iPhone is the best phone ever. What up.

RelentlessRolento

Why is it stupid that you see so many? It's an amazing piece of technology... I'm even thinking about re-upping my contract to upgrade to a 3G model and then selling my original to recoup my costs.

 you read me wrong. Stupid not in terms of the phone but the number of them that I see.

do I make sense now?

pete5883
04-10-2009, 08:59 AM
No, because I use my iPhone as a phone and not an entertainment device. ;) Except for web-browsing. But that's not necessarily entertainment... Chika has played more games on my iPhone than I have, I think. Hell, she's better at Topple than I am. :)
Why'd you get an iPhone if you're going to ignore half the functionality that makes people like it so much?

Why'd you get an iPhone if you're going to ignore half the functionality that makes people like it so much?

I got an iPhone because I wanted a smartphone that would allow me to browse the web and check my email anywhere. And I didn't want any of the phones like Blackberrys or Palms. So, it does that and adds some other nifty features, so I'm entirely satisfied.

Does it not bug you doing the phone stuff without any kind of keyboard? Typing shit on there is a nightmare. I text faster on my Razr than I can type with the iPhone keyboard.

Yeah, I hate trying to type on my friends' iPhones as well. Much prefer the physical QWERTY keyboard on my Voyager.

But I also have no use for a smartphone. Get bombarded with e-mails from students etc. enough as it is, so the last thing I want is to have my e-mail with me everywhere I go. No desire for net access everywhere either.

My phone is just for calls and texts.

Because I'm cool and use it for texting.

I do hope that it's true that Perfect Dark is coming to XBLA, which strong indications point to being true.

The new KZ2 map pack looks fun... the train still reminds me too much of Gears but not enough to ruin it for me.

End of semester = end of gaming for me. Managing to play a few hours of SFIV a week. And been playing a little bit of Cave Story. Its good shit. Thats it :(

Quoted for truth. I have two tests and a final project due next week. for the same class.

This microprocessor class is ruining my life. Text-based breakout written in assembly language. on an ARM7 processor (The same one thats in the Original DS)/GBAs.

Last night my Dual Shock 3 turned off during a MGS4 cutscene from inactivity. The cutscenes are that long. I don't really mind it though, because its nice to watch the story for a bit, play a bit. Its kind of relaxing in a way.

What good is that nice looking device with the current shitty ass Zune software?

A screen like that is made for video, and transferring videos in the Zune software is as much fun as sticking a nail up your pee hole.

Fucking POS software re-encodes any video you put on the device, even if it's already in a Zune ready format.

I bought my Zune to watch videos on. Due to the $$$$$$y software, my Zune has become my portable Hexic machine.

What the fuck GGT? Why we so slow?

So my gaming update, more coherent because I'm on the PC instead of the Touch:

-Playing through RE4, old school on the Gamecube. Because I only own that version. Chapter 4.

-Finished my Veteran run on RE5. Gonna work on getting all the unlockable weapons once I get back to it, but taking a break from it for now.

-Finished Mirror's Edge. I don't understand this. I didn't like it. I hated fighting people. I hated being indoors. I want a game where I'm a little Asian chick who runs on rooftops and it's fun. That's what they sold me on. That's what I wanted.

-Finished Retro Game Challenge. Fantastic little game, I really hope the sequel comes over here. Guadia Quest was really fucking fun, after I stopped being lost in the first dungeon for an hour.

-This level in Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts has killed the game for me. It's the plant-y one, the one the entrance to is in the Uptown area.

-Prince of Persia is very pretty and fun to play.

Mirror's Edge was a lot of fun. Yeah the fighting was bad, but shit, that game is unique and I'd imagine a sequel would make huge improvements.
Prince of Persia IS very pretty but its only fun for so long. If you ask me it gets really repetitive and has a terrible ending.
I'd even stretch that 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand is more fun than Prince Of Persia. Because it never takes itself seriously and its fucking fun.

Is it really necessary to have 2 Assassins Creed threads? I mean, do you have to make a thread in each platforms forum for every multiplatform game?

Hrmph! I made the general gaming AC2 thread very well dammit! Would like to hear what everyone has to say in one area.

Got 3 or 4 hours of Fable II in tonight. I'm still digging it a lot. Not the greatest game, but it's fun to play. Combat is simple and fun and there's a lot of crap to do in the world with quests etc.--even without bothering with the marriage and other sim stuff.
The marriage seemed really tacked onto Fable 2, I felt like Fable 1's love system was a little more intricate. But, that's probably because I can't remember what it was like. It's just lame that you can marry a chick and half the towns people in the first 2 minutes of getting to a new town. And just by dancing...

fuck.... been out all night going to local art gallerys...

every second saturday here in "flashy" miami there's a huge opening of all art galleries in a small area called wynwood. basically anyone and everyone who wants to "be important" or just party/get drunk is out to look at art (with very few actually caring about the art). I DJed a bit tonight but I'm exausted.

I had some video work up I'm sure you all have seen (that Mr. Walrus crap I did  I hate that thing now) that a few hundred people came to see for a video show.

Art gallery opnings in Miami are not what you see in movies or TV, it's more like basically huge block parties with art in between >_<

I came home tonight to find Resistance Retribution from gamefly... I have a gamefly Resistance 2 which I beat 2 nights ago so I infected that bitch. So far it's fun but I'm not too impressed.

If that's the case, then the topic should exist in the forum for the corresponding system(s) it's going to be released on which would just be stupid.

2x Red Faction topics
2x Bayonetta topics
2x Ghostbusters topics
2x Batman Arkham Asylum topics
2x BlazBlue topics (naw, FGT has this one covered)

Yes, there should be two threads for each game. The communities are different, even if the games are the same.

That's understandable for a game that is released* and is also online centered. But, we really have no idea what is happening with Assassins Creed 2 - it's premature to start platform centric threads.

*scratch that, if a game is not centered around online (COD4, Left 4 Dead ect.) then there really is no point in having separate threads...

Dr Mario Kart
04-12-2009, 06:11 AM
The communities being different doesnt have anything to do with whether the games have online content. There are 360 owners and there are PS3 owners. They should be going to as few subforums as possible to get platform specific content.

Its too messy to draw such a distinction and have them go to two different subforums.

To the extent that people are part of both communities, then they can go to two different subforums if they like.

I would be fine with having 360/PC/PS3 as a subforum for a HD gaming subforum, as long as the same thing isnt asked for other multiplatform, like gba/psp, or ds/psp or ps2/psp, etc. Its not the optimal solution, but since it does not affect me, they are welcome to it.

When you start grouping that many things together, you might as well eliminate all subforums and just go with the GAF style Gaming forum, where individual threads dont stay on the first page for very long.

So...I was thinking about getting this game that I vaguely know the mechanics of. I don't get the whole "real time" thing in the sense that if I play for an hour, come back 5 hours later, it's been 6 hours total in game, so I could potentially lose out on something I missed. I don't know if that's true or not, but it's just the feeling I get.

-Finished Mirror's Edge. I don't understand this. I didn't like it. I hated fighting people. I hated being indoors. I want a game where I'm a little Asian chick who runs on rooftops and it's fun. That's what they sold me on. That's what I wanted.

Yup. The fact that what Mirror's Edge was supposed to be was only 1/3 of the entire game is what made ME an awful game.

Mirror's Edge is fun for what, 30 minutes? The indoor/80 motherfuckers shooting at you portions that made up 67% of the game made it terrible.

PoP stinks.

Either, way its an interesting mod (even if it ruins the mood the devs were going for, but thats the point of mods, right?).

Dead Rising does that? I don't remember that at all. I knew you only had 3 days to do whatever you had to to do. and the save game/mission structure was HORRIBLE.

That's not how Dead Rising works. There's an ingame clock that runs faster than real life, and you have 72 in game hours to do shit. Kind of like Majora's Mask.

And there's no problem with save systems. There are save points around the mall. You save at them. People just get pissed because they die before saving and are pussies. And because you can't complete all the missions in one playthrough.

I thought some of the segments with dudes shooting at you in Mirror's Edge were fun. When it was just like 3 guys staggered throughout a parking garage, there was actually some fun strategy involved in planning out how to take them down. but then shit like the SERVER ROOM god just shoot me in the head.

the platforming was good, but what you do in the first level is what you do in the rest of the game. It's not quite auto-platforming like Prince of Persia/Ass Creed and it's fun enough for as long as the game lasts, but I can't see a sequel. If they do a sequel, it needs all kinds of crazy shit--they need to get out of the whole realism thing.

I agree with it would be hard to see a sequel, due to it being like a one trick pony. And also their DLC was a total bust... so I doubt they'll try anything more.

The game was really enjoyable, I liked the whole mechanic of feeling like you are really running across these roof tops and I think that the game really stands on its own and doesn't need a sequel to "explain" anything.

Why would you want one thread? If the game has multiplayer and people are playing it.. it would be kind of a nuisance to post up what version of the game you're playing every single time as opposed to just going into the system specific thread and saying "anybody up for a game right now?" If I bought a game for 360, I'd rather just read through the 360 side of it rather than sift through the PS3 posts.

Oh, I know. It's always been a subtle annoyance, but just in terms of recent events and the unnecessarily creation of 2 AC2 threads (we don't even know if it's going to be exclusive to the GBA).

And as I stated I agree that it's definitely ideal to have a released game in multiple threads (mariokart made me realize this), but with AC2 - the TEASER itself should only have on thread, so all discovered material can be in one place. Found a lot of information on AC2 that some may miss if they aren't aware of both threads.

BUT, I threw this idea away and just went with "I agree", because it gets to complicated making special rules for a particular game. So I admit, that it is best to keep it at a thread for each forum.

Hope that makes sense.

My ds has been getting mad love the past few days:
-Completed the first world of Henry Hatsworth. It's stupid good, and surprisingly challenging. It's the most fun I've had with a platformer....ever
-Ten songs into Elite Beat Agents. It's actually hard now. Canned Heat has me wanting to break my DS.
-Played like 10 minutes of Retro Game Challenge. I like the concept, but the only game I have unlocked is the Galaga clone and I can't even beat the second challenge.
-Stuck on the second mini game of Rhythm heaven. I must just suck at games, because I'm the only person alive who can't beat it.
-Played the first case and a half of Pheonix Wright. I'm in love with it.
-Started Chrono Trigger, got up to the part where you warp in the time machine, and that screen with the trippy visual just plays over and over and the music loops. Gay.

Maybe , the second game took longer for me since a few times I got really stuck as for what to do next. Either way my week basis is on playing for about 1-2 hours each day , which is about what I did. Plus I got held up at a few places.

I use a faq for PW if I don't get it quickly. Sometimes the hints for what evidence you need to use just aren't good or require you to remember one small tidbit that was mentioned when you were playing a week ago that you would never remember. (good thing I don't plan on going into criminal law!)

and I always use a FAQ for the grand finales in the last case. It kills the climax if I have to keep guessing and resetting my DS!

I think the only times in the first game I had to use a faq was in case 3 ; day 3 (the t-bone steak) and a few times in case 5. The rest weren't too hard. The second game I had to use a faq quite a few times since the second one seemed much more dense when it came to giving you clues. The pysch locks in particular were annoying.

How necessary would it be to try to get the first Phoenix Wright before playing Justice for All? JFA was easily available when I got my DS a few months ago and I see that the first is a bit hard to find at GS around here, so I may try to get a copy sometime soon.

I finished Tokyo Beat Down and the best things about it is the final boss fight The boss shows up with a tank and chases you as you run away from him while picking up rocket launcher ammo so you can turn around and shoot him to slowly damage the tank. and the special move one of the other characters you barely get to play with has, which is a painful-looking power bomb.

to be honest, the easiest to eliminate is TV... TV is such a huge waste of time and less productive than the internet, though the internet is still a big chunk...

I barely watch TV. The only show I watch is 24 right now, and I barely watch movies at all just because I find games more interesting.

I know a few relatives of mine who stopped watching TV and doing so they lost alot of weight because they actually felt like they had to do something.

Hah, great tips. So I stopped TV and TRIED playing Mass Effect. I haven't played for a while and I left off at this fire planet... me and my team members are level 10 and we have to go on foot now and I'm getting CREAMED.

I'm at the part that was in the E3 Footage (the first combat footage I think) where that huge robot thing lands and you are right into combat. Well, my teamates all get killed in like 1 shot by some random lazers and I get killed in 1 shot. I've tried it like 5 times now and my teamates die right when the battle starts and there are literally like 10 guys completely surrounding us.

What in the world am I doing wrong?! Am I at a late stage in the game at to low of a level? Or do I just suck at combat?

Needless to say... that was not a welcoming experience.

I played 2 of the worst rated (according to Metacritic) 360 games this weekend, History Channel: Battle for the Pacific is as bad as its review scores suggest, at least it was short though, the Achievements sucked as well.

Shellshock 2 I actually thought was ok, I'm not sure why it's been rated so badly, seem like jus a generic FPS, it's not particularly bad. I've certainly played worse.

Also made some good progress on Silent Hill: Homecoming, which I'm enjoying so far. Don't like it as much as 2 or 3, but it's decent.

Finished co-oping Gears 2 on Insane as well, I always miss Gears a bit once I've finished it, it's such a good co-op game.

Yeah she was not bad looking at all, I thought there was some good riffs on Final Justice, most of the "fat man always looking for food" stuff was gold.

Tell me how you guys do it! I look up to you all... *cries*

It's a matter of prioritizing hobbies in your free time, to make time for the ones you enjoy the most.

For me it's roughly:

Girlfriend
Friends/family/social outings
Movies
Reading (has increased a lot since getting a Kindle)
TV (currently watch Lost, 24, Heroes, Desperate Housewives, often watch shows on DVD as well)
Sports (if my teams are on in a big game this jumps to the top)
Video games
Goofing on the internet

I still have a fair amount of free time despite working a lot, but not much for games as my interest in them has dwindled over the years.

So you just have to decide if you like games more than Internet goofing and TV and if so cut back on those.

I enjoyed R1 more also but I'm not going to go as far as saying that the sequel was "goddamn horrible". The level design could've been better but they introduced a killer co-op mode and the rest of the online play isn't half bad.

I went into R2 expecting horrible things since everyone here seems to hate it so much. I was pleasantly surprised to get a decent FPS and a dozen hours of fun.

As for Outrun, I'm not getting it. To this day, I've only spent 1600 points on the Marketplace and I'm not planning on spending more unless we get a Marvel vs Capcom 2 with online play and even then I probably won't get it.

R2's co-op mode is one of the best out there and probably the only reason I'd keep playing it.

The single-player was decent and at least good enough to finish, though it would have been nice if they could've taken another six months or so to continue working on polishing it and fleshing out the MP a bit more, as well.

You have to crouch and put your nose against the wall, then peek out and shoot whatever enemy is in your way, js1. If any game needed a cover system.. that game was it. And make sure you're using that standard machine gun as every other gun in the game sucks. I think I went through both games using that standard machine gun and the standard alien gun unless you were forced to use another weapon.
