you can dash cancel his standing forward kick, into a close crouching fierce... to do the dash cancel I would input towards + MK, towards. Guilty Gear style executions.

or when you get more advanced, you can focus dash cancel the first his of his qcf+P move into a close crouching fierce.

his jumping forward kick is REAL good too for jumping in and I *think* it crosses up.

crouching forward, crouching strong, and standing fierce can all cancel into his qcf+P as well.

You can unlock colors in Survival and Time Attack.

been playing a lot of SFIV and unlocked Gouken. Is it me, or is he a little dispointing to use? I was expecting a more offensive minded character, I guess he balances out Akuma. I also think this game has the best Akuma handling so far, I like how his crouch heavy kick is the 3rd Strike move.

seth is hard on easiest? i don't even remember what the fight was like because it was so short

the more i play this game, the more frustrating it is, close range jumping games are retarded, backwards jumping is retardedly safe, hell, it seems like almost every move is safe and it makes the game boring.

why they took away sakura's crossup, i have no idea. also, c.lk - c.lp - c.mk xx EX Tatsu - DP+K 3x does 2 more damage than c.hp xx EX Tatsu - DP+K. and you can combo ultra off of EX tatsu, you just have to dash after it connects. not even FADC, just dash

Cross ups aren't even that good in SFIV, Gief can SPD out of everything.

GGS asianx... I suck, but you are right in having the upper hand: practice before release + stick beats my d-pad...

the thing that fucks me up are the jump ins (someone stated this a few pages back) where the direction change of sides feels more wonky than normal 2d based games... >_<

My dan wasn't doing his best, but I've barely had enough time to practice with him and know his move properties.



Side Note:

I know everyone will skip over this due the the loads of SFIV play but I have all the film shot for the BlueSwim and Mr.Beef/Jimbo Slice commercials done. I'm editing and animating them both tomorrow and maybe saturday.

keep playing instead of doing school work, broke the win 10 ranked games in a row achievement. Its going to stink when the learning curve catches up. This game is like crack.

Akuma and Gouken were easy to unlock once I knew the rules (gamefaqs was wrong when I checked). I dont think you can lose a round and that you have to beat the game with Akuma before you can unlock Gouken (you can fight him, just can't unlock him). BTW, Akuma owns in this game, used him a few times and was the easiest to pick up and play. Feels like a powered up 3rd Strike Akuma and his low heavy sweep is the 3rd strike iteration which makes it easier for me to use for range then Ryu/Ken/Gouken version.

I think you're supposed to complete arcade mode with all six unlockable characters with at least one perfect match and no continues. Then after you beat Seth, Akuma should appear for you to beat and unlock.

Same here! Gave my Dictator quite the work out last night and I'm feeling goooood. I got to 100 ranked matches last night and I'm standing at 67% (67 wins, 33 losses). I was punishing the Shotos so hard I started taunting!:lol:

Best time was fighting an Akuma. You know when their trying to get off Akuma's Ultra, but the timing is off? I call it doing the "Ultra Dance", cause he's in the corner doing 2 standing jabs and shuffling his feet.;)

So anyhoo, we both have an ultra stored, and I just landed a headstomp and retreated back to my corner. So I'm crouched there, and he starts doing "The Ultra Dance". After the 3rd time, I did Bison's taunt, which is hilarious because you see Akuma dancing and Bison in the other corner laughing his ass off.

So, I let him work it out, and he gets it on like the 7th try. As he floats towards me, I teleport right behind him and get off my Ultra.

Now THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT!:lol::applause::bouncy:

Hey guys you know what I was thinking about today. I think they should have made SFIV a 4-button game instead of a 6-button game. Now, I know this sounds ridiculous, but hear me out.

Now, let's face it. A good percentage of people that buy this game are not going to buy fighter-specific controllers. Let's say more than 50% won't. So, this effectively makes SFIV on standard controllers an 8-button game, since it's impossible to hit all 3 punches or kicks at the same time. Now, think about what it would be like if there were no middle punches/kicks. Not only would the controller work 100x better for the game, but it would make it much more conveniently to only use the 4-buttons, and not have to map an extra 2 for Px2 and Kx2. Obviously, the combos would have be reworked, but I think it would reach a much wider potential audience, including all the kids that grew up without SF.

Anyone else find it next to impossible to beat a Zangief that is competent at doing the SPD while playing online? I think the slight differential in timing that is a result of playing online makes it like border-line impossible to get away from most SPDs. Really annoying, bye bye 11-win streak in ranked :cry:

Hey guys you know what I was thinking about today. I think they should have made SFIV a 4-button game instead of a 6-button game. Now, I know this sounds ridiculous, but hear me out.

Now, let's face it. A good percentage of people that buy this game are not going to buy fighter-specific controllers. Let's say more than 50% won't. So, this effectively makes SFIV on standard controllers an 8-button game, since it's impossible to hit all 3 punches or kicks at the same time. Now, think about what it would be like if there were no middle punches/kicks. Not only would the controller work 100x better for the game, but it would make it much more conveniently to only use the 4-buttons, and not have to map an extra 2 for Px2 and Kx2. Oh man, this is gonna piss you off, I defeated him on my first try today with Ken. First form is easy as you mentioned, the second I never got close enough for him to grapple me and I never jumped unless he did his ultra. The Hurricane Kick served me well though and his own stupid ass teleporting right in front of me begging for a shoryuken.

K... I realized why I sucked with dan... I used HK jump ins too much.

I'm slightly thrown off by some moves since the 2D games had less frames of animation, while the HK in SFIV takes longer. MK is my friend.

I got there at like 6pm, talked to a couple doods, left for a bit to grab sum grub.

came back like half hour later and saw sum random dood and I was like "awww wtf GOOTECKS?!?!?!?!"

yes, the best SFIV player in fuckin america was there, and thus my chance to win was gone lol. Talked to him a bit, said he found out about the tournament randomly and for $500 decided to drive 2 hours, and another dood from AI also showed up too. crazy, but he got peaced out halfway lol.

so after Ryan won the tournament (obviously) he told everybody about how he's the best SFIV player and how he also won last night at the Citywalk event and ppl there were starstruck!! lol, he gave so many autographs that the store wants to display, of course along with his picture that goes up on a wall that has all tournament winners on it. He autographed a couple posters for the store, in addition to a copy of the game... and other ppl wanted him to autograph stuff too. It's pretty crazy.

I kept watching him play thinking like he's an obstacle for me to win, I still wanted to win and began strategizing on what I can and cannot do. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to play him.

I got to the semi-finals and lost to the person who got 2nd obviously (and won an SE stick). He was actually a player from FFA who has a real nice Bison.

my thing is, I believe I have done a real good job learning my character (Blanka) in 2 days. I play him well and know sum good tricks, but I lost becoz I didnt understand the matchup. I kept watching Ryan and trying to figure out how to beat him, but when I had to fight a real good Bison I hella lost.

I always try to bait anti-air, but he never jumped, NEVER!! Every time he hit the air it was him doing his special stomp or whatever. I jumped on the opportunity to AA him, but he jus did the weird Bison aur turnaround thing and got me!! He also neutralized all my electric traps!! He got out of them with normals into combos!! Crazyness... I lost both rounds to him.

tho I say, I'm glad that up until that point I never lost a single round. All my matches went 2-0, and also it was single elim one match japanese style tournament.

so at the end of the day, the turnout was INSANE! so fukkyn crowded, I didnt get into my first match until 10PM. Overall tho, only about 5 competent players. Gootecks, FFA Bison (Kris), myself, another Rog, and one dood who had a pretty good concept of Abel.

regardless, even at low level play you can definitely appreciate what SFIV is doing. While the players arent doing crazy shyt, theyre still fighting with a sense of tension down to the wire that still make the game seem very exciting.

so all in all, good times. I came home with nothing but a poster... which unfortunately does not have an autograph on it lol.

Okay, the tallest guy in the pic in the white shirt was in the finals...he took 2nd, and "RuiN" isn't in this pic. Tall dude name is Wes. He plays a mean Chun-Li. The last guy in the frame on the far right goes by "Ken Chaos"...his Bison made it to the semis. Real nice Bison. Dude in the red with his arms crossed on the left was a member of the Sagat Coalition, and he also made semis. All of those dudes roll together, and are quite arrogant. But, they are good, so I guess they can be. Must be nice to have a crew of crazy good players to spar against every day.


I wish I was 19 again and had the time to put in that work. I'm basically surviving off of muscle memory that dates back to '91. Getting older sucks, with the lack of time, kids, work, school, and unexpected health problems.

All in all it was a nice turnout. Some shit talking, but that comes with the territory. It was just really nostalgic for me because this is the closest I've been to a genuine arcade vibe in years. Matching up against strangers face to face is a primal thrill that never gets old.

Chun actually has good AA options, they're just very dependent on you seeing the opponent's move coming ahead of time. Not like a DP or flame kick where you can wait for them to land. You need to use the double FP in the middle of their jump or make them land on a Kikouken.

I love double FP midair, 3x heel stomp. Also meaty air double FP into back MK, MK, d/u MK - EX SBK combo. That's fun.

Just out of curiosity what's everyone's playtime on SF4? I've only finished arcade mode with a few peeps and I'm already at 14 hours on my profile. That's not including the 3 hours I played on my roomate's box (because he just got a 40' 1080p set) on launch day.

Analog stick is like using a really small arcade stick. :)

Triggers is easier to hit for doing ultras and fierces, fingers don't slip.

I went to the tournament today. I made it to the quarter finals and lost to one of the 59362957384 Kens that were there. It was sad seeing how many scrubby players came out for this. he tournament was nothing but Shotos and Sagats, with 2 Guiles (me being one) a Zangief (which I beat in the first round) and a Balrog (who was very good actually).

I think I would have had a decent shot at winning if they let us reconfigure the buttons.

fukk man... I jus played for like 4 hours straight...

coz my parents are having a party and I had to entertain random children, so I jus played SFIV with them.

I did like 100+ matches all on a pad coz if I used stick it woulda been a lot more unfair lol.

I'm pretty bad at SFIV. It's not that I can't do moves. I'm working on the hard trials and having almost no problems. It's just that this game feels weird compared to ST/3S. Lots of safe moves. It doesn't feel as solid IMO. Still having fun though.

I just spent 6 hours practicing my Sagat online.

Racked up a bunch of wins. Sagat is probably my main over Sakura now.
I broke my previous ranked match win streak of 12, to 15.

I feel like I'm getting better and better at SFIV, but I'm not sure what else there is to do to get better.

I guess just keep playing. Practice makes perfect.

Because sometimes doing a move at the wrong time can screw you. There's plenty of times where I wish I hadn't thrown out a Tiger Knee or Tiger Uppercut. If it's blocked, you're wide open for attack.

It gives you a way to safely execute an ultra, albeit for less damage.

If you're playing against someone good, they're not go leave you any openings to throw an ultra out without linking it from a fadc.

Its the only way for a lot of characters to ultra from anything.

Dan's not a shoto since his moves differ greatly from shotos. fireball is limited, his QCB is entirely different on ground and air... his koryuken use to be different in the 2d versions but I don't know if it is in SFIV... in 2D it would randomly be unblockable.

if sagat is considered a shoto then dan would be.

I can't decide who I should learn as my non shoto. I like viper, but her shit is so technical. Some of the combos and things you have to learn as her are just insanely hard. You need superhuman reflexes for that shit. I also like Balrog, but that $$$$a is heavy and I suck with charge characters. I also really like abel.

What do you guys think?

I'm really mad. My fightpad just won't recognize QCF while my character's facing the right side anymore. No matter how hard I try, no matter how many times I do it, it always recognizes it as FDF (Forward, Down, Forward). And because MadCatz underproduced the darn thing, I can't go out and get a replacement.
