Random non-FG related note: my car got broken into last night after a concert with a friend.

Annoying that I have to take time off from work/class to get this shit fixed. Fuck you San Francisco.

that happened to me earlier this month. sucks like h***, hopefully that culprit chokes on prison d*** some day. hopefully, you have home/renters insurance should cover all the stolen goods inside the car. if you got a credit card or personal information stolen call up the 3 major credit bureaus to put it on fraud alert or something.

Good thing for me I really keep nothing of value in my car. The only things that were in my car were burned mix CD's, 3 actual CD's, some empty water bottles and my friend's car keys. The only thing the thief did steal was about $10-13 worth of change I had in my car :)

Made a hell of a mess though. Having to vacuum up all the broken glass at 2am when I had to be in class/work by 7 was a little annoying. Had to call out at my evening job because this is the only time I have to get my window fixed before my trip to L.A next weekend.

Lucky for me I don't bring my Zune with me unless I'm traveling over 3 hours :)

Damn, suck ass AXC.

Before my car died, I only kept burned MP3 CDs in it. Nothing else of value. I always took my car stereo's faceplate off too, so if some jackass wanted to steal it, he'd have to find another.

asianxcore, becareful when cleaning up when I was cleaning up I guess I opened the door in a wrong fashion (?) and a glass shard go stuck inside the door panels latch, after that I couldn't open my driver's side door (lol). if its just your window that got busted up...I think its better if you don't file a claim (assuming the deductible is around 500), I think you can fix the glass anywhere between 200-400 bucks.

Thanks guys! Lucky for me my evening job was more than happy to move my shift to tomorrow, so I won't be losing a day of work there.

Wasn't worth calling insurance because the cost to fix the window was under $100. Still annoying as I'm going to L.A next week with my g/f & one of my best friends, rather have that money there.

I'm down for games tonight with anyone who wants to play SFIV. I'll be at work tomorrow now and leaving for the SFIV Party/4v4 after work, so tonight is my last night to get some decent practice in :)

Namco is still interested in doing a Tekken vs. VF title, according to Tekken 6 director Katsuhiro Harada.

Namco has openly expressed its desire to bring the two genre-leading heavyweights together on several occasions in the past – a desire that’s not gone away.

Speaking to 360 Gamer, Harada said that a Tekken vs. VF game had come so close to happening on a few occasions, that Namco had even tested elements of the gameplay that could go into such a game.

“The truth is that I have been working to fulfil this dream from over ten years ago,” Harada replied, when asked if such a game could happen.

“There were several occasions on which it came close to realisation. Opinions may vary, but I have wanted to do this for a long time. Therefore, the chance is not zero. It is possible.

“However, there would be many difficulties during actual development. First off, which team would develop it? I have some ideas for the controls and fighting system. Some parts have even been tested.

“It’s really up to the fans and whether they want it. If you have opinions about this, please send them to me!”

Harada didn’t mention how things were looking at the moment. But with Mario & Sonic at the Olympics having done well for Sega, hopefully we’ll see its other great franchise given the chance to link up with its biggest rival.

I'd like to see Tekken characters utilizing the VF movement and I'd like to see VF chars using Tekken style system based attacks.

that'd be sweet... VF kinda has a light bound system already...

I wonder who would rival who? Jacky vs Paul?

definitely King vs El Blaze (almost called him El Fuerte)

MarkMan
04-10-2009, 04:11 AM
No way... King vs Wolf...

El Blaze can play with Armor King or something.... might as well do this with the rest of the cast...

Sarah vs Nina
Jacky vs Law
Taka-Arashi vs Ganryu
Kage vs Raven/Yoshimitsu
Shun-Di vs Lei
Lau vs Heihachi
Pai vs Asuka
Jean vs Lars
Goh vs Dragunov
Brad vs Steve/Bruce
Akira vs Kazuya/Jin
Jeffrey vs Armor King/Jack-6
Vanessa vs Bryan?

And... Tekken has too many characters compared to VF...

RelentlessRolento
04-10-2009, 04:13 AM
Armor King would eat El Blaze >_<

Marduk seems more like wolf's size though... though that dosn't matter...

I'd call Steve against Brad and Bryan against Goh.

Yay... update.. yay...

Battle Fantasia first impressions: I like it a lot... although all Arc Systems games pretty much look the same, the graphics style is uniquely fantasy-ish and colorful. Also, the 2.5D definitely works. I'd say I like it more than DOA, KOF, and Guilty Gear, but less than SF, Tekken, and VF.

I'm at my wits end and getting so frustrated that I'm developing a scrub mentality but dear God how in the world am I supposed to defeat Zangief with Balrog in SF4? I can handle the throws, most zangief players can't even get one off me. It's the lariat, I just can't deal with it. Even the terrible giefs who just abuse it beat me and it kills me. I have some success zoning with standing jab and low rush to punish lariats, but all it takes it one knockdown and I'm being crosssed up and reminded just how terrible Balrog's headbutt is now (half the time they block that shit while landing or lariat beats it).

I can handle the Balrog vs Zangeif matchup just fine in SF2 and Cvs2, but not here.

djbooba
04-10-2009, 04:13 PM
The Buffalo Headbutt should be one of Zangief's weaknesses. You should also learn the timing of the lariat so you can either jump in and get frame advantage or just hit them at the last possible moment. It takes a little while to get used to but once you do, that match isn't so bad. Now a good Zangief player will still be scary as hell.

Jump in deep roundhouse beats the lariat, make sure Balrog's fist hits around Gief's head. Once you get a lead, turtle like a bitch. You have no reason to get close anymore. If you're having problems with crossups, just backdash on wakeup.

This is a tough match for Balrog though. You just have to play smart and be sure to hit your links consistently.

The character list for XII is unchanged. I wouldn't be surprised to see more characters and unlockables in the console version, but that's still a few months out at least and we don't even know if they will be DLC or off disc.

Keep in mind that it's KOF anniversary so they're gonna make some new art to celebrate.

I figure there'll be extra characters like Mai, but that page you linked is just the general (Japan) KOF page and they are doing the Anniversary thing right now. True story. I'm all for new players in any fighting game, keeps the community stronger. More competition

Thing is, shit like that is what I get annoyed with. Do we want a community filled with new players who make excuses when they lose. How about players that make excuses when they see tactics they've never seen before. I've always learned to take the losses on the chin and move on. Obviously if you lost, there is always a reason for it right?

If you lose, figure out why you lost and get better. Thing is I get confused because maybe these players don't want to get better, maybe they are just fine beating their friends and showing off to them. Who knows

I think the problem a lot of new players have is that many of the more seasoned veterans are content with just beating the noobs and moving on.. never offering any advice on how to improve. That's what I noticed from most of the local SRK people I've met anyway.

the problem is that the company that puts out the game has no interest on seriously training the players or teaching them the "right" way to play or even vesting an interest in the true competitive scene, leaving it up to the scene itself to advance the competitive community.

why do i have to take the time out of my life to improve someone else? i will only do that if the guy actually shows that he wants to improve himself, because then he / she can teach me a few things too.

i've taken the time to train this one in girl in SC4 and SF3 because she said she wanted to learn but the fact is that she never took the time to seriously learn by herself or even grasp what i'm saying. i'd talk to her about frame advantage and learning key combos and punishers, and then the next day she'd tell me about how she learned how to do all the moves from the movelist and she still button mashes when she plays because she doesn't want to take the time to improve. it was a waste of my time.

that's why i don't care and that's why the veterans shouldn't care.

i've taken the time to train this one in girl in SC4 and SF3 because she said she wanted to learn but the fact is that she never took the time to seriously learn by herself or even grasp what i'm saying. i'd talk to her about frame advantage and learning key combos and punishers, and then the next day she'd tell me about how she learned how to do all the moves from the movelist and she still button mashes when she plays because she doesn't want to take the time to improve. it was a waste of my time.

that's why i don't care and that's why the veterans shouldn't care.

Maybe.. but I think that all boils down to something that I'll call, "overall ease of entry" as a group dynamic. A welcome environment usually becomes a thriving environment. I know that very few of the people I play locally (besides a couple great guys up at UMBC) really gave a fuck about helping me learn how to play SFIV. I had to learn from:

And as for the Akuma comment I made, I've never used Akuma before SFIV and he seemed easier to lay some heavy smack down with than Gouken......That, and I've hardly played SFIV in the last month thanks to Best Buy's 50% off anime sale last month, so SFIV's fighter balancing isn't fresh in my mind.

Based on the fact I have zero experience, would only play offline, or online with friends or you guys and have no stick for my 360, only the stock controller and chun-li fightpad. You are making me blush! No seriously, it's always nice to see people take new information from every loss or every win of a fight. There are reasons for both. If you win, you can still see why you won or how you can get better. With losing, it's never just that. Why did you lose? What can you do better next time.

I realize not everyone wants to be tournament level or even cares, but I just can't stand this new generation of fighting game players (which spawned with SC4/SFIV) that throws around terms like "noob" and "cheap" without knowing what they are really saying.

Then again I also agree with kainzero, I've gotten to the point with fighting games where I am open to teach anyone who is willing to learn. I am always open to answer questions or help out with matchups, or pick out what can make someones character tighter. For example tonight I was at a big get together with my friends and there were games going on in every room of this house. Lots of people were asking and talking about SFIV and how they could improve, or how they beat this certain matchup and so on. These people seemed very sincere about learning and not once did anyone complain with "Oh god, he's so cheap" or "That's so cheesy" or anything like that. They all took losses on the chin and applied themselves to casuals in SFIV later.

I had the experience of having my old crew work really hard to get us up to speed in many FG games. Most of them were really good and then one day they all collectively stopped playing, answering phone calls and practicing. It was disheartening as a friend and as a fellow member of a fighting game group. They didn't care enough to keep going seriously (which was also fun at the same time), so I didn't care to want to push them to play all the time. So now I'm with a different group of friends/crew that has a ton of fun but also we push each other to do our best and learn new tactics.

You learn wherever you can take it nowadays. Information is everywhere and arcades are still thriving in certain parts of the country. Competition is everywhere, you just gotta look.

On a kind of related note (not really), at the party I went to tonight we threw a 16-18 man (maybe more) SFIV Tournament.

Rules were:
-Double Elim
-Winner keeps character
-3 Rounds
-Best 2/3
-Losers & Winners Bracket

It was the most fun I've had recently and I took first place with Abel/Seth. I won the winners bracket clean and then sat around all night talking, hanging out until Winner's final. Too fun!

Got home at 5am though :)

Agreed with this. That's mostly why I don't play too many randoms in fighters. I did play everybody in VF5 online. I always hosted. I haven't played more than a few randoms in SFIV. I'm waiting for rooms. If a fighter has rooms, I don't mind playing randoms.

I've never had a crew to roll with and play fighters with. At most, it was a few friends and I playing SCII. FGT is the only crew I have, really. I need to move out of Podunk and to where I can find locals to play.

I love VF5, and the 360 version is the current best home version. VF5 R will probably never come home.

On the stock 360 pad, it's not too bad. I got used to it, but damn that pad sucks ass. I blew out my wireless 360 pad's dpad playing so much VF5. Now that I have a 360 stick, I want to get back into it.

Yeah, get it. Even with a stock 360 pad, it's worth it. The offline "Quest" mode can take about 20 hours to get through, depending on the difficulty. Highly recommended.8-)8-)8-)

In my mind, with the amount of information available on the internet now and the speed at which combos / videos are put up, it is EASY to figure out the general flow of the game and how to play... not like back in the days when everyone played Duc's MvC2 Spiral / Cable / Clops because that was the ONLY video available on SRK.

And it pisses me off when they can't reach the basic level of play before asking to be taught.

Example was a couple years back, when a friend of mine (Afam) had a little FG meetup. Well there was this guy that said he wanted to get better. Fair enough, but when we got there he was doing J.HK - C.HK combos in CvS2, misusing terms like Frame Advantage to make himself sound smarter, and calling Bison cheap because of his roll kick (this, btw, was after he saw the PTF combo). Then he kept saying how great DoA was and that he was on Afam's skill level in T5 because he put him in the air and then mashed buttons for a combo.

To me, that's unacceptable. I don't want to take the time to make you better if you can't reach a basic level by yourself. If you at least show that basic level, and you ask questions, people usually will take the time to answer them. And it's easy to befriend people in FGs anyway.

It's not even about being "tournament-level" (whatever that means, I mean, the only thing it takes to be a tournament player is to pay the entry fee), but to just sit down and enjoy the game and it's learning curve and to get better.

asianxcore
04-11-2009, 05:14 PM
More good points kainzero. Also sorry to be confusing with the "tournament level" description, I guess what I should've said is that not everyone cares to learn constant and consistent high level play. Again most people who throw those key words (n00b, cheap) around are fine with barely learning the basics and learning one flashy combo to "wow" their friends.

My view on it is if someone is going to call me "cheap" or a "noob" because they can't adapt, I hold them in a different light than someone just learning. I was talking about it last night to my friends, we all still don't get those words used mostly when players can't adapt. If I know someone is unable to tech my throws, you damn sure I'm going to keep doing it. If I know they are susceptible to cross-ups/mix-ups, I'll do that shit too. I shouldn't have to dumb down my gameplay because the other person can't figure out what I am and am not capable of in the first match or so.

To go more on your point about information, internet match videos still feel VERY new to me. I am happy I can watch players from all over the country, but at the same time I think like you do. With all these videos for people to study for FREE, assuming they want to get better, why don't they? There's just so many tools for new players to get better, even if everyone in the fighting game community isn't lending a hand.

I can look up videos from players all over the country. I have several message boards where there are character breakdowns, match-ups, BnB's, everything I could ever want to know about a fighting game without even leaving my chair.

Not to date myself, but when I first got into SFI/SFII, there was none of that. You learned to adapt by getting your ass beat/embarrassed in front of crowds at arcades. You plunked down all the money you had so you could get better. There was no way at the time I could play someone from outside of my area (via internet), so all my comp was my friends and people I met and talked to at arcades. I just find that many new players that I see on SFIV online (and I know it's not indicative of the entire wave of new players) just bitch because overall they are just sore losers. They are playing a game that for years they thought was just a simple game and they "owned" people at arcades years ago. I just still don't appreciate people making up crappy excuses and calling people names if their own skill is at fault.

There are just TOO many tools to study via ANY fighting game you want to learn nowadays. If you truly do want to get better and play high level, the information is there and there is nothing stopping you. Just commit and commit. Play when you don't want to. Practice the same shit over and over till you are sick of it. Apply it, make friends, have fun!

distgfx
04-11-2009, 05:38 PM
Wow... I know I have no right to speak about this particular subject but... Isn't it more fun to figure out this stuff on your own anyway? Even if I lose a lot, I'd rather learn that way because it's more fun. I'll be honest, I'm not trying to get to tournament level and probably never will for any fighter. I do however love playing them and getting better. I've never been a competitive person though. :-#

Thanks for the recommendation on VF5 guys, looks like I'll be picking it up.

Dammit lol. Now that I have an outside opinion of my Ryu/Ken, I know it's true and not just me. Honestly I have no clue what's going on. It started one day when I lost 400 BP one day, then about another 500 BP the next day. I think it's exams and stuff. I can't shake this crappiness off (yet).

As for the Seth thing, it's because you throw a sonic boom now sometimes before you wall jump. I absorb that so I don't think I can take your wall jump kick so I don't go for it. Correct me if I'm wrong though :)

When you're standing around as Abel when our health was low...yeah I know the reason. That's why I wasn't throwing many fireballs and attempting to make it hard for you to predict, so don't worry. I caught on :)

It's not that your Ryu/Ken are completely awful now, I just have come to expect a certain level of play with your Shotos and HeavyD's. Your Ryu is usually pretty lockdown and I was surprised I was getting away with a lot of free stuff with Abel/Seth.

Exams can do that to you. Once that shit is over, you'll get out of your funk.

Also you might be right about the Boom before Wall Jump. I've learned so much more with Abel/Seth in the past month or so that I just automatically applied and still don't realize I'm doing it. The only time I will Wall Jump without boom now is if I know I can get the opponent on Fireball startup.

You can FA Seth's wall jump? Good to know. ;)

Yes! Also that is (like Suko said) if I don't follow the Boom off the wall or if I don't get a clean cross-up out of it. Landing short gets FA punish.

That shit is hot fire... the amount of detail and shit going on in the background is insane...

to be honest, I haven't but based off the HD footage I have seen recorded, it's already hot, and if on an official screen the framerate is even higher, I will never need a woman to satisfy me (jk... i really hope)

Though in the meantime I hit the training room and mastered cammy's cannon strike trick, I did 21 in a row before I finished haha.

Trivia Time: Did you know that Vic Mignogna, who voiced Junpei Iori in Persona 3, Edward from Full Metal Alchemist and Kurz Weber from Full Metal Panic, was the voice of Vega in Street Fighter II? It was also his first voice acting gig. Not a bad start, if I do say so, myself.

The Street Fighter II animated movie or the game?

it's up to you.

personally i don't like focusing practice on stuff that would end up being meaningless.

like if i found a crazy combo with a 1-frame link and i perfected it endlessly, but in the end there's a much easier combo that does more damage, then yeah, you know?

plus when i play against competition, there's a lot of stuff that i figure out that i can't really explain, but is really helpful to learn.

for example, i was watching my friend play online. and i knew exactly what would come out, what move the opponent would do, JUST based on experience. and it's not like i knew the opponent, but i can key in and read the patterns. you can't teach that or read about it in an article, and it's the kind of stuff you learn when you play.

if i were gonna try to explain it, then... it'd be like
"Yeah, in this situation he does a jump kick, because you've been poking him for a while and you can tell that he's impatient and won't sit there all the time. "

or

"He's ultra-aggressive based on the way he's been doing his combos and reversals, so as soon as he jumps back he's gonna do a super fireball, just jump over it and combo."

there's no rationale for that, you just think that way and yeah

I doubt it. I really don't see this having the same hype that SFIV pulled in, which is good and bad.

Zmonkay--- Yes it will support online play via a lobby system. The PS3 network is fine imo, I have had no real problems with it. Hell unless you have a custom stick or one of the Madcatz SFIV sticks I say go with the PS3 version. The Hori sticks for the 360 are crap, square gate makes me want to punch a baby. With the PS3 you can use a dongle to use your old PS2 sticks. Now if someone comes and tells me there is a dongle for PS2 to 360 I will have your babies.

I really have had no problems with the network (PSN). However in STHDR and SFIV, the online play is pretty bad. This is due to their horrible online coding. STHDR still has a couple connection glitches but is much better after the patch (not as many network disconnects). Finding a match in SFIV is crap since you can find a match faster in arcade mode set to accept challenges. If I connect to a friend within the area, gameplay is fine (no real lag). None of these problems are due to PSN, but the games themselves.

Overall, the lag in these games are almost nonexistant with STHDR using a netcode approved by GGPO and SFIV playing just fine with 3+ bars on connection (never seen a 5 bar).

Since the last patch, text chat rooms were introduced. It seems some games are affected by this. At least in Socom, other CAGs were disconnected claiming it was the text chat room's fault. Not exactly sure about this, so you can't exactly put the blame on the text chat rooms just yet. I did however host an hour long STHDR night and I stayed connected just fine the whole hour. However, there was a CAG who was having some connection troubles, don't know if it was the PSN side or client side. He claimed it was his crappy connection.

The PSN is really good I think, especially considering it's free. If there are any frustrations, it's usually the game's fault and it's most likely shared cross-platform.

I really prefer the PS3 version because of the stick compatibility. However, I read that some of the ps2/ps3 adapters were not working after the patch. You'll have to read into this (at ps3 forums) if you use an adapter.

If you enjoy any of the older Vs games, especially MvC2, I don't see you you wouldn't like GG. Fast, flash, and combo heavy as hell. As ReRo said though, the system is kinda a clusterfuck. There's a TON of depth, but many of the systems don't make sense at first. Thankfully it's really accesible to new players too. There's no need for using such things as False Roman Cancels (or even Roman Cancels) at first, but I love that its there for the more die hard/tourney players.

#Reload or Slash should be found cheap nowadays, but as said, avoid Isuka like the plague. GG is one of my favorite series, and I could only tolerate Isuka for 20 minutes... blech. Or just pick up AC Plus when it comes out soon. Should be hella tight.

As for if BlazBlue is an improvement? Jekki, wut u think?

You think? I would say that at least on the surface there are some def. comparisons. Unlike many other 2d fighters (SF series, KoF, CvS, etc) they are very fast and combo heavy fighters. I would venture that they stem from the Darkstalkers format (imho SF2 with more show and pizazz, plus the introduction of chain combos) and just got crazier as they went on. At least, that's how I've always viewed them. Other, more "technical" or slower based fighters have just never been my cup of tea. So basically, I lumped 2d fighters into 2 basic groups, and put GG in the faster group with MVC et al.

Ahem.. Why should you buy KOFX12 and BlazBlue? Good question fellow FGTers. I'll take a stab at it. Like the rest of the FGT, I grew up in America. That means hot dogs, apple pie, and Street Fighter, certainly not KOF or any wacky fighters like that. So, you might be saying to yourself.. Phrosty, why should I buy games that I have little interest in? Here's why:

The last real SF2 upgrade, Super Turbo.. was released in 1994. 15 years ago.
The last real SF3 upgrade, Third Strike.. was released in 1999. 10 years ago.
Street Fighter IV, the sequel to SF2, was released this year, 2009. It took 15 years to come out with a sequel.

What happened in those 15 years that resulted in such a long period without a sequel? That's debatable. Could have been black bears... One of the factors was the collapse of the American arcade industry.. another was having the original SF team disbanded, another was probably the global economic recession. Anyway, it doesn't matter. 2008-2009 is the return of the fighting game. All of these came/are coming out on XBox and PS3: Battle Fantasia, SF Remix, SFIV, SCIV, BlazBlue, KOFXII, Tekken 6, and probably others.

The time to show that you still care about fighters is now. Do it with your wallets people. Show those publishers that you care by putting food on their families tables.

Markman dropped some major bombs about MEGATONS for E3, he also detailed the lineup of top fighting games you wouldnt even believe due out in 09 and 10, and he also mentioned the contents of the Blazblue LE in exact detail! He also sent out a free copy of it for everyone who was in the chat!!! Thanks markman!!

Update from Capcom.

Middle of May now all preorders should be fulfilled. There are over 800 orders waiting. MC only sent them 20 sticks end of March shipment. Retailers have higher priority over Capcom.

I asked about if MC will include something special for waiting (per Capcom blog), but they didn't know. This is absolute bullshit! I'm fucking sick of waiting for this God damn thing.

Damn that blows blue.:( It really does. I ordered from them since I thought they would be getting restocked regularly since it's their freaking branding on the stick. GUESS NOT!!!

I ordered a SFIV TE stick from gamestop.com on 4/10/09 with free saver shipping. They had it up for maybe 15 mins before you couldn't add to cart (now they aren't even on the site). I wonder if they really have it in stock. I tried to order 2 but they canceled one of my orders saying "because of limited supplies it will be one per customer." Seems good enough. I will wait til 4/20 to see if they have shipped it yet.

I was thinking about returning my SFIV SE fightstick but if gamestop doesn't come through I'll have no stick at all. And waiting for lizardlick to try my 1st modding/swapping seems like it'll take til the end of the year for them to ship me anything. That's if I can even put in an order in the next week or so, whenever they open again.

any stick modders out there?

so i bought this stick (http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0015PHMFU/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&qid=1239907005&sr=1-2&condition=new) with the hopes of modding it with some sanwa parts.

I was leaning towards some obsf-30 buttons (not sure on the color scheme yet). and i was thinking of using a JLF-TP-8YT-SK 8 way joystick.

so what I really want are suggestions. I don't care too much for the aesthetics of the stick, I just want it to be sturdy, reliable, and responsive.

also, does anybody know of anybody in so cal who's selling parts? lizard lick is still down and I want to get started on this side project ASAP

Can't say I'v ever modded a mayflash, or read anything about it. I think there is a guide on SRK for doing it though. Check out the SRK buy/sell/trade thread for guys selling parts too.

Not bad. I haven't been playing shit, just trying to save up for a car. Almost there, then I get to get raped by the state of Illinois.

$89 title transfer + $78 a year vehicle registration = Fuck you, Illinois. :bomb: I need to move.

I need to play some fighters this weekend.
