I feel you man. I just hopped online in SF4 and i havent been playing for a good while, so im a bit rusty, but i faced like 10 different sagats in a row who all did the same crap, and it was getting flipping annoying. What pisses me off is i do fei longs crossover, fierce into fire kick and it takes off less then 10% of their life!! But if i whiff the kick, they tiger knee me for 30% of my life EVERY SINGLE TIME!!

I had that happen so many times i just turned off the system in fury. They need to nerf the living crap out of sagat.

yeah some moves feel like damage needs to be fixed, but I'll probably be bitched at by Ken players...

I say bump up Dan's damage and that's it :lol:


I learned over the past week Dan's jump taunt is actually helpfull: if you do his taunt right when you jump, it basically changes the jump into a high jump. I've gotten over some FP Shoryukens this way.

Everything was fine til' that last match, I turned on the turbo on my stick and didn't know how to turn it off, then the online went wonky and voila, chaos.

I was trippin' out though when you dizzied me with just two hits from Gief, I was all like wtf? o_O

For some reason I could not block El Fuerte's attack jumping off the wall, I think I held back but it never blocked, so that got annoying too :/

so when im watching rog matches and like the rog player jumps in and HP and lp lp and all that gets blocked, why does most of the time the rog player backs off instead of keeps trying to attack?

They're not backing off... most of the time in that instance where it looks like he's backdashing, it's cuz of either a broken throw, or he doesn't wanna get owned trying to string together.

Also backdash can bait out some opportunities to hit em hard.

Play Viper's normal trials, it will all be explained there :D

But yea, it's one of the features for Viper's move. The thing about her is...she's technical, and freakin' hard to get down proper.

on the note of online: fuck you. I come home relaxed after a good day, hop online to play some SFIV, and I can't win any full matches and now it's made me super stressed.

I know I'm playing Dan and I'm not the world's greatest SF player out there, but I work out my shit and know I put more of an effort than most of my opponents.

I think half of it is that I've never been too comfortable with the SF fighting system. Tekken is like butter to me while SF is like butter but the type you need to let sit at room temperature before using.

as far as how to rush him down, I dont know, I do not play Dan. I'm only letting you know what the top players are saying about him. But regardless if you're having trouble with him, it just means that there's so much you don't know and you should put the effort into discovering.

his short dan kick is a good frame trap too, since it doesn't combo from a cr mk. So either it will land after a blocked cr mk or you can throw right after they block it.

thx... I've learned that i mostly need to just fuck with opponent's minds and that the kick special is his best tool. If I need to close distance and I have no fear of projectiles, I do a HK special to get in... if it's blocked it usually turns into a free throw for me. I need to play around more with his LK version to be safer.

I'll be putting more time into Dan definitly, though I feel I need more time practicing and researching.

The mind games come in when you can factor in all that.

60-70% of my damage comes from wakeup games. Things like purposely doing an early overhead and blocking the reversal, crossups, poke strings into throws, poke strings into crossups, etc. I didn't even factor in Sakura's mixup.

But if you can't anti-air free jump-ins or know your max damage combos then there's no point in learning all that.

spent like over an hour in training mode, my execution still sucks. I got no idea how I can be able to get my shyt down flawless.

this is possible, and it's easier to do, plus does more damage, than crossup cr.lk cr.lk st.lp ball. But the hard part is getting the ball to come out, I gotta put myself into a mindset that seperates the first 2 hits from the 2nd two.

* hop XX Ultra.

pretty easy to do, the problem is that I doubt I can do it in clutch situations as it requires a lot of forethought... I think that's where I jus gotta start playing.

* focus attack, dash, cr.mk, Blanka Ball XX Super.

I hate this. The timing is real strict since u're trying to do a charge move after a FADC... u gotta dash then sit there for a split second before you do the cr.mk. Hit him too early, you dont get a ball. Hit too late, your opponent doesnt stay grounded. Plus the clutch factor comes in when you need to go back to a charge immediately after the dash cancel... that's why in matches I always jus throw after successful focus attack

SFIV I think will be looked at differently down the road... partially because it can be patched as well as upgraded... heck, we are getting a tournament mode eventually and I wouldn't be surprised if we see T.Hawk as DLC though I'm sure Ono is against it.

For Evo, I plan on going but really to fight, I just want to be there. I'm considering documenting it and putting together a video for CAG as well as having it as an art project. T6 BR is when I'll plan on going to Evo to fight.

save it for EX hurricane kick, learn how to combo into that (cr.fierce is the best). Also use more LK hurricane kick, it's hella safe and u can poke like cr.lk afterwards.

Like I said, it's been awhile since I've played. I'm super rusty. But, you probably would have kicked the shit out of me since I haven't study much of high level SF tactics/moves. I'm just an above average player.

With my two mains, I play differently.

With Sagat I try to play safe and with Sakura I try and be relentless. Especially since I was fighting Chun Li and Blanka, neither of which I'm used to fighting so I don't know defense very well against them.

I'd love to play again. I'm going to get back into SFIV, I want to put some more time in with my HRAP.

I won one ranked match tonight against a high level Vega, now I'm sittin' pretty at 2700+ BP.

My goal is at least 3,000.

also, I've come to realize I'll never be good at a SF game. SFIV just has me hating the game. I love the game, but I've learned that Capcom has yet to make a character that feels natural to me (outside of Project Justice). They always get it super close, but one thing feels off for me...

GG's to Suko. You completely wrecked my Abel/Seth with your Shotos. I have no idea what the hell is wrong with me tonight :)

I have to play better than that if I'm going to NOT look like an idiot at a SFIV/FG party/get-together that I'm going to in a couple weeks. I had to adjust to your aggressive play-style which doesn't really work for Seth and sort of works for Abel but then becomes one big guessing game on both sides.

Learned tonight that a well-timed FA puts a flat tire in Seth's Wall Jump Cross-Up. Also that Shoto's J.HK beats anything. Oh and that Ryu can throw out a Super/Fireball on a COLLISION :)

GG's to you too AxC. Your Seth is pretty fun to play against and refreshing since you don't find that many Seth players. Yeah, the wall jump is something I capitalize on when I play the CPU so I always look forward to it. However, the CPU sure doesn't do those awesome combos you do! As for Abel I always have to keep on high alert like usual. Even then I seem to eat a lot of links to ultra's lol. I need to work on that. Thought you might enjoy hearing this, against you I honestly have like no chance to pull off DP > Ultra or FADC > Ultra. You just don't jump enough lol! I also require forethought doing FADC > Ultra and can't find an opening on you ever. Oh, and that Akuma match...it probably won't happen again. I did plan that super out, but I doubt I could pull off anything after that stuff again. Anyways, let's play again soon!

After we played I went on rank and I beat a 9,400 BP person...and I didn't take pics cause I skipped too fast :-(

Fei has a couple good tools that make it alot easier than Dan at least. His chicken wing goes through giefs lariat and is a decent aa, and the ex version is fullscreen and goes through projectiles.

He's really tough to win against shotos though since he has some problems dealing with runaway + fireballs when he has no ex chicken wing.

Hey I think I have the fundamentals down but I am absolutely terrible with shoto-type characters. I just stick with my chargers usually. I think that a major difference is that shoto-type characters are usually twitch-instinctual combo-like. It's a lot easier to link together different types of combos with shotos. Charge characters involve more planning and mind games.. at least that's the way I see it. It's interesting to see how the tiers are though. In SFIV, you have 3 shotos as top tier (Sagat, Akuma, Ryu). Then you have Zangief... and then you have a bunch of chargers (Bison, Balrog, Blanka) hmmmmmmmmmm.

The only character I know fairly well is Blanka and I don't really have too much of a problem with Zangiefs. You can slide under the lariat. You can do b, f + k into it. If you electricity while he lariats into you, it'll hit him after he finishes. You can do d, u + k which has priority over his crouching HK. Zangief vs. Blanka is probably Zangief's hardest fight right after Sagat.

no character ever feels natural until you practice, takes me at least a month before i know my character inside out

Rog's EX moves have focus armor on them, u may be able to absorb a hit and hit your opponent before his lariat can hit you again.

It's just kind of a detriment in that other characters have wakeups that can hit at a variety of times (any shoto's srk is the best example) versus his, which requires them to be in the air and so on. Makes him less of a threat AND more susceptible overall.

Yeah, but all you have to do is get in a quick focus attack and run stop fierce them into oblivion. It makes him very intimidating to get in on, and people are really wary of his focus attack.

I can't stand how Rose plays... never liked her in the Alpha series or here. I suck with charge characters as-is but honda is probably the one that I could actually try to play (though badly, because my coordination for chargers is way off).

I like power/speed characters... the problem is Fei has the speed I want but shitty power. Dan has decent power (even if shitty) and just barely the right speed. Gouken has the power I want, but his play style is so oppsoite of how I play it hurts my brain.

GG's to you too AxC. Your Seth is pretty fun to play against and refreshing since you don't find that many Seth players. Yeah, the wall jump is something I capitalize on when I play the CPU so I always look forward to it. However, the CPU sure doesn't do those awesome combos you do! As for Abel I always have to keep on high alert like usual. Even then I seem to eat a lot of links to ultra's lol. I need to work on that. Thought you might enjoy hearing this, against you I honestly have like no chance to pull off DP > Ultra or FADC > Ultra. You just don't jump enough lol! I also require forethought doing FADC > Ultra and can't find an opening on you ever.

I always have to play Abel differently against you and HeavyD's Shotos because you both know my style and I have to crank back the aggressive mix-up's just a little bit. Sometimes it doesn't work in my favor because then I'm being more careful with Abel than I sometimes want to be. Your Ken is nasty. You mix things up so well you don't throw when I would expect you to and so forth.

I don't think I jump much in any fighting game I play. I just learned early on that jumping gets you killed or AA'ed, so I just got it out of my system. Also because CVS2 is my absolute favorite game, I learned quickly in that game that random jumping gets you eating A-Groove combos quiiiiiiiiick.

I'll always be hard on myself playing FG no matter how many complements I get. Mostly I always try to get better and try to get more consistent. If you aren't constantly getting better you are constantly getting worse.

I sold my PS3 and 360 within a week of each other (just got amazing deals on both not to sell them) so all i have is the lol system (wii), so ive turned to GGPO for my gaming needs atm. Man, some AMAZING games to be had on GGPO, playing super turbo is so great on there. Played some guy in samurai shodown 2 who really gave me a run for my money. I played KOF 98' UM all day yesterday. What a great fighter. I unlocked all the characters and did most of the challenges. I tried the Endless mode with Clark and got all the way to Goenitz and he koko desu ka'ed me to death :bomb:

sf4, bo3 or bo5?

i've been playing bo5 this entire time. the reason being is that most of the vids i watched of the japan release were bo5 so i thought it was standard. yesterday i played bo3 because i couldn't find any bo5 matches at my BP level.

because of the meter mechanics it seems like bo5 is better. you hardly ever have super in a bo3. the fact that you have more rounds with some bar can really influence the match. maybe i'm biased because i play sakura and she eats up meter on resets and combos. but i thought bo5 was the way to go.

Best of 3 yo. Play round 1 on an even level, then round 2 plays completely differently than round 1 goes since one person may enter it at an advantage, or both players have extra tools on them.

if you have the privilege to reach round 3, the randomness factor comes into play and makes it an exciting clutch situation.

as far as EX verse Super, it's different on your matchups or characters, some characters don't need EX or supers period whereas others can balance.

Examples, Sakura and Chun should have never need to use their supers. EX hurricane, spinning bird, lightning legs are too powerful of tools to not use.

a character like Ken of Sim tho would not need to use EX at all since they add absolutely nothing to their gameplay, and have a shyt ton of damage potential when they have a super.

then u got doods like Blanka who could use EX Ball or rainbow roll as extremely useful tools in certain situations, but unless you're in a position to take advantage then you can save meter for a super move which can do high damage in a combo.

anyway, the reason JP matches are best of 5 is coz they are one match eliminations. In US we do best of 2 matches so we roll best of 3 rounds.

in 3s, meter can be built by whiffing normals and you can store multiple stocks so it seemed more balanced as far as meter goes. in SF2 your meter restocks every round.

but for example.
say i get brutally owned in round 1. i get owned so i have a lot less meter to start round 2 compared to my opponent. that kinda puts me on the disadvantage for round 2. and generally i don't like slippery slope losing situations. in bo5 i can at least use round 3 to stage a comeback, which actually happens a lot.

to me right now, bo5 feels much more solid than bo3.

True story! I got the OK from my buddy to talk shit randomly during the match. It's going to be too fun.

PRO TIP:

Don't play SFIV online after you've gotten bad news all day. Gets your head out of the game and makes your execution sloppy. Lost about 300-400 BP's a matter of like 2-3 minutes.

Don't know what happened, maybe it was knowing I was ahead or just nerves, but I let his Blanka run all over the rest of my team.

Made a lot of stupid decisions that got punished by Blanka balls, slides and Elec....not even RC Elec!!

Hah, I've just been trying to wrap my head around the fact that you can cancel the high jump into ultra. I have a hard enough time getting the BK after Seismic -> high jump to connect, so I can't imagine how fast you have to do this -.-

Viper has some of the most illogical combos. I usually just spend time practicing cancelling her moves. Light TK is easy to cancel and her Seismic I can do at least 60-70% of the time without accidentally activating the EX version.
