What was the general consensus on the netcode for the PS3 version of HD Remix? Yay or nay?
Overall, I'd say yay. The game does a good job of hiding lag, very similar to GGPOs methods. But again, this is dependent on connections, locations, bandwidth etc. I had to swap out my crappy wireless router because it was dcing me and not allowing me to play with certain people.

Also while I've been playing, I won't say the online is perfect. I have experienced several glitches (though not nearly frequent enough to warrant a hisy fit). Some of those were the hp bar and round wins not updating correctly and connection errors until I restart the game. I honestly think STHD is the best downloadable-exclusive content ever. Not just as a fighting gamer, but also looking at the work put into it. I also think it has the best online connection, especially considering it's a fighter. You won't regret dling it, especially if you either are a fighting game fan or a street fighter fan.

Yeah, Alex is beefy. I like to, when I think my opponent will be caught off-guard or as a counter hit, to jump up and then immediately hit hard attack to dive down. They stagger from the dive for a free Level 3 Hyper Bomb :)

Its fun but in no way worth buying a wii for. It bombed in japan hard, less then 28k copies sold, so capcom will likely try to put it on xbla/psn to re-coup some costs. I am enjoying the game but really with no online, it has only so much replayability.

a situation arose and I was able to stop by for a bit...

and I spent $17 playing BlazBlue alone :bomb:

the fobs werent there this time tho... it was a group of nerds instead... and they still kicked my ass!!

I helped one guy get to like 20 wins, then his friend beat him, then I helped that guy get 20 wins!!

by the time I finally beat him his friends were like 'lol he finally got used to fighting you' and then they left

then I was able to beat everyone else!!

I'm getting better, but still have trouble figuring out how to perform in certain situations...

plus I'm not at the advanced level of execution yet... still doing basics...

With the exception of Mega Man being in TvC, I could care less about that game. It looks cool but I was never really into MvC or MvC2. Looks like more of the same.

Well, if you are concerned about 1080p, you'd have to invest in tv's 26" and above. Below that, it's just 720p. There are LCD monitors that have hdtv tuners that can use 1080p signal, but about a cm and less than an inch are cut off from the top and sides respectively because of the 16:10 ratio.

Otherwise if you're fine with 720p (which is perfectly fine, since few games render in 1080p), you're good to go.

I have one of those 20" Samsung LCDs w/HDTV tuner and it's working out great for me. I believe I got it 270 before tax and after rebate not too long ago. I believe they're much cheaper now.

Enough about resolution though, the main factor you should look for in most hdtvs is the contrast ratio, and in the FGT's case, response time. Generally high ratios like 10,000:1 is good, and I believe many of the later HDTVs don't have much problems with upscaling and response time (input lag). Just make sure it's a decent amount. And sorry, I don't know much about the Element Brand... Don't they make skateboards?

I've never heard of Element, but if you can get a 19" LCD for under $200 that's pretty good. I picked up a 50" Samsung DLP for $700 a few months ago. It's a phenominal TV. Honestly the picture is better than my Dad's 60" Sony LCD.

I still play STHDR. But if you mean on GGPO, I can always hop on there as well. And if you have STHD, we can go classic mode also. I know a couple tips for Chun I wouldn't mind passing along. I believe a couple other FGT frequenters play Chun, like Markmang. Just send a pm if you're up for it.

btw, anyone here play DBZ Burst Limit? It's a pretty awesome game for $19.99 (gamecrazy). Similar to the Budokai series, but with some gameplay mechanic changes. Basically it's a common simple 3d fighter under that Super Saiyan exterior. There's online play, though I haven't touched that yet. There's a crap load of recycled scenes/graphics, but it's fairly deep yet easy to pick up.

I hate blanka. My friend and I were playing the other day (his first time). I was playing Gief, he was blanka. Once he figured out he could do his electricity move everytime I tried to move in I was fucked.

I guess staying in good range for poke/throw games is always the best option, but the ball comes out so quick and he's so slippery that it's tough.

I'm pretty certain nobody plays FF Special online. It was an impulse buy for me. I wish I could get my $10 back. I must've fired that game up only 4 or 5 times.

I would get SamSho 2 if there wasn't a collection coming out soon. SNK just went too collection crazy. I don't see how they expect people to buy thier titles on the VC or XBLA when you can get the collections for under $20. I'm still kicking myself for buying Baseball Stars 2.

Online play is really where Street Fighter IV will really shine. The whole game is clearly weighted toward Live competition; the more you play, the more titles and icons you unlock to show off to other people in the multi-player lobby. That's really no surprise since SF has always been about human competition, and Live is clearly the next evolution of player match-ups. We also liked the ability for anyone on our friends list to challenge us in the middle o our match-as if they walked up next to us in the arcade and dropped in a quarter.

Conclusion: It should make Capcom proud as well as every fighting gamer proud. Street Fighter IV says we can be trusted with our own legacy, that you can respect the past while living in the present day, and that sequels –even highly anticipated ones with a legion of passionate fans-don’t have to stink.

I figured it has been. I'm sure it's all find tuning right now, or working out promotional deals with other companies at this point. But what I mean to say is, despite it's actual development progress, most games aren't reviewed until they're released (a few weeks before at most). Just seemed odd to me.

Obviously, an earlier review is generally better, as that only means that the developer is fully confident in its product to allow a critic's opinion to be published well before launch.

He'd jump in with some deep attack, then jab me when he landed and go right into his command throw. Rinse and repeat! What's the best way out of that? Do you need to NOT block one of the initial hits, or something like that? It seemed like I could dragon punch or vertical roll Hawk out of the air on that initial jump in... but if I didn't use a shoto or Blanka I was completely helpless!

BustaUppa that's one of his strongest techniques and very tough to get out of once you're in that situation. Honda has a similar strength with his ochio throw, and so do boxer and sim with headbutt and yoga noogie.

www.sirlin.net has good strategy for each character and talks about balancing and weaknesses. I'm not sure off the top of my head what gets you out of that specific situation, but either there or SRK should help.

If you eat one of the hits, you should be able to dragon punch or throw out of the command throw. If you are using Blanka, electricity will crush people that jump in. If you are using someone that has no other attack to compete with it, find the timing of the air attack and jump up and throw out an attack that counters the move.

Yeah some of those tick/command throw chains/traps work both ways in that they have very small windows to break out of them, but also are very tough to time for the attacker to pull it off.

And a player that relies on them likely spent most of their time learning that specific skill and when it gets broken, doesn't know other aspects of the matchup that will allow you to win.

Or they do, and they're just a great player.

HD Remix isnt released anywhere but the US because of all the issues. Once they fix the issues, they will patch the US releases as well (360 one is mostly fine, only had a glitch once or twice, PS3 one is nearly unplayable online however).

going from HD remix back to GGPO is super hard. shoryuken timing is tight again, have to do 360s again... damn. got raped yesterday. i felt like an open book, 'cause i hate when hondas beast on my ken, i feel like crap since that's supposed to be hugely skewed in favor of ken. also i kept getting thrown first. i don't know why. chun is ridiculous like that, and damn her girly hit boxes.

the mixup happens on when he does the 360. how many crouching jabs, 0, 1, or 2? and that messes up your reversal timing. or if you're like me, you can't do reversals consistently anyway.

it's more of a problem with the 360 characters because they have ridiculous throw range and can do it after a potential 3 jabs. i think honda only gets one jab after his splash or butt slam.

Is it possible to do an SRK motion for each jab?

btw, for charge chars, what do I do if i block the jump in, how do I get out of the ground mixup. The down charge would be lost right? They have the advantage in throwing, right?

Or should I just never let that happen and anti-air before the jump in?

i totally forgot about charge characters since i don't play them, so i don't know about how to get out of it. i suppose if they're jumping at you on wakeup, you have to reversal the jump in, and it's more or less to get out of the throw loop than to counter since t.hawk can do a safe jump jab.

i would be wary about throwing crouching shorts. i've faced many giefs and chuns where i see my c.jab / c.short / sweep on screen, passing through their sprite, but get thrown afterwards.

blockstring charge is okay if they don't have throw range, but watch out for chuns / sims / 360s, they won't give you enough time to regain charge.

Hmmm... I use her from time to time. She can be fun to mix things up. One thing I love about Mai's basic moveset is her aerial buttslam. It has priority, speed, range/trajectory, and is pretty unpunishable if it hits a blocking opponent the correct way (bounces right off). It even outpriorities many general move counters. It seems that the Genocide Cutter is no match for Mai's rump. ;)

The only sense I can make of it would be another Garou team (which Mai would fit in nicely with.) Or give Kim his usual Choi & Chang, but then who would Raiden be with? Who do you guys think will fit the slot for the SNK cheap boss this time around? Possibly someone new? Rugal or Adelheid anyone?

Ive been playing HD Remix on the 360 pad since ive been lazy to hook up the arcade stick, just to get some more wins to get the 100 wins in ranked achievement. I stick to Gief/Chun since they're the easiest to use basic attacks and win with. Had some awesome matches tonight except for some douchebag named Double Barrel. Guy had the crappiest ken on earth but would resort to jab/throw combos and then turtleing for the rest of the match. He won against my chun and then we met up again against my gief and i almost got him but his crap tactics and turtleing got me in the end. What a douche.

When i get my ass kicked by good players, i give them a thumbs up, but these tools, ugh. I did end up playing a E-Honda that demolished me, i really am lost against honda, hes so insanely powerful.

I've just read a lot of sites saying it was to be the end of the "Tales of Ash" Saga. But then again it's all just speculation. I hope I'm wrong cause I'd like to see them end it with a bigger roster which means more story.

Played some more HDR, and I lost to an ultra spammy Ken. Fireball, fireball, Shoryuken, rinse/repeat. :( Oh well, I rocked some other people with T. Hawk, which made up for the sadness. It feels good to get used to the timing on j.jab-->command throw. I also found out my win/loss record, which stands at a mighty 16/82. :lol: Since I have to start packing later this week for my move to Sacramento, I might just install the rest of the games I have, and give HDR some rest...for now.

Hm, I'd like MarkMan's input on this. Obviously there might be some delay issues, but hopefully nothing major. This would help me make a better decision on which route to take with the tournament stick... considering that I'll likely be getting the game on both consoles.

Wow. I seriously scared myself just now as I ended my last game on HDR. I was going against this decent Honda with Hawk, and I scraped out the first round with a win. On round 2, something kicked in, and I busted out a j.jab lock with 2 storm hammers and a normal throw for a near-perfect victory. o_o I decided that was a good time to quit while I was ahead.

Time to get some food, install LBP, and celebrate the new year. Happy New Year FGT!!

Oh aite.. I used to play Tekken 5 all day and night so maybe when Tekken 6 comes out we can play that. There was this one dude at this local gaming store a couple years ago that was insane. He used Nina.. black guy that refered to himself as B. Regal or something like that. He said he did really well at tournaments.. when I got home I looked him up. He was legit. Me and my buddy both went 1-20 against him.

I played a fuckload of MVC2 at a mall in whichita falls, tx today. First time I've ever played the game so I was horrible, but I had a tooooon of fun. I don't think I won a match whether it was against one of the arcade dudes or the computer, but I had a great time. They had a pretty cool setup for it. The control panel was in front of a big screen T.V. I also played a little Tekken 5 DR (As soon as I get a stick I'm going to learn it) and Soul Caliber 2. I was pissed I couldn't do any of my SC4 cassandra combos :lol:.

Although, a friend of mine got me to watch one of the newer seasons, and sure enough, he was back, playing Tommy again. That season wasn't half-bad, although it certainly wasn't something you would enjoy if you were used to seeing him as the Green Ranger.

Fighter-related: I think I like Guile just a tiny bit more than Dee Jay, although I can execute Jay's super way more consistently than Guile's. I swear, each time I want to use Guile's super, I end up messing up the command and jumping forward, and more often than not, it ends up losing me the game. :(

Yeah, that may be a better move for me in the end. I do want to get both versions, but Amazon's been pretty reliable when it comes to getting CE's for cheaper a few weeks after release.

I'm facing the same issue with Resident Evil 5... and they haven't even announced any console differences between collector's editions... yet. I'm cringing in anticipation of that announcement.
