Not too long ago my auction sold http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140272101776 on ebay. So I ship out the item in regular bubblewrap and in one of those bubble mailers. Insurance was not purchased and it's acutally mailed out to a PO box. I get this message from the buyer "Hi, I just recieved the item. Thank you. However, the case for fear effect two was completely broken. Please let me know what you can do about this. Thank you." Unfortunately, this is for one of those quadruple CD jewel cases which are hard to come by.

Any thoughts on how I should handle this? If you look at the auction, I sent out the games exactly as shown. Am I responsible for the actions of the USPS? Please advise!

you put in the auction i cannot guarantee USPS, so please add in the optional insurance.
but you could say throw back a few dollars... so they can get a replacement case, but that's up to them where they get it.

probably bet the game is fine.

USPS must have totally abused it, I usually think the quad cases are a bit tougher.

Same thing happened to me a couple months, shipping 3-4 case & manuals for some Dreamcast games. Included with them was the 4-disc case for Shenmue. Shipped them out and got a message after it was delivered that the Shenmue case was completely destroyed(it was in perfect shape when shipped).

No insurance and unlike your buyer, mine was being an ass and demanding a complete refund. Do what I did and buy a pack of single disc jewel cases($1 stores usually sell 4 packs for a dollar). Then take the back part for two of them and send them to him. It might not be exact replacements, but that's what they get when they don't purchase insurance or request specific shipping details.

Insurance is to protect the seller, not the buyer. As the seller you are responsible for getting the item to the buyer in the condition listed. They could file a "Item Not As Described" against you, and will win; which you'd be responsible for refunding the money in whole once they send the package back.

This is why I got insurance the handful of times I have shipped out CD cases into bubble mailers. Nothing happened, but I know if I didn't, those cases would have been smashed to hell.

wait... people are actually sending out those big 2-4 disc jewel cases in a bubble envelope?...its like sending a complete GBA game in a bubble mailer, they are just bound to get damaged since the slightest hit can put a crack in the case

Yeah, it is kind of dangerous. The few times I did, I had a lot of larger bubble mailers lying around, so I was able pad them well.

I agree... you pay the USPS to deliver your item and that's all they'll do. They're not going to make sure it gets there in one shape because they're not responsible for damaged items due to poor packing (unless they pack it themselves). Even if you get insurance, it's a huge hassle to actually get a payout because the USPS has to make sure it's not a scam and they're extremely anal about it. In this case, they would probably say it's not their fault as you didn't pack it sufficiently.

Tough break OP, but you might have to find some cheapo double cased game to try and replace the broken one. Or see if the buyer will take a small refund.

Honestly though, I hate people who send PS1 games (or god forbit, cardboard boxed games like GBA, NES, SNES games) in bubble mailers thinking it'll be well protected. Yeah, it's going to be just fine when that 10 pound box falls on it.

EDIT* Extra bubble wrap wouldn't help at all in this case because that's just more pressure on the cases.. meaning it would take less force to break them.

17 bucks for 5 of them but its the only right way to do it.

atleast you will have backups.
