There aren't a lot of options to suggest other than Wal-Mart. Now, if you nationalize an entire industry (say the health care industry, or, as we have it now, the USPS), you can point to the government as an agent that wields monopsony (in this example, it goes like this: USPS rates go up: consumers say "oh, shit, again!?!?!" and continue to use the USPS because they have no choice). But as for private industry, it's WM and little else.

As in the case of PC game boxes, their desire to better utilize shelf space does have small positive environmental effects. And fewer boxes to have "creases" in them that keep game collectors up at night in a cold sweat. But WM uses it to help themselves first, and if it benefits the consumer, the environment, or anyone else, it's purely circumstantial.

Keep this in mind, of course, when you go to buy an electronic item at WM that has a unique model # that no other store sells, even if the other stores have an item that looks damned close to it, with a similarly damned close model #. That's you sign that the WM item has cheaper parts, outsourced labor, and is generally something that will die on you.

One of my friends brought over God Hand, and it really was incredibly fun. My only problem with it was that it was so fucking difficult. That, and health was incredibly sparse at the end-game.

The standing animation was awesome though. I must've danced like that for weeks. :lol:

Honestly, to me, achievements do add replayability to a game. They usually motivate to play more of a game than I normally would, and it adds to my arbitrary Xbox/PS3/whatever score. The concept is a neat innovation, for sure.

That being said, I'm curious to see how the achievement/trophy effect ripples down through the next few generations of consoles. I predict some negative repercussions that are already happening (i.e., the cheapening of the gaming experience) to grow worse, but who knows?

Played the Wanted: Weapons of Fate demo. Feels a hell of a lot like the last few 007 games on PS2 (Everything or Nothing/From Russia With Love), not in a good way. You can take a shitload of damage, so the cover system is fairly useless, although this may be due to the demo only letting you use the "pussy" difficulty level.

Mark Millar dialogue also doesn't translate well to being spoken, in a 10 minute tutorial, Wesley says fuck at least 50 times, and includes a lovely metaphor about dingleberries.

yeah, none of what they're doing makes or breaks the game, but it's chiseling the game down. Last gen all this RE5 and SFIV stuff would've been unlockable. It's just kinda frustrating to see what DLC can actually be when companies run with it. Sometimes it's good, but costumes and modes feels more like getting the rest of the game sold to you at a very high price (almost $20 for all the SFIV costumes...and that doesn't cover every character yet.) I didn't want to see Capcom of all companies following Namco's suit.

Floods: I'm not buyin' RE5 for a while yet, but explain to me, in English, why one version is better or worse.

This is all graphical so controller preference and shit like that can gtfo.

RE5 on 360 has Twice the Anti-Aliasing which reduces the jaggies.
It also has more shadow density and smoke density which increases the shadows, and how thick the smoke looks.

The 360 version also is no V-Sync locked so while running the game at 1080p it tends to tear like a bastard. If you set the xbox to run at 720p you will have no problem with the tearing.

The 360 version also seems to run about 5-6 FPS faster then the PS3 version. Which is quite a bit as it seems that the PS3 version dips to low 20's in hectic action. The 360 seems to run at a rock solid 30fps.

I went with Xbox for my third parties last gen, based on what I called the "Splinter Cell" principle - the game was amazing on Xbox, and lacked content (not just visuals or audio, by by-gawd-damn-gameplay!) on the GC/PS2. So that was a no-brainer. And, of course, XBL.

These days, even my compulsions are tested. Smoke particles? Layers of anti-aliasing? The differences are becoming far too miniscule for me to be concerned with anymore. Bully for you if they do matter to you, though.

EDIT: Oh, yeah. I'm still waiting for a price drop. Full disclosure, I'm sure, to at least one or two audible gasps by GGT readers: I've owned RE4: Wii for damn near as long as its been out, and I've never played it. Same with the GC/PS2 versions. So I have a while to go before I hit up 5.

Odd... PS3 version looks like they stopped the boat while the 360 seems to be in motion -- I can't say I'd notice during gameplay, I'd probably be trying to rush through the boating to get back to land. But that's pretty shitty if it's the case. Does CAPCOM suck that hard? Wasn't someone saying the graphics and framerates stuttered in SF4 for the PS3?

Played a bit of GTAIV in-between bouts of packing. Finally found my old SNES RPGs and got to looking thru those for a bit. Most of the difference seems readily apparent in the water. I don't think either of the demo levels have water filled areas...

PS3 is blurrier by nature, due to the 2QAA, isn't it? :-s

Maybe because of the blurring, edges are softer, so you're not seeing the crisp edges? :-s I dunno man... but PS3 is generally darker in textures too from what I've noticed.

I just watched that last night! I thought it was ok. Better than the Live Action? In terms of general entertainment value, I don't think so, but that's only because I enjoy watching Mila Jovovich..

The first RE live action was good, I thought. It did rip off a bunch of better horror/sci fi films, though. If anything, Degeneration reinforced what a badass Leon S. Kennedy is. A sexually repressed/impotent badass, but a badass nonetheless.

Just started Valkyrie Chronicles from gameflewzie last night. So far I really now wish more RPGs were this kind with story telling, leveling, and pacing... I mean the leveling system and chapter stuff just makes sense and is superb for people who don't have time but love RPGs.

going through that and slowly picking up the last few badges I need in KZ2.

The nice part about the Medium win is that is was best of 3 for each match. For the full experience kind of thing.

Fable 2 would be so much better if it played like DMC or something. I'mma finish it later. All in all, it's a good rental, but I probably won't buy it until it's really cheap, if at all.
