Not fake. As was already said, its the machine thats used to work in strip mines and other work requiring massive amounts of land to be dug up. The giant sawblade thing gouges out massive amounts of dirt and rock, which then travels down the machine on a conveyer belt. The second machine behind the larger one is actually part of the larger machine - its more of the converyer belt, and at the end, all the dug up dirt and rocks are dumped into huge-ass dumptrucks.

I was just playing Crimson Skies and noticed one of those big mining saws in one of the levels. It is in the Arixo mine level, which makes sense.

IT'S NOT FAKE DAMNIT!

It was on the discover channel or history channel about 2-3 weeks ago. It is a modern mining machine that digs in strips.

It takes more than two years to build those things if I remember correctly (from the Discovery channel).

wrong...here is a pic that i found, of the NASA mover, you can tell by the wheels (It is used to move Spaceships to the takeoff area)

You're saying its not real because it uses treads? Treads are simply the best (virtually only) choice when dealing with a monster machine like that. A regular wheel would burst under the hundreds of tons of pressure, and a solid wheel would add far too much weight. In addition, with that much weight, you need to have as much surface area on the ground as possible to avoid getting stuck. All of the above make treads the best choice.

If you're saying that the picture is fake because you think it was based on the NASA's shuttle movers, a quick looks reveals the designs to be quite different.

Your arguments here basically boil down to 'it can't be real because its propulsion system vaguely resembles that of another item.' If you conside the fact that pretty much every car on the road have basically the same wheel system (because its the best choice for what's needed), you realize that that's some pretty bad logic.

No...I am saying that it is a photoshopped pic OF the NASA SHUTTLE MOVERS..I was saying you could tell it was the NASA SHUTTLE MOVER because of the TREADS.....not to cause anymore confusion

Im not saying its real or it isn't, it wouldnt surprise me either way, but nobody here established that it was either choice. Just a bunch of guesses that its fake and "I think I saw this on TV" type of talk.

I guess I don't understand your argument. Because it has treads it was photoshopped? Seems like a really weak story to me.

It's very real.

http://www.mining-technology.com/projects/aurora/images/aurora2.jpg

Think of it as a Bucyrus Erie steamshovel on roids. They're called bucket wheel excavators, and as a previous poster mentioned the wheel digs into the earth ans sends the fill to a conveyor belt which travels to the center of the machine, and is redirected to additional conveyor belts or into dump trucks. They are mounted on either tracks or crawlers similar to the ones used to move the space shuttle which is where you can draw the comparison.

seriously stop with the "its fake", "its photoshopped" shit... seriously its not fake. anyone who watched a little bit of discovery channel would see some shit like this... we've got some pretty big/badass machines.... like that dump truck that was posted above.. you cant really tell how big it is without a car next to it, but its freakin huge.
