I bought a painting at Redd's and took it to the museum figuring that is where this would be done, but there is no such option. I took it to Tom Nook's and he offered a pittance for it. Does that imply that it's fake? I ended up donating it to the museum to see if they would take it and they did gladly. Does that imply that it was real? I'm confused. I'm also out about 3300 bells, but it does look nice in the museum. :)

If the museum accepted the painting, then it was real. Otherwise, Blathers would have had a hissy fit and clearly pointed out that the painting was a forgery.

Well there was a trick in the DS version (not sure if it works in City Folk) where you buy the painting from Redd and then check your catalog with Nook. If the painting is legit, it will be listed in your catalog. If not, then it is a forged painting and you can sell it to Nook before having it appraised (which lowers the value of the painting.)

Hey guys, its been a while since I posted on here. My laptop (primary computer) died, as in, doesn't work anymore, so I need to post this from my wii (though I did buy a spiffy new keyboard at Walmart for 11 bucks). He might only come the same day you found the lamp. When I found my first one, I didn't play at night but I played other nights and never saw him. When I found a second lamp I made sure to play that night and he was there. I picked for him to give me an item and he gave me a stupid violin. Which isn't rare, and I already had one :cry: Maybe it's random what he gives you? There was also an option to refuse a reward. I wonder if he would have given me a rare item then.

FYI, I tend to play most evenings (I'm on the East coast) and tend to check if any gates are open and then, if not, open my gate. All are welcome, though you'll need to add me to your FC list. I do have about 10 people now that seem to have added me, though 4 of them are hollow hearts - what does a hollow heart mean in the friends list?

Note that I'm not a night owl during the work week - I've got to get up pretty early in the morning. If I'm playing on work night it's usually between (very) roughly 8:30 and 9:30, though admittedly I tend to end up staying up later then I should. I expect to have the gate open tonight, so stop on by if you'd like. So Nook's closed for remodeling for the 2nd time on Tuesday. FINE.

Wednesday I had to work 4 different jobs between 10AM and 10PM so I didn't get home until 10:30PM.
Lo and behold, Nook's had been "upgraded" into some bullshit that closes at TEN PM again! Why the HELL would Nintendo do that?!? So I say screw it and just grab some fossils and water my red turnip.

Today I'm playing again and I decide to read the town message board:

"1/7 [YESTERDAY] Today we have a special item in: THE MASTER SWORD! -Nooks"

So I decide to try time-travelling. Not only could I NOT get the Master Sword, but all of my turnips spoiled! God DAMMIT!

i do have to admit though, i think it's at least a little cool how the game does what it can to keep people from time traveling.

as for the 10pm thing. it is kind of an odd thing. i don't really get it. but, if it doesn't bug you, you can always set your town time 1 hour in the future.

I found Wisp tonight and if you pick the option where you say you don't want anything, he goes back into his lamp because he says he can't go home until he grants a wish. So it looks like you can keep the lamp as long as you want to until you're ready for him to grant a wish.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure your turnips will spoil if someone else in your town TT's. I doubt you'll be able to set the clock back to the second the game thinks it should be on either; so regardless, when you start your game up it'll think you TT'd.

Turnips spoiling through TTing isn't new to the series. Although it is a bit picky. As far as Turnip Prices go, who knows, but most of the time it is 100% bullshit. Going from 63 bells to 47 bells in a 1 minute span is crazy. It should never drop below 60 bells, ever. Joan never sells for less than 80, and they should really limit your losses.

No - I went back an hour in time because Nook's was closed when I tried to check the price. I don't know what the price was. I didn't realize that TTing would spoil the turnips. Better to learn the lesson when I had 120 turnips then to learn it when I had 1000, I suppose. Oh well. I'll have to talk to my kids about time traveling - got to make sure they don't do it any more either!

By the way, if anyone looked for me between 8:30 and 9:30 last night like I said I'd be on... sorry about that... I feel asleep. Oops. I woke up late and checked in and found romeo online and paid him a short visit. Saw Angela there as well. Thanks for the axe and the construction hat romeo! Awesome house too. It's amazing how concerned we get over the red turnip when alternatively we can just shake a few non-native fruit trees and get just as much.

The previous users are correct, it's the running that causes the grass to wear away. That being said, what we've found is that turning the game off, back on, and then running over that same patch of grass makes it wear away even more quickly. For a lot of players, they might play one or two rounds of Animal Crossing a day and never see any paths form. Players who switch characters often or play multiple rounds a day may notice their grass disappearing much more quickly.

The good news is that the grass will grow back, albeit slowly. To expedite this process, players will want to plant trees and flowers around their town. Also, as other users have suggested, players will also want to avoid running on the bare spots, which will prevent regrowth. We understand that this can be tricky in commonly traveled areas (near Tom Nook's, ramps, or the player's house for example).

On trees, I have noticed that a tiny bit of snow accumulates around the trunk, and because of the tree you can't destroy that. So if you chop down the tree and dig up the stump you're left with a tiny circle of snow. I thought that tiny bit of snow might magically appear around the trunk as soon as the tree was mature, but no, you have to wait for the snow to accumulate. But if you're patient enough, you could wait for the snow/grass to be there and then chop down and move every tree slightly to the side. Rinse and repeat :rofl:

And I run through trees :lol: I have patches of trees that are surrounded by dirt. There's no way I'd stop running in my town unless I know there are flowers nearby. To me, it's just not worth walking so painfully slow all the time. And I can't imagine it's much fun for visitors to stress over ruining a friend's town either. My town will be dirt for the rest of its life but I've stopped caring. I have every piece of snowman furniture, and my flowers and myself will make it pretty enough 8-)

Yesterday was my first AC-free day since two days after release (the day i got it). Basically I played it every day I owned it until the day I traded it away. That last few weeks were really feeling chore-ish, but I couldn't stop playing because I wanted to finish my perfect town status.

That's always been a problem with the game...you don't want to stop playing out of fear for the penalties, even though you might not be having a fun time. That's why I've always felt "cold turkey" is the best way to stop.

Oddly enough though, I'm having just as much fun reading and posting in this thread.

Go in front of it, and try to chop it like a tree. He should fling it into the fountain then. Only works once per day i think. I havent tried to do it the same day with different axes.

That is why I take it extremely slow when playing this game. I only play with my wife (usually at night) and we aren't going insane planting a million fruit trees to harvest for an hour to sell to Nook or buying a zillion turnips on Sunday to try to make a huge profit. Trying to get everything in the first month of play is what makes the game unfun, IMO.

We just cash in extra fossils, rare fish, etc., when we have them but generally we just talk to our townspeople, design clothes, etc. When it becomes all about getting your house/Nook's/whatever fully upgraded as fast as possible, it doesn't become a game anymore, it becomes work.

i agree with you about trying to beat the game in a month. but i think buying and selling turnips is a ton of fun. and i do tend to buy a lot of turnips.

I got my fountain today. I have enough to donate for the windmill/lighthouse, but I'm not sure that I want either of them. They kind of get in the way since they build them right at the edge (so you can't fish in front of them). And I don't think that rumor about the lighthouse attracting rare fish is true. I fished in another town that had a lighthouse and just caught a bunch of dabs.

what? Each store only has 2 prices a day- before noon, and after noon.

If they have Nook N Go it's possible to get three prices.

Morning price
Afternoon price
Price after midnight (which is the same as the next day's morning price)

But on a Saturday night once it turns Sunday @ midnight, Nook should say the stalk market is closed. Hmm.

You can also get a price after midnight at other stores besides Nook N Go if you stay inside Nook's after it closes. This only works if you have your gate open and have visitors currently in your town and you go there right before it closes. Once your visitors leave, Nook will kick you out if you're in there after closing time.

Haven't been online much lately, but I've still been taking care of my town. Avocado is growing, slowly but surely. I should really start leaving my gate open when I do play, but the times when I've been able to sit down with my Wii have been random at best. Damn you, classes!

Today my Nookington's FINALLY OPENED! HUZZAH! Also, White Turnips were 95 each, so I grabbed 1500. And to top it all off, Points Special Day! I'll probably go back and buy about...40 more Triforces to get Platinum status. I have quite a ways to go for Platinum (Like 8500 points or something). And I'm almost certain a Gold Axe will be coming my way in a few days. So, it's probably the best day in Animal Crossing history for me.

Neighbors dont affect it but I heard Feng Shui good/bad feng can. If you want the axe after a couple days TTing is the only option sadly

That is why I take it extremely slow when playing this game. I only play with my wife (usually at night) and we aren't going insane planting a million fruit trees to harvest for an hour to sell to Nook or buying a zillion turnips on Sunday to try to make a huge profit. Trying to get everything in the first month of play is what makes the game unfun, IMO.

We just cash in extra fossils, rare fish, etc., when we have them but generally we just talk to our townspeople, design clothes, etc. When it becomes all about getting your house/Nook's/whatever fully upgraded as fast as possible, it doesn't become a game anymore, it becomes work.

No kidding. I play pretty much the same way you do...and I'm still paying off the third mortgage. :lol:

i finally got the golden watering can today!!

i immediately went and cut a section of trees to make a flower garden. i grabbed all the flowers around town and brought them in. i haven't set them up for breeding yet, but i will soon. i probably won't put too much effort into it until spring.

my next plan is to do something creative with my tree layout. i've got some pretty fun ideas. but i can't do too much until i get the golden axe. i failed for the 3rd day today. but i'm starting to enjoy the challenge.

He doesn't restock, but ordering stuff from the catalog counts towards your points too. You're better off just ordering the most expensive item in your catalog over and over.

I checked for an open gate and there were none, so I opened mine up. Either I hit that 2 minute window, or I was checking before you opened up, or it was some issue with completing the FC link-up. I'm guessing it might have been the latter because the first thing I did was look in my friends list and there was no heart next to you. So probably what I had to do was try to go out, then cancel, then I probably would have seen a heart next to you, then try to go out again and maybe you would have shown up. A friend and I got the game and I just moved to Florida and he lives in Massachusetts still and we play in game for very short whiles. We'll check out each others house trade a few items and be done.

Chat. Trade/give/get stuff. Sell turnips at others' Nooks when their price is better. Buy stuff at others' Nooks. Import fruits. Chat. Fishing/catch bugs. Chat. Goof around. Chat.

Also you sometimes can have things to do that involve other people or other towns. For instance we had a lost kitty in our town that we needed to take back to my kids' cousin's town. Also the fortune teller gave us a task to get someone from another town to plant exactly two flowers in our town, upon which something good would happen, though whether it would be good for them or us was uncertain. I actually never got to see that carried out, though. Oh well. Come to think of it, that may still be valid. Somebody should come plant two flower in our town. Maybe it still holds true. Also, once you've had a visit or you have visited someone else, you can then send letters to them.

I think my Wii is starting to crap out on me too. AC:CF has frozen on me about 5 or 6 times now. Three of those times I ended up getting Resetti for it.

I'm not hearing a loud noise yet. It's kind of a quiet noise right now (at first I thought it was one of my laptops making the noise), but definitely sounds different than normal disc reading sounds. I got my Wii at launch, so it's long out of warranty now and I don't want to pay to get it fixed either.

I might try the official cleaning kit (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-10u-49-en-15-wii+cleaner-70-2zw3.html) from Play-Asia first to see if that works.

Big thanks to Daisydog for the unknown machine and Romeo for delivering what turned out to be an identical lab bench (presumably I was overdosing on envy when I visited your town and saw yours), plus lab chair, as well as the tips on how to properly plant coconuts, etc, etc. Darkpumpkin - you never took your share of the coconuts? Well, they are still there, so stop in again. Also all that robo furniture from, I think Janet (?), was left. I scooped it up, but I'll share. It's not like I have anywhere to put it anyway. :) Definitely other stuff I'm forgetting.

Speaking of which, I put all that furniture in my Pear WARDROBE. Are all the wardrobes this good? I'm wondering because it's the only one we've seen so far. My youngest son bought it and when we saw that you could store 160 (I think - 16 pages of I believe 10) items in it we all decided we had to have one, so now my other son and I also have one. Must-have item!

I think the big achievement in this game would be getting a gold axe from Serena. It was so much easier to get a golden axe in the original and WW. I'd rather do the delivery chain again than have it be random.

Had a visit last night from Romeo/oemor, Janet/Daisydog and Ash/darkpumpkin. Much fun was had. Thanks for stopping in all! Big thanks to Daisydog for the unknown machine and Romeo for delivering what turned out to be an identical lab bench (presumably I was overdosing on envy when I visited your town and saw yours), plus lab chair, as well as the tips on how to properly plant coconuts, etc, etc. Darkpumpkin - you never took your share of the coconuts? Well, they are still there, so stop in again. Also all that robo furniture from, I think Janet (?), was left. I scooped it up, but I'll share. It's not like I have anywhere to put it anyway. :) Definitely other stuff I'm forgetting.

Speaking of which, I put all that furniture in my Pear WARDROBE. Are all the wardrobes this good? I'm wondering because it's the only one we've seen so far. My youngest son bought it and when we saw that you could store 160 (I think - 16 pages of I believe 10) items in it we all decided we had to have one, so now my other son and I also have one. Must-have item!

I don't get DREs, my Wii reads the disc fine, but AC always seems to freeze in the first 2 minutes. When I start it up again it's just fine. Maybe I just need a new disc.

The fountain takes exactly a week from when they first started telling you about it. And you won't be able to throw the axe in the first day you have it since Tortimer will be there all day.

Thanks everyone! I was starting to think we were never going to get her home. She had to have a temporary ileostomy so she will need some in-home nurses for awhile, but other than that she's amazing. She was only 2 pounds and 7 ounces at birth but is now up to 6 pounds and 5 ounces. Her birth was bittersweet though, as my dad passed away from cancer 4 days afterwards.

That's why Animal Crossing is such a wonderful escape for me. The other night when my fiancee saw me chatting away to some fellow CAG'ers while playing he said, "Never make fun of me for playing WoW again."

The game definitely has same weird name restrictions. I noticed all that when trying to enter CAG names in the comments of my FC list. Offhand I can't remember what was rejected but I remember that most of the rejections seemed pretty odd. Oh well. I love the game.

That's exactly why I haven't donated anything to get my lighthouse/windmill. I don't like the placement of it. If it was one square back, I'd go for it, but I'll just leave my town without a lighthouse or a windmill.

I have yet to go into Gracie's because it is always closed when I'm playing. After the kids are in bed and by the time I think to go to the city it's after 9. I've got to remember to go there first thing one of these days....

Also I saw tonight that my 7 year old actually made 2 good snowmen. He showed me that he has the snowman floor too.

I set up a treasure hunt for them that they had fun with. I buried a bunch of Gyroids and then the extra lab bench that Romeo gave me. So the goal was to find the special item (they didn't know what it was). They each got to dig up 4 items each. Actually I messed up because I think I only buried 6 gyroids, but that was fine because my 7 year old went 2nd and got the lab bench, but thus only got 2 gyroids, which seemed fair to all, and everybody was happy.
