I just got an arcade stick and I am absolutely terrible with it. I am having the most trouble with just holding the stick. I can't find a comfortable position. Anyone got an tips? I have never really tried to use a stick before.

you psyche them out by highlighting Seth during the whole countdown, then choose Ryu. If it's a noob playing Akuma and you're playing as anyone but Akuma, you can humiliate them by doing the raging demon motion while they struggle to do it.

Set it on a table or else it'll fly all over the place. Not even worth owning it if you aren't going to have it on a surface that keeps the base from moving around.

I know you all said the EX2 sucks.. well, I was playing with it.. and at first I couldn't even do a fb no matter how hard I tried. By the end of tonight not only was I doing fb's, fb supers, and fb ultras, but I actually did Zangief's ultra a couple times. My moves are actually coming out for once! Can't wait till I get my TE stick!

yeah. the double blind pick in HDR was probably the best new innovation in online fighting since lobbies in DoA. Considering it already takes a full minute to find a match, then another full minute to get into one that doesn't say "Unable to Play" or "Full room," then another minute to pick characters cause everyone thinks they'll have some edge by knowing who you pick....those extra seconds would've been appreciated.

My favorite is when they hover back and forth between Ken and Ryu...then inevitably pick Ken. "Hmmm...should I pick Ken? welll, maybe I should change things up a bit and choose Ryu....nah, better play it safe and go with Ken."

I finally gave up... becoz I had that matchmaking option turned on...

and everytime I got halfway thru a round it'd be like "A new challenger!!"

I finally... FINALLY... got to Seth and I jus couldnt beat him... I never made it to the end of the round coz of the matchup option!!

I finally got frustrated and turned off the system...

lol next time I'll turn that option off.

I got hella wins online tho... but that's not what I wanted :cry:

I find it hilarious when I'm matched up against an Akuma player whose entire strategy revolves around the Shun Goku Satsu. And you see them standing there, jabbing like a fiend, trying to execute it.

I received my second fightpad from Amazon today and I've come to the realization that most people who don't like the fightpad D-pad probably have defective controllers. My first pad works beautifully and I have no problems with corners or executing ANY move at all. It's incredibly responsive. I've gone as far as to say it's the best d-pad I've ever used. I've used it for at least 10 hours and it's still going strong.

Then I start using this second control pad. It has deep scratches on it, out of the box, the d-pad clicks every now and again, and doesn't register corners like I know it should. After all, I have the first one as a reference point. Then, while I'm playing SF2T on my computer, the d-pad gets stuck, registering a LEFT direction when it's in neutral. It did this twice over the span of 30 minutes or so. Then I tested it with Windows Gamepad Properties. I hit all the directions and this time it got stuck on the UP command.

So, I know Madcatz has made statements about the SE stick, but what about the fightpads? Has Madcatz recognized the Quality Control issues with those? I just hate to see such a brilliant design go to waste and have everyone think it's shit just because those China factories were sloppy. And perhaps most importantly (for me :D), will Madcatz take care of me if I call with issues about the Fightpad?

Yes, if people did not install on the hard drive, the load times when battling someone are super long.

My TE stick is feeling a little funny. Diagonally down-right is sort of... off. I was trying to explain it to Chacrana, but I couldn't really do it. It's not necessarily sticky, but the stick gets a little rough or something when it hits the corner. It doesn't slide smoothly.

Anecdotal evidence: If you play a game where, when you hold in down-left or down-right, something repeatedly happens (character walks, menu scrolls etc...) it stops performing the action after about 2 seconds on down-right, but works forever in down-left. Very bizarre.

Dunno what I can do to fix it, so I'm just looking for some advice instead of bitching up a storm.

That's really odd, but thanks for the test. I'll try that the next time I get a chance with my TE stick. It really is sort of a pain to worry about the thing's functionality. I hate Madcatz QC. :cry:

Go watch Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie. Some of the most meticulously choreographed fight scenes in all of anime... ChunLi vs. Vega is referenced as one of the best fight scenes of all time.

I just set it to 1 round ranked. When I started a room, I'd always get challenged by someone good. Then I figured people like me would prey on rooms, rather than start them.

Apart from that, though, I grabbed that long-neglected Japanese copy of Garou: Battle Archives 2 off the shelf and played some Real Bout 2. It really is an awesome game. I noticed that I can opt to use the arranged soundtracks for the games, which is cool because there's some really good music in there.

I'm sad... I just tried to get the beat Gouken on hardest achievement. I had 2 perfects, 5 ultras, and probably mostly first hits.. then I lost to Seth 3 times before I beat him. :(

After that video MM, I think I'm finally hyped on BR.

The juggles are a far departure from TTT / T5's more floaty juggles, but it looks interesting how most of them are low to the ground (kinda reminds me of VF.)

Overall, I'm impressed. I still wish that Lars had non-Final Fantasy hair though :cry:

Im tired of playing SF4 online in a player match, winning the first 1-2 games and then the person quits immediately. How do you get better if you dont face people better then you? Man, i just want to play someone a ton of games in a row to get that 500 games played online achievment at this point. Im at 328 games played online, 232 wins, 72% win rate. But if people keep quiting after 1-2 matches of losing, its going to take me an eternity with the crappy cannot join crap that happens so often.

Create a room in ranked and wait a few seconds, sometimes people join almost instantly. I've fought some awesome players that way.

Via SRK members who post on SNKP's boards, word is one of the mods said KOFUM for 360 is delayed until 2010.

Also business wise, why even bother putting it out on PS2 of all systems if an XBL release is on it's way months later? Shit doesn't make sense.

I'll support the PS2 release if SNKP didn't fuck up the translation over again.

So my tourny had 16 people, 3 Blankas, about 5 Ryus, 2 Sagats, a Viper, a Chun, a Dhalsim, a Zangief, a Ken, a Vega, and.... that's it I guess. I was paying attention. About half used the d-pad and half used the analog stick. We had to use default controls which is lame cuz I wasn't used to them. Every time I tried to taunt, a focus attack came out. Every time I tried to Ultra, my HP Blanka Ball would come out haha. I fought the Dhalsim in the quarter-finals. It went 3-0 with the last round being a perfect. He left immediately out of shame. My semi-final was a Blanka. He wasn't bad.. knew some combos and stuff, but I think I knew the dynamics of the character in general better. My final match was a Chun who was pretty good. It was 3-2 and down to the wire. He knew all types of combos and crazy shit but my mind games were better. I kept him guessing and never let him feel safe. He was kind of upset when he lost I think. He was telling me how much he posts at SRK and how awesome his custom stick is... I didn't use any Ultras or focus attacks against him.. meanwhile he hit me with about 5 Ultras and a few focus attacks. He didn't even want his $15 gift card cuz he "doesn't buy games", so I got his $15 gift card in addition to my $20 gift card. They didn't have any SFIV pads to give away so he said he'll call me as soon as they get them in. It was a lot of fun! People were making fun of me because I was nervous and jittery while playing... the next round is regionals and it looks like the winners from MD-PA-VA-WV will be there. I can't wait! :D

Oh yeah.. forgot to mention that while others were playing I watched some crackhead get escorted by security cuz apparently he goes around to every Baltimore GameStop and steals DualShocks...

You don't have to worry about throws too much asides from getting out of tick throws. If you get thrown on a wiff they could have done much better in all likelyness.

Just be aware that people have throw patterns, a common one I see is jump in fierce, walk up, throw. These seem hard to get out of at first but if you keep an eye out they're really easy to recognize.

A common one I use alot is cross up, cr lk, walk up (split second) throw. All of these are techable, and easy to spot once you get the hang of it. I think ken's kara throw isn't techable or something, or at least its way harder to get out of because of its range and the mixup possibilities he has with it. (He can throw you after three light attacks or a single medium one without having to walk)

I was just discussing some of your points with some players last night at a Game Crazy. How in SF4, less is definitely more. It's like they put the ultras and supers in just to hook the short attention span new jacks, but really SF4 is all about mind games and tick throws. Seriously.

The better you are at not telegraphing your moves, using the same combos over and over, and being able to adapt and overcome your opponents psychie....the better you are.8-)

For throws, at least in my case, just train youself to throw whenever they are in range. Basically, whenever they are right next to you, press LP+LK.

But if they are mixing up ticks and lows, that'd be the only time you'd have to start guessing throw or not.

i'm sitting at around 2500-2800 BP. there are hardly any kens, i actually get a good variety of players although i'd say around 30-40% are sagats and maybe 20% ryus.

gief is giving me a lot of trouble. it seems like i have no option after green hand? it seems like a forced 50-50 of either throw or sweep. not only that but he takes so little damage, my j.hk - c.hp - EX tatsu - sakura otoshi doesn't even do as much as his jump splash into sweep so i can't make a single mistake.

the other guy who i'm weak against is bison. it seems like bison can camp all day and do fake headstomps. if i walk forward he does scissors kicks and then it seems like he has initiative to mixup or head stomp runaway.

You don't have to standing block. You can low block a Shoryuken too. Any block animation at all will not allow a Shoryuken to go through unless you press something midway. Maybe you're getting combod from a jumpin attack.

I'd imagine it would have to have GGPO. The reason it wasn't used in SF4 was a processing constraint because the game had a lot more visual overhead than HDR did, and MvC2 can't be very taxing on modern systems.

I wouldnt since its not skill based really, and its mostly guns used. Same reason why i dont consider the smash bros series fighting games, they're not what i would deem a fighter in the vain of SF2, KI, MK, VF, Tekken, etc.

I don't consider it a true/traditional fighting game. But it does hold the same competitive nature. I'd classify it as a mech fighting game. Unfortunately we don't have many of them in the US, but there are tons of them in Japan.

btw, fought a bunch of matches tonight, and ended up playing against some guy for like 12+ matches named JOHNCHO and we had some great matches. We both stuck to our mains for the most part, his Sagat (which i rarely fight online) against my Fei Long. I learned a lot about whats safe, what ticks are good, and overall just a great time. I ended up winning the majority of the matches once i figured out what was safe to use against him. I need to play better people who will beat me into submission so i can learn from it! Just 360 for now, i have my 60 gig ps3 on ebay so i can get a cheaper, cooler running ps3 since 60 gigs fetch a premium and im done playing all my ps2 games.

Also, just passed the 400 games online mark! Got a bunch of great games in, and having a blast playing Ranked matches. I beat every single person i played in ranked cept 1, and he had over 2800BP. The rest had WAY more then me (i only had 600 when i started) and im at over 1200 or so now.

Sure alright.

Use ball when opponent is waking up to cross them up (don't do this too late as you will get anti-air'd). Use electricity after ball if your crossup ball misses. Use b, f + k ball as a cross up. Use d, u + k ball as an anti-air, but not a wakeup anti-air (actually, this isn't always true but it'll take you a while to learn when you can and can't use wakeup d, u + k ball). Use b (or f) + mp as an overhead.

Uh... what else.... learn your electricity range. You can be jabbed, lk'd, mk'd, and thrown out of electricity. The most important thing is to constantly keep the pressure on, BE AGGRESSIVE, BE BE AGGRESSIVE. Not all charge characters are turtlers. Keep your opponent guessing and learn how to manuvuer around the screen effectively.

I find good opponents when I actually search for same skill or more skilled... although usually it's the same 3 guys. I still get caught by a lot of scrubby stuff but overall it's pretty decent.

Stop being overly dramatic. Shit you are doing is no better than what some of the people over at SRK are doing.

All of us who have been in the FG scene for a while know exactly what is and isn't hurting the FG scene is a whole. It isn't a secret and everyone knows what needs to be done to further it.

No need to link people to that board for all the drama there. Let them do their thing, let us do ours. I post frequently both on CAG and SRK, I like both.

Again, as friendly as we are here, I have had many times where I have tried to teach players who are new to competitive FG and are genuinely willing to learn. What they aren't willing to learn most of the time is patience and the ability to take losses on the chin.

SRK players have a reason to have that sort of attitudes over there, the forum was originally started as a forum for hardcore and high level fighting game players. You have to understand how frustrating it is to some of them over there to want to talk about high level techs and have to stop to tell someone how to do a fireball or how to block. Sure, we were all scrubs sometimes, but the "master" doesn't ALWAYS have to stop and teach does he/she?

the rules would be
1) u can use any character any round
2) ONE best of 5 match, 90 seconds
3) if there are more then 32 people we would do pre-lim matches to get into the
official bracket those would be held a day before
4) there would be a time limit of when u had to have ur match played.
5) if someone doesnt show and doesnt post in the thread, the person who did post advances
6) if u forfeit or cannot make it PM me
i was thinking a 2 day tourney of a 32 person bracket.
day 1 will be the first two rounds( this will take longer as i would have to communicate with 32 people at once or 64 for both consoles)
day 2 would be the elite 8, final four, then finals

seeding would be based off the tournament zerotypex is currently hosting.
and the rest would be random draw

a few questions
1) what application do u guys use to generate brackets?
2) anyone willing to donate prizes?
3) what chat room site should we use?

the reason i opted for a 2 day tourney is just for convenience for CAGers, since i know random crap turns up daily

K well I aint no scrub but that's how I was greeted when I first started posting. It's just absurd how they assume that they're automatically competent just because they're members of the SRK community. I don't know if you've read the thread that I'm talking about.. but it was really ridiculous the responses that I got.

Your posts #120 and #124 wasn't needed at all and started the shit storm. If they are going to be jerks, just let them be jerks. You said yourself you already knew most of the people on SRK were that way but still you wanted to point it out to them. From that post on you could tell the rest of the guys wanted to see how far they could push you and you fed the trolls.

Hell, a little while ago I won a CVS2 match with most of my crew watching against a friend of mine. It was so close that when I finally won, I climbed up on the machine. Sure to anyone who didn't know me I was cocky, ridiculous and lame, but to my friends watching they knew me and they knew that wasn't how I was. Shit, most of my friends I do play FG games against, there is constant shit talking but it's all in good fun. Just ask Mr. Beef who has played me in person, we talked up a storm of shit when we played CVS2, but we laughed because of it. I'd rather have fools be super cocky around tournament time instead of a bunch of mopers who think they will get mopped up first match. Why not get hyped?

Hell in the case that those guys are just cocky around tournament time, it just not a good idea to throw rocks around your own scene. These are guys that could potentially be people you could play against at house gatherings, ranbats, other tourneys, making friends is obviously something SRK is about as well as CAG. I've met a lot of new people through SRK that have been nothing but nice to me and informative while we were playing, even if they didn't have to.

Whatever, I'm done with this whole CAG is better than SRK or SRK is better than CAG bullshit. I like both forums but I can't stand when people think they are too good for either of the boards.

just do back+roundhouse all day for anti-air, and a lot of standing and jumping fierce and strong.

ummm... after a focus attack you can dash in, back-fierce, then cancel into yoga flame on the first hit.

also teleport behind your opponent a lot I guess? I donno, everytime I try to do it I jus get hit lol... but to do it u gotta "tiger knee" the motion so you actually execute the teleport off the ground, thus you can pull off a move (such as jumping fierce) upon recovery. Technically you can do a yoga fire and teleport behind thus trapping your opponent, but I have yet to figure out a way to effectively do it.

also save your super meter!! His super move is real good and he doesnt benefit much from EX attacks. You definitely want to use his super in combos for good damage. You can do like Yoga Fire, teleport behind and air fierce punch, then into his super assuming both the fireball and the fierce punch hit.

lastly never use his aerial dive moves. They suck, seriously.

that's all I can tell u as far as my experience trying to use him goes... definitely watch youtube and check the 1up guide for more assistance.

Thanks man. I've already got a couple parts of this down pat, such as doing the instant air teleports and spamming fierce / strong punch. He's also the only character that I really use his super.

Good looks on the B+Fierce into Yoga Flame though, woulda never figured that out.

I mixed it up with a good 'simmer last night with my Bison. It was both fun AND funny, 'cause as soon as he started teleporting around, I adjusted my tactics on the fly and was like, "Oh snaps! I can teleport too!". It was probably the weirdest match I have ever played in my life...like a fighting game version from that scene in Jumper when those dudes were fighting over the detonator or whatever. Ridiculous.:lol:
