hello,
i have a beasty gaming rig with digital sound output to a dolby digital decoder. i use my pc to play games on a 32" lcd tv. currently i'm playing dead space and i like that game. that game has an option to enable 5.1 output, but all my dolby decoder gets is a stereo signal. i figured out that the signal has to be encoded in dolby digital 5.1 for the sound to work properly. i have a mainboard with a realtek alc889a soundchip onboard, that works well for me. i would like to know if there is a way to convert the 5.1 signal from the game into dolby digital / ac3 on the fly via software.

thanks for reading and maybe posting a solution.

Dolby Digital Live is designed to do exactly what you describe:

However, I don't think your hardware supports it:
