I never played this on GBA so I'm looking forward to it.
I'm out of money so I can't buy it now, but hopefully it will be down at $20 again.
Might put an order in for this and Namco Museum Virtual Arcade. Passed on Namco at $16 for lack of desired filler, but with this, it's still a net -$2. I'll probably just monitor Namco this week for a redrop, as I'd assume KH at $20 should be good for the week.

Wish Square would just bring over both Final Mix games over here. Don't care for the people who don't feel like buying the same game only with an ASSLOAD of extras, sounds good to me even though I already have both. & besides, I haven't seen a PS2 game go above $40 lately so that would just sweeten the deal.
But whatever, waiting for price-drop since this isn't that high on my list.

Its not card-battling in the same way you would play Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon TCG etc., at least the GBA Chains of Memories wasn't like that.
You still move around at free will & you have a "hand" of cards which are basic attack cards & then summons or spell moves, which are activated by pressing B or A (can't remember). Basically, still the same Kingdom Hearts-gameplay limited by the cards you have in your hand instead of how much abuse your right thumb has taken from the button-mashing.

As stated, this isn't like Yugioh or Pokemon. It's more like Baten Kaitos.
They're not so much "cards," as collectible attacks that you organize into decks.

I love Kingdom Hearts. It is my second favorite game of all time next to FFVII.
I honestly couldn't stomach the GBA version of this game. I got near the end and the difficulty just ramped up. I ended up just quitting and I rarely do that.
Unless they changed quite a bit, I would urge everyone to rent this before taking the plunge.

Yeah, debating on whether to get this for my sis (she's a big fan).
Anyways, none of by business, but if you bought Chrono Cross from Amazon.com I would be careful. I've heard the GH versions Amazon sells have a glitch in them; allegedly somewhere on the 2nd disc (I think) the game freezes up and you cannot advance.
I'm pretty sure Square still replaces those discs for you but just thought you should know. I picked mine up used from half.com

From ign.com:
Re: Chain of Memories is really, really hard. I'm sure leveling up Sora makes a difference, but managing a full 3D battlefield while trying to keep track of your deck in real-time can be a real test of your prowess as a gamer. While most fights with normal Heartless and large monsters are manageable, facing off against an Organization member is bordering on insanity. You need to be on the freakin' ball in order to best your cloaked opponents in battle and some later boss fights might actually discourage casual fans from continuing on. Trust me: Re: Chain of Memories is not for the faint of heart. If you're expecting the "button-mashing" of Kingdom Hearts I and II, think again. This game is all about being aware of a real-time battlefield while simultaneously organizing and arranging your cards, tracking numerical values, managing HP and even compensating for cards lost during Sleight use. Be prepared, my friend.

^^^ Difficulty? In this generation of gaming? About time someone broke the trend of easy games.
If the difficulty is like the GBA version, it isn't too bad, once you get enough high-level cards. My standard deck in the GBA version was a 100% offense deck featuring Strike Raid, and that carried me through most of the game. I did get stuck near the end on one of the bosses, where blind attacking no longer worked, and I actually had to use strategy (cancel cards and the 0/27 keyblade ability).
One thing to note is that you should always keep a couple cards of each color and number on hand. That'll save you a lot of frustration when you reach the end.

That view of difficulty is a HUGE exaggeration by IGN. Ninja Gaiden Sigma = F*** hard at the beginning and the end. KH:CoM = as hard as Phoenix Wright. Basically, you just need to do a little more thinking... nothing different than the previous KH games where you strategize how you distribute attributes to Sora... only this time you are doing with cards.

I pre-ordered this along with The Orange Box (360)...I have lost a total of $15 because Amazon no longer does price adjustment on their own items. I'm writing them an email right now basically telling them that I won't be pre-ordering from them anymore. I'm sure it won't mean much to them unless everyone else here are like me and stop doing pre-orders.
Does anyone know which "reason" I can choose so that I don't have to pay for the return postage?

The only way you don't pay for shipping on a return is if they sent you the wrong item or the item is damaged. Otherwise, they'll bill you the shipping cost. Given you place the order and it says what should have come on the invoice, you're going to lose about $5 on the return.
I admit, price changes have happened to me, too (mostly on books) but I love Amazon :-) Time I save is easily worth the little extra they may get from me.

However, this dropping $10 right after launch and Eternal Poison going for half price - along with my preorder of the Persona 4 guide not shipping till frickin' January for some reason - means that I'm cancelling my P4 order right now.

How about the GBA version. Is it worth picking up? I haven't played any of the KH games. I actually have more time to play RPGs on my DS then on my PS2, so the GBA version is more appealing to me. I just don't get a lot of time to play console games. I have much more time to play portable games due to train/bus ride to/from work.
CoM is absurdly easy if you fill your deck with attack cards/cloud cards. Throw in a few healing cards for good measure. It's a button masher all the way through, and I love it.
The IGN review is laughable, but not for that reason. I can see how someone would have trouble if they relied on the wrong cards.
I wonder if this comes with the free postcards...

Personally it's my favorite in the series in terms of gameplay (story in 2 was better)...but I played the original, which leads to:
From the comments and that IGN review that was posted-it sounds like this version wouldn't be as good as the original. Changing it to 3D is a big mistake. The combat system in the original is a LOT stronger than KH 2 IMO, let alone 1.
Earlier this week. It's slightly harder than the GBA version, but because it's in 3D, much better experience.
That doesn't follow at all. Being 3D doesn't make something better, and in this case I'd be shocked if it's not significantly worse.

Huh? 1) Why would we want hard games? And 2) We already HAVE tons of hard games. Most games are probably too hard, or at least have difficulty settings and can be made way too hard if that's what you want.

Fine. I'll elaborate! :) The cutscenes, voice acting, quality of music and the third dimension adds greater depth to the game. I feel the overall storyline is better executed (and feels "less lonely") than the GBA version because they have more to work with than they did in 2D.

The presentation stuff sounds good, but the gameplay I expect I'd like a lot less, given that the GBA game was the most fun to me in terms of gameplay.

I prefer easier games these days as opposed to ridiculously hard old school games with countless cheap deaths. I have work and school to worry about and don't wanna spend all day playing the same thing. I just want to have fun, I don't need the huge sense of achievement that I beat a difficult game many can't beat.
This is getting off topic guys.
I didn't even know they made a PS2 remake of CoM until like 2 days ago. Since I saw it at Amazon yesterday for $20, I caved and will try it. I'm skeptical about card games though. I didn't like Metal Gear Acid for this reason.

Also, I've only gotten as far as the second world in the game, but apparently, a bunch of stuff was added in this version that was not in the GBA version. To quote tommylink, a very helpful member of the playstation forum:
"A lot of new things in this game, next to the plants, like angel statues will attack you in Hercules. And then there are things like clocks that can be hit that cast stop on the heartless before you enter battle with them. It's not in the GBA game. 3d [has] lots of new stuff."
