Your answer is exactly what I expected. The reason why I asked was because BlazBlue's intensity reminds me of Ninja Gaiden's intensity. Both BB & NG are extreme hyper games where you are constantly switching between attacking and defending. I know attacking and defending go hand in hand with fighting games, but defending in BlazBlue feels more complicated compared to other fighting games due to it being more than just holding "back". Add that to the frantic gameplay and it's not surprising why someone can't get into it. KOFXII's pacing appears more down to earth and deliberate(for a fighting game, at least). It makes perfect sense why you feel the way you do.

We've been maxin and relaxin in the sun, getting all dark and whatnot. On my way down here I decided to check out the Southeast arcade scene. Basically, it doesn't seem like there really is one. So far, I've seen a Strikers 1945 cab, like 5 DDR cabs, some Guitar Hero, and a bunch of old crap like Galaga and Pac-Man. The only fighter I managed to find was Tekken 4, and no one was playing. :(

I'm doin' a little time for my DWI starting tomorrow, so I decided to spend my last free day at Arcade UFO. Played a little MvC2, SFIII, KoF XII (which I really did not enjoy), Tekken 6, and this awesome DJ Max they just got called Technika.

If you ever see a Technika machine, fucking play it. It's an awesome game, and the touchscreen controls are amazingly smooth. They even have the Profile Card available at the arcade, which is so hardcore it hurts.

With Tekken 6 not too far down the line, I need to be a good friend and get a decent controller for my P2, so they won't have to use the default 360 abomination. The fightpads seem like the obvious choice, since I'm not hardcore enough to buy a stick for them, but opinions seem ... mixed to say the least. Is there a general CAG consensus on these?

No idea how good the MC pads are still waiting on a deal for SFIV PC bundle. Though imo you should have at least two sticks for your consoles. Never know when one might mess up, saves you from having any down time from when parts are being shipped. If you play on nothing but pads then no idea.

I like them well enough. They're not quite up to 2nd gen Saturn pad quality but they're miles better than any other pad that has hit the US since, I dunno, 1996. They're passable in fighting games and have proven handy for stuff like Sonic's Sega Genesis Collection and various XBLA games. Don't pay more than retail and I think you'll be satisfied.

If I can get the time off from my jobs, I might head up to PAX with a buddy of mine. Thing is I've never been to Seattle, so we both agreed if we were going we'd stay for a week. There is also a concert I want to go to on Sept 10th, so we'd need stuff to do from Sept 7th-10th.

I've only got Pike Place Market, Space Needle, the concert on the 10th and Scarecrow Video on my list so far :)

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I don't get the impression I'm gonna love the fight-pad, but I'm not so devoted to making my sparring partners comfortable that I'm going to invest in a second stick, so it'll have to do (though LostRoad does make a good point about having a back-up...).

EDIT: They had the Chun Li pad on Amazon for $31 until the moment I decided to buy it, naturally, but the Ken/Ryu pads are still in stock for $40, so it looks like I'm gonna grab one of them.

1. All selectible, but I wouldnt be surprised if you can unlock the boss and nancy.

2. Same as Tekken 5. The "Scenario Mode/Tekken Force" will be the easy way to get stuff.

3. No pref version... some of us are getting it on all systems (like me, but 360 will be later for me)

4. Unknown but prob... MM might know

West Coast Warzone sounds tight, but...

1) I've never been to PAX and it looks fun

2) I've never been to Seattle and it would be nice to get out of my town for a while. My traveling has been sporadic over the past couple years because I've worked at jobs that frown on taking long vacations. Now that I have the time to possibly travel (even within the U.S), I want to take advantage of it.

Triple Hyper Combo.

It uses up as many Hyper gauges as you have, up to three, one for each character. All three characters will come on screen and perform their respective Hypers based on their assigned assist type. For characters with only one Hyper, that's sort of irrelevant, but for characters like Ken, an Anti Air assist will make him perform his Shinryuken whereas his Projectile assist will make him perform a Shoryureppa. A few characters, Rogue and Spiral, even have special Hypers that can only be activated with a THC.

Otherwise, they're not used all that much except for newbies trying to catch you with three beam supers or something. Hyper Canceling (canceling one hyper into the next character's hyper) is generally a better practice.

OTG=Off The Ground

When an opponent is knocked to the ground, there's a small opportunity (depending on the move that knocked them over) by which to continue the combo by hitting them (usually with a CR.LK).

OTG'ing can be prevented by your opponent by them performing a roll maneuvering before hitting the flooring, which allows them to roll to the either side of the screen upon landing and prevent you from OTGing them.

Using Psylocke's Anti Air assist is the easiest way to see this in action. Perform her Anti Air Assist and use your character to CR.LK after the opponent falls to the ground. It'll connect and you can continue a combo. It has to connect while the opponent is motionless on the ground. It will not connect while the opponent is still in falling animation or in rising animation.

No, only the standard stock wired 360 pads will be provided. Unless MarkMan feels generous and donates some fightpads to console tournament. ;)

There are no official PS3 tournaments that I know of. People are always welcome to hold their own tournaments though at console freeplay.

I think most airlines allow one check in luggage and two carry ons, so you can pack the stick in larger luggage or you can carry it on in its box. You should double check with your airline on their policy.

THC's also come out faster than regular supers by quite a bit. So they're good for catching people if they're down to a last character and you want to chip them or catch them on reaction. Also, some THC's are inescapable, like Sentinel/commando/ x since commands super goes up and then comes down the entire screen straight into sentinels and x's supers if you try to superjump, this is probably the biggest reason anyone uses THC's to chip.

i use ken because his combo doesn't require meter. then i can switch to sakura to burn it for dark sakura teleport shenanigans. i also noticed that d.sakura recovers from HK hurricane in the air, so i want to work on some mixup with that. i know if i hit hk or hp afterwards it hits high, but if i land first they usually throw me.

what's this about sak's throw?

i keep hitting snapback when i want to end a guard string with fireball, hahah.

sorry for the newbie question, but how do u do a super in the air after an aircombo in marvel? everytime i try nothing happens. i get to 7 hits then like storm just lets the character drop... i donno how to cancel!

you press the PP when the attack connects

There are vendor tables around the exhibit hall, but selection differs every year so I don't know...

Pink Godzilla carries some import games but mostly a shit-ton of classic games at insanely high prices. Take a look at the map I posted in the other topic, there appears to be another separate vendor area added.

Good job with Mature. I couldn't use her if my life depended on it. Leona is just sick. Her jump HP, crouch HP, (charge down) then up HP combo is extremly easy to pull off and does some heafty damage.

Thanks for the heads up. Definitely want to keep my money away from too much overpriced stuff at PAX, but I'll bite if I see import fighters I don't have/want, or custom 'cade sticks and so forth.

After 200 (well, more like 180) hours of Street Fighter III over in GGPO, I'm finally moving on to keyboard to my first stick: the SFIV Tournament Edition fightstick. Getting it Friday (Seriously, teleporters needs to be invented now so we can get rid of the terrible thing that comes with shipping:WAITING).

I would just like to give a many thanks to the dude who showed me the light of GGPO. Since I've met many "interesting" characters, some I made real good playing buddies.
