Best Buy Pre-order Bonuses

I thought I'd create this, in the same vein as the GameStop pre-order bonuses thread.

Best Buy pre-orders usually come in the form of a game case, stating that it's a pre-order for the game. It rings up as $5 ($10 for some games), and usually doesn't contain anything, and you just buy it to reserve your copy of the game. After the game comes out, you can use subtract the price of the pre-order from the game when you buy it. Or, if you don't want the game, you can just get the money you payed for it back. So, these pre-orders are functionally free in the long run.

A number of games, come with special pre-order bonuses inside of the cases. This thread is to catalogue all those freebie bonuses that you can get with game pre-orders.

There'll be a list of them going in the second post.

If anyone wants to a description of pictures that I don't have, feel free to post in this thread. The date next to a title is the street date for that game (usually BB will pull all the pre-orders at that time).

Anyways, I went to BB today, and a grabbed some Fallout 3 pre-orders that I hid (I do this, because mine always tosses them all after the came comes out), and they rang up as a penny :D
I've heard that pre-order bonuses ring up as a penny after the game comes out, but when I tried it with the Deadspace artbook, it still rang up as $5. That might be because I tried the very day it came out, though.

Anyways, if anyone can find some Fallout 3 pre-orders, they're only a penny, so definitely grab them.

The BB pre-order CD has 2 tracks, although there is no detailed track listing. I think some game sites have mentioned the specifics. The first track is the original slow version of the theme, and the second is a longer dancier remix.

I do not believe there is a special edition for sale. The ads in magazines say when you pre-order the game you are upgraded to the speical/limited edition for free.

I think it is like MGS3 subsistence where there was not a limited edition for sale but if you pre-ordered it you got the LE version.

If no one picks them up, Best Buy just tosses them. I usually hide a few of the boxes before the game come out, so I can come back to get them for a penny, and I don't feel bad about this because:
1) After the ones I hide, there's still a ton left for people that actually want to get it as a pre-order, and
2) For every pre-order I hide and get for a penny later, there's 20 that Best Buy just throws in the trash.

Yah whats odd is when I went to my best buy it wasn't with the games stuff. It was on an end isle over by the blu-ray's and Cd's so you may want to check an endcap or just ask

This is what I do. I pre-order the game, get the free item, and just show up to customer service later and ask them to cancel the reserve. So I get the item AND my $5 back! It has worked like 10 times.

However, I'm pretty sure they wont withdraw points, and even if they do points then you can just order your certs before you return the pre-orders.

2) The points will probably stay as pending until you are past the return period (how every other point shows). You could try it since a $5 pre-order turns into a $5 GC...

The only problem with that is you're basically out $100 for at least 30 days. Then you'll probably have to get credit for not picking up the preorder one at a time, so it could be a lengthy process to do it 20 times. But a dedicated CAG could do it! :D

You're essentially exploiting what could be a loophole in the return policy and if they won't allow 20 reserves/returns and deny you after 1-2, then you're SOL and stuck with a bunch of PO's on a game you probably didn't even WANT.

I managed to cancel 5 preorders of MGS4 at a time with no issue, they said it was not a problem if you go after the end date printed on the back of the box.

The manager had to do some override for me to get my money back and they were only able to put it on a gift card.

Actually it is my impression you can wait as long as you want to cancel the preorder at BB. After a certain time period the money would be put on a gift card though (as is what happened in your case). But they should never deny canceling the preorder for you and reimbursing you in some way.

OK, I just wanted to clarify that even though it may be a pain, BB should never deny you your money back on a preorder that was never picked up.

I'm not 100% sure what they do with them, but I've seen several dozen pre-order cases disappear from the shelves after the game comes out, so either employees are taking home tons of them, or they make their way to the dumpsters.

I work for a company that was recently acquired by Best Buy. We mainly focus on re-selling returned product from stores on ebay and best buys online auction site and we normally get boxes FULL of the preorder stuff from best buy. We normally just end up throwing it all away unless it has some good stuff to which we end up just taking the items home.

None of the fine print on the back seems to be about the RW points. So, it appears that you can get the points for just the pre-order. And, according to the BB website, it's 150 points for a $10 cert (https://myrewardzone.bestbuy.com/offerDetails.jspx?offerCode=GO110CERT). So, it looks like buying three of these will get you $50 in certificates. Not bad for a $15 investment.

I kind of doubt it. It's going to be a huge game I'm sure but it doesn't have that Fable/Fallout/Call of Duty hype going on with it. About the biggest thing ever in Lich King BB didn't get pre-orders on the CE's and was first come first serve. I'm torn on the 360 CE though since it comes with "Viper" and she doesn't have the thighs of a Chun-Li or Cammy.

About the biggest thing ever in Lich King BB didn't get pre-orders on the CE's and was first come first serve. I'm torn on the 360 CE though since it comes with "Viper" and she doesn't have the thighs of a Chun-Li or Cammy.

I grabbed one of the FEAR2 pre-orders today. Here's what it says on the front cover:



None of the fine print on the back seems to be about the RW points. So, it appears that you can get the points for just the pre-order. And, according to the BB website, it's 150 points for a $10 cert (https://myrewardzone.bestbuy.com/offerDetails.jspx?offerCode=GO110CERT). So, it looks like buying three of these will get you $50 in certificates. Not bad for a $15 investment.

I don't really think so. 1-888-Bestbuy maybe but I doubt they'd know anything. I'd say call your local store probably two weeks before release and ask to speak to someone in media who really knows games and odds are at that point they'll probably have some idea. Whether they'll get three or thirty though who knows but I can feel confident each store will get some at least. Considering how many stores were still sitting on Halo Legendary editions and GTAIV CE's going into Christmas and a lot of others it wouldn't surprise me to see a lot of stores start getting less of CE's that aren't guaranteed to be gone in a day or two (i.e. WoW).

Ok, the purchase of the pre-order has finally shown up in my account. Under type, it's listed as "earned points" and for description it says "purchase and bonus points." However, it doesn't say the amount of points, ATM, and just says "pending."
I bought the pre-order exactly a month before the game is going to come out, so hopefully the points show up in my account and I can let you all know that it works, before they pull the pre-orders.

EDIT: Durrr, I just noticed a little drop-down arrow next to the entry, and when I click it, it shows "250 pts FEAR 2 game" as being the bonus-point item.

Basically, they show the logo for the Gamer's Club, but you only get 250 Reward Zone points. In otherwords, you buy the preorder, you get your normal 5 dollars in Video Game related purchases for gamers club, you also get 255 reward zone points for buying the preorder (250 as a bonus and 5 for the price you paid for the preorder).

Essentially, you are getting $5 off the price of the game, or you are getting your preorder price refunded.

Gamers Club doesn't have it's own point system, they just simply have a deal where if you spend $150 dollars, they give your RZ account an extra 500 RZ points.

Correct in part. Until you spend a total of $150 on games or otherwise get 500 points, you get nothing through Gamezone. If you buy two pre-orders and they allow you to get credit for both, you should get the $10 certificate as 500 Gamerzone points is the same as 500 RZ points which is $10 either way. If you buy four of them, you get 1000 GZ points which is 1000 RZ points, so you get $20 in certs. It's not a bad deal if you plan on buying the game. If you're just doing this to get the certs, it's not worth it because you are getting only what you put into this deal and essentially buying a $5 Best Buy gift card for $5.

Well, the Resident Evil 5 pre-orders came out pretty recently, and that game is scheduled to launch on March 13th.

Ghostbusters isn't scheduled to launch until June 16th, so my guess is that you wont see pre-orders until about a month beforehand, in May.

I think BB would only refund the pre order with the 1mo card returned. The reason being that there is an actual value for the card at 7.99 The flaming warthog DLC is not worth the $5, they just like to have the deposit of $5 so you can commit to buying the game. You could probably get away with it if you get a dumb cashier to do the return.

The Fear preorder was a standard $5 reward zone coupon. If you want to apply the 5 dollars to something else, there is a good chance you will lose the 250 rewards points because to get your 5 dollars back you have to "return" your preorder, which should automatically remove the rewards points from your account.

We already answered this question a number of pages above. You are getting RZ points since there are no such thing as GZ points. The bonus is in addition to the 5 RZ points and $5 in GZ credit which accrue for the deposit you put down on any game. You are basically getting your $5 back or an additional $5 off the game if you go through with the purchase which would probably be a mistake now that Warner Bros. has it for $36 with their 20% off coupon.

The preorder item was already shipping as I canceled and has arrived, I want to return it...I know you guys addressed this issue sort of in a previous post above me but just want to confirm that I can return this item to best buy and get my $5 bucks back.

PS: I ordered this item online so the receipt I would be using is the one that came with the packaging when it arrived. Does anyone know if you can receive a pre-order bonus like the figure for Red Faction and still price match? I hate how Best Buy usually takes the stance that the bonus for pre-ordering is the "equivalent" of saving $5-10 off the game. I think that's BS, as a pre-order simply guarantees the store that you will purchase it there, not that you will pay full price. Anyone know if this is specified in Best Buy store policy or if it can be successfully argued to get both. I just know Frys will have a lower price, but I wouldn't mind getting the figure as well.

I didn't get an explicit confirmation, but it's on the fake box thing I got, so I should happen. It looks like you have to both preorder and buy it with your Gamerzone thing. It looks like shipping the figure separately lets them use a better figure; I got the SCIV preorder calendar thing, and it was tiny and stuffed in the box. I'm glad the walker figure isn't a little keychain guy in the box.

Also, I pre-ordered it a few weeks ago when they had the "$10 off any video game" special and got Company of Heroes for $10 off. However, for some reason the computer didn't want to apply the discount to a pc game so the dude did it manually and had a a manager approve it, therefore the reciept had no indication that the Halo 3 preorder took the $10 off the game; I did the same deal with Halo Wars but the reciept said "Halo Wars: $29.99 after $10 instant discount", whereas this reciept listed "Halo preorder: $5.00" and "Company of Heroes: $19.99". Ended up taking the pre-order back, but kept the $10 discount. ;)
I assume this only worked because the manager approved it special and the reciept didn't show the discount. Very YMMV. That is, if they ever run that deal again.

however for the buy 1 get 1 half off sale best buy is having now for 360 games, when i am pre ordering am i charged with the full retail price of the game or do i get half off the retail price.

It is the size of an actual vinyl disc sleeve that opens up like a book. Inside there is a DVD sized tray thing (sorry, I'm bad at describing stuff) where you can pop in the game.

It's well constructed from the looks of it. I'll make sure to take a picture once I remember where I put it...

I just stopped by Best Buy and took a look at the Brutal Legends thing. It's pretty nice. It's the right size for a record sleeve, but is made of much thinner cardboard. I didn't take a look inside, but they had a thumbnail of the inside on the back, and it looked really nice; the whole thing was a big, hand-painted illustration I think,

She said I would have to do it online (don't know what the hell she was talking about). if you pre-ordered online it depends on how you asked for the game. in-store pickup or Shipped. shipped woulda went to your house. in-store pickup, they woulda had it where all the lock ups are near the geeksquad/customer service desk. er at least that's where we did online pre-orders that ppl chose to do in-store pickup with. actually better than getting pre-order online since you actually get a copy wrapped in your order label.

FYI - I just came back from the BB in Chicago (Bucktown location). I went to reserve Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and they wouldn't let me take the reservation box. I had to explain to the cashier that the code for the gold weapons was inside the box, that it was the bonus for pre-ordering the game through Best Buy. He called someone else over and the girl said the box stays at the store and I wasn't allowed to take it. I told her the code was inside the box and shook it for her, you can hear that something is inside it. She said she would speak to customer service to see if she's allowed to open the box. I'm listening to her explain it to them and one guy in the back says 'Just let him have the box'. I open it in front of her and show her the code, to which the entire customer service begins to clap and applaud her for being a dumbass.

Every other time I go to Best Buy I run into a situation like this. I hope in the future that Amazon gets the pre-order bonuses I want so I don't have to deal with people like this. If you work at a store, please understand the promotions you are running.

lol my best buy is the total opposite i am sorry everyone that works at my bestbuys know me and think it is crazy how i can come in and grab stacks of guides and 4 prorders all for a few pennies and i do it all the time. sorry to hear yours is like that. hell it says on the box code inside lol
