Do you guys call them I-S-M's (eye ess em) or ISM's (iz-mm)?Yeah I always thought of them as like religious branches, or philosophical constructs. Pronounced "IZm" just as if you were saying "Buddhism" or "Communism" or what have you.

A-ISM = Alphaism = The way of Street Fighter Alpha! = air blocking, alpha counters, 3-level super meter, etc.
X-ISM = Xism = The way of Super Street Fighter X! (I think that's what they called ST in Japan or something) = normals do higher damage, 1-level super
V-ism = Variable-ism = The way of the Custom/Variable combo! = uses the custom combo's from SFA2, and a few other idiosyncratic differences

Then in CVS 2 they just wanted to spell CAP and SNK so the letter-isms didn't really stand for anything anymore.

Not to beat an old argument to death but we're a far cry from the days when it cost $70 to upgrade from a crappy port of Hyper Fighting to a crappy port of SSF2 (which would promptly be made obsolete by the arcade release of ST).

Plus we get original ST mode, hitbox mode, and I think some sort of tournament mode to play with! Yeah I'd rather it be $10 but $15 is nothing to sniff at IMHO.

Once you get over the balancing issues(nobody can grab him and he's too short for some horizontal strikes to hit), Yoda can be pretty enjoyable. That's not to say I'd spend $5 on him though.

I played the hell out of the Genesis version of MK3 back when it first came out. I actually liked it more than the SNES or Playstation versions because the Genesis 6 button controller crapped all over the regular SNES and PSX pads for fighting games.

Wasn't '98 a dream roster? I believe only 95, 96 and 97 were included in the Orochi saga. Those were the only KoFs where Orochi was the boss, right?

'98 Ultimate Match should come out sometime in the states, hopefully. I'm also waiting for KoF 2002 UM. Looks awesome.

I wish they'd do something awesome though, like draw new sprites, similar to what was done for CvS2.

I also wish they'd release some sort of KoF for DS. A smaller screen would definitely make KoF look awesome. Those super pixelated sprites won't look as pixelated on a tiny screen.

I've watched trailers and gameplay clips from Street Fighter IV before, but something really hit me with that one. Pending a good single player with some VF5-level replayability, it's going to deliver. I really can't wait for SFIV. Yes, in fact there were 2 Samurai Shodown games already in the third dimension. The first one focused more on the orginal characters. I never played it but it didn't look good. The second is a bastard child that should never have existed. The only real returning character was Haohmaru but he was like 50 years old, and didn't play the same. (Hattori Hanzo was also in it but it wasn't the same guy) It was released on the PS1 but since I didn't recognize any characters I quickly dismissed it. The game was pointless.

EDIT - Let me correct myself, there were 3 games. SamSHo 64, Warriors Rage & Warriors Rage II.

I am now in the process of commissioning a stick-maker to mod my old X-arcade into a 2-player stick for the 360! The impending release of SFIV and HD Remix finally convinced me to remedy the pad issue.

Now if you fighter guys can help me... I need to know if there are any fighters that are picky about mapping the triggers and bumpers on the 360 controller. I ask because my layout may end up looking something like this:
(X)(RB)(Y)
(A)(RT)(B)
(LB)(LT)
My rationale for this layout is that I want the top-middle and bottom-middle buttons to both be "block" buttons in UMK3, and since you can't configure the controls in UMK3, I've gotta design the stick around that game.
But then let's say I get Tekken 6. Would I be able to map A, RT, LB, and LT on that stick to the normal attacks? In Virtua Fighter 5, could I use LT, RT, and B? Can I use RB for Strong and RT for Forward in Street Fighter? THESE are the questions I must ask before I proceed with my joystick quest!

Tekken has always let you customize your controls, so that won't be a problem.ahaaa good good. I was pretty sure, but I wanted to make sure that the triggers weren't reserved for combination button presses or something like that.

I've been in a holding pattern of "not playing as much fighting games as I'd like to" for a while now, but getting a working 360 stick should help me out of that rut!

Oh and something I've always wondered... what's the deal with those optical 360-degree sticks? Is there any benefit to using them for fighting games? I always kinda figured that using a 360-degree stick was a bad idea, since most fighters only use 8 directions anyway.

My buddy totally pulverized me like 10-5 in SF2HF yesterday... that was my first time playing a fighter with the 360 controller... it was HORRIBLE. I can't hook up my USB keyboard to the 360 and use that right? I'm used to playing SF on a keyboard.

oh something I just thought of, similar to my other question...
What 360 fighters use the BACK button? I'm wondering if I can afford to leave that out of my custom stick. I figure the Guide Button is a must have... I'll use the "pinball" buttons on either side of the stick for those. But if I must sacrifice a button, which one should it be??
