatin' on the Riddick game, because that was one of my favorite Xbox games, and one of my favorite games last generation.

Patched in means one of two things to me, A) A costly "expansion" pack or B) a free, but very long download.

Until recently I haven't minded the updates that come out with new games. But I mean really, with every console being online now, they're half assing it big time. In fact, I can't think of a Wii game that has a patch. But please correct me if I'm wrong.

Started a new game on GTA IV instead of continuing my last save that I haven't played in several months. Mainly so I could get some trophies, but also cause I couldn't remember what I was doing. I also played a skirmish battle in Valkyria Chronicles so I could get used to it again after not playing it since before Xmas. Gonna try and get these two games off my backlog before I have to move.

My girlfriend and a friend of hers are gonna take a trip up to Nashville this weekend to scope out some living arrangements for us. We're gonna try and move up by the end of the month if everything goes to plan. We've already given written notice to our current apartment complex that we plan to leave, so things are progressing. I just HATE moving. But I do love that I'll be closer to my family, so maybe its all worth it.

Anyway, I'll have the place to myself this weekend! Video game vacation get!

It's a good theory, but live opponents are definitely different than AI grunts, as you probably know. To me, games tend to get more frustrating and cheap when you turn up the difficulty past a certain point, usually medium.

I like a challenge, but I don't like cheapshots.

I dread moving too. I have so much shit; CRT HDTV, receiver, 5 speakers and a sub, desk, PC, 1 LCD monitor, 1 CRT monitor, drum kit, office chair, and a shitload of games, systems, and accessories just off the top of my head. I have more little things, but I can box them up. And my friend is talking about moving out to California, so I may go with him. X_X

I'd probably sell a ton of shit just so I wouldn't have to take it from IL to CA.

Indeed, and I'm moving again this summer. :(

At least I've got rid of a lot of clothes and nickknacks, and the last time I moved I gave away most of my furniture (other than bedroom stuff) since I was just renting a room.

This time I'm ditching most of the bedroom stuff--so it will mainly just be boxes of stuff and my 50" TV and receiver, speakers etc. to deal with. Also giving away my old desktop before I move since I'll have a work laptop to use at home. Console wise I only have a 360 now (had 3 consoles last time I moved), so it won't be so bad this time--the 10-11 hour drive aside.

Back on topic, was out of town most of the past two weeks so no gaming. Haven't gamed much at all the past couple months. Still need to polish off the Shivering Ilse's and have Fable 2 and Fallout 3 on the shelf waiting.

Just finished trying out several game demos.

First was MLB 2K9. Blech. Could not stand the batting controls. Or the pitching controls. Or all the other controls.

Next up was the new Watchmen game (via European PSN). So who watches plays the Watchmen? Massochists.

I also tried the Legends of Wrestlemania demo (also via European PSN), but for some reason it keeps telling me I can't because of my video settings. Never had that happen before. I'll try the US demo later today and see if I can get it to work.

The unlockable stuff are some stuff like shirts, maybe more.
And you unlock those by winning ranked matches online.

Played more Fallout 3 last night. I was hoping to get the Nuka Cola Challenge cheese, but I also kind of just want to finish the game already. I got a nice big backlog that I should dig into and I'm expecting KZ2 and MLB09 any day now.

The wife is planning to head out of town this weekend for a friend's funeral, so it looks like I'm going to have a similar gaming situation to Krymner.

If you finished the Nuka Cola Challenge, you get the schematics for the Nuka-Grenade, which is a fucking awesome weapon. :D

Xbox Live Demo Roundup!!!

Legends of Wrestlemania is pretty fun. Nothing too deep, but pretty amusing and has tons of QTE moments. The Rock beat my ass with a chair.

Wanted was pretty much ass from what I've played. I liked the instant kill melee attacks, but shooting was very rough. I didn't make it to the end of the demo.

Wheelman may just have the most accurate driving physics I've ever seen. ;) It's highly amusing ramming cops off the road and watching them flip and blow up.

I bought and beat the Prince of Persia Epilogue tonight. Well, after about...4 hours or so of playing and constantly quitting/reloading my saves (because you can't load from directly in the game) I finally managed a time of under 2 hours, and possibly under an hour, and no, I'm not kidding. People who bitch about the length of other $10 DLC, ladies and gentlemen, the King Offender is Prince of Persia for 360/PS3.

It's awfully linear, has some new powers (One of which they do not tell you how to use), new dialogue (I didn't do any dialogue parts though, I will for a second playthrough to get the final Trophy, though) and if the difficulty of the actual game was this, I wouldn't have enjoyed it, because this DLC is butt tough.

Let me clarify. It's hard to give all the haters of the game's difficulty a big middle finger. That's how hard it is. But the ending once again kept me intrigued about what was going to happen next. So, in that regard, it did its' job. But the game is sort of a mess, except the final platforming part, which I thought was fantastic.

Keep hitting him with the sniper rifle from the back of the room. Stand behind the panels on the railing so the dudes on the ground can shoot you. Then when he unleashes the rocket guys, go to the sides of the balcony and take them out and just shoot at him from there. When he comes down to the ground, I dont think there's much you can do but just try to survive and get as many shots on him as you can. Also, I think it helps to hit him when he's completely invisible.

With RE4, you only had to babysit every once in a while. In RE5, you have to do it constantly, she may have a gun but she's just as useless.

EDIT: You and your stealth edit.

Have you played it yet? Cause, from what I hear (:-\"), she'll pull off headshots when needed to, no problem, playing on normal difficulty. In fact, I hear ( :-\") that in some cases, she may end up healing you and saving your ass more than you do hers, at least early on...

I don't know about that. I've heard some people complain about how much ammo she wastes and how much babysitting he had to do.

I dunno what you guys were experiencing... in the RE5 demo I didn't have to babysit her at all. I never gave her ammo, never really had to go out of my way because of her or anything like that. Just occasionally I would have to someone off of her but that was it. Plus it was handy having her around because would heal sometimes when I was too busy to do that.

However, I do feel that adding co-op in a game like that lessens the horror aspect, because you never get that feeling being all alone and trapped.

KZ2 sure does take some getting used to.

I don't like how the default control scheme turns your hand into a claw.If you don't like pressing R3 to zoom, you can change to alternate 2 controls which make L1 the Zoom/AIM.

I don't know about that. I've heard some people complain about how much ammo she wastes and how much babysitting he had to do.She wastes ammo if you're a terrible shot because she cleans up what you don't finish. The only babying you have to do is press B every now and then to get an enemy off of her. She uses her own herbs when she needs to, stands next to you to heal you as well, and she'll get your back if you're swamped and have to reload. I don't see her as a crutch, but more like a partner.. till the end. 8-)

Oh, and you get to set her items up and shit before each area in every chapter and you can have her pick up items. If its something she needs, she'll pick it up on her own (ie: running low on pistol/whatever gun she has out ammo).

What the fuck? That's the worst part of multi...

I can't tell you how fucking aggravating it is to have to level up. So when I finally pop it in and try to play, I'm dealing with all sorts of motherfuckers who can build sentries or have invisibility cloaking while I'm waving "Hi, I'm still kinda new, can I play?!"

At least in CoD4 the perks were slight advantages, not something that tipped the scales. Oh, you have juggernaut or stopping power? Big deal. There was no "I'm under a fucking invisibility cloak" bs there... unless you unlock that at a level I never reached.

Now I'm not saying the classes are bad. Or that KZ2 MP is bad -- quite the opposite. It's just a bit aggravating how the playing field isn't exactly level.

They did make more violence and bone breaking in a few of the action scenes, but otherwise yeah it was pretty spot on.

I didn't have a problem with the character development either, but maybe its because I already knew how they were going to end up.

True. I did find that the violence seemed a lot more brutal in the film though. I also noticed they added quite a bit of language (read: F-bombs) to the dialogue, especially for the comedian into the film.

I can see how that was annoying... I just liked alot of elements and how nicely satisfying the characters felt.

also, you can still snipe with the basic assult but it's not as strong as the sniper rifle or as zoomy... also you can upgrade your sniper scope, but I don't know what it does exactly ... i think it has a new HUD or something that tracks players.

I really enjoyed the watchmen movie. I only just read the book last summer but I think it's the best i could have expected from a movie about it.

The Dylan montage with the recreated photos was phe-fucking-nominal. Even though i'd only read the book once it was awesome to see that.

I think the movie had a better ending than the book, too. I never understood the faked alien invasion

I was bracing myself for a rediculously gory and upsetting scene though. Of all the gory and violent scenes in the film the scene of the comedian being the JFK assassin was the most stomach-turning.

Too much sex, though. And not enough blue dick.

Never enough blue weiners.
