I'd love Twin Snakes if it wasn't for the Matrix cutscenes.

I blame Kojima.

The team that did TS kept the cutscenes very true to the source material. They showed them to Kojima for approval and he didn't like them because they were too similar, he said to "Michael Bay" them up and then we got the TS we all know and love hate.

Plus, those MGS2 moves made certain sections in MGS1 way too easy.

They were cool. 8-)

I played MGS Twin Snakes for story, not gameplay, could be hard as balls for all I care. The gameplay still sucked ass.

The reason was explained once on PS3 Fanboy when there was an interview with Yoshida:

lol, I never went that far to pretend I read things. I just didn't read it if I didn't like it.... that could explain why I barely passed every English class I ever took.... that and my horrible grammar.I did terrible in English classes too, especially ones I had to read books. I did good in most writing classes (all that killed me was tests), and I also did well in speech classes. What got me passed English in high school was my crazy high grade on Latin/Greek work tests, where I got a 100% on every single quiz and test. I nearly had a heartattack when I missed ONE question on the Quiz number 14 (out of 15) all because I put the Greek or Latin meaning of a word (basically, there was a word that meant different things in Latin and Greek, I got it mixed up and got counted off).

Oh and I guess to keep things relevant: I am playing though RE5 with a friend and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I had major doubts after playing that demo, but the game is fine now.

Ryûhei Kitamura created many of the game's cut scenes to look almost identical to the ones in Metal Gear Solid (1998) (VG). Hideo Kojima had him redo them, to make sure that they would all be in Kitamura's own style (thus keeping up the concept that this game would be a complete "re-imagination" of MGS).

I never owned myself a home console till I was in 8th grade (I don't count my Commodore 64 since I barely knew how to use it growing up) and started with my first being an original Gameboy. The thing exploded in my hands twice, no lie :lol:

I mainly got my gaming time with a friend who lived a bike ride away who owned every new system when they released. I played alot of NES and Genesis at his house. I also fell in love with fighting games since he'd always have the latest Street Fighter II version and the newest Mortal Kombat.

Man that takes me back to good times.

First handheld was the OG Gameboy, back in '89. I got to play one not long ago, and it's fucking huge, and the screen sucks. Technology has come a long way. I played my cousin's Game Gear AKA battery eater, but never got one. I later bought a Neo Geo Pocket Color, which was a pretty neat system. I only had 2 games for it, and I just recently sold it on CAG. SNK pulled the plug the second I bought it. :cry:

Then I bought a Game Boy Advance because it came with a free copy of Castlevania Circle of the Moon. Screen was so dark that you couldn't see shit. I later found out, thanks to my Game Boy Player, that Dracula shoots dark purple clouds of poison smoke at you. I would just die fighting him and not know why. :lol: Never bothered with an SP, and bought a DS Phat just to play Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow and Phoenix Wright. I hoped on a DS Lite at launch on impulse, just because I was at Walmart at midnight and they were putting them out. Sold my Phat to GS the next day and got $75. Not interested in the DSi, and I was thinking of selling my Lite because I don't play it, though I should just keep it.

I still play my copy of Tetris on my Game Boy Player.

I've got some work to do today, finally. Time to get paid. 8-)

I played the NES at my grandparents house though since my uncle was like 20 at the time and going to the university in the area.

On a side note: The second season of tower of druaga ended, I'm sad because it was so damn funny/good. Ah well!

The first console I played was a 2600 my Aunt and Uncle had, used to play Combat and Adventure a lot.

First console I owned myself was the original Gameboy, I still get the urge to play GB stuff now, I fecking loved that Gameboy. Got a Sega Megadrive not long after that.

If a publisher outsources their music or has some company doing it for them (and/or another company doing FMV, story writing, etc.), they have to ask permission by them to use it. The games also have to be re-negotiated to allow for a game to be a digital download (although a game is disc, has to be re-licensed to allow as a download, no matter what), re-negotiated to allow for it to be region free (previous games were region locked), and so on. The entire reason PS1/PS2 games aren't region free (disc based games) is because the old contract already has the games as being region locked, and unfortunately Sony cannot break that (unless they ask every publisher/developer permission first. Some publishers/developers may not care, but some definitely do). One reason we don't even see many VC games either is because of licensing (like Earhbound makes so many references making licensing complicated, unless they remove everything).

When developers first created games on the PSone, not many companies accounted for their games being ported in the digital space, 10 to 13 years later. The reason why you don’t see too many games on the PSone classics right now is because there are so many legal and licensing challenges for the developer. It’s possible that the developer no longer owns the IP, or the rights to the music, voice overs, images, etc.

It's kind of like with SingStar music with SCEE cannot just take a PS2 SingStar disc and put all the music right in the SingStore. The music was only licensed for disc previously, and they have to re-negotiate the music to be used as a digital download, allow for the rights to upload the music online (for video and music), along with agreeing on the price structure. One music company (Universal Music Group) has not come to an agreement with SCEE which has led to their PS2/PS3 disc music never appearing in the store, or any download. If UMG owns the rights to a particular song in a region (like they have they distribution rights to Queen in Canada, not 100% sure about the U.S.), the song doesn't go up in the store in that particular reason. There was an oversight before where a UMG owned song in a particular region appeared, but was taken down (probably because UMG was angry).

Your description of the process of licensing music is written from the vantage point of someone with a diminished understanding of our legal system, but continues to want to have an opinion about it.

It is both more and less complex than you describe. More to the point, it's not about the developers and ownership. It's about publishers.

Because any argument to defend it implies, in order to remain plausible, that it applies to every single PSOne title ever. Otherwise, the argument fails.

First console I ever played was my uncle's Colecovision, which is in a garage somewhere. I have very vivid memories of playing Adventure, the racing game, and the Tank shooting game.

My first console was an NES, I don't remember buying many games at all for it, but I borrowed a lot, and rented all the time from the local Tom Thumb grocery store.
I remember renting Dragon Quest because the art looked cool, but took it back the next day. It was so BORING! :)
I did own Final Fantasy, I never beat it, but watched my cousin finish the game.
I had Robocop, TMNT, some Muppets game, Zelda II, Batman (the good one), Dodgeball :drool:, Megaman III, and one of my personal faves, Quantam Fighter.
Man, where are these games now...... they have to be in my dad's garage somewhere too.

Got an SNES! I went crazy.
There's an old Christmas video of me saying right after unwrapping it. "Now I'm playing with Super Power!! Not just regular power with my old NES!"
Super Mario World blew my young self away.

Never had a Gameboy, but always wanted one. How much were they?
I eventually did get a Gameboy Pocket, and later a Gameboy Color, I even had the camera and printer....... oh man.

Got a PSX, and then PS2 and then games sucked. The end.

First console I had growing up was Atari 5200. It sucked as the button would break on the controller after few weeks and then we could only play a couple games like Pacman and Frogger that didn't use the button.

So I didn't really get into gaming until we got an NES a year or 2 after it launched. From then on I've owned: Gameboy, SNES, N64, PS1, GBA, Dreamcast, PS2, GC, Xbox, DS, Wii, Xbox 360.

I had an NES at our condo at the beach, and a few years later I got a SNES to keep at home. My dad took my brother to colorado one year and they picked up a N64 w/ OoT for me cause they felt bad I had to stay home for 2 weeks with my grandma. :(

I think I traded everything I had for SNES to grab a Playstation and ended up regretting it. I bought a PS2 in 2001(2002?) with money I had saved up and some fuckin' asshole broke into my house and stole it. I got my Xbox off of a girl that needed money for drugs and my first Gamecube was a hand me down.

Game Boy originally retailed for $89.99

My brother got one fairly early after launch, when there were only 5 games available, all made by nintendo :-(

There weren't ANY new games for the GB until Motorcross Maniacs and Castlevania Adventure hit a day or 2 before X-Mas '89.

I remember my brother being SOOO excited about seeing new games that he shouted 'YES!' so loudly I could hear him in the shoe department on the Kohl's store we were in at the time

I thought maybe Revenge of the Gator or Solar Striker were launch titles, I guess not.

We might have got different launch titles in the UK.

The first GB game I ever saw was Double Dragon on a GB my mate had bought in Hong Kong, long before they were out officially in the UK.

I still remember that little kiosk, and the little red reset button.

They eveh have Zelda playing on those CD-i systems.

Yeah it's definitely got a certain something, it is a very basic shmup by todays standards though.

I don't know what it was about GB games, but back in the day they seemed awesome, maybe it was having portable games for the first time.

It really is amazing how shit most of those GB/GBC games actually were.
They were barely a step up from the static background, lcd keychain games.

I don't think I ever saw a Jaguar out in the wild, maybe just a box somewhere.
Never saw a TG-16, or a NEOGEO when it was new.
I did once see a 3DO setup in some specialty arcade/game place. You had to pay to play it. Never did.

Heh, that reminds me of an Uncle I had who bought a TG-16 for when kids visited him. He was married, but didn't have kids at the time. I don't think he put more than an hour into playing the system.

He was the only person I know who ever bought a TG-16

I used to love going to his house to play Bonk 1, Legendary Axe 2. I hated all those lame sports games that had the RPG potions though.

I picked a different color one and went to the check out.

I didn't realize I'd left my DS at the Shopko until I got home.

I got the Turkey Club Torpedo(no mayo) the other day, and yes the vinaigrette was the best part of the sub.

There was barely any turkey, cheese or bacon on the damn thing.

It was more like a salad in a roll than a sub

That game is so damn good.
Unbelievable fun in 2 player mode, even single player.

VS and co-op play online would be amazing.
They released the obscure Death Tank, and no one cared.
Return Fire is so much better.

That skull, I'll never forget that laugh.

If someone here hasn't play it, it was on 3DO, PSX, Saturn. I still have my PSX copy.
I think they made a Return Fire II back then, but I believe it was fully 3D, and shit.

True, seems like the people who were waiting for a price drop have moved on. Those who really wanted one already picked one up for retail or on sale. I know that happened to all my friends, they've either moved on to a 360 or said "Fuck it" and bought it. I'd mention the Wii but... to be honest, most of my friends just make fun of it because of the 'waggle' controls.

EDIT: Probably should mention that I know that my friends are definitely not the Wii's target audience. :lol:

They who? Compared to the 100 million plus the PS2 (alone) sold, the number of consoles sold this generation is pithy by comparison. So your argument is complete shit, unless you assume that an industry growing in sales dollars by the quarter is going to sell, on the whole, 1/3 to 1/2 the number of consoles of the last generation.

You surely can't be that obtuse. At least, I tell myself that.

With consoles at $250-$500, none of them have hit a mass market pricepoint yet. And you can rely on those predictions about sales and saturation to your heart's content, except that you're wrong this generation. So the past is the past except when it isn't.

EDIT: Don't think I'm saying that the PS3 will move out of third place. It has a fighting chance globally to succeed the 360, but certainly not in the US. What I'm saying is that your argument seems to be that console sales have leveled off and the trends won't change. Which is pretty fuckin' stupid, you have to admit.
