Yeah, if you add KUF to your cart, it magically becomes $40 again. And the free shipping thing seems to be pretty random, too - even if it says you'll get free shipping, half the time you'll still get a charge at the cart. I'm staying away from Outpost for now, the site's annoyed me too damn much.

I had one issue in trying to set up my order, and had to start over again. When I did do it the second time, KUF was in my cart at $26.50 and showed up the same on my confirmation email. I'll definately keep an eye on that, since it probably won't ship until November.
(OT) I stopped in Gamestop last night and they looked up the ship date for KUF and they said it was now listed as November. November what they didn't say.

I ended up ordering 4 games, so the $6.50 shipping charge was split up between the 4 games. That soothed the pain a little bit.

guessed: I'm thinking that was some sarcasm there, but whatever. $10 off isn't an outrageous deal so there was a reasonable chance they could have pulled through on it.
Jimbo504: I'm in the same situation as you, I ordered Star Ocean III and Phantom Brave, and with the Phantom Brave order cancelled the shipping is ridiculous for just one game. I didn't get an e-mail either about the cancellation, so I sent an e-mail requesting my entire order be cancelled (which better happen since SOIII is on back order anyhow). I paid with a VISA so if they try and charge me I'll call up my CC company and have them tell Outpost where to shove it.
All that being said, I'm once again looking for some decent deals on Star Ocean III and Phantom Brave (preferrably limited edition but at this point I may just give up on that). Thanks!

Uggh. That $7 shipping is killer. I still couldn't pass up Silent Hill 4 even with the shipping. I threw in Eddie Murphy: Raw on DVD for $9.99 to make the shipping seem more reasonable since it's for two items. :)

Holy crap! Hoshigami has to be the hardest srpg I've ever played. I mean it took me about 3 or 4 tries just to beat the first couple battles and I'm far from an inexperienced srpg player. I haven't played that much of it but other than the difficulty it seems like a worthy purchase if you like srpg's.

Found another one:
Dead or Alive Ultimate (Xbox) (http://shop1.outpost.com/product/4187553) preorder - $44.99 w/ free shipping (regular 49.99)
Easy question - Will they charge me right away on a Preorder? .
From what I read on the page, they won't charge your card until they ship the item.

I corrected my original post.
The new price is $40 and free shipping. The old price is 35 + shipping (since as I know it was a mistake they made and later they corrected so + about $5) so it is alsmost equal price. I know some gamers are lucky to get $35 +free shipping. The only difference it for people who need to pay tax.

i oredered Burnout 3 and Silent Hill 4. I used 2 day because both games are out and I wanted them fast. Total came out to 66 dolars. Not bad. 33 dollars for each game.
Well Burnout3 is backoreded but SH4 shipped. They charged me the 7 dollars for shipping for the SH4 which is the total shipping for both games. Do you think they are going to charge me another 7 dollars for the next game? If so I will return both games for refund because that is a rip off. I wanted both games shipped at the same time. To charge me 7 for each is ridiculous. I would have went groundshipping if I knew that.
anyone know if they will charge me shipping again for the next game as on the receipt it shows both game with 1 shipping charge and a total of 66 dollars and change? I hope not and if they do I will return both games and cancel all of my orders

I might grab it at this price since it's supposed to be a good action game. Kinda like Dynasty Warriors in space, except better.
Whoa, they got rid of the free shipping on Kingdom Under Fire, but they dropped the price to $23.66! So with shipping it's still a little above their previous price of $26.50, but still not bad at all. Jeez, how much are they going to drop the price of that game? At this rate it'll be free in a month.

Why is it sometime's called Fry's and sometimes Outpost?
Outpost.com used to be an independant company until a few years ago, when Fry's bought them and turned them into their online presence.
If I remember right, the Fry's online site was pretty bad until they changed over to Outpost.

Hmm, that's wierd, I still had a copy of KUF in my cart from earlier when I tested it and it was at 23.66, but now when I add it to my cart it does show up as 39.99...strange. I called them up today (waiting on hold 25 minutes Shocked ) and told them that Kingdom Under Fire was showing on their site at $23.66, versus my pre-order price of $26.50. The guy I spoke with said he was going to do a credit for the difference up-front, so when it ships out, it should charge me for the $26.50, though I'll already have the credit of $2.84 on my card.
That way, they don't have to mess with my order, I get it for $23.66 and I stay in the queue for getting it when they arrive.
And also, this guy had no clue about the phone issues I reported last night, where I couldn't get to them via phone from 10:00-midnight ET last night. He also told me that they're getting in some additional people in to help out with the sales they're offering. Some of the new people hadn't been trained quite right yet, though they're fixing that, to help with some of the customer service issues they're getting.
Bottom line: if you pre-ordered KUF at $26.50, call them and see if they'll do the same for you that they did for me, to get it down to $23.66 net price and not dork up your order.

If you get Fry's ads, you could possibly price match them at a store like Best Buy or Circuit City to get Fable for the listed price in the ad. Like I am. Thankfully, Toys R Us can price match my pre-order to the Fry's ad.

Nah, it's just that I'm not too hyped for the game in the first place, not to mention that I already have way too many games to play at the moment.

This is funny. Everyone got all psyched up about the wild and crazy Outpost deals until the reality hit that Outpost is a shitty place to order from.
I always thought preorders were intended to be a way to guarentee a game at release by allowing a store to make allowances when it orders the games. This is pretty annoying. I knew they'd probably ship a couple days after release, but a week or more is just too long for a preordered game.
$6.50 for crappy shipping is ridiculous BTW. The company they use is absolutely horrible. I was home all day when my Silent Hill 4 was delivered, yet the guy didn't even bother to knock on my door. Instead, he left the package on my doorstep, when it was raining, and I live at the front of an apartment building on a busy street so any number of people could have stolen it. I guess maybe he figured the rain would deter any potential thieves, although it had the side effect of leaving my package soaked. Luckily the game was fine.

Hey, just saw the earlier post about Sims 2 and Burnout 3 keeping you busy. Are yours actually shipping? I've read a ton of merchant reviews that say Outpost puts things on backorder and then cancels them all together so I'm a little worried...
Actually, I didn't get them from Outpost.com. Sorry.

When I pre-ordered SH4 and KUF, I ordered two other games at the same time and piggy-backed the shipment cost into all four games, which was much more bearable than just one.
Outpost uses DHL/Airbone ground service for their cheap shipping, which at least gives you a tracking number, to make some benefit out of the ugly shipping cost.
My SH4 shipped out on Thursday of last week and arrived on Monday, which wasn't terrible. KUF is still listed as having no date of shipment, though since it's not supposed to be out until the 21st, I have time to sit tight and not complain for a while about it.
I do have to gripe about their customer service being pretty bad, partly because they admitted to me over the phone that they didn't have enough people and the new people they're bringing on-board to help haven't had enough training. When I tried calling them on Monday night to ask them a question about KUF, I couldn't get them on the phone at all for the two hours before they closed for the night. Speaking to them on Tuesday, they didn't have a clue of why it didn't work.
I think in the future, I'll only order from them if the price is so low that it's worth the potential hassle. Definitely a learning experience on their service. So far, my order has been OK, though the issues with their customer service concern me some.

I wonder why so few businesses use the plain old postal service. You can ship a PS2 game first class for around $2 with a tracking number, and it will generally be a bit faster than the cheap courier services (UPS ground, etc.) As an added bonus, the postman generally isn't lazy and will leave a package with the apartment office rather than out on the sidewalk.

Heh, well, at least they're honest. Personally I don't mind too much if it takes them an extra week or so to ship something, it's worth saving $15 for it. Just as long as they actually SHIP it and don't cancel it...

Places I've ordered from recently that use the USPS:

Gamestop.com

Here's a tip: if you can't wait to play the game before your shipment comes, just buy it now at any store and KEEP the receipt. Open the game and play it. When your shipment arrived, take that unopened game and your receipt and return it. They all share the same barcode anyway if they are the same game.

I already do that, although not over something so simple as having to wait an extra week. Generally I do it when I can't find a deal AT ALL, so I buy it somewhere with a generous return policy(target or walmart), then return it if I find a better deal later.
Worked out great with Rallisport 2 and Psi-ops. I got them close to release, but ended up paying $24.99 after the GGC because they dropped in price so quick.

I really don't see anything wrong with it. You are just returning the exact same game that you buy from them, same quality sealed intact product. They don't lose a penny at all, and all we earn is the time from waiting for a game to come. (I think this is even more right to do than the Target Raincheck thing or BestBuy Gamer Gift Card, in which they actually lose money or earn less money)

Its not fraud, you are returning the same game in the same condition as when you bought it.
PS. I also do this when I purchase a game and find it cheaper later on within the return period.

what is with all the anti-piracy, anti-fraud people on this site? the smallest opportunity and they start jumping on everyone
Technically, it is fraud: the copy you're returning to them is not the same copy that they sold you. Especially if you get one of those places that has a really generous (like 90 day return) policy on games, for those you could've bought games like Breakdown and Beyond Good and Evil right when they came out, and then 2 months later when they drop down to $20 you could buy it and return it for $50. Morally it's up to the individual, but technically it is illegal.

I think you're missing the point, when we return the game, we are not profiting anything and the store is not losing anything. We get the money that we paid for back and they get the game they sold us back in the same exact condtion. Man, there are too many paranoid goody two shoes people in this site.

playing a game for a few days until your shipment arrives is unfair gain and therefore is fraud, end of topic

The store can lose out. Let's say you buy BG&E for $50 when it is first released. The store paid $30 to the game distributor and stands to make a $20 profit from the sale. You return the item three months later (Toy's R Us has a 90 day return window) when the MSRP falls to $20. The store can resell the item, but would now be doing so at a $10 loss. By taking advantage of these liberal return policies, you cheat the store out of an opportunity to sell the item at the higher price.
Example 2: You buy a newly released game at EBGames that you plan on "returning" in a week or so when your online order comes in. If anticipation for the game is strong enough, odds are this store will sell out of their initial shipment quickly. If someone else comes into EBGames during the following week looking to buy the sold out game you're "holding", EBGames loses out on the sale to another competitor.
So, while your actions may be perfectly legal, they aren't without consequences to the store.

Toys R Us return policy is for 45 days, not 90
And about your scenario, anonymouswhoami. Regardless if you bought the game or not, they will lose money on that refund unless the game was selling out. But assuming such a price drop occurs that quickly, a sell out isn't gonna happen. The store will lose money on that unit even if you didn't do the return scheme

My aunt actually did a price-drop guarantee at Target. If the prodcut drop in price before the return-period, you can actually get the difference back. For Target is 3 months, so if they drop their price within that frame, you can get your money back anyway. So they expected someone to do this.

Toys R Us's return policy has to be more than 45 or 90 days. I bought several GTA3's when they first came out at TRU and played one and tried to sell the others on eBay. I sold them all for profit except 1, so I just kept it on my shelf because I was too lazy to take it back. Then right before GTA:Vice City came out (1 year later) I took it (GTA3) back but only got in store credit instead of cash because I didn't have my receipt anymore. I got off my butt and took it back because I knew once Vice City came out GTA3 would drop in price and I wouldn't get my full money back.
Illegal or not, unethical or not. I usually buy GTA off the internet for about $40+shipping (like the outpost deal $35 +shipping +tax = $44 something) but I know I won't get the game to my house on release day, so on release day I run and buy it at TRU for $49.99 + tax = $54.11 and I get the game on release day. Then when the other one comes in the mail a few days later I take it back to TRU and once I get refunded I end up with having got the game on release day for about $10 less.
I got Fable ($30.99) in the mail today. FYI, I was number 400 something on the preorder list when I ordered on Sept 6. Not too bad a wait.
tubtub
09-20-2004, 09:22 PM
mdenison, the official TRU electronics policy is 45 day return with a receipt. For electronics(games, etc) if you don't have a receipt TRU isn't supposed to take it back. They do make occassional exceptions and will give a gift card without a receipt.
And buying a game at TRU, playing it, then getting one a week later from another store at a cheaper price and returning it to TRU is not illegal. It may be unethical, but it falls under TRUs policy.
And the whole WM return policy thing is unethical also and can be considered fraud, but its not illegal either. Returning a game to WM that you bought elsewhere is just taking advantage of WMs very relaxed return policy. Eventually WM may be forced to change the policy because of people like this, but for now its all part of their policy and they don't know where you really got the game from.
