Just wondering, if you saw my post in "When it comes to games parents can suck" thread, but whats the age distro in CAG? Also if you want you can put a rough estimate on how much you spend on games during the past month or few months, years, whatever time frame you want or any other comments about young whippersnappers...

Interesting... I did search for 'age' and 'old' but that didn't come up. I guess my search skills are lacking... but also I asked how much you spend on video games, which is different from that poll which is over 6 months old...

I'm 18. Uh.. this month - well, last month in conjunction with this month I've spent maybe.. . 500 on games/related items. There were a couple things that inflated this price somewhat beyond the average, however. This doesn't include developer support.

That's cool. You could probably make a mint selling those free games on EBay as well, if you're not doing so already =P

I'm 21, about to turn 22 next month. I guess cuz of my parents nagging I think I spend too much on games already. But thanks to TGN and CAG I can get a bunch of games for about $20-$60 a month not including shipping. Thats going to increase drastically this month with UT2k4 and a bunch of hyped Xbox games coming out.

I skew the curve--I'm 31.
I've spent too much on video games in the last two months--for a while there I was buying/renting DVD's a lot, then I got a PS2 for Christmas, and have bought about a game a week since then. Cash out of pocket has been maybe 150-200 bucks, because I've only bought 3 or 4 new release games, bought some games through cheap-ass deals, and had some gift cards/birthday money to spend. But I think I'm caught up now, I need to beat some of the games I already have. I've only beaten BG : DA and CoN so far; probably replay CoN with my wife before too long, but right now i'm in the middle of FFX, just started Dynasty Tactics 2, and am progressing through GTAIII and Simpsons Hit and Run, in addition to a few others that aren't on the top of the list.
Wouldn't seem like all that much, but we're paying off Christmas bills, and my boy goes to a daycare that is kind of expensive [worth it, but expensive], and we just moved in Oct so our house payment went up. I can only play a few hours a day, and that's when all the household duties are done, so you'd think there'd be some self-limiting there. The good news is, there's only a few games coming out that I'm interested in, and I'll probably just rent a few of them, what with the glut of Blockbuster ROGO coupons I'm finding. Although I can always find something in the used section of EB and Gamestop...

im 22, last year i spent around $700 on games and a GBA sp. i consider myself average. i'll only cash out for the really good games, and mostly new releases. but i havnt actually bought a game for myself for about 3 months. bought alot of cheapass deals for friends. most recent games i scored is FF:CC, but i traded 4 games to EB (which cost about 10bucks each) so i broke even. it came with a gba cable though.

I'm 29, and am afraid I spend way too much on games. I pay cash, so I'm not spending beyond my means, but instead of games, I should be spending my money on unfun semi-imortant things, like having my jaw fixed or getting new glasses. But I guess when it comes down to it, I'd rather have a poppy grindy jaw then be gameless.

It would've helped if I read the entire question yesterday, huh? >_<
I don't actually spend a whole lot on games. During the semester, I have almost no time to play, so I guess I buy maybe two games or less each semester. I don't usually buy games at all during winter break, because I usually get two or three games for Christmas. During the summer a lot depends on how much free time and money I have, but if I had to guess I'd say about three games. So as a completely rough estimate, assuming that each game averages about $30 (I buy a mixture of greatest hits and regular games, but I try to focus more on greatest hits to save money. Also, I buy a lot of GBA games), I guess about $150-$180 dollars a year? Actually, that sounds like a high estimate. I ought to try keeping track of exactly how much I spend on games from now on.
Oh yeah, and that's not including video game rentals. I rent games a lot.

For me i can't get as engrossed in a game as I was in HS, I don't know if thats the quality of the games or just my attitude towards it. While I definitely don't play as much as I used to, I spend more on games just to 'have' them in my collection.

I find I can't play a game for as long as I used to, I don't find myself in the trance I was when I was younger. I also buy games just to have them in my collection, many games I want to buy to have them rather than rent them.

Just turned 24, i would say something about my age, but with older players above me, i feel fortunate. I feel that I have been buying a lot of games since Christmas I have purchased about 40-50 games. But only 2 games were in the 20 range. Everything else was less. With net access at work I can get decent deals with CAG and Ebay.

I just turned 25 and I spend on average about $120 a month. It's been really bad so far this year. Steel Battalion, Manhunt, Line of Contact, Ninja Gaiden, MGS:Twin Snakes(pre), Champions of Norrath, dotHack series (3&4), YuGiOh Champ04, a new GBA SP, Crystal Chronicles, Armed and Dangerous. And those are just the games I paid near full price for (minus a bunch of trade-ins that made me feel like I was selling my own children{which I don't have any of fortunately}). I also got deals on PN03, BG&E, some Greatest hits titles and a bunch of hard to find games like RAD. It's a sickness with me. Only time I'm able to stop myself is when the bills are due. I'm a prime candidate for a VGA (video gamers anonymous) help group.

I'm 20 and I probably spend about $75 - $100 a month on games. I also work in the gaming media so I get a lot of free games every month (which I sell on Half.com when I'm done reviewing them), so the money I do spend on games is usually picking up older titles or picking up titles I want but didn't get to review.

To me one of the problems was Xbox owners were hit with a glut of great titles between Oct And Dec last year. Its a shame that a game as great as Prince as Persia got lost in the shuffle. I paid full price for it and that game is a keeper.
I read about the sequel which made me happy and if I'm not mistaken isn't Jerry Bruckhemier signed on for the movie ?

I am 27. I vary on spending. I used to buy second hand games 90 percent of the time, but now that I have been coming here, I'd say I have been buying 75 percent NEW (its nice to buy game without worrying about scratched discs). For example, when Circuit City had that huge sale after Christmas, I ended up getting about 23 (Ps2, GBA, Xbox) games for around $300. I have never spent like that before. I usually try to keep it to about $80 per month unless some really good deals come out, then I might spend more. I don't have as mush time as I would like to play games, but I still like collecting them. I have several games that are still sealed that I hopefully will get around to. Also, I play more Quake III and Star Trek Elite Force than anyting else online and those take a huge chuink of my playing time. Although, I have made time for Prince of Persia (Xbox). That game is great.

I'm 35 now, and I probably spend about $100 per month. This figure can vary significantly based on what (if anything) I find used for cheap in a given month.
I used to buy maybe 90% of my stuff used, but finding deals on new items through this and similar sites have helped me to support new titles a bit more than in the past. Today, I still buy used a lot, but my purchasing split is probably closer to 60% used and 40% thanks primarily to tip-offs on retailer sales, clearance specials, etc. Knowing more about when and where the sales are has helped me to buy more new games than I would ever have imagined just a year or two ago.

Well, I just got my bank statement yesterday, and I can tell by the amount each check I wrote was for, I know which ones were for games, and which were for cash/books/etc. And the grand total I spent on games and game accesories during the time period of Feb. 11-Mar.11 is $383.95. I didn't spend anywhere near that amount before I found this site though. I probably averaged one new release game a month. The large amount is due to the damn Target thread. I've found so many deals at my surrounding Targets that it's hard to pass on them. Though I still have at least 20 unopened games I haven't gotten to because I've been buying so much. Also I've gotten close to a third of that amount back from my friends who I picked up copies of games for. So I really spent around the $250 range, but that's still a too much.

34 here, and the amount I spend per month varies... sometimes it may be as little as $20 depending on what's out there and what my gaming obsession is at any point in time, or it may be up to around $300 or so. This month was particularly costly, with my dreamcast obsession rearing its ugly head again, and the release of The Suffering and Breakdown, and my discovery of that aff25 code at ebgames.com.
But I work full-time and don't have to support any kids, so I do have a little bit of extra cash. What I'm wondering is how the younger folks can afford to spend so much on games each month? I didn't have a lot of excess cash floating around when I was their age due to having to pay rent and not having enough job experience to get a decent job. Have times really changed that much?

I'm 37, with a wife, two kids, and a mortgage. My wife doesn't work, so my check gets stretched pretty thin. So it's tough to figure what I spend on average. I do my best to hold off buying games until they come down in price, and now that I've got a backlog of games waiting to be played (Shortage of time is almost as bad as shortage of money) that's actually gotten a little easier.
I'd guess between the PS2 (mine) and Gamecube (mostly my kids), I bought 15-20 games last year, and will probably get about the same this year. Lots of those will be Greatest Hits games, or bargain bin specials.
