I'd be iffy about BlazBlue. Isn't most of the BlazBlue community comprised of the GG community? If so, I would think another game for the GG/BB community would definitely not be a shoe in, especially since the "incident" at EVO 2k7.

I'd think CvS2 would have a good chance of being taken off, the scene is dying off pretty fast.

I see the length of match complaint for 3s but that game is still hella popular. I'd be surprised if it wasn't included.

They should promote it as "Last year to play 3s" and make a big deal about it. Call it like the Final Tournament or something... that would be pretty cool and motivate a lot of people to play, to be the final champion.

No idea, as I can't read any of it, lol. There are a handful of different options to pick from, and I've seen screenshots of minigame stuff too. There seems to be unlockables (as I mentioned, a bunch of different things popped up after I beat it once), so that should help. I'm pretty sure one of the options I picked was Survival, as it was NOT the arcade icon, but played very similarly. I didn't play that long enough to find out though.

Strangest thing is the special moves, as QCB+any of the three attack buttons = hurricane kick for Ryu for example. It's simplified, but I honestly suck at the more complex elements of Street Fighter, so I'm cool with that.

Edit: just glanced at Gamefaqs, and at the very least you can unlock 4 characters using the pts you get in Arcade mode. I only got 800 on my quick playthrough and you need 8000 to get all four listed there, so at least ~10 playthroughs? Then there are multiple endings too, so that should help longevity.

Edit 2: OOOO, it seems every character has their own ending, and you see it depending on who delivers the final blow to the boss, so you gotta play through arcade at least, what, ~20 times (how many characters are there again?)

Sweet. I love unlocking shit in fighting games. That's part of the reason I spent so many dozens of hours playing Soul Calibur 1 and Marvel Vs. Capcom 2.

I just remember spending a lot more time on SC1. Ironically, SC2 had unlockable weapons, but I didn't feel like it was worth playing that game for long.

I definitely unlocked all the art in SC1, though. Because I'm awesome. And SC1 is awesome.

But one thing that I am really impressed about are the minigames. Them shits are fun as hell. The PTX-40A minigame is by far the best one as it's a top down shooter that I'd love for them to expand on in a Wii-ware release or something.

There is a LOT of stuff to unlock. I got Saki (1000 zenny) after beating the game once (800 points) and then doing a few mini games in original mode (200 points for doing three of them), which are all Wiimote-based. The game will ask you to remove any controller attachments first before entering the original game mode.


While this is no big deal for a fighting game, it's still nice to see good endings again. You get a slideshow/text ending, followed by a short animated cut scene for whoever landed the final blow against the last boss, then you get to play the Doronjo and friends bicycle mini game during the credits.

Yea Tekken Force mode was f'n sweet. Me and my buddies were about 12 when that game came out and the day I got Dr. B was like the best day of that summer. I remember I was the best at it but not good enough to get through with regular characters so we used Gon and just spun the whole time until the boss fights... we switched since it was tiring pressing Circle the whole time.

SOOOO! Whats up dudes, I just got back from 5 hours or so of playing and watching Blazblue. Fun! Excellent stuff!



It feels really weird compared to most other fighting games in terms of the jumping physics, like its way less floaty than GG but it's still fastish. Wakeup reminds me of Tekken alot too!


Jin's normals are really really realllllly slow, but other than that he's really great. It makes playing a rushy ragna player a bitch, but then again I suck right now since its day one for me!




I fucking hate Arakune already, that dudes so annoying and takes like 20 minutes to kill anybody!

Back+(T) = Tag out
(Attack)+(T) = Baroque Activation (uses all of your red life)
QCF+(T) = Aircombo Tag (uses 1 level of meter)
(A)+(B)+(C) = Dash shortcut (hold Up+Forward and do this to Instant Air Dash)
(A)+(B)+(C) while guarding = Advance Guard (Push Block)
(A)+(B)+(C)+(T) = Mega Crush (A combo breaker, takes 2 levels of meter and some Yellow life)
QCD+(T) while guarding = Variable Counter (an alpha counter tag, takes one meter)

It is also known that you can do a Variable Combination Super (Both characters super together), Delayed Hyper Combo (like MvC2), and Snapback (like MvC2).

All characters can double jump and air dash.

Launchers are all done using DF+(C).

Specials can be canceled into Supers.

Just to let you all know a little more about Baroque;

Activation uses all of your Red life. The duration of the effect does not seem based on how much red life you had, it seems set. Activation cancels any special or normal move you were in into a nuetral state, so it works as a roman cancel. For the duration of the glowing on your character, you will deal bonus damage proportionate to the amount of red life you used to activate. In a combo, where hits are heavily scaled already, this is not as noticable. But consider punishing someone's wiffed attack with a naked BAROQUE xx SHINKUU HADOUKEN. We saw this do 80% once at the Evo build. I dont know if things this dramatic can still happen in the final build, but you can bet your ass ill be testing it when I get my hands on it.

So a typical combo for any character is going to be

(Ground chain) -> (assist hits) -> (dash in a do same ground chain) xx (Baroque) -> (dash in and do the same ground chain) -> (launcher into air combo into super or just super)

man I jus got hella owned at the BlazBlue tournament...

there was all these ppl there, yet my first match fortunately gets to be against one of the 3 doods that is ALWAYS there whenever I go and hands my ass for free.

I was playing him and u can hear in the background "hey watch this match! the gap between their skill levels in insane!" and then I almost got perfected... 4 times.

my 2nd match was against the dood who works at the arcade!! again, another dood with a crap load more experience with the game that I have.

What a night. A couple of my friends and I drove out SJSU to play SFIV and BlazBlue. Then drove the 15 minutes to SVGL to play T6 and BlazBlue. (*In addition to all the other great FG's at both spots*)

SVGL has T6 and BlazBlue in HD Japanese Cabs with Sanwa Parts. Tooooo nice. I remember MarkMan mentioning that BlazBlue was gorgeous. I have to agree with him. SJSU has BlazBlue in a regular cab opposed to SVGL. Shit is like night and day.

Tons of great Noel, Tager, Jin and Rachel players at SVGL tonight. Had one Litchi player, but a great Rachel player handed him his.

JEKKI, sorry things didn't work out at the BlazBlue tourney. People pick up shit quick. Then again it helps when you are there ALL the time.

I have some opinions/arguments. Mainly the Nubytech Street Fighter 15th Anniversary Arcade Stick stick. No way is that thing a B+ unmodded. I think you missed it by the few ranks. While built well (solid box, headset support, dual systems, great art), the buttons and joystick are nearly unplayable. Without it modded it's uncompetitive. It's not as good as the others you ranked in the B+ and not even better than the ones ranked in B (the Hori Tekken 5 Anniversary Arcade Stick is better). Other than this issue, great list.

Also, please ranks the Mas. I paid so much for mine years ago. I don't want to think it to be obsolete. Yes, their were issues. I changed out the PBC in mine because it had lag issues working with converters. Other than that, it's still a part of my collection.

controlcommerce... I had this discussion on SRK. I think it is too hard to rate a MAS. I have 4 different MAS sticks and their quality varies. The PCB is definitely the issue and they didn't get that right until later on.

Early 2000 MAS sticks were a nightmare for Dreamcast owners and PS2 owners lol.

The Nubytech unmodded, i decent, I think. I think it's stock Bao Lian parts aren't THAT bad, the buttons are, but still, with it's ease of modding, it ranks up there.

You can't easily mod a T5 anniversary stick... but with a Nubytech stick, you don't need to solder at all, it's probably one of the easiest mods for both STICK and BUTTONS. No other stick except certain HRAPs can claim that.

Pretty much. The only main difference is. It is wireless (plugs into Wii remote).

If you want to search for a GameCube Soul Calibur II or GameCube Fighting Stick, that would be the better buy IMO.

Might be cheaper too.

I see a new one on ebay for $90 shipped... not sure if that is in your price range. But that's for a NEW one lol.

As for the Fighting stick 3, thanks MM for clearing that up. Though that button mapping can easily be rectified by shifting all the buttons to the left and placing the L1 and L2 buttons on the far right column when modding. The inside 6 button placement feels much better than the outer six for sure.

EDIT: I'm also getting a PS3 finally. Is Battle Fantasia worth importing? And if so, anyone have a spare 5 off 50 or 8 off 50 playasia code they would graciously send to me?

EDIT2: Also, I know you said quality is the main idea of your ranking, but prices or price ranges of said sticks would be nice. I'm sure we'd like to get the best bang for the buck when considering an investment in a FG tool.

EDIT3: Modding the FS3 wasn't a horrible experience. I just followed the second post on the SRK thread about the FS3 and completed the whole process in one afternoon without a hitch. I think it to be one of the easiest mods since all of the parts needed to secure it are there, and all that is needed is a soldering pen, solder, wire, and a file/dremmel.

i think mod capability is important. not so much for being able to swap the parts you want in it, but if you need to repair it it's so easy to get done.

I'd say try Vega or Bison. And if you want combos, refer to videos or peruse through the ST wiki at SRK. Nothing much has changed in terms of cancels in HDR so much of the combos should cross over.

Your last comment is essentially how to play shotos, no other way to play them as effective, especially since projectiles are so big in SF2.

Are there any characters that are really "fun" to play in HD Remix? I'm trying really hard to get into the game, but I haven't been able to learn any combos on my own (which is why I love KoFXI) and I can't find a good site online to learn them, so that means my matches consist of hadoken, hadoken, hadoken, shoryoken, ad naseum.
t(ony) hawk is a decent character, but he has a real bad match up against guile, who is a pretty popular character online. he's my secondary. j.jabs

and of course, deejay. only because i like his really easy combo. crossup j.mk, c.lpx2, s.mp, hk sobat. sooooo easy and fun to do. his upkicks juggle so that's always fun, and you can connect with his super afterwards too.

try playing without a projectile. you learn a lot about using normal moves =)

i usually turtle. a lot of players are really impatient and if you wait long enough, they'll do the buffalo headbutt. on block is when you have to dig deep in and think about what they're gonna do. are they gonna rush punch again, or are they gonna try to bait you before rush punching? i've gotten away with things like walk up throw, and i'm sure other characters have different options.

Today is the start of a new project that I’m either going to call “From Chumps to Champs” or “From Scrubs to the Winners Clubs.” And no, I didn’t come up with those names, my buddy John Rog Van Damme did. Anyways, so the project or experiment or whatever you want to call this is going to consist of me training two players, John Rog and MYK. The goal is to get them to place Top 8 in a tournament between now and March 15, 2009, so it’s a three month project.

In this podcast, I interview both of them separately and talk with them about the first things I need them to do, as well as what they’re having trouble with and some guidance on what they need to work on this coming week.

You can expect weekly status updates either by blog or more likely, via podcast. It’s either going to be in attached to the end of the regular show or it’s going to be it’s own separate show every week, depending on how long it is.

I played online for the first time, and actually had....FUN! Got into a match with someone who was pretty cool (I love this no mic stuff) and we ended up playing for like 30 minutes. He was much better than me, but it was still fun because we would pick random characters and stuff. I was pleasantly surprised after facing an army of cheap Kiliks in SC4 to find someone that played for fun.

We should play! Good to see another Blanka user. Do you think my strategy would work though? I too like to switch it up on occasion. But I'm not really good with anyone else... in almost every other SF I've had Akuma as main. So, when I first got Remix I picked him but I couldn't get any of his moves to work with the controller so I switched to Blanka. I'm a lot better with the controller now so I started using Akuma a little bit more. But I don't like how he takes/dishes out so much damage. I'm more of a chip fighter and when Akuma falls into a combo trap, most of his health goes away. :(

I have it for PSN unfortunately. All the custom and retail sticks I have are for PSX/PS2 and I never bothered to get any fighters for 360 (minus HF, UMK3 and Battle Fantasia)

Not sure if your strategy would work with the Blanka hop. kainzero would know better than I about that. Usually to bait out Shoryu's I'll whiff Blanka ball ---> random Elec. Depending on the skill level of the other person, you won't even have to do that. In that case you just need to get within sweep distance or get in close in time to block.

Again it all depends on the player you are playing against and how you play Blanka. If you go for j.lk/fk a bunch like I do, you open yourself up to players wanting to throw out Shoryu or hit you with an AA normal. Mixing up your game is always nice but being random isn't :)

but imo, ken's jab dp recovers too fast to punish consistently. i get caught so much with jab dpx2.

also, if you walk up too close, he'll just spam throw, so when you hop back you'll just get whiffed strong or something.

iirc, i think blanka's hop is a corpse hop, so you could cross him up by hopping.

That would be incorrect. I know a couple of us in the FG thread play as him (I usually main him). The reason I change up characters is that I get bored as hell playing Blanka all the time or counter-picking.

Ask Chac, Jim, JEKKI, Rodimus, or any of the other CAG FG Thread alumni.....I (usually) play Blanka/Vega so much it's almost sickening.'Specially in CvS2. Whiffed A-Groove activations = Beef + :lol:

Dude don't even get me started on Lightan. He has to recover from fucking dashing forward and has to recover from jabs. He's stupid, stupid, stupid slow. LP Mech isn't quite as slow, and has projectiles which helps, but he's still pretty slow.
