Hey guys, just got back from my local Tower Records. Apparently the company is no longer selling video games, as their entire inventory is on clearence sale. Some great deals to be found...

XBOX 1st party controllers: $15
PS2 1st party controllers: $12
XBOX DVD remote: $10
wireless dance mats $10

NEW Gamecube $70!!!
GBA (not SP) $50

As for games, a ton of them are on sale for $9.99. Among the ones I remember...

007: Nightfire
007: Everything or Nothing
Balders Gate 2
Castlevania
. Hack #1
Enter The Matrix
Prince of Persia
Rainbow Six 3
Rachet & Clank 2
XIII
TMNT
Metroid Prime
The Thing
SW: KOTOR
SW: Jedi Outcast
Otogi
The Suffering
Driv3r ($30)
GTA double pack (XBOX, $30)

This is certainly exclusive to certain markets, since the manager told me all the stores in the CT area sent their inventory to my local store.

EDIT: Store locator...http://www.towerrecords.com/stores/default.asp

One about an hour away, I think Guessed is on his way right now to check it out since he's out and about.

That Driv3r and GTA Double Pack.. are they 30, or were you saying they normally go for $30 but are on sale for $9.99?

Suffering, TMNT, EoN.. were these XBox or PS2? Any other you remember?

Can someone confirm this?

They are on sale for $29.99 each.

I'm assuming the prices are for all systems. I saw EON for $9.99 on PS2 & XBOX, but they didn't have TMNT and Suffering in stock for PS2.

Eh, not a deal on either. Outpost has Driv3r for 29 and Target has GTA double pack for XBox 27$.. but those Suffering, EoN, Jedi Outcast, KOTOR, and a few others sound VERY interesting.

Actually, there's quite a few in the Chicagoland area and Northwest Suburbs. Use the Store Locator on the Tower website to see if there's one close to you.

I just got back from the Tower Records in Schaumburg, IL, but there was no indication of a 9.99 sale on the game rack, just a few select titles marked down to 19.99. I could have made the cashier ring up a sample game to check it's price, but I neglected to do so.

you're kidding. if you work there, you know who I am ;)

I'm in there all the time asking for stuff that's either on sale or out of print, mainly Dreamcast stuff recently.

had I been home tonight and seen this, I would've hit up Tower, but I was out at Bradfords for beer and wings.

that's the same for me. I remember when they used to have Sega CD, genesis, saturn/PSX games. I might check one near me though just to make sure that they didn't get a surprise shipment or something.

"This is certainly exclusive to certain markets, since the manager told me all the stores in the CT area sent their inventory to my local store."

Since Stamford is the only CT store for Tower, I'm not sure what the manager meant by this statement. Maybe they cleaned out warehouses to that store?

After looking at the store locator, I was kinda surprised by that statement too. Besides a bunch of accessories, there was not 1 game I haven't seen there before. (The reason they never sell is because they are so damn expensive. Def Jam Vendetta & The Hobbit for $49.99 anyone?) My friend asked if they had any more items in the back, since we got there as they were putting out the clearence stickers. The manager told us "No, and in fact, we've been getting shipments from other stores in the area too. This is it."

The sale is not even being advertised as far as I know, so there quite possibly be only a small amount of stores involved in this.

I am totally there. Only one Tower Records in my state and I am glad to live only a 10 minute drive from it. The last time I visited the store, there were a few video games there. But WAY TOO OVERPRICED. So I'll check it out tomorrow when I'm off buying outlet plates in that area. Been cruising for a 2nd xbox controller for friends to play with me.

hit up this Tower about an hour ago, picked up:

Armed & Dangerous (XBox) $10
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II (XBox) $10
Ghost Recon (XBox) $10
Hitman 2 (XBox) $10
Hunter: The Reckoning Redeemer (XBox) $10
Metal Gear Solid: Substance (PS 2) $15 :shock:
Soul Calibur II (XBox) $10
Star Wars: Jedi Academy (XBox) $10

1st party XBox controller S (black) $15
Sony PS 1 s-video cable $7

almost picked up MGS: Twin Snakes (GC) for $20, but couldn't bring myself to spend that much on it. a bunch of games were only for one system or the other (ie. Suffering was only there for PS 2). Rachet and Clank 2 was gone, and I couldn't find 007: Everything Or Nothing for any system. also, I didn't see any first-party PS 2 or GC controllers, but I did notice the brand new $70 GameCubes ;)

thanks for posting this Scahom1, maybe see you at EB one of these days.

If the following are $9.99, I'd love someone to pick them up for the XBox:

TMNT

PoP for all systems for $10.
Monster cables for PS2 and XBOX for $10.

Cube
Skies of Arcadia $15
Metroid Prime $10

PS2
FF X-2 $20
Xenosaga Ep 1 $10
(1) Karaoke Revolution w/ headset $30
Official Sony 8mb Memory Cards $15

and there were many other games. I didnt notice xbox stuff.
I did get Pikmin for $10 original packaging. I guess it shows how old their stock is.
Thanks Scahom1. Great find.

I felt the same way, strange mix of very old games and some new ones, but not many copies of any of them. the pricing also surprised me, w/ some games that I expected to be cheaper marked up, and games like Baldur's Gate II at $10. Metroid Prime for $10 is one hell of a deal, that's for sure!

Buffy (the first one) - a few left

They had a few other titles mixed in which didn't interest me - 007 Nightfire, Hobbit, Turok, etc. Links 2004 was in the bin, but it was marked $20, plus I'm probably going to get TW 2005 in a few weeks so I didn't bother.

For PS2 I saw Maximo: Ghosts (not Army of Zin) and for GC I saw Starfox Adventures. Those are the only ones I remember but they do have other titles in the bin.

As I was grabbing game after game I realized what it must have been like to be one of the fortunate CAGers who got to the $5 CC sale before all the CCs were picked clean. (I was out of town for the 4th when that sale hit.)

Update: Forgot to mention that I picked up Silent Hill 2 as well (last one)

Day 2 at Schaumburg, IL report:

Yesterday the sale was not happening, and today, it's on!

They moved all the games to the back of the store, behind the DVDs, and it seems to me that they got a lot more stock on display. It's a very impressive quantity, especially for a music store.

I picked up:
Myst III Exile (Xbox) 9.99
Soul Caliber II (Xbox) 9.99
No One Lives Forever (PS2) 9.99
The Suffering (Xbox) 9.99
Silent Hill 2 (Xbox) 9.99 -- non-Greatest Hits version!
DDR Ultramix bundle (game + pad) (Xbox) 29.99
Gamecube Grey Wavebird 14.99

There were mostly popular/common games available, but a fair quantity of them were only reduced to 19.99 or 29.99 -- mostly the newer and EA-branded games.

Between the CC sale, the TRU sale, and this sale, I think I ran out of games to buy. Thank god the holiday season is approaching!

Was also at the Schaumburg location tonight... heads up for Chicago CAGers, this is the only place with games (the other Tower Records in the area sent their stock here.) I hit my Tower Records store today. The section wasn"t bad, only about filled up six "racks." The list that flaprabbit posted a few posts up were pretty much there. I picked up about four games (the 5th was the wrong one, I wasn't thinking). My favorite purchase was the DDR Ultramix 1, which I've been wanting. Chronicles of Riddick was like $30, and most of the games were pretty much $9.99. Some 3rd party controllers with xbox and ps2, first party gamecube controllers, ps2 memory cards. All three consoles had about the same sized collection, but it was picked at a bit. No gamecubes or bundles at all.

deathcabforcutie, I got my quasi-ddr bundle (xbox) for $40. A generic pad was $19.99 at GameStop, and the DDR Ultramix game was $19.99 at Tower Records. You just gotta buy separate, cause I never found a ddr xbox bundle at the TRU sale, or anywhere else.

I'm wondering that as well. I'd love to pick up a PS2 copy of PoP for 10 dollars.

Tower Records has consolidated their game clearances to the San Mateo store; for the Bay Area, CA region. Still a good selection of items for all three consoles. Happy Hunting!

Sweet deal. I hit up the Fairfax Tower and picked up (all Xbox and all $10)

Prince of Persia - a few left
The Suffering - got the last one
Freedom Fighters - one left
Otogi - a few left
Armed and Dangerous - got last one
Fallout: BOS - got last one
Buffy (the first one) - a few left

They had a few other titles mixed in which didn't interest me - 007 Nightfire, Hobbit, Turok, etc. Links 2004 was in the bin, but it was marked $20, plus I'm probably going to get TW 2005 in a few weeks so I didn't bother.

They didn't have any first party controllers that I saw. They had some 3rd party Xbox controllers marked at $10. Didn't really look all that closely at them.

Hey Wubb, which Tower in Fairfax, VA did you go to. I went to the one on West Ox Road near route 50. This is what I got:

Ratchet and Clank 2 (PS2) $9.99
Dark Cloud 2 (PS2) $14.99 I was surpised to find this because I haven't seen it any where for a while.
Otogi (Xbox) $9.99
Freedom Fighters (Xbox) $9.99
Prince of Persia (Xbox) $9.99
Splinter Cell (Xbox PH) $9.99

I had to stop because it was starting to get expensive but damn these were some good deals on great games. I passed on LOTR: The Two Towers (Xbox) and GTA:III (GH PS2) both at $9.99. I was going to give GTA:III as a gift for a friend but I rather get him Vice City at BB for $14.99 with GGC.

Wubb, since you are in NOVA also we should inform each other of any CAG deals we come across.

I made out huge tonight at the Tower in Sherman Oaks, CA. The employee was surprised at the prices (especially the PS2/dual shock) as he started ringing everything up, but all prices were marked. I definitely spent way too much but I couldn't resist, this site is really killing me. Here is my haul.

PS2 system $99.99 (last one I think)
PS2 Dual Shock $12.99 (1 emerald green left I think)
PS2 1st party 8mb memory card $14.99 (last one I think)

GCN Ghost Recon-> $9.99 (1 left?)
GCN Animal Crossing (non-PC :shock: Didn't realize non-pc still existed)-> $14.99 (1 left)
GCN Red Faction 2-> $9.99

XBOX Otogi Myth of Demons-> $9.99 (got last one I think)
XBOX Vexx-> $9.99
XBOX Toe Jam & Earl 3-> $9.99
XBOX Spy Hunter 2-> $9.99 (bunch left)

Other games there too, I thought I bought some that it looks like I left. Here is what I remember.

GCN BMX XXX -> $7.99 (bunch left)
GCN Skies of Arcadia Legends-> $19.99 (bunch left)
GCN Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes-> $19.99 (few left)
GCN Legends of Wrestling-> $9.99 (1 left)
GCN True Crime (non-pc)-> $24.99 (bunch left)
GCN Baldur's Gate DA-> $can't remember (1 left)

XBOX Splinter Cell -> $9.99 (few left)
XBOX Driv3r-> $29.99 (few left)
XBOX Spiderman 2-> $34.99 (1 left)
XBOX Full Spectrum Warrior $19.99 or $29.99 can't remember. (2 left?)

There was a bunch of Hobbits for $9.99 but I can't remember what system.
There was a lot more games but thats all I can remember right now, some games are still over MSRP even with there sale price like True Crime.

Hey Nolberto, glad to see another NOVA CAGer. I picked up that last comy of Dark Cloud 2 for $14.99. Thank you for leaving me a copy :D

Also, last night they had one copy of Silent Hill 2 left but it's the PH edition. There's still one copy of Metal Gear Substance for Xbox left. I got the last copy of Slinter Cell (PH), Freedom

Anyway, in my rush to buy games last night and be home before Football started I did not check any of the prices of the controllers or accessories. Wub, mentioned that they had some 3rd party Xbox controllers. I did not see any first party Xbox controllers. But I did not check to see if they had any Sony Dual Shock 2's in stock because I think those are going for $12.99.

Anyway, I'll try to scout out the Tyson's Tower this weekend but I assume that if they had anything it's probably long gone by now.

I went back to the Long Beach, Ca Tower and only found a Metroid Prime, but then the guy told me they had games in the back. So I asked him for several titles and he came back with:

Prince of Persia PS2
Prince of Persia Xbox
Prince of Persia GC (plastic was ripped)
Otogi Xbox
007 Everything or Nothing Xbox
Soul Calibur II Xbox
Skies of Arcadia Legends GC

All of them were $9.99 except for Skies that was $19.99. They also had another PS2 console, but it was shipped defective from another Tower. The guy said he would test it and if it worked then they would sell it open box $99.99. So any Socal people want a PS2 for $100 might want to check it out.

I can confirm these games that he stated.. I went there yesterday after seeing Resident Evil 2 at the movie theater next door. I was mostly looking at the cube games but I do remember seeing NFL2k3, NHL3k3, Agent Under Fire, some Harry Potter games, spy hunter, LOTR?, way too many copies of BMX XXX, Mortal Kombat:DA (Is this any good?) Starfox, metroid , Enter the matrix (I will wait til the PC DVD verison drops in price)Agent under fire, nightfire, Eternal Darkness (picked this one up because of the good reviews and since TRU was selling it for like 17 bucks :P) .. if you look behind that box holder you will find some more games on the shelf ...some of which where games like Rebel Strike, Wario World (is this game good?) , Metal Gear twin snakes (is this game any good?) for about 20 bucks each., and a few other games. to the right of the clearance section of games you will find some accesorries for like 9.99 including a universal stearing wheel , some a/v switch boxes, controllers (3rd party) and a few others... I also saw some wierd PS2 Starter box suposly containing the PS2 and some other goodies for like $280.00! Good greif! Anyways watch out for those employees since like 95% of them are gothic high school freaks (so this is where they go when no other store won't higher them)..I would hate to see what the manager looks like.
Hey put me on the list for NoVA since I live in Chantilly, roughly 10 mins from that store near the movie theater (fairfax towncenter)..btw does anyone know why that movie theater sucks?as in why they didn't bother to show Spiderman 2, Van Helsing, Garfield, Sherk 2, etc?

Although it moviephone.com still calls it United Artist it is slowly externally being transformed into Regal Cinema. Since the "take over" that theater has lost both THX Certified screens, increased its prices, seems to be running by some nerd manager who is picky about what movies to show so hit movies AREN'T SHOWING (this worries me since I get the feeling that Episode 3 MIGHT NOT PLAY THERE or NO MIDNIGHT SHOWING :I) , all to get nice new seats..blah.. err other movie theater NEAR This one? The Centerville one still sucks (sticky floors) Can you PM me an address so I can mapquest it or give me the full name of the theaters near the fairfax towncenter one? thanks

Sadly, still no Going Commando, but I'm very happy with my total haul. LOTR: TT, Gran Turismo 3, PoP, and MP for 40 plus tax. Not bad at all.

Thanks OP!

Nice, did they have any other copies of PoP or MP?

(EDIT: Never mind, just called and they do. Thanks for the heads up!)

No problem. So you're around Fairfax too?

Yep, Falls Church. I'm actually closer to the Tysons store, but it was worth the drive. Strange how they had the two games tucked away in the back...

More like dozens... The guy told me they had 8 copies of PoP in stock.

I thought this thread could use a good bump, because...

I went to my Tower Records today in Schaumburg, IL, and they have a new coupon at the cashiers that read: "$10 off any purchase of $50.00 or more".

Since they still have about 5~6 Gamecubes for 69.99 and 5~6 PS2 bundles (PS2, extra 3rd party controller, Metal Gear Solid 2, cheat device, and controller extender cables) for 149.99, It's a great way to reduce the prices down to 59.99 and 139.99, respectively.

Was it a coupon or a sign promoting the offer?

It's a stack of coupons at the counters. Good until 10/31, I believe.

Games are slim pickings now. I went back recently to my location in Portland to see if I could find anything else. Picked up three games. Except I ran into an employee switch that wasted my time. I bought the last copy of PoP for $9.99 and took it home. The manual and game inside was XIII and it was an obvious reseal. Some employee must have switched the inserts. Lucky for me I found two copies of XIII when I went back, and had a cashier open them. My PoP was in one of them, so I switched inserts and left. No chance in hell that the nice rare games are left. Just a lot of high priced ones or low priced mundane ones like Hobbit and Spy Hunter 2.
