Looks good, but I think the SFIV is a bit nicer to be honest... actually, I've seen a few that look nice on white, but it's almost never the same white as the console or it's just a different color >_<

That's true Mark.. "better" is a subjective term. Most would say lack of slowdown is better than presence of slowdown. Still, there are about 4 months left before the game is release. So far, the only difference pointed out has been slowdown. Xbox: 1, PS3: 0. Who knows.. maybe the tables will have turned by the time the game is released? (DLC? Bonus content in collectors editions?)

I was playing some guy in HDR today in a Ranked Match with Zangief. He was Dictator and I pretty much just used basic tactics to own him the first round. Halfway through the second round he rage quits on me since I was still owning him. He voice messages me with "Scrub, why even bother playing? I mean, come on." He messaged me again later saying "That is what I thought" I never responed to him in the first place. I'm far from a scrub but nowhere near pro. I was more just surprised than insulted by the whole thing. The funny thing is that I messed up the microswitches on my joystick on my ex2 so I have a hard time registering down-back or 1.

As an added bonus today, I got 2 other rage quitters before I couldn't play anymore.

When I first fought Shin Deathbringer I couldn't figure out what to do so I got really frustrated... but then I realized you just have to go into rage mode and use combos on him. I haven't played in a while though so I can't tell you my strategy for sure but I think it went something like this:

-always keep medium distance
-wait for him to attack you, block (or counter), and then respond with a rage + combo
-if you're good at linking regular moves into special moves you can try rage + combo + special move.. but this is difficult to execute and you have to use mulitple super gauges.

I need to play through that game some more.. the story mode was fun but it takes like an hour or so to get one character up to 100% in story mode. :\

Went to a local SFIV/SFHD gathering last night that lasted until 4am. Too fun. Very little beats making new friends and catching up with old ones, all the while playing SFIV and SFHD.

It was my first time playing on a SFIV TE stick at some points in the night too. Played on two modded ones and a stock stick. Too nice. I want one :) (even though I have 4 sticks already)

Assassin check out the the Akuma thread on srk for tips. One thing I will tell you is forget about demon, super or ultra until you can do it with out thought, and even then its very risky.

I'm thinking about getting a stick for my ps3, since that's what my copy of SF4 is for. I've been a pad-player for the entirety of my short fighting-games career, and from what I've been hearing, a stick is a must if I really want to get better.

I've been doing me research on the subject, from the pros vs. con of building my own stick rather than buying it off the shelf (and I do have a access to a battery-dead 6axis pcb that's just screaming to be brought back to life), to the debate of octo-gate vs square gates vs free gates.

Kinda overwhelmed, and I've been getting sticker-shock at some of the higher end premade sticks. I'm pretty close to noobish in fighting strength, and I heard the transition from pad to stick is fairly rough. I think, whether I build it or buy it, that I might settle for an octo gate setup, but aside from that, I'm still pretty lost in the whole subject. Any suggestions? Should I just get the low-priced and cheaply made Mad Catz stick, or should I go ahead and pick up a Hori or something? Are there videos or tutorials of how to pull off those moves in SF4 that I've been pulling off on gamepads?

A basic FS3 or EX2 are not bad for first time stick owners but the Madcatz SE is better than both of them out of the box. When it comes to the TE vs a EX or HRAP 3 the TE beats them out hands down. Better parts, better desgin all around.

As for vids, Im sure there are but it doesnt matter. You can watch all the vids you want but the only way to get the moves down or get better is to pratice. There is no trick to it you just have to keep playing.

First off, thanks for replying.

I've picked up some jank accessories from MadCatz before, but I guess I should get my hands on some of their sticks before passing judgment on those. Then again, the TE sticks comes in at around $150, so I guess I am spending a bit on a better-made product (having sanwa parts).

I'm a shoto player, coming from Guilty Gears Accent Core. Getting tired of playing Ken most of the time, and I'm not seeing myself improve in my match ups. Actually feels like I'm button mashing half the time, especially when I can't feel the tips of my thumb anymore from non-stop shuryikens and dragon punches. Also... the shoulder buttons are ackward as hell to use.

I'm interested in playing charge characters though. I know if I go with the inexpensive FS3, that I'll be getting a square gate stick, and that I should be good in the whole "playing charge". Anybody know how easy it is to mod it to an octo?

Its just as easy to change the gate on a hori as it is any other stick. Takes 30 secs once you have the stick open.

Just for the record, me and Rolento have an ancient ball-bustin' tradition over Tekken. I was talking to him because that's the kind of thing we've done since I first met the guy. That said, I'm sure he understood that I was busting his chops. I wasn't trying to turn this into a virtual "who's got the bigger dick" argument.

However, I look forward to the challenge. It will give me reason to play a whole lot and become as good as I used to be. I'm very out of practice because I was not a big fan of Dark Resurrection, plus my local arcade didn't get it right away, so I was not able to practice except if I went to University Pinball. By the time I could take the game seriously (I had money to travel to Philly daily), I was behind the curve. My favorite version of 5 is still 5.1, although that didn't really have a very long arcade life.

That said, Tekken is by FAR the game I take the most seriously, and is my best game. I was very devoted to it, playing in a ton of tournaments and reading up on the game like it was my job. I still have a pretty proud moment in getting matched up with Justin Wong in the first round of regionals, and falling to him the first match, but rallying to win the last 2 and not be dropped to losers. I know that Tekken isn't Justin's main game, but it was still pretty cool and he was a pretty decent player.

I don't believe I'm the best Tekken player in the world, hell I'm 99.9% sure I'm not even the best player in this thread. But I welcome the challenge, from anyone and everyone, and all I can do is play my best and continue to practice. I'm not a pushover. So....

I dunno, I said screw the artbook and cancelled my pre-order at GS. Instead I just went for the Amazon pre-order. From past experience, any free artbook usually is a disappointment.

Actually compared to other fighters I always thought the SC series hasn't evolved much. With that said the first SC was so damn good it didn't need to evolve. Just add 2 or 3 new characters and it's a sequel.

Played Melty Blood the other day. It was fun, and combos were hella easy to pull off even for a first timer like me. My problem was all the characters essentally played the same and the character designs were bland. It was simple but shallow.

I thought the Hastings tournament was last weekend... Maybe this is a different one?

Anyways, I've got SCIV on my PS3, and it plays well enough on an arcade stick, but I see no advantage to using it. I imagine the SFIV fightpad would result in a similar experience. In fact, my instincts tell me the fightpad would be slightly better than the PS3 controller or the arcade stick. The game just doesn't feel like it needs the faster button presses of an arcade stick.

Hit me up if you're up for playing some SCIV this week before the tournament. I'd be down.

more on topic, I've been playing SFA Anthology lately. Apparently I need to beat all the games in the collection to unlock HYPER alpha mode... are there any special conditions for that? Like can I set the game to single rounds and a lower difficulty, and still have it count towards unlocking stuff?

Also if I get a "bad" ending in Alpha 3 does it still count as beating the game? It did unlock Double Upper when I beat regular Alpha 3, but I'm hoping will also count towards unlocking HYPER.

bought 3 ASUS VH236's for tournament play. also incoming to the console room are 5 37" LCD TVs and 2 CRT TVs.

7 tournaments:
thursday-
tvc, sc4
friday-
sf4, brawl
saturday-
bblue, gg:ac
sunday-
halo 3

sf4 and brawl are capped at 128, halo 3 capped to 16 teams, everything else capped at 64.

*sf4, $5 entry fee, 70/20/10 pot split. no venue fee this year.

the rules are sitting in my netbook, waiting to be uploaded when i get home.

i'm trying to secure 2, possibly 3 more xbox 360s for console room use. all i have this year are 360s.

i have 2 questions if anybody wants to answer them:
-is it possible to split the video connection on the 360 and output to a bigger screen as well, for the audience?
-what is the easiest way to unlock characters for all of the 360 systems?

^ It plays more like a traditional fighter, like the first 3 Budokai games. My problem with it was the amount of time it takes to unlock everything. So I cheated and got myself a save file with 100%.
