DePaul's pretty badass overall, there's tons of great people and professors here. Classes are a cakewalk too. I go to (and live by) the Lincoln Park campus and its probably one of the the nicest neighborhoods around.

HOWEVER, the school will fuck you out of so much money its disgusting. For example, I applied for housing before my Junior year and DID NOT get a room. Naturally I found an apartment and 2 weeks before I was set to move in, I get a letter saying they found a room for me. So I go in and I'm like "yeah, I already found an apartment b/c I didn't get housing before" and they're like "Oh, ok! There's a $500 room cancellation fee." FIVE HUNDRED FUCKING DOLLARS FOR NOTHING. I was VERY bitter about that for a long time. ARGH. All I can say is ALWAYS read the small print on EVERYTHING.

Tuition per year is just under $20,000, NOT including housing and food and all that. Since I've moved off campus it hasn't been THAT bad, but man, get a scholarship or SOMETHING if you can. Good luck.

It's not the up-front cost that'll get you. Wait until you try to sell that badboy back.

For many books that I a) did not open or b) did not read, you'll get something like <10% of the cost back OR the professor has decided to use a different book OR your brand new book has been updated and is no longer current, in which case you get +$0 and kindling. Not that I condone book burning, but you'll find those worthless books serve little other purpose.

If that's the case...well, I don't quite see how they can stay in business. I think the worst I ever did one semester was spend about $800 on books, and left that semester with about $120 of beer money. Textbook buyback has to be one of the most whoring little industries out there.

If you're strapped for cash, be sure to ask if the books are "required" and whether or not they're available in the library. Worst comes to worst, you can not buy the book, but visit your Profs during office hours to read. You can also go in with others, but then can get ugly during cram sessions. Freshman year you're going to get gouged before you learn the ropes, but come senior year, you'll be a pro.

Reality's Fringe

:( not too encouraging. The problem with library texts is that most of my textbooks come in a "package deal" with like cd rom and workbook and the like, so I'm pretty much bulled into buying them. The bookstore I'm talking about it a university bookstore, by the way, so I don't know if that has some bearing on it.

One of the stores on Ou's campus guarantees a 50% buyback of what you paid for it....but we'll see about that.

I doubt it. I'm sure there's some small print somewhere in it. What store was it?

And, if you don't mind me asking, what are you taking this quarter? Just curious.

It's the one down from Chubb hall. I was just mentioning that because it has a huge sign in the window. It's probably false at anyrate. As for what I'm taking; not much. Econ 103, Hist 123, Poli Sci 102, BA 100
A, and Math 113.

I am currently a senior at Ohio State and will be applying to grad school there in the next month or so.

Also, when i was a freshman i was completely demoralized by bookstores almost to the point where i stopped caring how much they gave me so long as i didnt have to deal with it. But what kind of cheap-ass would i be? so for the last 2 years I have been buying my books at the bookstores for full asking price, then ordering them again online. Insane you say? I use the bookstore's copies until my own much cheaper ones arrive, which is well before the full refund return date, at which time i return my bookstore copies for a full refund. then, when the quarter ends if i find out that the bookstores offer me about what i would make online, i sell them back to the bookstores! i dont let the evil price gouging bookstores demoralize me anymore; instead of them getting my money all the time, i only get theirs! i dont make a profit or anything, but its just so satisfying to know that the bookstores are actually giving me money instead of vice a versa.

tell me, is this solution to my bookstore woes unethical if i always stay within the guidelines of the store's policy?

Graduated from Florida State University, Class of 2003.

Go Noles! :)

I respect FSU everyday of the year save one. Go Gators. FSU spits out some damn good pro players.

As for me I will graduate (hopefully) from University of North Florida with a logistics and busness management degree. And no, UNF isn't like one of those ITT tech wannabe schools. Check it out at www.unf.edu.

Fear the Ospreys. ( I kid :D )
