I see a lot more terrible Akuma players recently. I think they believe his raging demon is a better ultra to spam than ken's, since it has range.

Sagat is hit or miss. Sometimes you get good players, sometimes you get tiger shot spammers who probably used to play ryu and then were like "AW SHEET DIS HERE DUDE WIT DA EYE PATCH SHOTS TWO OF DEM FIR BALLS"

I must just be unlucky now. Anytime I see someone pick a shoto now I just go "Fuuuuuck" because all they'll do is stand in the corner, spam projectiles and think they can win. It's simply not fun. I enjoy getting my ass beaten by a good bison but hate winning against a terrible ken/akuma/ryu/sagat.

Jer = Whoknows on the whole annoying troll level, but at least Jer isn't bothering with the same ole tired gimmick (that was stale from the get go).

Jer needs to realize that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and that Jer himself is far from always right, even from a industry POV.

On a whole other note; it's nearly two years since I first started playing it, but I finally got the last achievement in Castlevania SOTN. Nothing like randomly revisiting a game you started years ago, only to finish it.

Granted, if they simply cut out the night segments, trimmed the game a bit and released it over the XBLA for 1600 or less points I would be singing a completely different tune.

Played a bit more GTAIV today before getting frustrated at replaying one mission several times. As has been said here before, the damn game needs some kinda checkpoint system. Its a lot of the reason why I put the game down the first time.

Other than that, I've been doing some packing. The benefit of working at a grocery store is that you have access to all the free boxes you could ever want. I've got a huge pile of empty boxes in my living room, and soon they will be filled with my various garbage. Have I mentioned before how much I hate moving? I absolutely DREAD pulling my entertainment center apart.

Yes. SNK has never made great fighting games, IMO... while some of the Samurai Showdown games were fun, that's about it. Maybe Fatal Fury 2 if you're being lenient.

And I happen to like Tekken. It's better than the abortion people have labeled as Street Fighter 4.

Mostly, I hate the way SFIV feels. Doesn't feel like SF2 or SF3... it's got to be the 3d models on the 2d plane.

Tekken? I like the combos, the juggles, the parries, the reversals, the side steps. It's 3D models that play in 3D (sort of)... though not true 3D (which kills SC for me... amongst other things.)

Apparently not. I saw my Prince of Persia achievements and I got 720/1000. I DID get the under 12 hours achievement as well as the Elika saving me less than 100 times (NO IDEA how I got that one).

That's the name of the attack/technique that regular (hooded) Jin changed to starting in Tekken 4 when he dropped the "Mishima/Kazama" style of fighting that is now exclusive to Devil Jin. Instead of a catch/reversal, it's a block that pushes the opponent to the side a bit and give you a frame or two advantage as they recover.

Couldn't find a great example, but this shows Bryan Fury doing a low parry.

Apparently a lot of characters have them in 5, but I think the concept was introduced with Jin (maybe others) in Tekken 4. I know Jin can do it in 5, and so can Asuka, I believe. But it seems Bryan and maybe others can as well -- mark mang would know better than I, most likely.

I was under the impression that parries were like reversals in that all characters didn't have them or that they were attack specific, like King's mid-kick catch/reversal (whereas Paul, Asuka, and Devil Jin can catch any Mid/High I think.).

Tekken 4 was pretty bad. I don't count that one. Tekken 5, however, resolved most of the problems with 4 and added a ton more characters into the newer fighting engine... DR was nice too, I wanted to take the time to learn Dragunov or the Blade ripoff, but didn't sit down and do it -- I might with Tekken 6 now that I have an arcade stick. :)

Tekken 4 was great just because Jin was straight up god in it. Tekken 5 DR is the pinnacle of the series to me, but maybe T6 BR will bump it off.

I played Tekken 4 less than 5 times in my life.
I remember the first time I saw it. I walked up to the machine, dropped $.50 in, then confidently selected Jin Kazama.
I saw the new hooded look and thought "this is kind of bad ass."
Then the round started. And I thought my fucking joystick was broken or some shit. Not a single move I knew in the land of Tekken 3 or TTT was available. I played again as Paul, since he's my backup... that was okay, but holy shit, the shell shock of them fucking recreating Jin entirely... I never got over it.

When I tried Tekken 5 later on (before it was released on PS2), I noted Devil Jin and immediately selected him. I was mostly pleased to see the return of the mishima/kazama style I'd spent learning during Tekken 2 (with Kazuya), and 3 and TTT with Jin. The blend of Jun Kazama and Kazuya Mishima had returned and I was decidely happy. I plunked down reward certifcates for Tekken 5 without hesitation.

I still need to learn the new style Jin... maybe in Tekken 6 for the online play.

as long as the players aren't as dumb. I played a level 56 guy the other day who only used horizontal and vertical slashes and didn't block. I saw a lot of that shit at launch and was hoping they'd have cleared out by now :lol:

Offline I can impact every time, online it was always (and I mean always) delayed. Online had terrible lag for me, SFIV's is perfect though so it's not me. :bouncy:

Well, if I recall correctly, the laser has to read each media type at a different frequency and constantly having to change can put a lot of stress on the laser. I only play Blu-Ray based media in my PS3.

Do a backup of the drive too.
When you restore back to your system (if you even have to) those KZ2 and SFIV saves should be there.

hmmm, I think I'll install XP on my mac book with boot camp and get a display-out to watch vids on my TV. I can't work up the motivation to play PC games any more!

and I'm finally finishing GTA4 today. First GTA game I've beaten. I went into it just playing it because I wanted to beat at least one GTA game in my life, but now I genuinely appreciate the game. It's repetitive, but it's solid. And the cutscenes are enough incentive to keep me doing missions, since the writing is generally good and when it isn't good, it's still funny (not funny like Resident Evil, but it actually makes me laugh at the humor.) I'm definitely getting Lost and the Damned at some point.

Cool. The only GTA I've ever beaten was GTA2 waaaay back in the late 90's on PC. Top-down gangstas FTW!! I miss those old Kill Frenzy missions. I'm working my way thru GTAIV right now after putting it down for several months. I agree that it is repetitive, but solid. The story is interesting enough too. Hopefully I'll be able to beat it this time before I get too frustrated about the lack of a decent checkpoint system. :cry:

What's the difference? I've had both at different points and they seemed exactly the same to me. And don't say Live, since once you get into the online part they look exactly the same.

Unfortunately, and in all honesty for me... the DS3 controls kill any competitiveness I could have. (I'm an elite 12 on the 360.) The other thing is that on the PS3 it looks like a PS2 game. I have an HD monitor, my 360 is on D-sub and my PS3 on HDMI. The PS3 version looks nothing like the 360 version and the AI partners are even stupider too.

I'm not saying either way 360 or PS3 (figured someone might call me a fanboy going either way)... like I said, overall gaming lately sucks period. This "next gen" gaming is looking pretty pathetic all around. I actually haven't found more games on the 360 worth my time but yes there's more crappy ones on the 360 than PS3 probably.

It's good but I think people are looking in the wrong places. THe real gems of this gen have been digitaly distributed games and indie games. serously next-gen has made it easier for lower end devs to make superb stuff.

Macbook something - videos, as in TV shows, occasional movies. Stuff I have on my HDD for whenever I want to watch it. The urge to watch a simpsons episode might hit and I wouldn't want to wait on netflix for it. And since I've played most of what I want to play on the PC, I figure a dual boot would be nice, say, for those occasional Portal urges.

I had the same conversation with my dad a few months back and he said the same thing... not saying I'm right but I replied:

1. They go on sale, and lately sales have been alot more common than they have been.

2. If you know you'll like a game enough it dosn't matter... plus it's cheaper than lunch so resell would probably sell for the price of a candy bar.

1. It's not a sale to me... Take for instance. Pain, Super star dust, Blast factor. (I'm not saying they're bad games I'm just saying it's not worth it I haven't played it more than I can count on one hand.

2. A few problems there... I played the FEAR 2 demo. loved it and pre ordered which I never do and won't ever do again. When I got the game it sucked. Same for Killzone 2, although I didn't like the demo and I was just hoping.

3. I don't lose discs. I don't damage discs either. Would be a bad idea if you know you're going to sell them down the road too. lol

Over 1080p... in other words there's still some scaling going on. The PS3 has piss poor AA too, so that's why you're probably seeing more jagged edges.

If you can, set it to 1:1 pixel, that'd definitely help.

Because they're recording it at the game's native resolution, it's at the exact resolution the PS3 is outputting.

It's a setting on your monitor, I can't tell you how to do it on yours since it's your monitor, but check the OSD.

That's probably the resolution the PS3's outputting then your monitor's scaling it up to its native resolution. My TV does that too, but it's a 1366x768 native res TV. Unfortunately if yours doesn't have a 1:1 pixel mapping mode then any game you play will always have jagged edges, but the 360 will have less every time.

I've done a lot of searching about why I can tell so much difference between 1080p vs 720p and I just decided to screw it and threw up my arms.

No, no, native 1080p looks good on any TV. Anything that has a native resolution of 720p or 1080p looks good. However, if you have a TV (or monitor) that doesn't display one of those resolution natively, your TV/monitor will be scaling the picture and as a result... you'll see jagged edges.

EDIT: On my TV, the moment you switch to 1:1 pixel mapping, you can immediately tell a difference. Most, if not all, of the jagged edges disappear.

For my TV, instead of scaling it to my TV's resolution, with 1:1 pixel mapping it's displaying the image in the exact resolution it's being sent.

EDIT: Maybe explaining it with resolutions will help more, I'll use my TV as an example. I have my PS3 to output to 720p which has a resolution of 1280x720. My TV's native resolution is 1366x768. So when it's displaying the picture it'll take the 1280x720 image and stretch it to 1366x768 and that's what's creating the jagged edges. What 1:1 pixel mapping does is displays the picture with borders around all sides so it displays it as an actual 720p image, taking up the exact number of pixels it's supposed to.

Oh yea, the PS3 doesn't scale the way the 360 does... yea, it's actually taking a 720p image and stretching it to a resolution above 1080p... that would definitely make it look god awful. The 360's actually outputting it at 1080p because it's scaling it, but your monitor's still doing some scaling afterwards too, so it'll still have jagged edges but nowhere near as bad.

You have options, plus you get a box, physical media, and a 2-page booklet that EA does nowadays for their games.

Now, if it was $35 as a DD, it would definitely be a better buy. What I'm saying is DD prices should always be less than retail. So if developers want DD to be the future, they damn well better make their games cost less when they get there. Otherwise, the medium will die.

They price it the same so EB/GS doesn't bitch. it's true. EB/GS hasn't figured out what they fuck they will do, so in the meantime, they're leaning on publishers. Valve pretty much doesn't have to listen, so they have sales all the time. Console publishers do have to listen since EB/GS has all their floor space devoted to them.

I personally think now would be the best time to try and lower prices on their DD games (I still think Head Coach 09 is $50...) because they have a bit more to worry about than how Sony prices their downloadable games at the moment.
