Blazblue is crazy confusing. I just popped it in, was completely lost and then watched the instructional dvd and became even more lost. I didnt see a mode like SF4 where they have you do all the motions and combos to get you going, is it there and im blind? Overall so far, my impressions are that SF4 is still king by a texas mile.

There is a training mode in the old school since that you beat up on a target dummy. There isn't a training mode like in SFIV. While I I enjoy both games a lot, I think you are right. SFIV will still have a pretty big following years from now, sadly BB not so much.

I finally played it to the end on Hell difficulty and beat the 2 bosses (i always go achievment hunting first), and im pretty good with noel now, can do decent combos and get into a good rhythm with her. Playing on the stock 360 controller is disasterous tho, need my TE stick!!!!

Then i stopped playing cause i got beat by simple tactics too many times, and im not familiar enough with the game to get past them. I go to my Pc, and ive been downloading at the full 7Mb/sec my connection maxes out at the entire time!! Which means i had 0 bandwidth to spare and blazblue was still absolutely perfect online. Unbelievable.

I am having a blast with Blazblue. Overall im doing pretty well, my noel is not a scrub button mashing anymore, ive got some solid combos and mix ups and can punish pretty well. I even got the 3 ranked wins in a row achievement without even realizing it! The next game tho, i played a noel that outclassed me by about 100 times and did combos you see in youtube videos lol. I am not able to pull off stuff like that on a broken 360 d-pad, buddy! Oh and i got my first ragequit, awesome.

Having a great time so far with the game tho, i highly recommend it.

Ribbit King actually kicks ass if you can find it. It looks like a kids game but it actually has some crazy humor in there and the gameplay is great, especially with friends.

Chulip is an older gen PS2 title (read, blue disc) so it kinda shows. It's hard as fuck mainly because since the plot makes no sense at all in terms of linear plot, using logic dosn't work. In fact the game manual has a game guide for the entire game since it's so weird. I used it and am still stuck... very strange game that has ome of the best voice acting ever :lol:

i still don't know why people don't like jwong.

i listened to his interviews and watched the finals match and he's so much more emotional than other players, it's fun to watch. people are like "yeah he jumped out of his seat" but he displays the opposite emotion too, like when he buried his face in his hands when missing an ultra for the win.

he's got cockiness but no more than larry bird or michael jordan who were also amazing to watch.

and in an individual game like a tennis or golf or... fighting games, you need personality if you want it to thrive. because otherwise you have no reason to cheer for (or boo) them. like everyone says umehara daigo is good and all, but what it makes more exciting is the fact that the community has built him up to be some sort of legendary japanese robot that can decisively and easily break you. when was chess most popular in the US? when wacky ol' bobby fischer took up the pieces and created the US-Soviet drama. that's what it's all about.

SFIV sure opened the flood gates, but SRK was going to hell before it came out. The amount of ego some posters have there is insane. Dustloop is kinda going the same way with new players for BB, but that forum has always been antisocal to new people so alot of post just get ignored if they are new posters. Can't say I mind, but how closed off the couminty is has always been why GG tournys are always low.

Eh, I have already said how I feel about Justin in the cag evo thread when two other people started hating. I think alot of people are silly as shit when it comes to him. Same reason I don't understand all the Marn hate, yeah he is a goof, and talks shit back to the crowd but he should, hate the haters.

I never delved too deep into SRK to notice really, just stayed in the techie section for awhile. Kinda like staying in this thread but never venturing to the OTT :-P

i've been checking dustloop and i just go straight to character strategy and guides and videos. matchfinder isn't too hot there.

i remember TZ turning to crap right after T5 came out. T5 General Chat was just straight up crap and the only things worth checking were matchfinder and stickied character forum threads.

but i mean, SRK EVO forums are crap. SF4 forums are crap. FGC is crap. GD is fun but that's GD =) and matchfinder isn't that hot because most of the people that talk there just see each other in the arcade so there isn't a whole lot of conversation anyway.

I don't get the hate either. As a competitive FG player, I respect players like Justin to the fullest. The guy manages to play at a high level in a slew of games and keeps consistent.

Regarding people on this forum that don't regularly post in the FGT whining about Jwong, get over it. Honestly, what did Justin do that isn't new to a tournament setting? Players get hype, players get excited, winning is one thing, but winning in full view of a crowd or a good match brings out excitement. Anyone who has played in a competitive tournament setting with or without your crew around you, knows how hype things can get. Expectations from close friends during your round up, haters shouting things at you, your own high expectations, emotions run high and I wouldn't have it any other way.

When I met my normal group of FG friends/crew, I had entered a tournament they put together at a local arcade. Brought a couple guys from my then (old) crew and there was a lot of hype because we had people in their existing crew wondering who these kids were from a different county taking out all their players. Especially from a county that no one realized had any competitive FG players. I took 3rd in CVS2 that night and as I won my matches (from winners and losers bracket), I was quiet and was able to keep my emotions down as the crowd around us was getting crazy.

Flash to years later when playing a friend of mine at a tourney, big turnout. It was a close match in CVS2 and I scrapped out a win. Not thinking, I climbed up on the CVS2 machine in excitement. Those who knew me laughed and knew it was all in good fun and I had just squeaked out a win. My friend I played against knew I was just letting my emotions out as the match was tense (he was familiar with most of my A-Groove setups) and we shook hands and laughed accordingly.

Emotions run high in ANY tournament setting. I don't fault anyone for letting their emotions get to them as long as it strays away from any (really) personal attacks.

Honestly, I feel the hate comes to Justin because of how good he is and how much of in the spotlight he is. Most randoms on SRK or kids who just randomly play Scrub-level FG know about Wong, about Choi, about Daigo. How many times have random kids who don't really play FG but play games in general talked about the Daigo parry video. These guys are celebrities and are amazing at what they do, so naturally people want to hate (as Markman mentioned).

I've met and seen players do FAR worse in a tournament setting and not get all the hate that many of the "bigger" players get. It's sort of silly.

Anyone from NorCal knows about our very own Cableguy. I've seen this guy at tournaments put his foot in his mouth. His skills are definitely there and he's great at Marvel, but if you think what Jwong did or didn't do at EVO is bad, start going to your local tournies and see what else you hear.

He's representing tournament level play and setting an example of behavior to casual fighting game enthusiasts... and in the event that tournament level fighting game play becomes more mainstream to watch (which I hope it does), his celebratory dances look disrespectful when your opponent is sitting right next to you, simply waiting for the next round... it may not be disrespectful, but it's easy to see why people criticize him for it.

The criticism is not stemming from a deep rooted jealousy or hatred of Wong's skill. I don't think anyone could possibly deny Wong's skill. It's the dynamic of Wong and Daigo together that makes it immediately apparent. Their contrasts and differences (which are really more just differences between American and Japanese tournaments) make it look worse than it actually is.

Justin's in the spotlight for a reason. And he should expect to get all the negativity for his actions that comes with it.

I still don't get it. Things are way worse in the Starcraft scene in Korea, as far as videogames. Justin never provokes anyone unless he knows them (like in I got next) or to fuel an ongoing rivalry like WC vs EC, crew vs Crew, USA vs Japan. In Korea people freakin dance around you when they win.

PS2 version has english translation, a sound test mode that has a huge amount of KoF Themes (Even including things not used in game, such as The Psycho Soldiers band song from KoF 95 on PS1), arranged music, option of 3D or 2D backgrounds, a gallery to look at endings you unlock, and unlockable artwork for 94 through 98. Also includes some combo videos or something that are also unlockable.

The only things XBLA version has that it doesn't, are online, the in-game mode descriptions, and insta-quick loading.

98UM also game with a mini poster, and a bonus disk with low-res XII trailers, and some XII desktop wallpapers on it.

I played about ten or so online matches. Here are some thoughts.

--Finding a match was relatively easy. There don't seem to be many people online, but I still had an easier time finding a match than I usually do with "Street Fighter IV." That's a good thing.

--Even in Ranked Match, you can see who you are about to play. This is ridiculous. This allows people to drop if they see that they're about to play someone with a good record. "Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD ReMix" is the only 2D fighter I've played so far that got this right. The entire player and character selection process in Ranked Match should be double-blind.

--Character selection is not double-blind. This sucks, but not as much as it did in "Street Fighter IV." The 3-on-3 nature of this game and the fact that players can change the order of their fighters somewhat limits the effectiveness of counter selecting. Still, "Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD ReMix" and "BlazBlue" had double-blind character selection. Why doesn't "The King of Fighters XII"?

--Lag in multi-player is an issue. I've had mixed results online. Sometimes I will get a relatively lag-free game, and sometimes it will be almost unplayable. This could seriously limit the game's lifespan for me. Again, "Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD ReMix" is the champ in this area.

--The option to record matches is nice. I've seen a few on YouTube already.

I also messed around in Practice Mode a bit. Here's what I found:

--Overall, the Practice Mode is adequate. However, the Command List and about a third of the options are hidden (you have to hit the right bumper on the options screen--it's not really marked). I was beginning to think the game didn't even have a Command List.

--This game plays brilliantly offline. If you have friends who live near you, this game would make for great all-night gaming sessions*.

* If you have a job or a spouse, though, an all-night gaming session might not be such a good idea.

Got my copy of KOF XII today. I'll be home all day playing so if anyone wants some nice player matches hit me up.

Since I didn't play this in the arcades I went into the game not knowing what to expect. I was shocked that they completly changed Iori's move set. I don't use him but that was a bold move considering he's so damn popular. I will admit I'm a little disapointed in the lack of game modes. And I did get some lag online, but it wasn't too bad.

I love the graphics. The pixels are notible when the camera zooms in, but the animation is so smooth that I'm a little more forgiving torwards it.

Here's my KOFXII review:

It sucks, sike. It's severely lacking.. nothing to do in 1P mode, you'll go through arcade mode in 10 minutes and most likely never play it again. No story, no boss, 5 stages, that's it.. Two more points I want to stress: Iori blows now, his new moveset and outfit are terrible. Instead of purple flames, he has a little gay rainbow nail attack. Also, the game doesn't look as good as I think it should... I tried it with no anti-aliasing, 1xAA, and 3xAA, 1xAA looks the best so far.

Of course, the most important thing is the online, so far it's kind of hit or miss. I had one clean fight and one that was slightly laggy, I'm 2-0 so far. :D

I still think KoF XII is just a transition game... basically its settting up for a good KoF eventually... the fact that most of the work has been to remaking the game engine, the next time around it'll be focused on an actual game.

Quick impressions - I hope SNK patches the netcode soon. I had a couple of matches that were playable, some were not.

Iori blows now, his new moveset and outfit are terrible. Instead of purple flames, he has a little gay rainbow nail attack.

One of the characters in the game I'm disappointed with is Elisabeth's moveset. Feels like she's lacking something. I like her costume though.

KoFXII is my new addiction. I'm getting MvC2... but it and BB will have to fight for the second hand spot behind XII, especially if XII's patch makes it's online BB quality + Team battle Mode.

As a fan of Pixel Art, traditional 2D game techniques, and one being of the belief that "Fighters lost popularity, because they became too convoluted for their own good", XII does exactly what I'd want it to do. It's gameplay is fantastic, if you give it the time to learn the ins and outs. Impact, weight, specific timing, and varying levels of patience and finesse, leading to solid, quick fights, that still feel strategic... it's so full of Win. It's like Garou, but with more friendly, robust combo options.

You can, though I dunno if it's technically allowed. They won't show up on the opponent's screen unless they have the same mod. If you mean characters with changed movesets though, then I dunno.

I said that in the KOF XII thread I made in the 360 forum as well. The animation itself looks great, but the sprites are average compared to the above mentioned titles. A step up from the old KOF sprites yes, but the still images in magazines and online sites looked better than the actual game.

After having my two friends over - who are KOF fanatics - they like the new KOF. Their main complaint much like everyone else is the lack of characters and barebones single player experience. I saw him play some Online and it was flawless till the guy decided to rage quit.

Our local Gamestop had 8+ copies Friday when the came was out and is already down to one, so word has gotten around that Gamestop has gotten the game earlier (our Best Buy didn't have it) and is selling out quickly. However, I think pretty much everyone that wants this game is going to buy it in the first week or two, then sales are going to be pretty bad and we'll all see the game have some pretty low prices in the next month or so. Infact, if you go to Gamestop's website a used copy will run $49.99 - combined with your EDGE card that can be a nice grab.

KoFXII looks solid.... Like Phrost, I can't find a filter that I like. I really dig the gameplay, although I've tried 2 online matches and both were not very smooth. The game also has annoying achievements :(

Who's ready for a "'fun'-at-GameStop" story?

So I was at a Gamestop in a mall this afternoon when I spotted a lone copy of Super Street Fighter II: Revival for the GBA. I ask someone to get it out of the case so I could find out how much it was since it wasn't marked on the front. The guy gets it out and it's $8, so I immediately say "I'll take it". Get up to the register, guy rings it up at $8 and change and I give the guy a twenty(since I didn't want to touch my debit card until I had to). Guy takes it and gives me my change....$1 and change.

"Um...I gave you a twenty."

"I thought you gave me a $10?"

So what happens then is that the guy has to count the money in all of the registers to figure out if there was a $10 discrepancy in their numbers. Of course, they don't find any. I knew I had $21 in cash with me since I bought season 2 part 2 of School Rumble on DVD for $18 after a Best Buy rewards zone gift card. I even called Grand pappy Swim to double-check and make sure he gave me a twenty for some yard work I did.

"I definitely gave you a twenty."

So after standing there at the counter for a half an hour, the guy asks me for my contact info so he can call me after they do their end-of-the-day numbers and let me know if they found the missing $10. He says that they take these kinds of things seriously and said that if they made a mistake, they would try to rectify it by giving me a gift card or putting it towards a pre-order. So I get my game and head over for the Build-a-Bear Workshop(where the rest of my party was) and realized that I didn't get a receipt-so back to GameStop I go and the guy there says that he forgot to give me my receipt back.

Back to Build-a-Bear I go where, after an hour and a half, both SwiMom and her boyfriend's daughter had finally settled on outfits for their bears. After paying and me making a joke about tossing myself off of the upper level and saying it would damage a display car, we head off down the mall. SwiMom's boyfriend stops us at a "electric cigarette" stand to check them out(he's a regular smoker). Not being a smoker, I was leaning against a wall while waiting for them to finish up. I throw on the BlazBlue soundtrack to kill time and after about 10-15 minutes I get a surprise.

The guy from GameStop first went to B-a-B to find me and then went searching for me through the mall. He had found that they were $10 over when they added the numbers for both of the main registers. He explained everything to me and handed me the missing $10. I shook his hand and thanked him for doing that.

He actually went searching through the mall to find me and fix the mistake.

That was unbelievably awesome of him to do that.

And to top it all off, I got a XBL points card today with a $5 gift card at Target in preperation for MAHVEL BABY! What a day! I think that post is going on my CAG blog once I'm done writing this post.:lol::lol::lol:

Watching the SF: Alpha anime. Not bad.

Enjoying KoF XII as well, although I know others aren't. Although KoF XI is probably my all-time favorite KoF, I enjoy the change of pace that KoF XII brings. It's a slow-paced, more old-school fighter. When the connections are good, the online play is a blast. The arcade mode, as many have said, is pretty bland. I also wish it had the color select menu that SF4 and BB have. I dig the changes made to Ralf and Clark (it's interesting to see Ralf lose the backbreaker command throw.) They remind me of 2D Gears of War characters with the way they look lol. Anyway, anyone on here hit me up for some games. I'm down anytime.

There is nothing wrong with expecting the best in gameplay, sound, or graphics in 2009. It is a valid criticism. Also, I don't have a history of complaining here to hear my own voice. When a game makes a selling point of having a graphic overhaul it is completly reasonable to compare it to other games on the market and critique it.

Will I stop playing the game because of it? No. Heck, I downloaded Samurai Shodown II and Garou and they are quite dated visually.

I think some people are not happy with it is because they told us it took 16 months per toon, and this is what we get. We know SNK can do better but they didn't. But I also think RR is right when he said this is a pass over game. ( Or I think it was RR, one of you fucks ) Seems they are just testing the waters with what works , and 13 will be better, or we can hope. The game isn't bad though, but when we have had two back to back hyped fighters this can seem like a let down.

When the camera scales back the sprites look fine, it's when it gets close-up that the pixels get very noticable. Perhaps for XIII they can keep the sprites as is but lock the camera at a more pulled back position. I already think the characters are a little too big for my tastes anyways, especially the bigger characters like Raiden & Goro. Simply massive.

As for the filter I have it at +1. Still I don't see much of a differance.

It went into a crouch? Iunno that sounds weird.. I would just go into practice mode... his ultra is just like every other charge characters.

well on that note, bumped into a guy I saw today who had an EVO bag... apparently by what he is saying most of south florida fighters kinda disappeared a few years ago but SFIV has brought them back out.

He told me of the new hang out where all the south florida crews go. I've got the guy's number and plan on heading out.

I'm pretty happy about this since I've been meaning to rehook up with some lost rivals.

this might actually mean I'll be good at fighters again lol
