Got the SF4 Ryu Pad thanks to my buddy who works at best buy at his cost, 26 bucks. Im gonna jump into some SF4 online right now and let you guys know how it is. For the record, i have hori arcade sticks for ps3/360, and i have a 70% win record in SF4 using the standard 360 d-pad which im extremely competent with, so my main concern is doing uppercuts from the right side of the screen (i have issues with the 360 d-pad with this) and to get access to all face buttons.

K, i just played 35 games strait online using the new SF4 pad. I also just got the play 200 matches online achievement as well, yay.

As far as the pad is concerned, i really like it. If i could do anything different with it, id want both shoulder buttons on the right hand side so i can use 3p/3k easier, right now i set it to 3p and mostly use characters whos ultras/supers use punch. The buttons feel good, and the distance is nice enough that i rarely hit multiple buttons together. They arent as noisy as ive heard people complain about, sound fine to me.

The d-pad itself is a nice size, i have rather large zangief-esqe muscle bound hands, so it feels just great for me. As far as grapplers and charge characters, im doing amazing with this pad. I only missed a move 1, maybe 2 times. and could have been due to not charging enough with rog. As far as the shotos, i improved my game quite a bit and can uppercut on both sides now easily, im not 100% on point, but im sure ill get there once i play more. The only issue i have is with Fei Long, i cannot do his flying kick move from the right side of the screen anymore at ALL, i can do it on command from the left side now, which is the exact opposite of how it is for me on the standard xbox 360 d-pad. I'll have to go to practice mode and see whats going on.

Anyhow, i fully endorse this pad, its great for SF4. Im gonna fire up HD Remix in a sec and try it out there, although i really dont like HD Remix as much anymore after playing SF4 for so long, feels so antique and sloppy.

p.s. - One thing i need to know is, is there ANYWAY to get out of abels 4-hit combo where he throws you at the end? The guy i played online used it a lot and i tried everything to stop it but could NEVER get out of it, he was quite good with it as well.

Well, I wouldn't take that as gospel until more news is announced. It sort of makes sense if you really think about it. Why would SNKP be pushing the US port of KOFUM98 if the XBLA was close by?

Also for those of you looking for a PS3 fight pad, it might be YMMV but I spotted two at a Gamestop tonight with a friend of mine.

Speaking of him, I drove him maybe 15 minutes to fix his SFIV pre-order situation and in return he bought me the SFIV guide. Not that I need it (I don't think I've ever bought a guide), but this guide is pretty neat to read/look through. He even offered to buy me the Fightpad, but I told him I'd never use it (3 PSX/PS2 sticks with PS3 converters :))

I've never really ever gotten in to tekken. I think it's because I had 3 when I was in like 3rd grade and my mom used to beat the living shit out of me in it. She wasn't nice about it either, bitch talks mad trash. I'm still excited for 6 for some reason though.

My favorite part of Tekken 3 was getting a free controller from Best Buy with it, some brand that started with an I, not Interact. $40 and a free controller? Deal to me. So I get home, friends and I unlock everyone taking turns. I decide I'm going to try out this new controller after we just unlocked the last character. I plug it in and it kills my PS1 ports. No controllers worked after that.

I stomped the fucking shit out of that piece of shit and the next day we dragged it to school behind my friend's car. I got a new PS1 a week later, and I'm glad I had friends that let me play it at their house. Having Tekken 3 day one and no system to play it on would've sucked ass.

$70 a year just to maintain the card, not to mention the balance that will be left on it (since it's prepaid, you'll pretty much always carry a positive balance on it unless you buy something for exactly the amount on the card. Hmm, maybe the benefits are worth it. I really am a Capcom fanboy.

Mashing usually does mean just hitting buttons, but you can mash out moves like throws. For example, if you are recovering from a move or getting up, you could hold towards and mash on FP and get a throw on a close opponent. Some games reward precise timing over mashing though, and being precise with your throw command and having exact timing will usually beat a throw masher to the throw.

Piano inputs would be when you want a move to come out, say a wake up shoryuken. You would do the motion as you get up and drum your fingers across 2 or more punch buttons, potentially increasing the chance of it coming out. I don't use this technique personally.

To those of you getting the CE, it looks like the soundtrack CD comes with 17 tracks. The guy that already has it on GAF said the track names were not listed.

I'm going to play the movie on one TV, play the CD from the computer, pop a copy of the game into a PS3 and a 360 so I can scrutinize the graphic between the two, and hang the figures from my Madcatz controller so that they swing about and mock fight while I'm playing... all while sitting atop a Tournament Stick.

No, but seriously, I'm probably going to have to play a few rounds at the very least before watching the movie. From what I hear, the movie is just a bunch of the cutscenes strewn together anyway.

Is the game inside the 360 CE sealed and identical to the regular 59.99 game? I'm tempted to pickup the 59.99 version from Gamestop for now, then return the game inside the CE version to Gamestop whenever my CE pre-order comes in. Kinda worried that my blockbuster won't have the CE right away.

I called at 9:30 and arrived at 10:01. Got my copy! Also got a SFIV poster (awesome), a Dead Rising 2 poster (whatever), and a SF coin. The coin is super lame but still probably slightly cooler than that GS headband. The little cardboard thing that comes with the coin is so stupid though. The image of Ryu shooting a hadouken on the inside looks like it was stretched to about twice the original width in Microsoft Paint. The back of is also retarded. It has a 20 year history of SF and says something like this.

p.s. - One thing i need to know is, is there ANYWAY to get out of abels 4-hit combo where he throws you at the end? The guy i played online used it a lot and i tried everything to stop it but could NEVER get out of it, he was quite good with it as well.


4 hits? the rekka only hits thrice, unless he cancels it from like a crouching forward or strong or something...

regardless it is a combo so once you get hit once, you keep getting hit. just figure out how to block it, the first hit is mid, but depending on his next input the second hit can either be low or an overhead, so a lot of ppl get hit by it coz theyre always blocking low.

but if u go for a low attack instead of the overhead, it does not combo, or at least I think it does not... you can recover from blockstun before the next hit comes

The PS3 CE is a much lower run than the 360 from what I can tell. Several of the places I asked said that their allocation of PS3CE's were significantly smaller than their 360s.

BUT, I picked up both today and I'm so so happy. Got to play a bunch at the Gamestop. They set it up on the 360 (why they didn't on the PS3 with a better controller is beyond me).

I love fighting games, but mainly the faster based combo heavy ones. (Favorite 2D fighters include: Nightwarriors, Marvel Super Heroes, MVC2, JoJo's, Guilty Gear etc.) I've never been able to get into KoF (XI was fun for a short while, but idk what it was, it just never clicked), SFIII or Alpha (though Alpha 3 gave me some good times, it was never a mainstay). Now, I played Turbo back in the day religiously, but even HD remix was just too old school for my post MvC2/GG days.

Now my question: Is SFIV right for me? From the vids, it looks much faster than the older SF games, but most of the vids I've seen are either high level play or super combo compilations, so they may be skewed. Looks like a ton of fun, but I'm not sure it's right for my style of fighters.

Word to the wise: If you're planning on unlocking all characters in a timely manner, it's a good idea to turn off the open challenge option during arcade mode. I got challenged no less than 10 times all with my first 3 matches.

I did wipe the floor with all the people whose challenge I accepted. So far I have a perfect match record on Live.

and unrelated to your second question, but is it just me, or is E. Honda the most unbalanced fighter in the game? His throws do more damage than they should, IMO. His moves have far less of a delay between them than a fireball or sonic boom. It's quite annoying.

Oh...and Seth blows. Really doesn't fit in the SF universe at all. They might as well have made Skull-o-mania the boss...

And one other thing...I played against a guy tonight that used Sagat, and the dude spammed tiger balls so much that I thought it was the old SFII:T arcade demo just whipping them out one after another - hi, low, hi, low...anyone else remember that loop that would run on the machine if no one was playing? and unrelated to your second question, but is it just me, or is E. Honda the most unbalanced fighter in the game? His throws do more damage than they should, IMO. His moves have far less of a delay between them than a fireball or sonic boom. It's quite annoying.
I can totally agree with you in regards to STHDR. E. Honda is a masher's paradise and his ridiculous invincible properties on his headbutt don't help much either. Stored Ochio is bullshit too, especially when I play Bison who pretty much is totally shutdown.

I was playing at my friend's house today and beat the game with Gief, Abel, and EL Fuerte. I played a bunch of people on my way to beating them and lost once to someone spamming Tiger Knees as I was trying to mess around with Fuerte. I got a few rage quits as people just don't understand you can't let Gief get close.

Asianxcore, you should have the advantage against Shotos if you make them come to you. With the roll and command throw priority, you can punish all their mistakes. Also the heel kick should go over fireballs to make up some distance.

u can always go to shoryuken.com, but even so it's hard to understand since when they discuss strategy they take a lot of beginner info as granted.

like I said, first just play the game and get comfortable,

but also stick around this thread. We've discussed and still discuss a shyt load of STHD info, and since we're all playing SFIV in addition to all being very new to the game u can expect a lot of strats discussion in addition to lots of smack talk

Oh i got a weird question. Maybe markman or anyone else with an early CE can answer.

Is the game inside the 360 CE sealed and identical to the regular 59.99 game? I'm tempted to pickup the 59.99 version from Gamestop for now, then return the game inside the CE version to Gamestop whenever my CE pre-order comes in. Kinda worried that my blockbuster won't have the CE right away.

Hmm...hopefully the CE game doesn't have a 'Not for Resale' tag on the barcode.

Also, my GC didn't get a single CE version today, and I had the PS3 version preordered. They said hopefully no later than Friday. So I did by a standard edition 360 version tho. Played a few online matches...I'm like 4-for-7 right now. Gotta get the timing down cause my muscle memory is still on SF2THDR time. So I'm gonna be spending the next few days in training, trial and arcade mode (to unlock everyone).

I'm taking a break from studying for a big Anatomy and Phys test tomorrow, but I might just half ass it and play some more SF4 until like 2 am PST, cause my class starts at 11 anywayz.

This game completes me.8-)

Abel was who I played consistantly for the entire time I played SFIV at SJSU. I don't think I'll put as much time into anyone else. Who knows though.

6 hours later, this shit is amazing. I'm just starting to scratch the surface after getting used to how the game feels. Played some people online...you can win with all focus attacks against a lot of people :lol: Gotta love the launch day of a new fighter.

but it's like Capcom didn't share any STHD info for the guys who made SFIV. No double blind picking, no viewing matches, Fei Long's chicken wing is back the original input...which forces my hand to get the HRAP now.
