It's already happening .. tower defense games. And I think the fighting/beatemup "fad" happened in the arcade/sega days.

Depends on what you mean by "fad." What people play? What gets released in abundance? What is released in abundance that has a market for it, and what is released that doesn't?

Until we see sales/profits decline, I think we'll see more cookie-cutter games. Companies will be afraid to take on some kind of big-budget art-darling Tim Schafer project. Digital distribution helps them to a degree (we'd never see the everyday shooters, braids, and bittripbeats of this gen without it), but the question being asked is too vague.

exactly. Digital distribution already shows that it can re-start fads. Geometry Wars is to blame for the oversaturation of SHMUPs on XBLM/PSN and others.

Overstaturation? Hmm. I don't know about that. What I like about the 360, and to a lesser degree, PS3, is that they've made "scores" count again. I still remember how shocked I was when I read that people were, en masse, trying to outdo each other's GW scores. THAT's some retro shit right there. Score fighting, somehow, stayed limited to that game pretty much only, though, with the exception of achievement/trophy whores. Now they compete for levels, points, and recognition. It's semi-retro, since we're comparing silly numbers and tokens.

But that's not a genre, now, is it? ;)

I really need to get back into Ikaruga. Recently started playing Geo War 2 again. Started improving some of my old scores. One thing I've found is that after not playing the game for a while , I have a new found appreciation for King and Pacifism. They are now my 2 favorite modes in the game.

As someone who follows the PSN releases more than XBLA, I suppose my view is slanted by the abundance of Tower Defense Games (hereafter TDG). To be fair, after watching the free month of Qore, I am still mad excited about Fat Princess.

I did enjoy Astro Tripper, though I would have killed a motherfucker if I paid $10 for that short of a game. $5 was tolerable.

Warhead runs better than Crysis. If you are running Vista x64, you can run both Crysis and Warhead in 64 bit mode and get a few FPS there.

As a game, I like Warhead more. It's only like 5 hours long at most, but it's just all of the good things about Crysis with almost none of the bad. I'd wait for the pack, personally.

It's actually 2D drawings I made in a pixel program (no, not MS Paint :lol: ) but the program I edited and did the effects in (After Effects) helps me convert them into 3D.

Took me forever, and the scary thing is I have 8 more minutes of film with the same effects I have to do in the next 2 weeks... I say goodbye to sleep soon >_<

Yeah I finished it up Tonight after grinding up a level or two. The first 13 (?) forms went by really quick, but the last one dragged on. I never got the uber personas like lucifer or messiah so I did it the old fashioned way. full heals every round for everyone in the party helped too.

Overall I really enjoyed It, as my first SMT and Persona game. Very different. Definitely worth the $25 I spent on it. Easily one of the best values I've gotten out games. (The only other two that immediately come to mind are Diablo 2 and Starcraft).

Mirror's Edge starts out great, but I'm at chapter 7 and am ready for it to be over. I feel like I've done all the good platforming they have to offer twice now. The cutscenes and story are just plain generic pseudo-rebellion. I did play multi. I didn't like how I have to unlock the other classes. I can understand locking away weapons or skills, but entire classes?

I can see Rei's point. While I find myself enjoying KZ2s multipalyer(far more then single player). I do wish you had some more options when you first start playing online. I felt that at least the Medic and Engineer should have been available from the start.

I liked Halo 3's campaign over CoD4's campaign. I played both on their hard modes (but not Legendary or Veteran, since those modes in both games are beyond ridiculous.) CoD4 is so random. You can be dead in two seconds or get completely lucky and dominate. I had to exploit the end of One Shot, One Kill to beat it, since it's instant death once the helis arrive. When I finished the game, I didn't necessarily feel any better at it, just that I endured a fuck load of deaths and managed to mix a little bit of skill and a lot of luck.

Halo worked out better, thanks to the larger environments that you can take advantage of and longer shield life.

Oh it's terrible...to me and that's really the only person's opinion that counts as far as I'm concerned lol. The first Halo was a good game, but the second and third I hated. I could barely bring myself to finish those two games (I don't even think I finished Halo 3).

So after Bioshock, Resistance, and KZ2 I'm thinking I might be into FPS's after all. I always thought FPS's weren't really for me. So I got to thinking about what are the best FPS's out there that I had to try, and was having a tough time. I mean, just about everyone loves COD4, but I think I prefer the less realistic Halo/Resistance-esque shooters.

Depending on who you ask Halo is either great or terrible, FEAR seems more horror-oriented and skippable, TF2 is cool but I don't really want an online-only game, and I kind of hated Half-Life 1. So where's the pinnacle of the genre?

Halo 2 was my favorite online multi, it had everything you wanted plus the messaging, party, clan, and leveling up. All those features just seemed to work together so well. It was the first time I also experienced sending/receiving voice messages and that was so kick ass.

I enjoyed parts of KZ2 SP, especially towards the end, but most of the dialogue turned me off :/
The multi is pretty awesome though, even if the aiming ticks me off once in a while. Everything balances out so well it's amazing.

I am convinced that it is feasible to beast in KZ2 with pure gun control, because I've witnessed it. People are able to go 38-10, 48-7, and they are usually face-to-face with the enemy and just wipe em' out quick.

I've seen Schindler's List and Wizard of Oz from those, and I own Godfather, Casablanca and Lawrence Of Arabia.

single player is still there, but it basically got the shaft and was replaced by a mode that seems entirely counter intuitive to the way the game plays...

PO+ seemed like more of an upgrade to the MGO portion of the game with original MGO maps and more special characters.

MPO's fun enough as a sort of pick-up and play MGS experience. I love the Wifi fishing game for new recruits, though I never really got anyone amazing out of it.

Usually yes, but they must have got the rights for a few films so now they're releasing them with the Riff tracks. I bought Little Shop of Horrors, Reefer Madness and Night of the Living Dead.

They were $10 a pop and I haven't seen any of the movies. They're like the old MST3K releases where the un-riffed version is on the disc as well.

I'm not really sure what I could compare it to. Maybe Fighting Force in the sense that the game doesn't really control as well as it should.

I'll just be more specific in that the controls aren't all that responsive to the action. It gets picky sometimes when not being in front of a thug and not so picky other times, usually when shooting a gun for the latter and normal fighting for the former. Shooting a gun can be a bit frustrating when I push the L button to pull the gun out and nothing happens. Shooting a shotgun doesn't seem to have much punch when it takes three or four shots to even take out the big thugs, although these are supposed to be non-lethal guns anyway.

I'm really enjoying Stalker. I just can't figure out how to get it to run decently with any lighting on. I can play the game on maximum settings but as soon as I go above simple lighting, the framerate goes in the shitter. Even on max it's perfect with simple lighting.

It doesn't really work like that...it depends on how well optimized a game is. and Stalker is not well optimized at all, so you'll get weird performance issues. Just make sure you have those patches installed and your drivers updated.

The two best Musou games on the 360 are Samurai Warriors 2 and Warriors Orochi 2. I'd personally go with SW2 as it still stands as my favorite in the series. Great music, well done cutscenes, nice variety in weapons, and a good leveling system. WO2 has all that minus the music and cutscenes. So it's a good game, it's just slightly less awesome than SW2.

Shhh, don't comment on games you don't like. See, you recommended DW6, and honestly that's a bad choice. It plays nothing like any other game in the series, and is honestly a step back in a lot of ways. Cutting down the number of story modes and characters, and even making other characters just palette swaps.

If you want to go with a game in the DW series, then you'd have to go back to DW5 for a really good one (yes DW3 fans, I said it!).

Honestly, I don't think a newbie or non-fan will notice or appreciate the differences. This is IMO, of course, but I think these games all play pretty much the same.

Again, fans of the series will easily recognize what they like and don't like about the games, but (IMO) everyone else will probably not worry about those things all that much. Really, these games aren't meant for everyone, but I'm glad you enjoy them.

Yeah, when WO2 first came out it had horrible slowdown problems. Koei released a patch to fix it shortly after.
