The deal is dead now...sorry guys
Amazon.com has an awesome deal right now. Buy the Samsung BDP1500 and 8 blu rays and get $200 off at checkout. The selection of blu rays is actually really good in my opinion, and they arent overpriced either. Depending on which blu rays you pick, your total at checkout could be even less!! And you also get a $5 mp3 credit for use on amazon.com, and a free 1 yr subscription to wired, which if you dont want to receive you can submit to get an $8 rebate in lieu of the subscription.
I ended up walking away with:
-Samsung BDP-1500
-Blazing Saddles
-10K BC
-Training Day
-Speed Racer
-Constantine
-Unforgiven
-Batman Begins
-Goodfellas
All for $151~~~~ :D
Dont forget to buy an HDMI cable too!!!

That is a ridiculous deal. I thought I did well getting this player w/ 4 blu-rays for about $192 shipped. Anyone who doesn't jump on this is nuts.

Keep the PS3 --- performance, features, expansion proof -- it's the best Blu-Ray player you can buy. PLUS - you get a game machine to boot!

i see where he is coming from... if he only wants to watch blurays, this player is more than sufficient (and for HUNDREDS less). its network capable and has usb for upgrades. if you dont mind a dim led display on the player itself then theres no problem (esp since the ps3 has none). plus no need to buy a remote.

Using it right now (bought it the first time this deal was offered). LCD is very dim, but the picture is great. Using it for my upstairs HDTV. Not bad for kids movies and stuff my wife likes.
Hopefully it will come back into stock so I can get one for my bedroom. I will just flip the movies on Amazon or eBay.

From Amazon:
"Applies only to products sold by the merchant indicated in the promotional offer message. Does not apply to items sold by other merchants on the Amazon.com Web site. For example, where the promotional offer applies to items offered by Amazon.com, items offered by other merchants on the Amazon.com Web site (e.g. Lands' End, Target, etc.) do not qualify."

Well I happened to get in on this earlier around noon. Here is what I got:
The BR Player
Batman Begins
Dirty Harry
Micheal Clayton
Blood Diamond
A Scanner Darkly
2001 - A Space Odyssey
Blade Runner (5-Disc Collector's Edition)
V for Vendetta
HDMI Cable
Free 1 year subscription to Wired Mag.
All of that for $186 shipped.
Stryffe2004

yeah it was.
Thanks. The $20 is not necessarily a deal breaker, but it does make one think since all the blu rays I want are over $20.

According to Amazon customer service this deal "should" still be working. I told them that on 12-8-08 I placed qualifying items in my cart that were part of this promotion and that the deal stated it was good from 12-8-08 to 12-14-08. During the course of adding all the items, the blu-ray player went out of stock, so I was not able to complete my order. They checked the promo code and said that it was a valid code and they couldn't understand why it didn't work. I received this email:
Thank you for writing to us at Amazon.com (http://amazon.com/).
Please accept our apologies for the difficulty you experienced with this promotion.
I have checked your promotional code and found that it is valid. I am really sorry to hear you are unable to apply.
If your order qualifies for the promotion, then we will honor the promotion as stated. Please take a moment to read through the promotion requirements and to double-check the seller of the item(s) you're ordering. Items offered by third-party merchants on our site may not be eligible for this particular promotion.
After checking the promotion restrictions, you may either try placing an order again in a few days, or you may place the order now and write to us with your order number. If your order qualifies for the promotion, we'll apply the promotion for you.
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. We appreciate your business and hope to see you again soon at Amazon.com.
So, I went ahead and placed the order and wrote them another email with the order number. After I placed the order I received this email.
Thank you for writing to us at Amazon.com (http://amazon.com/).
I'm sorry that our promotional offer was not applied to your order.
To correct this error, I've requested a refund of $200.00 to reimburse you for the amount you were erroneously charged. This refund should be issued to your credit card within the next 2 to 3 business days.
We'll send you another e-mail to let you know when it has been completed. To view the status of a refund, click the "Your Account" link on the top right-hand side of the Amazon.com homepage then click "View Recent and Open Orders" in the Orders section. Completed refunds will appear at the bottom of an individual order's summary page.
Completed refunds appear at the bottom of an individual order's summary page.
I hope this solution is satisfactory and apologize once again for this inconvenience.
Thank you for shopping at Amazon.com.
It may have been a bit of a hassle, but I was trying to get this as a Christmas present for my parents. I figured if somebody else doesn't mind going through a little bit of trouble they might get this to work for them also.

That is what I did as well, but then I went the customer service route since when the promotion was posted it said it was good through December 14. The Amazon customer service reps could not understand why it was coming up as expired, so they gave me the deal. YMMV, but I figured it might be worth a shot to someone else.
You will not find mention of the promotion anywhere on the Amazon site as Amazon pulled all the info, but when the promotional page was active it listed the dates of 12-8-08 to 12-14-08

Normally promotions like this from Amazon.com have a limited number of uses and a time duration. If it's a really good promotion, it tends to end earlier than planned by the timeframe for the promotion.
Usually that's under a "while supplies last" clause or the like.
misbitski
12-11-2008, 06:40 PM
Yep, no go. I tried getting a match on this while the promo was running, and they told me to make a new order and return the old. I tried placing a new one after seeing mastere333's post and then sent them an e-mail. Here's what I got:
Thank you for writing to us at Amazon.com.
I'm sorry, but it appears that your order did not meet all of the qualifications specified for this promotional offer because the Samsung Bluray player was not available for purchase and the offer eventually was removed.
These restrictions may vary with individual promotional offers, so I also recommend reading the "fine print" details for any future promotional offer you wish to redeem.
We appreciate your business and hope that you will visit us again at Amazon.com.
Oh well...it was worth a shot. Just canceled the order and am keeping my old one (which was still great at $192 for the player + 4 blu-rays)

I guess I either got very lucky or I got it in the nick of time. I've already received my $200 refund as well. Oh well, no harm in trying, right?
