Which is odd. Mostly because (and we've talked about this in person) I don't play Shotos at all, save for N-Akuma in CVS2.

It's silly how intimidating Ryu is in SFIV with any sort of meter. Jab Shoryu into anything.

For Bison or in general? I noticed you played a lot of Bison/Rog.

The only things I'd suggest is learning their pokes and BnB's pretty much inside and out. Looked like you had Rog's Headbutt xx Ultra down, so you just need to learn how to get your opponent into the situation (via BnB) when you want to.

For Bison (that J.MP xx Ultra was funny), I would use his s.HK a lot more and again learning his BnB's, punishes and so on. Also you were using it but EX Headstomp can get you out of jams.

You just have to learn the basics first. Basic to Advanced punishes for all characters, match-ups, etc.

I love how everyone has tons of tips to beat Abel, since I whore him as my main :)

The exchange rate for Bison dollars isn't in my favor and I got tons of Mono ;)

TBH, I don't have money to even put down for it, otherwise I would've picked one up myself.

The SE's are $80 each for both 360/PS3 (yea, they hiked up the PS3 version even though it should be $70) and the fightpads are $40. I've only looked at the PS3 section and they have probably 8-10 there and made out Blanka and Chun versions. There's probably other ones hidden behind them, but those two are the ones you can see in the front.

They said they'll be getting a couple TE's in, but they don't know when and it's first come, first serve; They won't hold em' for anyone :/

heres a serious question

WHY DOES EX HEADBUTT GET HIT BY PROJECTILES?

normal headbutts go through CLEAN, ive been playing long enough that 1 guile projectile = 1 hit, therefore ex takes that hit.

why is seths jump hit, able to hit u above the head? that is bs!

how can u block abels combo, the one where he... does the arm swing.....hit in the stomach then throw crap.

i block the first two then the 3rd hits me, i tried to block low and bam i get hit.

and.. why doesnt ex dash punch absorb abels rising leg sweep across the screen? it only counts as ONE hit, i did the dash punch ex and i still got hit. i dont understand the properties.

Are you talking about Seth's J.HP? It's sort of random but it acts like an overhead if you time it right.

Abel's Rekka....depends on what the player is using. If I'm not mistaken you can block high the whole time and still be alright. I rarely use Low on the 2nd and 3rd hit because of the start-up being awful.

Abel's Wheel Kick breaks EX Armor, that's why it doesn't absorb the first hit with Rog's EX Dash.

With anyone playing with Seth, other than obviously knowing the match-up, I suggest applying tons of pressure during the match and punishing the limbs (Neutral j.HP, j.HP, cr.HP).

You'd be really surprised what connects on Seth's limb recovery. Found out a couple weeks ago that Rose's Shamwow actually connects on whiffed Seth HP poke. I tend to slightly change the timing on my HP's to avoid that sort of thing.

I'm not a Rog player, but you should use his cr.HP more for AA. You were sitting on the headbutt too much during our matches, I was actually baiting it with Abel after the 2nd match.

I tend to be more comfortable playing charge characters instead of qcf/hcf/dp characters. I might try to take up on Gen though, seems like an interesting character to play with. Man, that abel v. abel mirror match yesterday was humiliating for me. Everything was fine in training mode up until that point.

Btw, the BlazBlue LE looks really nice. Ugh, I might get it. :)

The most degen thing Ive ever seen happened at EVO a few years back. It was the height of the Marvel vs Capcom 2 craze which just brought out the egos in everyone and lead to money matches and sht talking by everyone. After some general video game degen betting one of the pro players starts bragging about his manhood. Another player retorts that there is no way he is of any substantial size and it ends in literal dick measuring contest officiated by one of the weird video game groupie girls who was way more than happy to do it. MvC2 is evil and just brings out the degen in everyone.

Thanks man. I've had it like 80% down for a couple weeks now, just too weiner to try it in real situations. Mistiming of that F-->MK Dash Cancel and you eat all sorts of random shit on Wake-Up.

Probably will start throwing it into my game more as I get more confident in using it. It's a pretty sweet block string, once you get it in your opponents head what Abel is fully capable of.

Took 3rd (would have been 2nd if it was single elim) at a local tourney here in Vegas last Friday. I made a thread for those that don't frequent here, but here is a post of some edited footage my buddy Shinketsu made (he's a film student, so it's actually editied pretty well).

Basically, I went head up with the 2 of the best players in town...seriously, when I walked in and saw them, I wanted to turn around and leave. But I held my ground and made it to the winners bracket finals with THE best player in town, RuiN. This is after I managed to knock off Wes in the semis, which was kind of a big deal since I'm a relative unknown in the scene here (I don't get out much, what with school, work, and a 3-month baby).

Storm is more user friendly than magneto, but they both require some pretty calculated airdashing.......or you could just spam SJ ADDF lk, cr lk and once it hits launch and into aircombo lightning attack super dhc sentinel.

So after playing Championship Mode only for the last couple days (minus CAG/FGT) fights, I decided to jump back into random Ranked Matches? Why? I hadn't got one Rage Quit or pissy message during or after any of my Championship games.

Oh how I was wrong to chose to do so.

First two matches I win in Ranked, I get one guy telling me after I beat him, I gave him the "Cheapest.Match.Ever" (Seth/Fei)

Also another guy called my Abel "Sorry" after I beat him. So I told him to play me and stop bitchin'. So we played about 17 Player Matches, where I went 12-5.

12-5 with Abel, Seth, Ryu, and Rufus. All of you who know me know I don't play the last two AT ALL.

Random bitching in fighting games, online or off always seems to annoy me to no end. I actually messaged the last guy with "GG's. Next time don't call people out based on one game". Obviously after going 5-12, he didn't have anything to say back.

Gaining GP's is like earning tickets from a redemption machine. The more consecutive matches you win, the more GP's you get. When you finally lose, GP's are converted into so much CP, which is like taking that handful of tickets and walking away with a plastic frog.

In Championship Mode, you're supposed to end up back at the main menu after each fight, right? I just want to make sure I'm doing it right. I was assuming it was some sort of tournament bracket at first, but I guess it's just a different way of doing a single online battle? Like it's not so much a "tournament" in the direct sense, but more like a context and framework for your individual online battles?

On another note I finally got around to playing the soundtrack CD that came with the SFIV CE yesterday. It was cool, I didn't realize it had the character themes from the online menu screens! I just figured it was the stage music, but if I had to have one or the other I'd prefer the character themes anyway. just grasp the stick whatever way is comfortable to u. there is no real technique! just keep playing with it, itll feel awkward at first and ull want to run back to the pad to do ur fireballs, but after id say a few days to a week ull think why the hell wasnt i learning stick before?

honestly the most comfortable is on a table that is above your elbows so that your wrist doesnt get carpal tunnel like mine is cause its on my lap all day Lol, but on the lap is pretty good.

Zmonkay, there are really no tips for getting used to a stick. There is no right way to hold the button or the stick, as everyone finds different ways comfortable.

I know it sounds mean to say but either you get used to it or you don't. I have friends that have all grown up in arcades so using a stick is like second nature and pad is never an option (I am like that). I also have friends that are the opposite. They are alright on stick, but are so used to Pad they can pull of their normal play style on Pad.

That kind of question shows up on the SRK forums too. Lots of people bought into the TE bonanza thinking that magically it would be an easy transition from Pad to Stick. They'll start blaming parts of the stick instead of their own mechanics.

Just keep practicing with it, obviously go for what feels best for you and don't get discouraged :)

Hopefully I can get used to pad->stick once mine arrives. It's pretty much a sink-or-swim option, since there's no pads allowed at EVO this year.

Thanks for all the advice folks. I wouldn't have dropped 150+ on it if I wasn't gonna put in the effort (er, this time, at least *glances at guitar, cobalt flux dance pad, Steel Battalion...).

My lack of ability with a stick has been an embarrassment for too long, especially playing friends in arcades. I'm not amazing, but I'm pretty decent at most fighters using a pad, but even my best games become cluster fucks once I hit the arcades :( Can't wait to learn BlazBlue with it though!

There are no wireless controllers allowed at Evo. And since all the games are being played on PS3, the only option is a stick.

Definitely the ease of using a stick on PS3 due to converters or Cthulu is the reason PS3 is the system of choice. Honestly, I like my HRAP EX, but I could've saved so much money just by sticking to PS3 only for fighters.

I can talk about this issue since I'm a recent pad > stick convert. Here's my history:
I never really used sticks.. ever. I played arcade games once in a while as a kid but was never really good. I'm only 23 so I caught the tail end of the big SF2 craze. So, I always played fighting games on pad.. mostly Genesis when I was young, then PSX/PS2 when I was older. I only bought my Xbox 360 last year and got VF5 right away. I immediately discovered that I hated the dpad and kinda shelfed the game. Then when SF2 Remix was announced I went into ultra-hype mode, since SF2 was always my favorite fighting game until I discovered Tekken 3.. I got SF2 Remix and learned to play on the analog stick. I also pre-ordered the TE stick in January.. but only got it in April. So, when SFIV came out I used the analog stick for that too until I managed to find an EX2. It took me about a week or so to get used to it. Keep in mind, I play charge characters mostly.. when I use shotos I can only get their supers/ultras about 50% of the time.. but this isn't the sticks fault. Even with the analog stick on the Xbox controller I could still only get them 50%. I use the TE stick now and am used to it.. even though the buttons are a little too sensitive for my retard-button-mashing-style.

Long story short, was it worth it? Yes. I now play charge characters a lot better than I ever could on pad. It takes a while to get used to it, but once you do I doubt you'll want to go back.

That's what I thought. I figured they were just being hard on it since it wasn't anything new. I always perfered the orginal Budokai series over Tenkaichi. I just never found it fun.

Ditto, I'm not a fan of the tenkaichi series either, and yea, they mainly ripped on it because they said it wasn't anything new. :roll:

All of the characters got new moves and the combat itself got new features. I'd say that's pretty damned new.

Same here, but really only with circle characters.

Only the charge guys get the stick until I feel comfortable using Viper/Ryu on a square gate ;)

It really isn't too bad if if you're a Wolf Hawkfield player(like me) because a good number of his better moves are variations of circular rotations.

I'll agree with this. However, it'll take you a while to grasp the controls for Tenkaichi. Once you do though, it's pretty good for a DBZ game.

Yes I did. I owned DBZ:BT2 at one point & rented #3. Not that it's a bad game but just not my thing. I guess I perfer a more traditional approch to fighting games. Tenkaichi just didn't feel like a fighter, more like a 1 vs 1 action game. But I will say that the Tenkaichi series more acuratly depicts a DBZ fight.

Budokai vs Tenkaichi is like Skaters vs Rollerbladers.

^ It's funny you mention GT. I sold my copy for $150 around when DBZ was hot. At the store I used to work at we sold them. Of course I played them all and knew how bad they were. I would tell people how bad these games were and they'd still shovel out $40 for the converter & $60 for a game. Some would by all 3.

Also I wouldn't say that video is a "counter" video for what Seth does. Arturo has a great Seth, but he is really aggressive with him. He throws in a lot of SPD and Lightning Kick mix-ups, as well as the j.MP xx Stomp resets. Staying that close to Boxer is bound to get you in some hairy situations.

What that video showed me is that Seth gets punished for making even one mistake, which you already knew :)

Also that video is assuming everyone's Seth plays the same. As you, HeavyD and Beef know I play my Seth relatively safe, with lots of focus on Zoning. Mixing up neutral j.HP, j.HP and cr.HP with different timings is part of how my mind game goes with him.

A good friend of mine plays Seth completely different. He does lots of tick throw setups/SPD setups with Seth, with BnB's thrown in as well as some zoning. He and I play Seth completely different.

For Abel's Rekka, you can usually FA (or Shoryu if you are playing a Shoto) after the first blocked hit too. Just be careful that whoever you are playing against doesn't Tornado Throw after the first blocked hit.

Such an uphill battle for Abel against Rufus. Mostly because the lack of a reliable AA. Once the triangle jump/dive kick mix-ups start it gets insane. Either you LK Marseilles Roll on Wake-Up to hopefully get out of there or you block and hope you won't eat a tick throw. EX Marseilles Roll gets you out of there, but it's a waste of meter depending on the situation.

It made me continuously shake my head how lame EX Messiah Kick is. Not because it's actually lame, but because of the invincibility frames on start-up. You either get yourself out of trouble or make someone eat it :)

There's gonna be a tournament at one of the Gamestops in Serramonte around the last week of the month. SFIV, Brawl, and even Pokemon. The weird thing is that it's free entry for all of them, and they're handing out gift cards as prizes. I'm gonna enter so I can gauge my progress in SFIV, and find out what I need to work on.

At no point when I played HeavyD or Beef's Rufus did I question why he's top tier. Hitting his Ultra from pretty much anything is one of my many things that make me shake my head with him.
