I'm in the same boat. I had never heard of Fallout until I started seeing previews. I haven't been into PC gaming since I was in middle school so I missed out on alot of great games. For me, the late 90s were either EA Sports games, Street Fighter or Virtua Fighter. Anything else just fell off my radar because I didn't have enough time to play as much as I do now.

you haven't played with both programs long enough to warrant that opinion (I assume)... flash is good with vectors but not still art. it's best used as animation, but as a drawing tool? it's clunky as hell as well as it dosn't have half the tools for drawing as illustrator does. Flash and Illustrator are both great programs but for different things. Illustrator = drawing/illustration, Flash = animation/interaction

I've spent probably over a few hundred hours with both programs knowing the ins-and-outs. >_<

I've been using Photoshop for about fourteen years now, Flash for about eight, and Illustrator whenever a job requires it (which has only been once or twice in the past few years).

Maybe it's that I've become biased towards Flash, maybe it's just that I've gotten used to using a tablet and the brush and subselection tools, but I don't like Illustrator. I find it nonintuitive, and I know other animators who feel much the same way. Besides, I've been liking some of the results (http://blueshinra.deviantart.com/gallery/#_browse/fanart/vector) I've had so far with drawing in Flash so far and thus see little reason to mess around with Illustrator in my spare time.

I know that they're intended for different uses, but remember that Flash started out as a tool to make interactive web media, and the basic interface has always reflected that - it's very clunky as an animation program, especially when compared to the likes of After Effects, but admittedly it has gotten a lot more tolerable over the years.

Anyway, perhaps all this is moot, since Painter pwns all as far as drawing with computers goes.

I love LittleBigPlanet. I just sunk more time into trying to get all the stickers I could in the first two levels. Or well sections. Whatever. Fun game, can't wait to make my levels. The EyeToy is fun. I don't plan on playing this game consistently. I will put in time in between games and such.

I loved the first one. But I kept comparing it to Gears of War and was in this whole "PS3 sucks" phase. But I mean, it's a solid game and I really enjoyed the online component.

But I think the fight with that giant monster will stand up as one of the best boss fights I've ever played. Big assumptions... I know. But just by looking at it, it just seems so goddamn epic!

I didn't read in to the hype of the first one at all. I just knew that it was the fps for the early days of the PS3.

I want to double check my understanding of the mechanics of Valkyria Chronicles. I've been watching youtube footage (since I clearly cant play the demo :P).

Movement is real time, in that enemies are shooting at you. Your max movement distances is dictated by a bar at the bottom which which depletes while you run. Aiming to attack is manual, in that you have to move a crosshair with what I presume is the analog stick, though sometimes it seems like the crosshair auto-snaps to an enemy. Everything is frozen while you are aiming, which makes the whole manual aiming unnecessary?

After all of your guys have taken an action, you end your cycle and go into an enemy phase like advance wars/fire emblem, in which your guys auto-counter/defend.

What a strange mix of active and turn based conventions. I would've preferred pure turn based, but their ambiguity on the matter has kept me watching the game since it clearly wasnt a straight shooter.

I feel good that I was able to recognize the composer as the same as FFT/Stella Deus.

I like how boring that looks (your A.I. partners can't even be bothered to look at it), and the graphics look really stale (like from a launch title).

I also a big of fan of how the thing just picks you up (and you're not crushed by his hands) and throws you hundreds of yards away and you aren't hurt at all.

Hope the rest of the game looks better (didn't think the first Resistance was that bad), but that video was godawful.

Valkyria Chronicles is like putting a fresh coat of paint on the turn-based strategy RPG. There's a lot of familiar things, but by chucking out the square grid that most SRPGs use and going 3D to move around and also by adding the whole FPS-ish aiming system it makes it less about your characters stats and more about the player's skill. And when you add things like the "cover" system where you can duck behind low walls and stuff, and the ability to re-use characters you've already moved, it really adds more depth to the strategy elements.

I'm definatly hyped for the game. I've already played the demo several times, and really wish there was more to it, but I guess there's only another week to wait.

Using L1 and R1 auto snaps to different enemies on the field, but you can still aim after the snap has taken place. Manual aiming is for aiming at different body parts. Since all your bullets will land somewhere in the circle, it's a good idea to aim at the body, which is the biggest area. But I guess you may want to aim for the head or groin in some situations.

The only thing I didn't like about the aim system in Valkyria is that you can only do it once. It would be better if I could aim for a second and then bring it back down if I don't have a good shot. I know they tried to make it realistic but I wouldn't fire if I didn't have a good shot and it makes no sense that I can't take a shot until my next turn even if I just look through the scope/site.

Yeah that does kinda suck, but you can always use another command point (or whatever they're called) to take another turn with that character, so its not a complete wash.

I'm sticking with P3: The Answer. I'm about 6 hours in, but I do really miss the school socializing aspect from The Journey.

And I've played a bit more of Assassin's Creed. Great game so far. I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying it. The graphics are pretty and everything moves real smooth. Doesn't seem like it has much replayability tho, so I'll probably trade it in after I'm done with it, but I'll be enjoying it while it lasts.

Too bad about Fallout on PS3. Oddly enough, I went with the 360 version too--but mainly because I have more pending PS3 games right now, and I wanted to balance out the amount of stuff that gets installed on the HDD. Didn't know Bethesda would have such a hard time with PS3 considering they got Oblivion to run on it without much incident.

I understand that. It's like, I hit account balance before I withdrew(saturday), it said I was fine. But when I check my account history(today), it says at the time I withdrew I was $2 shy of the withdrawal amount. RE4 is absolutely a shooter. RE4 Wii Edition just made the game significantly more playable.

Just finished the Banjo demo and...I'm not entirely impressed. Looks great, music's good, but I must digress my biggest complaint: The controls. They're loose as hell. It might just be the earlier vehicles, but it's just slick. If you land a big jump, you're going to spin out. You also have to REPEATEDLY press the B button to float across water. What the hell?

That being said, near the end of the demo, it felt sort of comfortable. Not entirely. I had to build my own vehicle to beat a challenge. And I barely beat that challenge because I ran out of Egg Gun ammo.

I've never really cared for the GTA franchise as a whole, but San Andreas just really pulled me in. I was hoping 4 would be a continuation of that, but I was let down. Then I got into Crackdown and I realize that's what I wanted GTA IV to be.

I second that, I fucking hate turn based combat. I could never play another turn based game, Mass Effect killed it for me, along with Oblivion. For now on it's only RPGs with real time combat for me.

No gaming lately for me as I'm swamped with academic Job interviews this week. Was out of town Saturday through Tuesday for one, and will be gone from Tomorrow through Saturday for another. Maybe I'll get some Sonic Rush in sometime as I still need to start it. I was busy preparing on my flight down for the first interview and too tired to game on the flight back.

Banjo was amusing, but I didn't take it seriously.

I was playing the TRU demo when my power blinked for a bit. Shut everything off, but it came back quick enough so my 360 still had power, and it had the RRoD. I was pissed. Then I shut it off and turned it back on and it's fine now, for the time being that is. I'm guessing that's just an omen of what's to come.

I've been waiting for it for it to happen, and it's probably going to die right before or during GoW1.

Been playing zelda: TP on wii lately since that is what gamefly shipped me (oddly it was oon the bottom of my list) Got midnight club from them also but just couldn't get into it. The difficulty was through the roof and just don't have the paitence for that kind of game atm.

Going to download the Banjo demo hoping it is somewhat good (doubtful from what everyone has said so far). Might just get the original off of xbox live when it hits if the new one does flop.

Anyway, I'd like to state something that might grab your attention... this game is completely different from the ordinary Dynasty Warriors series. Let's start with a few basics. You can equip your primary and secondary weapons based on what you will. For example, if you want Sun Shang Xiang having a spear, then her moves will instantly change to Zhao Yun's, if the weapon is switched to the spear using the circle button. The more often you use the weapon, the more experience you will gain from that and so you will get a attack boost, as you do in these games.

In the demo version, you're able to choose between the spear, bow, staff, club or halberd. Your moves will vary based on what you equip. You're able to choose the armor you want to equip on your LEFT HAND, RIGHT HAND, LEFT FOOT and RIGHT FOOT. Let's say if you equip a FIRE element onto your left hand and recovery on your right hand, you'll have the fire attack and also then able to heal yourself. In the video, we equipped the "float" and "double jump" on Sun Shang Xiang's foot armors, that means she can perform a double jump and even fly. So it really depends on what and how you customize your characters. It can all make a difference from whats been shown and more importantly suit your play style.

The game control system has changed, unlike the past Warriors series, and the gameplay has a big improvement in some aspects. Now the game is more to the strategic side of things, for example, you can close a tiger cave to avoid tigers coming out and eating your flesh! There are also plenty of missions for you to spend your time over. Also another neat element is that the items that drop on the battlefield are no longer executed instantly. You can collect your items and execute them when you want to.

I've been playing more and more Disgaea. I've almost clocked in 14 hours or so. I've grinded my characters (all 6 of them :lol:) to be at least 10 and my highest (Lahral) is just about 20. Either way, I'm enjoying the game more now that I'm not so concerned with grinding.

I would prefer a turn based Fallout game, if it was 2D and had come out 7 years ago.

As it stands, Black Isle does not exist anymore and some people can accept that, others can't. Fallout 3 absolutely nails the Fallout atmosphere and universe. It's a great game. Not AS great as the old Fallout games were back then, but it'd be almost impossible for it to be with that old team gone. For good. I'm happy with what it is, because I get to be in that universe again and I get to kill radscorpions, and use Nuka-Cola, and make smartass replies.

VATS is what Fallout would be if it wasn't turn based. Things change, DMK. I would say that something along the lines of Valkyria Chronicles would probably be better, but the way things are with Fallout 3 are just fine. The game really does remind me of what I pictured the turn based battles playing out like when I played those games 10 years ago.

Crippling an enemy's leg so you can back away from them with enough AP left to attack without being attacked is just as valid an option here, except it's movement speed, not movement due to AP. Same goes with attacking limbs to remove weapons or again, attacking legs to catch up to someone who's running.

Fallout 3 is done better than anyone else in the industry could have done a sequel to Fallout in 2008, and still recieved a huge budget to do it with.

Fucking people drive me nuts. Of course you're going to dislike the game when you go in "dismissing it as another shooter" and expecting turn based. We've known for over a year it isn't going to be turn based!

In the early days, before people could see it in action, VATS was originally advertised as being a second way to play the game - Two different play styles contained within the same game. I was following it and was paranoid about how you could even have two distinct systems, why you would want to, and what system the game was really designed around.

So, the only reason you follow it, is to bitch about it. Seeing as how you will never play Fallout 3.

VATS never advertised tying movement to AP, it was always a targeting mechanism. Using movement based points never really works well in 3D either, because it's hard to quantify how the numbers mean anything, unless you stay hex-based, which could maybe work, but cut your sales in half.

Fallout 1 and 2 will always exist and they're both long enough that I could play them every couple years and be happy. I'm glad to have something new with the Fallout setting.

That Wii Bond shot is hilarious. Must be using some slick Quake engine stuff there on that water.

you forget about portable gaming, dmaul. That will still cater to me for quite some time.

Easier to play while sitting at the computer, It might be even easier in the future to sit here and complain about next-gen.

We'll see. Portables will probably be fully 3D next generation, and feature a lot of online play. Possibly could even be download only games. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for those innovations. ;)

VATS shooting is the +1 AP targeted shooting from fallout, regular shooting is representative of the other actions you would take. I'm happy with it. Sorry you're missing out on the next Fallout RPG.

People tend to forget that the old Fallout didn't even have an overworld, it was just a map you clicked on different locations to, and got random encounters on. How do you expect a turn based system to work on world the size of Fallout 3's?
