DO NOT DISCUSS WHERE TO GET HACKS OR ROMS OR HOW TO PATCH ROMS HERE

With that said, has anyone played any good hacks lately - specifically, NES, SNES or GB/GBA?

I am in the middle of playing Zelda - Journey of a Day (Zelda II) and it's pretty good. I love the old school games and I especially love when someone makes an entirely new game based on an existing game - kind of like the second quest in the original Zelda.

I'm thinking about playing Mother 3 now that it has been translated. I also hear that Zelda Parallel Worlds (LttP) is good and I think there are some decent Super Metroid hacks out there. I am not interested in hacks that just do a tile swap or something basic. I'd appreciate some recommendations!

Yeah Mother 3 right now, I can't think of anything interesting... just translations.

Although I'm intrigued by completely new games being made from other games being hacked.

I remember playing this Mario World hack called "Mario's Trip To Hell" or something like that. It was interesting, but it became clear that the hacker lost interest after the first few levels (I think it just repeated the same three stages).

One of the cooler hacks out there has got to be "Ultimate Mortal Kombat Trilogy." For whatever reason the code of the Genesis version of UMK3 was especially prone to hacking, so people reprogrammed it to include every version of every character from every 2D Mortal Kombat. The result is UMKT! The gameplay looks broke as a joke but I'm sure it's quite fun for casual fights:
