I'm pretty excited for this animal crossing the holidays make a comeback which is nice I read on Amazon.com information on this animal crossing it has this.. "Play at different times of the year to experience different activities, holidays and seasons. And when visiting a friend in another country, experience the holidays native to their culture."
That sounds very interesting if you can do that also if you buy both animal crossing city folk and wii speak at amazon you get it for $75.48 instead of $79.98 not a bad deal I guess if you intend to get both items, but I'm sure other retailers should have specials with AC:CF and wii speak when it comes out..
I plan to order both animal crossing and the wiispeak on amazon plus the $10 towards a game purchase is nice too I can't wait to play this new animal crossing only 21 days to go it's too bad I don't have wifi right now, but I hope to have it by early 2009 when I do I'll be playing brawl and AC:CF with friends like crazy. :bouncy:

They really dropped the ball by not having any motion controls, I mean you can make it optional so those who like playing with more traditional controls can turn it off.
I know some people liked playing with the stylus in Wild World, while others preferred the d-pad. I just like having the option.

^ I agree. You'd think they'd have you walk over to a tree equipped with an Axe, hold A+B and swing to chop it down.
Or something along those lines.
Still, <3 Animal Crossing and I can't wait to get my insane addiction back. :(

More like $10.00, why would you buy it separately when you would be getting Animal Crossing anyway? Just pay $60.00 and get the bundle.

Here you go:
http://wii.ign.com/articles/915/915864p1.html
IGN: Sounds good, but you're also packing WiiSpeak with Animal Crossing, right?
Cammie Dunaway: We are going to do a limited edition bundle with Animal Crossing that will run for $59.99 and will come out on the 16th as well.

Doomed is somewhat right. I couldn't find a bundle on Amazon, and you know those ninjas do how they do.
You could buy both together for $75, which Amazon proudly declared allowed you to save 4.98!

Well I heard rumors that it is going to be exclusive to certain retailers , most likely Gamestop since they mentioned it during a manger conference.
It is strange though that we can't even pre-order it yet, the release date isn't that far away. I wonder how limited this bundle really is going to be?

I'll get this game and enjoy it, but part of me wishes there was a little more to this game. Maybe a more robust city section.

I'm just hoping I can pick this up at TRU, as I have a placeholder set aside for the bundle. Not sure what I will do if the bundle is exclusive to GameStop...

If this Limited edition is $59.99 I hope I'll be able to get it and the release is only a few weeks away I hope there's something announced soon. :bouncy:
There's a theatre in the city for facial expressions I think I wish they included the animal crossing anime that was released in Japan in this as a option to watch once you get all the facial expressions..

So, in the gamecube version you could visit a friends town by bringing your memory card.
What if I go over my friends house? I can't do anything? I can only visit friends town's via WFC?

But what other game can keep you engaged for a year? Besides an MMO, I certainly can't think of any. My wife and I played the first AC for nearly a year (playing a few days every week) and I played AC:WW for around 6 months pretty actively before losing interest.
If you are into this style of game, I can't think of many games that give you the bang for your buck that AC does.
That isn't saying that they couldn't have beefed up the feature set or substantially changed the gameplay, I certainly think they should have, but this iteration will sell like gangbusters just like the rest and I believe it is worth the money.

I think if you own a DS you can use it to put your character into it via download play and then take it to friends house to play also no need for the AC:WW game for it too I think that's how it works..

A year of playtime for $50 is pretty good by my standards. I'm already burnt out on Brawl and it hasn't been a year and I'm more than satisfied from my purchase. Of course, I've never played any Animal Crossing games before, so all the better for me.
On another note, I've seen several locations where the Wii Speak bundle was announced for $59.99 but like others have yet to see anyone offering it up for pre-sale. I'm hoping this isn't a GameStop exclusive...

My roommate is getting this, so I don't need to worry about purchasing it myself. I just don't know if I should play AC again, since like many people have said, you'd get sick of it after a while, and I'm still kinda sick of the GC version. It's been like what, 4 years?

But what other game can keep you engaged for a year?
Ocarina of Time's replays have kept me busy on and off for 7. Link's Awakening for 10. Sonic (pick one) for at least 5, Dungeon Keeper II (make a p2p to play my boyfriend) for 8, and Kirby's Adventure for 13. I have at least 10 other games that have been faithful friends for a LONG ASS TIME. *pets her Intellivision, inherited from her grandmother*
When I get games, I fully intend to keep them and play the living hell out of them (or at least until they fall apart, then I download).
But if you mean new content constantly, then you've got a point. But that's why I have free MMOs.
And people keep comparing it to the GameCube version. I got sick of that in about 3 weeks and gave it back to my roommate. Harvest Moon lasted about 2 days.

It all depends on your tastes. Funny how you mentioned free mmos, all of them bore me within minutes.
I think as gamers some of us have this tendency to finish a game as fast as possible and disover everything ASAP. AC can't be played in this manner. I don't play it every day, or even every week, but the times I do play are fun because I get to see how the little town is adjusting.
I couldn't play it every day though, but that's not a bad thing in my opinion. Basically, avoid the temptation to discover everything in one sitting and you'll like this game more.
I'm not getting this game though. Looks like more of the same, so instead I will play old AC again.

This.
I was probably the only one in my base camp of friends who was playing this after everyone else had gotten rid of it, because I wanted to see if there was anything else to get. I was mistaken, and that was the end of my 4-month AC run.

There was Dōbutsu no Mori for N64 (only in Japan), followed by Dōbutsu no Mori Plus (only in Japan), then that was translated into Animal Crossing that we all know and love, then Nintendo of Japan loved all the new features in the translation and used them in another game, Dōbutsu no Mori e-Plus. Note that even e-Plus has features not in the US version, for example visiting the store after hours and visiting Resetti. There was an excellent article about all of the features not found in Animal Crossing, but a search on "The Google" yeilds nothing. :-( That followed by Animal Crossing: Wild World and Animal Crossing: City Folk leaves us at Animal Crossing +++++, with Dōbutsu no Mori being the first game.

I don't get what I'm so wrong about. Unless you are implying I didn't know there was an N64 version, which I did. Hence why the GC version is sort of like an AC+ version, and then the DS version is basically just a slight extension of that.
You think I'm using the plus signs to denote pure number, when I'm using it to talk about features present in each successful build. Further, from an American standpoint, there are three titles in the series, which is more what I'm getting at. And finally, since this version looks identical to all previous versions, which is just ridiculous.

While I haven't played an Animal Crossing game yet, I'm a little disappointed in the bundle because that was actually a big draw and would have been a good move for Nintendo. I was all over, "Buy Animal Crossing and get Wii Speak for $10!", but $20 kind of feels like a bit of a rip off when I already own a good high quality headset/mic.
But considering I already have placeholders for games at TRU, they already have me hook, line, and sinker. Damn you Nintendo! *shakes fist*

The disparity between AC's potential and reality gets more disconcerting each time they release a "new" game... I hope there is at least MORE now... more fish? more bugs? more stuff to buy? more neighbors? I can has? please?? PLEASE????
but probably not... I haven't had much time to read up on the game, beyond what IGN has posted... if they're any indication, Nintendo is being fairly tight-lipped about the whole thing? Certainly wasn't much there when I looked...

I wonder if Nintendo is dumb enough to make it such that if two people were playing online, and one has WiiSpeak and the other doesn't, that you can't actually send voice messages in-game unless both people have it.
In other words, does the WiiSpeak itself generate the voice messages, or are they filtered through the game's audio? I guess I can't imagine the former being true, but Nintendo does amazingly dumb things sometimes, and I could see this being the case.
^^ Oy, that never occured to me, but, damn, you may be on to something there. Nintendo does do some dumb stuff so it wouldn't surprise me at this point. Did the GC version have loading screens like this one?
And I'm assuming you can't play locally 2 players at a time right? I forget how it worked on GC but I want to say no.
From what I've heard: Due to it originally being an N64 game, the GC version was still small enough to fit the entire game in the GC's RAM, thus resulting in little to no load times.
The GC version didn't support simultaneous local multiplayer, and I haven't heard anything specific about City Folk supporting it, but it does have DS Download Play for "visiting other players' towns," so it might have some sort of simultaneous local mode.

I just read this on GiantBomb: "It seems that the device comes with a software code that can be used to download the "Wii Speak Channel," which can be used to set up chats with other similarly equipped users. The catch is that it's a one-time code, so if you end up picking up a used one, chances are you'll get one without the code or with a code that's already been used."
So now I have a problem. I've always liked typing Micro$oft and $ony because they're soooooo evil and greedy. How can I possibly type Nintendo in a similar, edgy fashion?

Really can't wait for this game to come out this Sunday. When it does it will be epic just like the Gamecube version. I will not say the the DS version was as awesome, but it was still kind of decent. Hopefully they won't convert this game to a game where you're required to play online to have the most fun, but I don't think that will be the case.

oddly enough, even though it's street dated for sunday, the sale was NOT blocked in walmart's computer. so... if you're hurtin' for some AC action, or really wanna get KK's song on Saturday night, start checking walmarts.

I agree with you though that it's annoying to get a new game and then have a whole work week coming up.

If you want to get it early, you can check walmart like someone else here said. I looked at the online stock locator and one place around Columbus, OH has it.
I called one store that was closer and got an indian man on the phone. I asked if he had Animal Crossing in and he said "It does not sell wil Sunday." I felt like being an ass and said "But do you have it in?". And he just kept saying "Sir, we can not sell it until Sunday"
That's my story.

i happened to be at 2 other walmarts today and passed by video games to see if i got lucky or it was widespread... but nobody else had animal crossing out. or wii speak.
i found mine at the eastchase walmart in arlington, TX for those interested in jumping in early.
i played a little bit last night. i knew it LOOKED exactly like all the others, but i was still expecting something new and cool when i started playing. like, maybe the videos didn't do it justice. nope, the videos are dead on. except for a some subtle visual changes and a screwy menu system, there's little to distinguish the wii version from the gamecube version.

Oh well, this time around, I'll be playing it on a 55" HDTV instead of a 25" Sanyo with the GC back then, or a 2" touchscreen.

Argh. My Wal-Mart is always stuck up when it comes to release dates. Even if they can sell it, they won't.
Anyway, seeing the posts here show me that no Wii Speak at Wal-Mart? Damn. Doing a quick search of their site, they have it marked as "Not sold in stores" which may explain it.
Hopefully GS will have the bundles even though they don't even show up on their website.

Well I know for a fact that only certain stores are getting the bundles. From what I'm seeing, the only website I've actually seen them for sale on is Amazon. GS and Wal-Mart have them as sold separate and no bundle listed.

I don't really care to much for the room chat thing ( i forget what it's called), but I will be getting the game. Honestly I'm not into buying all these peripherals for these games that don't use them other then for one game.

It's cheaper to buy the bundle because buying the game ($50) + the Wii Speak ($30) = $80. While the bundle is $70 instead.

Does anybody happen to know if the game that comes in the bundle has a standard barcode on it? Or is it one of those wonderful "not for resale" jobs like they put in other bundles? (Guitar Hero, Warhawk, etc.) I've got the game pre-ordered for my wife at Gamestop, but I know she wants the stupid wii speak thing, and I'm trying to anticipate Gamestop not having the bundle available (although why they wouldn't is beyond me. It makes me think Amazon's bundle is make believe). I'm not paying $30 for the freaking mic, so if neccessary, I'll order the bundle from Amazon, and then return the sealed game with my Gamestop receipt. Anybody know?

I'm a fan of the GC animal crossing and the DS animal crossing was ok, but I got kinda bored of it I didn't like the made up holidays, but the wii animal crossing has the holidays back so that's good.
One thing I liked bout the AC:WW is that I could change the look of the town by putting putting my designs on the floor can you do that on the wii game too if not that's ok..
I plan to get just the game the wiispeak is nice and all, but only games to use it now and in the future is animal crossing and the conduit so if I do get it I'll wait for a sale on wii acessories or some type of coupon..

Supposedly, the game audio is filtered through itself to knock out any in-game sounds. By all intensive purposes, it seems like the mic picks up audio pretty well but I still question whether or not the purchase would actually be $30, much less $20 if you pick up the bundle.
I plan on trying to pick this up at TRU sometime this week, although my local TRU tends to be fairly slow with new releases, so I may not be able to pick it up until later in the week.

Just picked up a copy from Best Buy about an hour ago. It looks almost exactly like AC:WW but with higher rez textures.
I thought my 3 year old daughter might like to play it but then realized/remembered how text heavy the game is. You can navigate the entire game with just the Wiimote which is nice. So she can move her little girl around, but she doesn't want to listen to any of the animals yapping at her.

Correct. I was just playing with someone who doesn't have it and they said they could hear me loud and clear. So even if only one person has it, everyone in the game can hear them.

Well that's good to know.
So I played for like 3 hours already (...::checks into rehab::..) and yeah, it's Animal Crossing. I am liking this better than Wild World. For some reason, WW sounded good on paper but IMO AC doesn't feel like a good PORTABLE game. But again, that's just IMO.
I put Waaaaaaay too much time into the GCN version, and I can see myself doing MORE than WW, but not as much as the original on this. I already went to Animal Crossing's website and printed out November's calendar of events.. so I'm siked!
Here's what I really am liking so far:
-It's Animal Crossing. The gameplay is the same and they pretty much only ADDED. So that's always solid.
-AC was never meant to be a graphical delight, and it still isn't. However, it DOES look pretty nice. I def notice a significant difference between this and the gamecube
-The City def adds something else to do. Even though it's not huge, it gives you a change of scenery and new people to meet 8-)
..And that's really all I was able to do
Is the Island in this game?! I hope so!...anyone know how to get to it? :-s
Not that it's a big deal, but I kind of wished we were able to name the City. It's not a big deal, but it would have been nice.

We got to get the two AC threads merged - I've already pondered this. However, people responded that it appears that the audio is generated through the game, which would include WS voice.

Wish i had a router right now, but I don't. I have oranges (woot!). I am quite frankly very happy with this game, and I agree about the DS version. I couldn't get into it like the GC version. This game I feel relaxed with, like the GC version. Finally our own house again! Hated that part in the DS version. I'm going to have to do a lot of talking with my brother and mom about the items in Tom Nooks. Lol.
I haven't been to the city yet, as I had to finish Toom Nook's jobs, and let my brother play. This game is going to be really fun.
Offtopic: We also got the new Banjo and Kazooie game. I must say that they took forever to deliver another console Banjo and Kazooie game.

We got to get the two AC threads merged - I've already pondered this. However, people responded that it appears that the audio is generated through the game, which would include WS voice.
I'll have to try it later tonight. Just bought the bundle and made it home, but I have to 1) go to the gym and 2) cook dinner, so that ties me up for a while.
yea, i put up the question on the other one. if we should just drop that thread? i figure we'll have one main thread, and one friend code thread (that should be started from scratch).
i can't think of a use for a third one.
and i'd be happy to start up a code thread. but i might not add as much love to it as some people. but i'll definitely be playing this game all year.

I picked up the Wii Speak bundle today - will start up a game later (have to go to son's soccer party now). My kids want to play first, of course, but I guess we'll all have the same town, right? Or can you make multiple ones in this game? In any case, I ought to be free later tonight for any late night CAG's who want to trade fruit or whatever.
Also, and maybe this has been posted but not on the current page (and, literally, I'm out the door now so can't look...), how many blocks does this puppy use?

My Tom Nook was selling a Shovel, Fishing Pole and a Net. All profit making items... Sweet! I remember from the GC version how everyone in the town would get mad at you if you wrote a letter to them. They always wondered what your letter said or was about, lol.
I actually like the city, and I wonder what the Shoe Shine boy will eventually become? Because the city folk said that you didn't have to wait in line... Hmmm. He's also sitting in front of a abandoned place. I bet he'll own that place and own a shoe shine business, lol. So... Pay him his 500.

Just stick with it really, starting over always make me not like the game. Like in Pokemon I start over and start to dislike doing everything over again. Just stick with it. Good:
Very few jaggies, I've seen like two very minor ones.
Seems to be more items (duh)
More stuff to do (city)
USB keyboard support worked the first one I tried
Stays true to ACWW and AC
Changes for the better in Nook's Cranny (3 tools per day)
Bad:
Not that much new as far as I can see
WiiSpeak being $20 or $30
So far it was worth the $50.

My town's not that bad actually. The buildings are all close to each other, and the bridges are very well placed. I have a ton of damn trees though, and no axe. I regret picking the ocean house though. It sucks having to go out of your way just to see a new piece of furniture.
I've already paid off the initial debt, and I'll be getting my upgrade tomorrow. The museum is full of fish, and there's a few bugs. I got my shoes shined, and did a few errands.
The only problem I have with the game, besides the controls, is that you can't just ask for errands. I don't want to have to spend 30 minutes trying to find a job to do.

You get to skip the personality quiz at the beginning of the game, and your catalog at nook's store is transferred into the game. No money transfer, no items. I was kind of sad about it. I have seen a couple of times when the game has referenced that i played AC:WW.
according to gonintendo- you can get your ribbons (from donation), and you can transfer over some of the nintendo items- like the master sword, arwing, etc (not the mario furniture set).
