Figured HDTVs would be a popular choice this year with some possible extraordinary deals, so here ya go. I'll be adding more ads as I get them, and I'll be adding model numbers and reviews to the thread as I can.
If ya steal this, at least link back and give credit. That's all I ask for.

I have been following this pretty closely on Slickdeals, so I am glad to have a thread here on CAG as well.
I was really hoping for some better 32" prices, preferably between $300-$400. However, BB, CC, Fry's and other large retailers ads still haven't come out yet.

What a perfect thread. An HDTV is pretty much the only thing I plan on getting this black friday (besides random dvds and maybe a game or two).
Excellent thread, Cochese. Probably my biggest want this year. I'm with budge on the 32" models.

Nice thread -- I'll definitely have an eye on this one, since I really need my own HDTV.
I'll bet that Fry's will have some particularly good Black Friday HDTV deals, but it may not be worth it because people love to camp out at that place.
Literally. Like, tents and shit.

Good job on the thread so far, as I have been wanting to pick up an HDTV this year. I was thinking 32", but might be able to pick up a 37" or 42" for a fairly reasonable price. Hoping <$500.
Although not sure if I want to try and wait until after black friday, I have a feeling the best deals are yet to be seen.

Yeah i guess the samsung 32" is a pretty good deal, $500 is pretty much my limit, i was kind of hoping for at least 37" though.
Thanks for the heads up.
Would you mind including Blu ray players in this thread OP, or should a new thread be made for that?

Hopefully there will be some other vendors besides Sears doing 52" TV's on BF. I remember CC and BB both did some good deals on 52" sets last year, and I'm looking to move upwards to 52" from 37" on my main TV.
$2099 is only $200 off Sears' current price on the LN52A650, and it's not as cheap as some online vendors like Newegg.com with the current day's pricing.
JolietJake
11-07-2008, 11:07 AM
Well i'm seeing some 32" TVs at walmart for less than $500 at normal prices, so i'm guessing those will probably be about $400 on BF. Hopefully i can get a 37" for around $500.

I think you are correct. For example I read that Sony sells special models at Wal-mart. I saw some specs last time and the contrast ratio on the sets on display were low, like 5000:1 and so on.
I wanna buy a 50" 1080p Flat-panel, probably a Panasonic plasma.

Yeah, well that the thing is if I search for Corion Digital Lifestyles, google just spell checks me looking for Corian.
Other then those Newegg reviews, I really don't seem to find much else.
However, I could still get that TV shipped for $580 with a 3 year warranty from SquareTrade. But that only covers if it is broken, but not if it is just a piece of shit.

That 40" samsung lcd at Best Buy looks pretty appealing, but its not the a550, its the a500, a "watered down" model with fewer ports and such according to other discussions on slick deals. Would this be a good buy for $799, or should I look for something a little better? My budget is around $1000 and I want something at least 40" and 1080p.

I was expecting some amazing deals because of the state of the economy, plus I read somewhere that they had gotten the process down (of making the displays) to the cheapest its ever been. I'm very disappointed.

The 40 inch 1080p Samsung sounds awfully tempting. Im a college student and currently running everything off of a 26 inch Samsung TOC monitor that cost me about $600, I kind of wish I could trade this in and spend only $200 more for the 40 inch! haha
If I can muster up some $800 you can guarantee I will not sleep that day and be the first in line for that TV at Best Buy.

What do you guys think of Westinghouse HDTVs? I'm also interested in the 26" one that will be on sale, but I was told by someone that Westinghouse HDTVs are in the lowest tier when it comes to brands, similar to Insignia, Dynex, RCA, etc, with crappy picture quality...
It would be my first HDTV though, so I'm sure any HDTV will look amazing in comparison to my SDTV, but I'm going to have it for awhile so maybe I'm better off spending a bit more for a better brand, I dunno...I'm a college student on a budget so I don't want to spend too much....any advice?

94 out of 100 of the reviews I have read about Dynex where more than good. Great picture quality. And the 6 that had bad stuff to say were 2 that had a defect out of the box, 3 that didn't like the sound and 1 that had it break after 6 months. I personally am going for the 32inch Dynex from best buy. I' just going to spend the extra money on a warranty.

I got the 32" from a couple years ago and it looks pretty good. I also have a 56" Sony for the living room and you can see a difference, but for the price they are good TV's. But you have to go into it knowing that they wont be on the same level as a Sony or Samsung.

I'm looking for some recommendations. I'm looking for an 1080 HDTV, somewhere around 36-42 inches, prefer at least 20k DCR, PC input and I'm willing to spend 1k and slightly over. Also would prefer LCD over Plasma but thats not entirely important.

From personal experience i will never buy another westinghouse ever, i got a 32" last year for 500. The picture quality is ok, but the main problem is that when evenpointing directly at the tv with remote, it barely accepts input form the remote, i thought it was remote at first but then i tried it with the harmony. I have no idea were they put the infrared sensor but that takes away alot from the tv

A question and a possible good deal:
What does 'class' mean when describing a HDTV?
Best buy has a SONY Bravia 52" 1080p (KDL-52V4100)/ with a 80GIG PS3 and standard setup (geek squad) for 1999.97. (You can get the TV by itself for 1800 on their site right now too).

I have a question about online ordering. How does shipping work with an HDTV? Do any of the sites (like NewEgg or 6ave.com) just ship and leave by your door (I hope not)? If they require a signature (which I hope they do), how am I supposed to order online when usually no one is home on weekdays during the day?

It looks like BB has that 32" Samsung available for the same price in the weekly ad (Sunday - Wednesday). Wonder if I can pricematch it at Sears right now for that 10% discount.
Edit: The ones they got at BB right now are model number LN32A300. The ones they are serving up on Black Friday at Sears are LN32A330. BB has these 330s on their website for $600. The difference between the 300 and 330 is the contrast ratio (6000:1 vs 8000:1). I wonder if BB will be selling the 300 or 330s on Black Friday.

(http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9052794&type=product&id=1218012524239&AID=10597222&PID=227502&SID=143165-n-10&URL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bestbuy.com%2Fsite%2Folspage. jsp%3FskuId%3D9052794%26type%3Dproduct%26id%3D1218 012524239&ref=39&loc=01)http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9052794&type=product&id=1218012524239&AID=10597222&PID=227502&SID=143165-n-10&URL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bestbuy.com%2Fsite%2Folspage. jsp%3FskuId%3D9052794%26type%3Dproduct%26id%3D1218 012524239&ref=39&loc=01
With the 30-day price match, I don't have to worry much if it goes cheaper.
Got this today. Love it so far. Easily worth $800. After all, it's a Samsung. :D

Hey everyone. I'm looking at the 42" Sony with the 5.1 system for $1499 (http://www.black-friday.net/bestbuy-ad-scan.html)at Best Buy, but I don't know if it's that great of a deal. Would I be better off getting a separate TV, or is the sound system worth the bundle? I'm looking for something over 40", preferably LCD or plasma. I'd love a sound system, but I don't know if this one is worth it. Thanks for any input.

Says 300 in the ad.
Edit- In fact it's 300 at BB,CC, and Sears, they're all the same.

Best Buy has a 46" Sharp 1080p for $898.
Had it price matched plus 10% at Sears snagged it for $808 plus tax. They wouldn't let me stack the "if you use your sears card you can save an additional 10%" But for $848 after tax it is an amazing deal and will last me until oled lcd drops dramatically.

Best Buy has a 46" Sharp 1080p for $898.
I was looking at this tv, but my friend that just bought his second HDTV swears that you have to have the newer 120 Htz processing or everything will look blurry during action/sports sequences. I noticed that the same TV with the 120 Htz feature is roughly double the price at Best Buy.
Thus, how important is this 120 Htz processing right now? I assume this will be a standard feature on most tvs this time next year, but I'm not sure if it's worth the wait for the prices to come down for something that won't affect my viewing all that much. (I also read in one review that one buyer had problems with "blink out" with playing his 360 on it.)

Sears in Frisco, TX is supposedly starting the Black friday non doorbuster specials today (Wednesday) at 3:00 CST. You can order them to be sent to your local Sears store over the phone, because apparently this might not be at your local Sears, or they might not be participating. You can call Greg at 972-731-3457. Ask to be transferred to the store, then ask for Greg.

Does anybody have a say on the best 32" HDTV deal? Preferibly $400 or less? Do any of them have PIP (picture-in-picture)?
It will be mainly used as a gaming TV for my 360 and PS2, with cable possibly added in the future

Not sure if it was mentioned but just a heads up.
Sam's Club:
Samsung LN40A540 40" 1080p LCD HDTV - $898.00
Samsung LN46A540 46" 1080p LCD HDTV - $1,198.00
Prices have been in effect since Monday Morning. Original Price before money was 1198.00 ( 40" ) and 1498.00 ( 46" ).
Awesome buy on these 2 TV's. They both are the same exact TV besides size.
3 HDMI's
Ultra Clear LCD Panel ( Has a screen like an HP LCD Computer Screen- Amazing Picture Quality, Best I've seen )
35,000 : 1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio
The A550 is #1 on Consumer Reports and from everything I've read the A540 is the better of the 2 models
Just bought one myself. My Sams Club sold 12 of these within 24 hours so if you want one get there ASAP.
Also these TV's are a ton better then the A500 Best Buy and CC have on sale for 799.99 this week. Wayyyyy Better.

So I am kind of confused I havent been paying 100% attention to this, but my gf was looking at getting the $500 32 Samsung at BB. I just checked though, and from hearing you guys, it is already $500 in the store?
So could we essentially go right now and pick one up for $500 rather than wait through hordes of people on Friday?

It's a non-issue. The only thing that matters is the response speed and the resolution. 60-120hz is geared more towards if you plan on using it as a pc monitor. But even then it's a non-issue. i'm loving mine.

The one in stores now is a older model at 6000:1 contrast ratio.
the one on sale on black friday has a 8000:1 contrast ratio.
I actually want that tv too. 720p saumsung 32 lcd right?
Ill be using it as my new computer monitor, and for last gen systems like ps2, xbox, and probably my wii.

Hey Cochese! How you been!
Costco has all sorts of discounts on Sharp TVs, both in store and online. I don't think the deals are the same in store and online, though, because the 42" LCD I'm looking at is $300 off online ($800), but I think there is a "Black Friday" coupon book in Costco stores that has a coupon for only $200 off the same TV in store.
http://www.costco.com/Common/Category.aspx?whse=BC&Ne=5000001&eCat=BC|79|2341&N=4001374+4294967118&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US
In any case, Costco shoppers check for the mailed coupons and in store coupons, there are a bunch of TVs discounted...

BTW i'm looking for a 37'-42' LCD TV 1080p and 120hz between $700-$900. If any one sees one please let me know thanks! I've already seen a couple for the $1100 and hoping they drop more on BF
Same here exactly. I'm targeting the Sharp $300 off 1080p 42" LCD for $800 plus $30 shipping at costco.com, but I'm not sure whether it's 120 hz, haven't checked the specs.

The A540 is nice as well, though. Saw it in person at Sam's when I was scoping out potential buys

this may be the wrong place...
but I think I'm finally making the dive to get an hdtv...
one problem I have is that...I really don't understand refresh rate/ frame rate mechanic (???)...
I tried to read up on it...but things got confusing when this particular article were saying stuff like 1080p/30 is good for gaming but 1080p/24 is much better for movies (maybe I misread the article)...
I was at the store the other day and I checked out a Sharp and Samsung (with simillar specs, 5-6ms response time) and I could see Sharp handling frame rates better for fast paced action scene...however this blu ray demo setup with a samsung was overall the best...
looking into buying
samsung ln40a550
any advice will be much appreciated
also do you think amazon will have better deals on hdtv later?

Thanks man I called one they were sold out I asked them to do a check and one store had 15 in. I got there the price said 1198. I figure that is why there was still some there. They didn't put the right sticker out. I took it up to the checkout to scan and boom 898. Sweet deal. with 3 yr warranty and tax it came to 1030. Thanks for the heads up. Outstanding picture.
