Here's the video game software listings from the DFW, LA, SJ, and WA Fry's Ad(s). These prices are valid only for the dates listed in the subject line.
The items listed below are as they appear in the Fry's Ads. If an item is listed as "SJ only", for example, it could still be on sale at other locations (i.e. - San Diego, Sacremento, Austin, Houston, NV, AZ, OR, IL, GA), but it only appeared in the SJ ad. We have noticed that the Dallas Morning News and SJ Mercury News often run very similar ads. Also, the Chicago ads are often similar to the LA Times ads. However, since these ads are not available online, I cannot confirm them.
If anyone knows of a website to view any further ads, please let me know.
Unless otherwise indicated, items below are listed in all four (DFW, LA, SJ, and WA) ads.
Ad updates:
DFW, LA, WA: Fri-Mon, Weds
SJ: Everyday
NOTE! - Sorry, everybody, I was delayed in getting back, so I've returned...but after the Labor Day Sale ended.

Can someone tell me how Frys is able to sell brand new games for $10-$15 dollars less than everybody else and still stay in business? That has got to be more than the retailer's mark up...

Unfortunately, no. There isn't one within 5 states of me in any direction.... but your saying they actually pay less than $39.99 for the games from the distributor? I didn't realize retailer markup was more than $10 per game.

they will probally take a hit on the game hoping you will spend more money in the store

I usually just pricematch somewhere else because it takes bout 20 minutes to get to my frys, but when I do go out there I can never just buy one thing, i always get around 5 games.

I can't answer for San Diego. However, of the ads I checked, LA Times lists Phantom Brave, but OC Register, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, and San Jose Mercury News all list Special Edition.
From what I've seen, most places don't seem to increase the price for the Special Edition. So, I just assumed that Fry's either doesn't care or has priced them both the same.

Is there one?

As far as I know, only Gamestop was offering the free mini art book. It's nothing special. When they say mini, they mean really, really small (it's basically a promotion for the full price strategy guide).
I can't believe they are only selling the SP for $3 less. I was hoping for it to be around $70. Down goes my dreams.

Simple. In business those games/items are called loss leaders. Loss leaders are nice since they get the customer in the store for that item and having all other items especially high margin items will really help boost profits. If anyone has ever bought a $49 game for $29 on release date it can bring a slight bliss to your head, so what happens? You decide to buy something else since you've saved a bundle anyways and for most part you will be spending $10-20 on top of #49 because you feel that you received a good value while fry's gets more money from sellling those almond roca candy bars with a 200% profit margin.

Does anyone know if these prices are good in IL? I went to my local Fry's for the NHL 2K5 deal durring the 2 day sale and it was $19.99. I'm tempted to go back again to see if it is on sale but I hate to keep driving back and forth as they will not give out prices over the phone at my store.

If you purchase today's Chicago Sun-Times, there is a pull-out Fry's ad. The Sun-Times regularly runs the IL Fry's ads all the time. I believe that it is one of the few Chicago-based papers that does this.
And yes, ESPN NHL2K5, NHL2K5 (both PS2 & Xbox) and Wings of War are listed as 13.99, limit one per customer.
The rest:
PS2
Star Ocean 39.99
Phantom Brave 39.99
Street Fighter Ann. 24.99

Pikmin 2 39.99
PC
DOOM 3 37.99

Went out to Fry's for the first time (Manhattan Beach location). That place is CRAZY!!! I had so many games in my hand, but thankfully held out to buying the two I came there for: Phantom Brave and FarCry. Had SF Anniversary in my hand, as well as a $20 Panzer Dragoon Orta (already own one) and $18 Toejam III. Even pondered the Neo Geo Pocket Color w/6 games for $70, but put it all back ::whew::
Phantom Brave says "Special Edition" on the back of the case, but that could just be art. No mention about the soundtrack, and I'm not opening it until I'm ready to play it. Anybody know if the cover art is different for SE? I have a feeling all Phantom Braves released are the same.
As for FarCry, I run a GeForce 4 MX (2.6 gig, 512 meg, etc.). Am I going to be able to run the game? If not, I guess I'll have to upgrade soon or return the game. Same happened with DX: Invisible War, where my card didn't have the required vertex shaders. Would some kind CAGer please let me know, a PM would be preferred. Thanks.

No, there is a difference - the "Special Edition" on the back does indeed signify that it is the SE. The regular edition does not have that on the backside, so there is a very small difference between the two. The case should feel heavier than a normal PS2 game anyway, since the CD is in the inside. :D

Good lord, they are going to sell Burnout 3 for only 35 bucks ? That kicks ass, I was afraid I was going to have to wait a long time before I got a decent deal on that game. Besided the ESPN 2k5 games I haven't got a game at realease in like a year.

Once again, I apologize. But I was delayed in getting back. Here's the updates (the Labor Day ones being a little pointless, but included for the sake of completion).
Sunday update:

$19.99 (SJ-PC): Silent Hill 4: The Room
$23.99 (GBA): Pokemon: Leaf Green, Pokemon: Fire Red
$29.99 (SJ-PS2/XBox): Silent Hill 4: The Room

$69.99 (DFW): GBA SP Console
