i just converted an mkv to wmv-hd so it'll be compatible with the 360
i'd wait til the NXE comes out to see if the 360 might support mkv
or you may be better off watching it on the computer
converting videos takes a lot of time...a lot of time

Thanks for the link, I've seen some threads on afterdawn but never thought to explore the whole site, this should help me out.

Quick primer: MKV is a container format that holds data like video, audio, and subtitles. MP4 is also a container format that is less advanced than MKV. MKV is superior than MP4 because it can hold more types of audiovisual data.

You shouldn't "convert" MKV to MP4 unless you're going to use a device that won't play back MKV; however all it takes is demuxing (removing) the streams from the MKV, then muxing (inserting) those same streams into a MP4 container. This is best if the MKV file has some form of MPEG-4 video (e.g. XviD, DivX, H.264) and MP3 audio.

One type of program that mux/demux MKV is MKV Merge.

Yea, I learned that over the hours, thanks for the info.

I was still thinking that I had to convert videos to MP4 for PS3 but I forgot completely about the updates that already extended the PS3's video playback capability :dunce:
