I got email from gamestop regarding the trade in bonus. Anyone know what the non-HDMI xbox 360 trade in value before the $40 is? Can you remove the harddrive? I was thinking with some bundles on sale for $200 I'd be nice to get at least half the payment with my tradein because my current 360 freezes but has not yet given the RROD.

Someone told me tonight the TIV for the 360 (no hard drive) is now base $80, so that coupon bumps it up to $120. I did a similar thing back when the price drop happened, but I bought my system at Best Buy. Used the TIC at Gamestop for a couple of games.

Thanks, but stupid me just realized that the tradein goes towards gamestop credit not cash so can't really use it to buy a new 360 like I wanted.

Couldn't you just buy a new 360 at Gamestop?

Indeed. Was thinking the same thing.

I thought they only sold used/refurb systems. Checked the website and realized they sell the arcade bundle new for $199. I'm assuming HDMI version. Can I simply take the harddrive off my current 360 and put it in the new one?

Yep, all 360 units now have HDMI. And yes, you can just take the hard drive off and put it on the new console. You'll have to do a license transfer, though, to use any DLC on your new console offline. When signed onto Live with your account, you'll still be able to use it without any issues, but if you're offline or want to use the content with another profile, you'll need to do the transfer.

How much do you get with a wired controller and I would assume the edge card works with bonus 40 right?

Just called and confirmed, with wireless controller it's 80 plus 40 bonus like CODWaW69 said. 120 plus my credit will get me a new, hopefully less problematic 360. Doubt I'll find one without the Liteon drive though :(
Isn't BenQ supposed to have the quietest drives?

Well, I took it in to gamestop to trade it for credit and it stopped working; audio was there but no video. They said I would have to trade it in as a refurb which is a lot less. I didn't bother asking the total because I assume the $40 extra won't apply any more. It's not RROD either so I don't think I can send it to microsoft. This stinks.

Try a different gamestop.

They all test carefully now, I did try another one too. I'll try cleaning the dust off the connectors and so forth otherwise my crapbox 360 is dead.

Yeah, I might towel trick my broken 360, than go to another one and buy another... I hate to be a shady asshole though.

I wonder if towel trick works even if you don't have the RROD. In any case, I don't think I could do that.

The return fee would take the 40$ off and you would be back to 80$.

I'm not a big fan of trying to get one over on companies, but in the case of Microsoft and the 360, I don't mind. I would stick your machine in the hottest room of the house, wrap it in something (please don't burn your place down, though), and let it run and run. Hopefully, you'll get the RRoD without much hassle, and you can send it to Microsoft.

Sorry to keeping bumping this thread which actually doesn't have to do with a deal anymore but I just wanted to say the towel trick didn't work for me. I had already tried it for the heck of it. Maybe it's not the same problem, I just get "no signal" message when connecting to the 360 and tried a few different types of cables so it's not the problem either. But, it does seem to get warm/hot pretty quickly.

Also, refurb negates the 40 extra credit according to one store manager, the deal for $40 extra is only for working systems. I tried saying it turns on and light is green, ie no RROD but was told they still have to send it for repair so it means it's refurb and no extra for tradein.
