I've heard the rumors that Lucas has been running with scissors again and has edited the soon to be released Trilogy for the worse. My question is: does anyone have a link to some proof? I can't seem to verify any of the rumors such as editing in Ian Mcdermot as the emporor in ESB and Replacing the actor who played Anakin in Jedi with Hayden Christian's face. All I can find are sites with rumors and links to other stories that are rumors too.

I really don't want this to be true and may cancel my DVD pre-order if this is indeed true.

This was confirmed a long, long time ago (insert obvious joke here). He went through and made a TON of edits.

End scene from ROTJ:

They are not DVD versions of the original film, they are the film "as George Lucas would see them today".

You can head over to thedigitalbits.com and browse around and find numerous similar stories.

I wouldnt have a problem with this if only he would leave us an option for watching the ORIGINAL. I like the idea of blending the films together a bit better, but he is changing history (both real and fake)...and i dont like that.

Although, the quality of these dvd's are amazing...they look, for the most part, like they were made right in sequence with the originals.

Other Edits:
-Some music added/altered
-Han meeting Jabba updated with newer Jabba
-Han shooting first has been cleaned up, but is still altered
-um...a few additions at the end of ROTJ, other than 100% more Hayden

I wouldnt have a problem with this if only he would leave us an option for watching the ORIGINAL.
Why would Lucas do that when he could release them in another box set several years down the road (possibly bundled with Episodes 1, 2, and 3) and make even more money.
The only edit I want to see in this new box set is more scenes of the space battle in RotJ! The battle is great, but we dont see enough of it.

And just think who the actor who played Anakin Skywalker in ROTJ (too lazy to look it up) must feel to end up on the cutting room floor retroactively over 20 years after the film was first released.

So, have they fixed the part where Luke addresses Leia as Carrie?

Yeah old news, hopefully that scene with the young Anakin has had a lot more grain added by now, looks horribly out of place. I'm really just hoping Empire Strikes Back makes it out with the least changes, never cared for the original star wars and Retrun of the Jedi featured the Ewoks too much for me to like it fully.

That sucks. I wouldn't mind them editing it as long as they kept an option of watching the original also.

Despite all the annoying stuff, I imagine I will end up buying this. I don't see anyway to avoid it with my nerd cred in the balance.

even worse - the newest SW rumor:

yoda farts in Ep 3. <--I am NOT joking.

The rumor states that when the Clonetroopers get the order to turn on their Jedi commanders, Yoda slaps dirt all over himself, acts like a blithering muppet (like when we first see him on Degobah in ESB), jumps up on Chewbacca's back, and pretends to be his pet in order to not be killed by the clone troopers.

I know it is absurd - and I didn;t give it any value at first - but it has been given a bit of legitimacy from some "insiders" at TheForce.net. Head over there and hit their forums for more info on this and on the Original trilogy DVD changes; there are some links to pictures from the DVDs.

yeah I hope they do leave ESB alone, but I do kinda wish the would add the Wampa attack on echo base like they orginally wanted. I also don't see any way around getting this dvd set. I could get some bootleg dvds of the original but that doesn't seem right. So I guess the original trilogy will be the only VHS movies I keep for a long time.

I'm still in shock........

Hopefully, 20 years from now he will digitally replace the kid who played anakin in Episode I and all the other bad acting from Episodes I and II.

Come to think of it, if he really wants to make the films better, he could just digitally redux both movies entirely.

Considering that I've never seen the originals (hell, I haven't seen ESB or ROTJ at all), the changes probably won't bother me. I won't notice them.

I know I'm slacking off with my geeky duties, but I'm trying. Really, I am. I've just never gotten around to seeing the movies. At this point, I might as well wait for the DVD release...

to be honest Walrus, he's making it so when people like you watch it from Episode 1:Phantom Menace all the way through Episode 6: Return of the Jedi it will flow better. Music will be in places you would think it should be after watching the prquels, and the video will look MUCH better, so they dont look like they were made 20 years appart.

For me, i dont mind the changes, i just wish they would give us the option of watching the ORIGINAL (my new star Wars thread post disclaimer)

I completely agree - I don't care WHAT he does, just give me the option of the original trilogy that I grew up watching.

If you are going to do that, you might as well just skip Star Wars all together. I bet you'd really enjoy JarJar.

You'd think that he'd be smart enough to just dump it on DVD and make his millions but instead he must alter it for the 3rd time, I bet in another 10 years he is going to remake the movies again showing how it would have been had he real robots and aliens when he made the movie.

The older he gets, the more strange his edits become. It's almost as if he's turning into some crazy old man.
Imagine how wierd his re-editting will be in 10 or 20 years, when hes too senile to know what the hell he's doing and still thinks he's "improving" the movies.
Or it could just be another money making ploy to release the originals in an incredibly expensive boxset that only a fan would buy cause its so damn expensive. - But he knows it will sell millions. As Akbar would say - "it's a trap". Maybe he's an evil genious? - I think he's just crazy.

First of all after seeing that pic with "ani" I will NOT be getting those piece of shit dvd's. I might steal them, but I sure as hell ain't paying money for an altered (for the worst), star wars experience.

Secondly, it pisses me off how so many people hate the changes yet already have the dvd's on preorder at top dollar. Don't you people realize that if you DIDN'T BUY IT that Lucas would HAVE to give us the unedited OT?

Wshakspear

I plan to rent them when they come out, but I'm certainly not going to buy them. I wish I had the kind of setup where I could make DVD's out of old video tapes, because I still have my old Star Wars VHS tapes. If I could do that, then I wouldn't mind buying Lucas's travishamockery of a DVD set.

TheUnsane1

The original trilogy can be found bootleged at most comic/anime cons. I really don't think that Lucas will ever give us the originals again. It could be worse, he could remake them with new actors entirely and rant about how they are superior.

he NEEDS to put the originals on disk...

No he doesn't.

Don't you people realize that if you DIDN'T BUY IT that Lucas would HAVE to give us the unedited OT?

No he wouldn't.

Call it a hunch, but I think he's set financially for the rest of his life at this point, as are whatever children and grandchildren he has. Even if no one buys the DVDs (which isn't going to happen), it's not like it's going to make or break Lucas.

More importantly, though, I've heard that he absolutely loathes the originals. Hell, I've even heard him described as being embarrassed by the original cuts of the movies. Lucas thought that he could improve his work by making changes to it. Clearly, there aren't very many people that agree with him. It's his movie, though, and he's got the right to change it if he wants to. He's happy with the newer versions, so that's going to be what we get for the time being.

There's a chance that we might get the originals released sometime after he dies, but I doubt that it's going to happen. In any case...why complain? Isn't Star Wars with minor changes better than no Star Wars at all?

Can't he leave his works alone already. Most director's try to leave there stuff alone after they complete. Well I'm still getting them anyway since I love the ORIGINALS but wish there was an option to switch between them. I'm also a huge Star Wars fan/nerd/whatever. I pray that he doesn't touch A new hope or Empire Strikes back one bit because those are the best movies of the series IMO. I"m so glad I have my VHS versions. I bet that in 10 years you won't be able to find a copy of the originals in there purest and best form anywhere.

i'm not buying these because it's the same damn thing he did back on vhs. i buy them all indivudally, then buy the set, the buy the special edition set....

you're not fooling me this time lucas! i'll wait for the 8 disc limited edition gold foil super hyper extended unrated directors cut.
