I just hate being ass fucked by DLC. I already paid $60 for the game, don't nickel and dime me.
Well I'd rather just pay them $70 and not have to download anything.

You wont have to download anything, all the content is already on the disc.
And this is really meaningless DLC, who cares for alternate costumes, they wont affect how the game is played at all so its just all fan service fluff. If you really want it, buy it, if not then just ignore it like i will be doing.

Well I'd rather just pay them $70 and not have to download anything.
I'd rather them say "Hey, you are supporting our game, here's some cool shit. Thank you." instead of, "Hey you, 60 bucks isn't enough! You are a fan. You want this shit. You pay us and we'll give it to you!!" (pun intended)
I'm all for supporting a company, but I'm getting tired of this. I know "You don't have to buy it." But I'm a fan. I want those costumes. I'm just tired of it.
Sigh, I'll probably end up buying them too.

9.0 for performance. So it's not the best performing stick then.
8.8 for build quality. Not bad for a stick manufactured in a Chinese sweat shop.
9.4 for features. I thought you said this would be the most feature packed stick ever, Markman?
9.8 for ease of use. You mean it doesn't plug itself in?
9.0 for value. So it's a $150 stick that's only worth maybe $135.
9.3 for comfort. Needs some padding for my poor carpal tunnel affected wrists.
9.6 for longevity. It might last long enough.
9.7 overall. Not bad. I might keep my preorder. ;)
In all seriousness, I just love IGN's review numbers. It's like, how do they come up with these numbers? Is there a formula or something? It's just so laughable.
At least it's getting great reviews everywhere.

I was wondering that as well. If it lasts longer than my pets or whatever the stupid line they used was, then why wouldn't it get a 10 for longevity?
They're so ridiculous lol.

Review has unsold me. Stick clearly has issues [-(
Also, I tried the HCB + MP or FP shit, and I turned into evil Ryu and was like "daaaaayyyyuuummmm." That's fuckin' awesome.
It's crazy how mushy the Tekken stick feels, though. It's weird - it's just sorta difficult to tell if I'm hitting a direction or not. I haven't used my modded HRAP 3 that much, but man... it has clearly had an impact on how I view other shit.

Any word on which version of SF IV is superior yet?
I don't think I have $150 to dish out on the Tournament Stick (which I think they're raping us and making it $189.99 here) but I'll probably pick up the less expensive stick.
Gratz MM!

I've used that stick and I don't like it, but it's functional. There's buttons, there's a stick, and I've seen worse. But how into fighting games are you? Like, are you gonna be picking up blaz blue and KOF XII, etc.? If you are, then it might be worth the price for a good piece of hardware, just because if you're playing a lot of fighters, you're gonna start to notice those qualitative differences.

Good games in HD Remix, FGT. Tony Hawk just wasn't cutting it for me today. That, and I still can't figure out how to beat E. Gordo Honda. He just answers everything I have for him, it's so bizarre.
I also heard that Justin Wong, that magnificent bastard, also uses Tony Hawk in HD Remix. He's also (apparently) undefeated. He just can't let me have anything, can he?

So, does everyone here prefer fighting games on the 360? I need to know if I have to put in a preorder for a MadCatz stick. I assume there is no decent PS3 to 360 controller adapter, if one at all.
Also, I've never played Street Fighter 2's. Shame on me!

The online play is always better on the 360, so yeah, that's generally the version people spring for. The PS3 versions also seem to always have minor glitches that the 360 version doesn't. Point is, you're better off just assuming that if it's a fighter, you'll be playing it on 360.

I got into an argument about this on the deals forum about this about a month agoI still hate that asshole I got into it with. I confuse "drivel" with "dribble" and suddenly he's on a high horse?:wall:... Why am I bitching about this here, anyways?:-k. Basically, if you compare the 360 verses the PS3 when it comes to U.S. released, retail fighting games, the 360 wins out because of exclusives like DOA4 & Battle Fantasia, as well as the online updated revision of Virtua Fighter 5. If you're a fan of the fighting genre as a whole and you want to play online, the 360 is king.
Did you guys see where GameStop might be holding SFIV in-store tournaments (http://www.iplaywinner.com/news/2009/1/23/gamestop-win-a-free-street-fighter-iv-cabinet-in-store-tourn.html) where the grand prize winner takes home a SFIV arcade unit? Unless, ya know, your system dies and all your games become coasters. I have many 360 fighters, but dont trust the system worth a damn. PS3 is the way to go. Im on my 4th 360, and on a launch PS3. And SSF2T HD Remix sucks badly on the ps3 due to backbones incompetence, not because of the PS3 itself. I own it for both systems. Im also getting SF4 for both systems. At least i know i'll have one working version at all times.

You know, when I was debating between 360 and ps3 for a next gen console. Usually ps3 would come out on top overall. I mean, isn't the online play generally less expensive in the long run. Sure, you get what you pay for, but I thought online was perfectly fine on ps3, especially for a free service. I too agree that ps3 version of sthd is craptastic due to lack of testing, not the system. Personally though, I prefer playing locally.
edit: That F:UC looks crappy. Looks like they just straight ripped off the doujin game.

QUESTIONS!
For MarkMan! I know you frequent here so I thought I'd ask since you have the inside track on everything.
Those SF4 faceplates - the only one i see shamestop's site showing is this:
http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=73770
Which shows the vertical design, are they just going to come mixed as vertical and horizontal under the same SKU?
The SF4 guide is being done by prima (ugh) but the description claims they are doing it like japanese guides and adding frame data and worked with top players - I still think it'll be shite compared to just reading up on SRK and on boards, but could I be wrong?

There are two SKUs hitting GameStop, not sure why their online preorder has it as one.
But both horizontal and vertical design will be in stores.
Also for the guide, I know the guy who did it personally and have talked to him about it on occasion a few times. I believe it will be a solid guide. There is frame data (same one as the Japanese mook that came out), but the character specific data will only be for the arcade characters. Capcom has not provided frame data for the console exclusive chars.

Well, I hope those Smash Bros vets at least listen to what the community has to say. Brawl was a disappointment to me. Not that it's a bad game, but it certaintly isn't the "best" game.
Game with followings should listen to the community more I think. Look at STHD. Aside from the glitchy online (moreso PS3), it's a stellar game. Definitely one of my favorites this generation even though it's a downloadable game.

Ahhh just another day...
Gaming-Age / NeoGAF just gave impressions of the FightPad...
Just a few quick pics for now, lemme know if anyone has any specific questions and I'll try to fill you in tomorrow after I break it in some more.
The d-pad is about the best I've used on a fighting pad so far, better than Ascii FT pads and Saturn fighting pads IMO. It has a very slight soft rubberized surface as compared to hard plastic. Same for the sides and back. Buttons have great feedback, neither too mushy or too springy, and works great in both thumb and overhand grip orientation. L&R buttons a little stiffer than expected out of the box, but I'm not expecting to use them much. Body of the controller is large, but light. It's definitely high quality.

1) Anyone into the KOF series? SF IV is what is getting me into fighting games and Im curious about the series. I've seen reviews of older games and score are generally mediocre, although I wouldn't trust most reviewers to be good critics of the actual fighting system. Im asking because the new KOF game looks to have very high quality sprites with fluid movement but I don't know anything about the series and have always thought it was a shameless rip-off of Street Fighter.
2) How the fuck can anyone play Guilty Gear? That game looks ridiculously nuts. It is too advance and complicated for me. BlazBlue looks soooo pretty, but I'm afraid it is going to play like Guilty Gear and be overly complicated. Is it?

KOF is definitely not a Street Fighter knockoff, though it arguably started out as one. The new one that looks pretty is KOF XII. That's not out in the US yet. The other games in the series are ugly, but a couple of them are definitely worth your time. Honestly, I think the best option for getting started is by picking up KOF XI. It's an excellent game, it's fast paced and smooth, and it's like $10-15.
Guilty Gear is ridiculously nuts. The thing is, though, you don't need to understand how everything works eventually. Just play it like Street Fighter for a while, and you'll gradually pick up on the numerous intricacies of the game. It's awesome once you get it.

Thanks for the reply. I would definitely try KOF XI, but I don't have a stick for my PS2. Right now I'm using the Hori Ex 2 for my 360 and will be getting the SFIV TE stick for the 360. I'm thinking about getting a Cthulhu board for it in the future for PS3 gaming, but I dont know if that works with the PS2 and KOF XII has to be out by then.
As for the Guilty Gear, it is not that I am worried about GG. I don't see myself playing GG. I want to play BB when it drops in America and I fear I will be playing it like SF while everyone else is playing it like GG and utterly destroying me online.

1) KOF is great. It's all about doing big moves and combos, and picking the most unbalanced characters. You'll probably want to have Iori on your team in any KOF. Track down KOF '98 and play that, or wait for the KOF '98 UM for XBLA or PS2. PS2 version is coming March 3rd according to GS for $20 bucks. Or go track down KOF XI at Best Buy for 10 bucks. If you play XI, pick Oswald though.
2) GG is easy. Pick Sol, run in and press P LS HS HCB+LS, throw QCF+P, QCF+K (tap and hold K versions), QCB+K out a lot, and do a DP+LS or HS when they jump in. Mission Comprete. :)
Joking aside, if you are curious about KOF, start with either '98 or XI, since they will be the cheapest ones to get. '98 is a dream match game with a lot of characters in it. 2002 is also, but it's not as good as '98 IMO. XI is dirt cheap now, and it's really good. So just try them.
And GG is about as complicated as you want it to be. You can just learn some moves and combos and do really well, or try to master FRCs and the other intricate nuances of the game. I'm a pretty barebones GG player myself, and I play Sol and Venom mainly, though I do have a mean Dizzy.
Just give them a shot yourself. That's how I find out if a game is good. :)
Edit : Also what Chac said. ;)

Fei Long for me. I hear Viper uses a lot of mind games, so she may be in there too.
But who am I kidding, I haven't played the game and I've barely even watched videos. I really have no idea what to expect.
Funny faces, focus attacks, Neo-Geegus is the end boss, it's made by Capcom, and I've already spent about $400 on it with the game, 2 TE sticks, and a pad. These are the 5 things I know about SFIV.

Damnit. The price seems good, but I just don't have a stick to play on my PS2 since I have just gotten into fighting games because of SFIV. KOF coming to XBLA sounds interesting though. I'll have to research that.
As for Guilty Gear, I have played it once before when I knew nothing about rudimentary fighting game theory. I gather it is pretty aggressive as it has a meter that punishes over-defending. The cancelling thing is what dizzied me. The game has like 3-4 different methods of cancelling with varying bar consumptions. Methinks you guys are right when you say I shouldn't worry myself about these advance nuances of the game. Oh and I played with that Slayer dude. He looks like a fucking British playboy. Can't wait for BlazBlue. It looks soooo pretty on an HD display.

It wasn't even on the Wii to begin with and Aksys is porting it anyways.
EDIT 2: AND IT HAS A SOUNDTRACK CD PACKED IN!!! WIN, WIN, FUCKING WIN!!!
GAH! I was just coming to post this. I'm so fucking excited words cannot describe. Day fucking one bitches! Anyone else here actually slog through ALL the story paths (fuck you I-No, you crazy way too tough for your own good and if you beat me once I have to start this story path over bitch!). hm, do you guys actually care about the story of your respective fighters? Like as I've found out more of the SF story, I can't help but think "Damn this isn't that great of a story". Of course I blame story continuity as the reason why we can't have SF3 characters in SF4 because SF4 comes first OR SF4 couldn't be placed after SF3 or we wouldn't have all the classic SF characters that were missing from SF3. My friend is big into SF and the story and being reminded that Akuma is strong enough to destroy mountains sours my view when I see Akuma being bitched by Sagat, Boxer, and Blanka. I really don't want story in my fightan.

Streetfighter is more about the characters' personalities. GG actually has a decent story, if only because there's actually dialogue and a specific mode for story in the games.
Its quite fleshed out, albeit as confusing and nonsensical as reading a Robert Jordan novel on acid.

As I understand it, if you agree to fight Akuma like a man, you agree to a deathmatch. Maybe Honda would be smart enough to decline a REAL fight with Akuma, but I do not see people like Sagat, Boxer, Dictator backing down from a real fight. Seeing Akuma playable and losing to these characters is ridiculous in my opinion. If he went all out they would easily be destroyed, yes. But even with him holding back, he has killing intent and he will not be defeat. He will let them land blows, but he WILL kill them. So seeing him going down to a Tiger knee pisses me off.
Let me make it clear that I prefer that characters be as balanced against each other as possible as it makes for a better game and I would certaintly not like to see Akuma being broken like I read he was in Super Turbo. But a part of me gets peeved that canon means nothing to the actual game and thus it shouldn't even be there.
Edit: @BlueSwim: Does that include the 5 bonus DLC alt. costumes that will be coming with the CE edition?
Mr. Beef

Storywise, Shin Akuma is merely Akuma using the full extent of his power, compared to the "in-game" version which is Akuma voluntarily holding back his power to avoid ending fights prematurely.
Good enough for you?

From what I can gather, it's because it splintered the Alpha community too much. If you look at SFIII, each game is a progression but it's different with the Alpha series. Alpha 3 added so much it made some people mad enough to stick with 2.
It's kind of like Gears. Some people are so pissed about the new Matchmaking they went back to the original.
Anytime you splinter a community that's already embraced a radical new change, you better stick with it instead of implementing more radical change within the series.

I always thought it was because of the time period in which it was released. It was right about when arcades were dying, and there wasn't an arcade accurate console version until Alpha Anthology. That's why they phased out Alpha 2 as well.
V-ism is broken at the highest level because there are lots of crouch cancel combos which are like 80 seconds-long infinites.

It's weird. I really love Alpha 3, though I like it for completely different reasons than Alpha 2. It feels like a totally different game, somehow... I mean, you have the same stable of characters and moves for the most part, but the pacing feels totally different.
I find that it plays very differently. There's the introduction of the various ISMs (which completely changes the game) and the fact that the roster is nearly twice the size in the home versions. The animation feels more refined and the stages are more varied. And maybe it's just me, but the game sounds better... more intense.
I really love Alpha 3. It was the first Street Fighter I took seriously.

MvC2 is crazy complex, but it's the most fun I think I've ever had with a fighter, and I've just been playing the computer on the DC version.
Is ryu just a shifty character in ST? I rarely see anyone else playing him.
Ryu is excellent in STHD. He was one of the top characters in regular ST, and they didn't change a whole lot, just giving him a fake fireball to make his traps and baiting better.
I normally don't like charge characters, but guile is always an exception for me.
also, if I knew how to play balrog right I'd play the hell outa him.
Sign onto XBL sometime. I'm no pro, but I could show you a couple of things with ol' Boxer.
PS: Alpha 2 fo' life. More complex =/= better.

I'll try to take my 360 to work this saturday to kill time and play on the projector. I can play you on live then.

I hate charge characters, but I hate them more on the 360's d-pad (which is interestingly enough, the only way I've tried to play charge characters.) I dunno... I just don't understand how you can dish out some shit in response to your opponent's attack unless you've already been charging up, y'know? I don't get it :(
well a couple things...
you don't need charge to do normals... I can jab headbutt if you jump at me sure, but I can also close standing fierce you as far as being responsive goes.
furthermore, playing a charge character, u always get into the habit of charging any time u can. Charge on knockdown, charge on turtle, buffer charge while doing normals or doing other specials, etc.
you have more than special moves when u play games, that's why there are six buttons on the controls. If I am walking up to you it's not coz I wanna do a special on you, it's coz I wanna poke you or throw you or roundhouse u in the face.
it's not about planning ahead, you need to plan ahead no matter who you use

I love charge characters. I love playing Guile or Boxer and always having shit ready to go. You develop a rhythm for it. Plus I love running in after sonic booms.
A2 to me just feel more solid gameplay wise. I hate how Ryu/Ken/Akuma's jumping in roundhouse feels in A3, for example. Though I do love the roster and playing as Karin, it just doesn't feel as solid IMO.
We still need to get a FGT HD Remix room going sometime, but my ghetto internet/router likes to not let me connect to some peeps.

I agree with everything that JEKKI said. Doesn't help that I usually only play Honda, Blanka and Bison in SFHD. Planning ahead is a trait that should be turned on in any fighting game or any competitive game for that matter. You should be constantly adapting and as I once told Mr. Beef.....DON'T BE RANDOM :)
I also agree with JEKKI's point about normals. I have friends that do and don't use normals when playing certain fighting games. Usually separates the ones I think are great from the ones that aren't.
If I know that all a player will do to me if I jump is Shoryu and distance me with a fireball, I can adapt quickly to that. If I know they have those two, plus normal anti-air's, tick throw game, traps, obviously there is more to worry about. Relying too much on specials or setting them up makes you too one dimensional. As JEKKI mentioned with Jab Honda Headbutt being Anti-Air, if that was the only thing a player did a good player would quickly adapt to it and try to bait it.
For instance (CVS2 dork!) Vega's normals are ridiculous. S.HK is a tight anti-air and he has lots of normal pokes like Cr.LP/MP etc. As JEKKI said in this instance some players who don't use their normals much will try to use Vega's back flip as his only anti-air, when he has more than one, the others being a normal.
I don't understand the problem playing charge characters, but then again I've never learned Shoto's correctly. When first playing SFII:WW, I saw Blanka and was hooked. CE came out and added Bison... :)

Bison was such a hoss in CE. 6 hit blocked psycho crushers. :) Glad they toned that down.

whoo! V-13 unlocked in BlazBlue!
also a quick google searched discovered a Pho So 1 less than 4 miles away from Denjin!!
I havent had pho in soooooooooo long... there's a pho place hella close to FFA but it's overpriced and ran by koreans.
but unfortunately, family may interfere with any free time I have this weekend
not family arcade... I mean like a literal family...
anyway! tonite I may jump onto XBLA HD Remix since I never got to play anybody on here except for that one time.
but I may go breakdancing as well, but I'm hella leaning more towards staying home rite now.

Damn! I had thought about submitting multiple PMs, too!
Nah, I'm with the way it is right now. I said what I wanted to say, and most of what I wanted to add on was a lot of fluff.
