Wait Bukakke TIV at BBV is $16? When I picked it up B1G1 for $5.00 at BBV? I'm confused.

I think the only explanation is that Bukkake simply slipped through the cracks.

Best Bukkake quote yet? :applause:

Also I wonder if the monster jam trade in is for the ps2 version, I find it hard to believe that BB is on the ball enough to drop a trade value that much.

Hahaha... Well done my friend well done... Very tasteful.

Thanks as always Animal for the updated TIVs. After seeing that Monster Jam dropped I was about to start freaking out saying that the sky was falling, but then to ensure the sanity of CAG flippers every where, I see "Cranium Bukkake - 16". Rest assured justice as we know it still exists. Also, anyone want to take bets on when it falls?

Is this game worth $10? I passed on it when it was $20 at RS, and I'm kind of burnt out on the whole platform action thing since playing God of War II recently.

This was a great window. Parlayed 1 game I already owned, about $80, $50 in gift cards and about 18 hours of time into 30 games to keep*, including:

*(keep, of course, is completely relative ;))

Banjo: Nuts & Bolts
Persona 4
Rise of the Argonauts
Metroid: Corruption
Boom Blox
Wii Fit
Super Mario Galaxy
CoD: World at War

Also ended up with a small stack of points cards for the various systems and some extra Wii controllers. I'm satisfied....:applause::D:applause:

Well with tax on the game at Bestbuy unless you have RZ cert or something your only looking then at maybe $2-$3 profit on flipping those.... It may be worth it to some people but the time to run around and grab them and trade them seems like its a waste of time.

But the $2-$3 profit is still good enough if say, you have 2 other games you want to trade in and this will get you $3.34 extra on each of those with GS's current promo. That's why I'm probably going to do it.

Called for fun and, even though they give $3 for Monster Jam, they are still selling it for $29.99... if they can. ;)

jer7583
01-12-2009, 02:44 PM
Only reason I can think of them targeting Monster Jam so specifically is that it was one of the only games that was really worth flipping for reasons other than transferring credit. The $8 or so after edge to $22 was significant, moreso than the 32-35 for most of the Ubisoft titles.

Although, Legendary and Oblivion still go from $25ish-32, so that's not the worst.

On another note, if you're able to get the game PM'ed somewhere like CC and get them to apply the 10%, you get the game for 6.99 or 7.99? + tax which makes it a pretty decent flip

I went to 13-14 blockbuster video stores in the past week, and every store had crap games for ps3, and even the new game selection is extremely limited to maybe 10-12 games, madden, nba 2k9, fallout, socom, saints row 2, cod waw, motorstorm pr, and a couple more...none of them even had resistance 2

I screwed up and tried to trade Skate City Heroes to BBV, but they don't accept this game for trade-in. What's worse is that I actually paid for this game with cash at Gamestop because I didn't have 2 Wii games to trade in. I saw in a recent post that SCH could be traded in for $30 at BBV, so I was going to do a traditional flip.

Still, I was able to trade in Prince of Persia for the PS3 and got Bully and GTA IV for the 360 as well as Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Safari Rescue for the Wii. Trading the 360 games along with a copy of Dark Sector I still have will net me about $34.22. Trading in the Wii games for Skate City Heroes will net me $30 once I return the game. I'm still going to come out with almost $65 in credit even though I may have wasted $20.

I still want figure out what to do with that unsealed copy of SCH that I have in hopes of getting my money back. If I'm lucky, another GS that isn't too strict will let me return it to them. We'll see if that works.

ninja dog
01-12-2009, 03:19 PM
Made an "impulse stop" at a BBV and they had all these! (with TIV):
--Dark Sector PS3 - $2.50 (ouch, I had a hard time choosing a 6th game and thought this would at least be $5)
--DMC4 PS3 - $8
--VF5 360 - $7
--Spiderwick Chronicles 360 - $7
--Spyro Wii - $7
--FEAR Files 360 - $7

Got ~$63 in credit, $37 spent. Put it all towards a SFIV Tournament Edition stick :)

Does Super Swing Golf really get more at GS then Super Swing Golf Season 2, as claimed in post 2? Anyone know why? A local BBV has both and I was wondering if that was a typo or just incorrect?

It's true. I don't know why. I have traded both in at different times, and Season 2 does get less.

it is 10% of the difference. so cc is selling it for 30. pick it up there and then show them the ad after you have already bought it and they will refund you 22 (20 + 2 (10%)) making the total 8

Every time (well, more like 9 times out of 10) that I've bought a "new" game, aka new but not sealed, aka "gutted", they've put a clear, circular piece of tape over the edge of the game. If that seal is broken, then they consider the game to be opened as far as return policy goes. Only 1-2 times did they not put one on and it was because they were hella-busy and just trying to finish quickly.

Mark Jackson from Corporate called me back. He began by scolding me for attempting to trade while I was banned. I said, "LOL, well I didn't know if you got to my account yet." I had a twenty minute conversation picking him apart. First I scolded him for not even speaking about the manager who said I was a thief. I said it was highly suspect he didn't read the report. He said, "Do you understand how many of these reports I read a day?" I said it didn't matter and asked him if he even reviewed my trade history. He started to get flustered and told me to hold on a moment. Then he said between November 1st to December 25th I traded in 25 games. I told him some of those were my little brother's who's too young to trade in (a recurring lie I've used to explain duplicates) and the only things he should be suspicious of were the Alone in the Darks (3 for Wii and 3 for 360, which I explained to him were purchased in an Ebay lot) I kept reminding him how he's afraid I'm a thief and that's what he's basing his fear on. I also said if half of those titles were my brothers, then 12 games in a month and a half is NOT THAT MUCH. Still, he didn't care.

He kept going back to "Wah, I'm not comfortable with you trading in" and then I asked him why the trade agreement says I can trade in 2 of the same title per system per day. I told him the theoretical max of same titles in one month would be 60 games and it would all be supported by the trade agreement I signed. He repeated his rabble rabble and then I told him, "Fine." He said, "We need to know where you stand on this. Are you going to keep trying to trade in games?" I said, "What if I did?" He said, "You will be banned from the store entirely and considered a tresspasser." I said, "No, I won't. But my girlfriend, Grandma, Mom, Dad, and my several friends will be. I know many people who have done 20 times more damage to your store than I ever have done. My girlfriend is already signed up in fact. But I won't tell you what city and state she's in. Better ban all of the female traders. Oh wait, but my girlfriend could be a transvestite and still legally be a man, with a man's name and all. Better ban every trader. Enjoy pissing off every customer so you can pursue your witchhunt." Then I hung up.

Hopefully this didn't get me banned in the other districts. He also gave me one interesting bit of info: Blockbuster is unsure if it will continue it's trade in program or not. He said it is difficult to manage. Yeah, no kidding asshole when you sell Cranium for 9.99 and it gets 16 in trade.

I've wondered about this for awhile because of the way their stock of video games seems to fluctuate. But what I will say is that if they do this, they better stop renting games as well because nobody is going to be buying their crappy, scratched up ex-rentals when it's time to put them out to pasture.

Having credit at BBV makes it easy to pick up a used game, even when there's not a sale going on. If they get rid of trade ins, all they'll have to sell is ex-rentals, and I just don't see people willing to pay cash for them (unless they just work out some kind of deal to sell them to Gamestop wholesale). Come on Blockbuster. You're either in the video game business, or you're not. Get off the fence!

The trick is to simply bring the games up to the counter and let them ring them up without asking any questions. If they ring up regular price, decline to complete the transaction saying you thought they were B1G1. If they ring up B1G1, then buy them and raid the rest of the stock. :)

Don't ask them to scan the games to see if it is still on sale, just had 'em the games and say you want to buy. If it doesn't ring up b1g1 just say you brought the wrong credit card, if it does pay for those and go shop some more!

However, I did some more flipping today, and I bought some more new, unsealed games from a different store, and they didn't put a clear sticker on my new games. I'm hoping I can return SCH to them even though the sticker is gone now. We'll see. If not, there's one other store I can try to return the game to...

I used $79.26 out of the $83 I got from trading in Prince of Persia (360), Cranium Kabookii and Legendary (PS3) to buy these games. When I flip these games over to GS, I should get at least $140 credit (not sure of some of the TIVs for the DS games I got). I still have a few games left over from previous B1G1 runs that will hopefully net me another $60 or so. By the time I'm trading everything I have back to GS, I should have well over $300 in store credit. I'm well on my way towards getting a new PS3. :)

P.S. I was also able to get a value card from this BBV (other stores didn't have them anymore), which is great, because now I can store my credit from various stores on one card instead of having to monitor how much credit I have at different stores.

360:
pop – 35

ps3:
pop – 32

Thanks for all the quotes - these two seem out of whack, though. And I just bought a PS3 PoP yesterday. I was going to play it this week then trade it next Sunday. Still not bad if it really went down just $4, but still seems odd the 360 one would stay at $35.

And wow, there's like 5 pages of posts since I was on late late last night. And this thread had been somewhat quiet recently!

Enjoy the last day of the B1G1 folks! I may hit up one more store today, or I may not. It probably isn't worth the trouble, even if they do have some stuff. I'm getting tired of all of this.

To the person asking about Jumper and the other cheap Wii games - I posted the other day that a lot of them seem to have jumped a bit in value at GS making them eligible for the $5 bonus coupon. In fact, I specifically mentioned that I got the extra $5 on Jumper and Cocoto magic Circus. The B2G1 sale at GS cleared out a lot of their Wii game stock and as a result many Wii game prices went up a bit (since GS adjusts them based on company-wide stock). We can thank all the new Wii owners looking for cheap games (whether crappy or not). Jumper has also been marked at $3 in the second post since I found out about that, so make sure to look there ;).

As for the fate of the second post (well, the second part of it, anyway) - I'll leave that up for a while as people figure out what to do with all the games they got from this sale.

The TIVs for both PoPs are correct. I bought the PS3 version yesterday thinking that its TIV of $36 was going to hold up, but when I traded it in today, it was $32. I bought the 360 version again today to flip it to a different BBV, and I got $35 for it. Interesting stuff.

I wonder if corporate got smart and instead of banning they are monitoring some of the more active accounts and nerfing the games that keep popping up? Maybe that's why Monster Jam had such a meteoric fall in value.

Though I'm sure that's giving them way too much credit. If Jackson has anything to with this we'd all be banned.

I wouldn't be surprised if corporate got wise about Monster Jam. That was probably the most traded in game during this B1G1 promo.

Finally just finished up. I have some more trading to do before the $5 wii bonus coupon expires, but here's how my final trade-in haul should look:

GS: Bought 2x Legendary (360), 1x Legendary (PS3), 2x Bukkake, 2x Smash Court Tennis, 2x Monster Jam, 1x Oblivion GOTY, (Spent $175)

BB: From trades got $247 in credit, which I spent (+$15 cash when credit ran out) on:
360:
GTA IV (x5)
Virtua Fighter 5 (x2)
Spiderwick Chronicles (x2)
Chronicles of Narnia: Caspian
DMC 4
Eternal Sonata
Bully
Bioshock
Dirt
FEAR Files
PS3:
GTA IV (PS3) (x4)
Haze
Wii:
Wing Island (x2)
Ninjabread Man (x2)
Battle of the Bands (x2)
Alien Syndrome (x2)
Okami (x2)
DBZ: BT 2
Samba De Amigo
Spyro: Eternal Night
Bully
Elebits
Sea Monsters
Spiderwick Chronicles
Ninja Reflex
Cocoto Magic Circus
Big Beach Sports
No More Heroes
DS:
Assassin's Creed
Advance Wars: Days of Ruin

Back to GS:
Traded in DBZ and Ninja Reflex for $30 toward Wii Fit.
So, far I have traded in 65% of what I have bought, and expect to clear $510 in credit at GS when all is said and done.

All in all I turned $175 @ GS -> $247 @ BB -> $540 @ GS. Not bad for a few hours work.

Pinnball Dreams Wii - $8(GS)

I traded in several other games, the GS I was at had no decent flipables, but I did find 3 PS2 network adaptors!! I also finaly got a charger for my Wii-motes.

Picked up Turok, UTIII, Lost, and Devil May Cry 4 all for PS3. Only UTIII had the manual and Turok came in a generic case with the turok cover slip in, but whatever. They seemed to be in a hurry and I didn't want to push them.

Um... apparently since I used my home address (I've always used my home address up until I moved to a new apartment recently) my parents can't do business at Blockbuster because I'm suspected of theft. My dad called me, yelling at me and telling me to fix it. I told him I've been trying but he just kept yelling so I hung up on him. Now Blockbuster is ruining my relationship with my father! Not acceptable!

And the guy's name at corporate is Matt Jackson, not Mark. Whoops.

EDIT: Got a hold of my mom. Apparently she had to fill out a ton of paperwork or something. She also said I was being accused of theft and flipping. That I trade in brand new games. I'm also forbidden to take a step inside any Blockbuster in the state of Arizona. They are really, really fucking nuts at Blockbuster.

Terrible last night of the sale for me. I saw quite a few good things on Saturday at a BBV that's closer to my gf's house (prolly a 20 min drive for me) but I had no cash or credit, so decided to take the night off from work to go tonight. I stopped at GS & picked up Endwar ($27.99 after Egde & coupon) to pick up Bioshock, Bully, GTA & something else ... maybe DMC4. But to my surpise, when I got there I found that they had none of these. And copies of Endwar & Legendary I didn't notice 2 days ago. lol, guess someone beat me to it.

And then the next store I went to had a couple of decent stuff, but mostly GS TIVs of ~$4-6. Still would've been decent, but I decided to go to one alot closer to my house.

But they told me the sale was over. I said I thought I had seen the 12th on a sign at a different store and maybe they could try ringing something up, but then the CSR just asked the manager and he also said it was over. So I didn't wanna raise suspiscion & just left.

So I'll just play Endwar this week and get credit this weekend. On the bright side, my Endwar did have a 48 hr XBL card... yay. :P

I spoke to the manager at my parent's Blockbuster. They said, "It looks like you were stealing games and trading them in." I couldn't believe it. I started to get a little mad and he said, "That's what the window says, that's all I can tell you." I kept pressing for the name of the person who wrote that in my account. He wouldn't say who, just that it's a manager or corporate who put that there.

I can't believe they'll blatant assume theft like that. It's completely outrageous.

This shit is bizzare. I never could have thought a corporation could be so insane.

Good luck with that, it must be frustrating, but I had a good laugh at BBV's overreaction to you. Wouldn't be surprised if they thought the same thing (Aside from my spending about $100 on the B1G1 sale, such a thief, I know, right?)

Actually I talked to one of the stores I flipped the most at and they said that I could still trade there but that it couldn't be more than 2 of a game - at all. That's okay. I can deal with that. Another store banned me from trading, but it seems not all stores did that.

Yeah... if it was happening to someone else, I'd laugh my ass off too. But it's happening to me so I'm slightly perturbed. A DM and a man at corporate (supposedly) do not think I am a thief, but yet their managers are still going around saying I'm stealing.

Trade in games, you're a thief. No matter what you do, you're a thief. No, those receipts aren't real/You stole those receipts, you're a thief. I love the thought process at Blockbuster. If they ran our court system, everyone in America would be fucking each other in the ass in prison.

Well, my girlfriend is helping me with the latter. I've only called on her twice for emergency credit for the sale. I also might have her trade in bits and pieces to save up for an Archos. I'm halfway there with the help she gave me yesterday.

I don't see any recourse, other than figuring out who's above Matt Jackson. I tried "CEO@BLockbuster.com" but that's not an email address apparently. I sent an email on their form at Blockbuster.com/Corporate. We'll see if that goes anywhere. It won't.

We'll also see if the BBB sides with me and Blockbuster gets a tarnish record with the BBB. I would like that a lot, actually. I think that's a valid complaint, manager after manager telling you that you're a thief even though you're not.

I grabbed one last week. It was the only one I could find out of about 10 stores nearby. Like you say, the accessories are readily available but not the main system.

After getting the Archos I am moderately happy with the device. I paid the $38 on Ebay to get the Plugins for the video and web browser, which was the main reason I got it. It only holds 4GB, despite the site showing 30GB and larger but not 4GB. I was really holding out hope that it was 30GB, so that brough the deal down to earth for me. The web interface is a little slow, dial-up level on a good wireless broadband. The touch screen is neat, but I constantly have to try to point indirectly at the item I want to get it to register the right value. If I was paying cash I would be pissed, but I got it on uber-cheap credit, so it's a fun toy.

On a more serious note, I may have found my new favorite GameStop, and quite possibly every flippers dream come true... Check this story out...

I go into trade Dark Sector, Chronicles, and Bioshock from the B1G1 sale. The kid rings everything up and gives me the base value of 17. He then scans my EDGE and then has the promo go through. Then he is asking if I wanted to preorder anything and says I will get an extra 20%. I just made a comment like "It won't stack though will it?" He just responded that it normally wouldn't, but that he would do it for me... Well he gets done and I put $10 on RE5... He gives me the receipt, and much to my suprise he gave me back 34.12!!!!! on my EDGE card. Check out this transaction...

Dark Sector -8.84
952259 952/000 -1 @ -3.00
Bonus: 3.34 Promo #6460
Bonus: -2.00 Price Override
Disc: 0.50 Edge Card 10%

Chronicles of Narnia -12.14
952267 952/000 -1 @ -6.00
Bonus: 3.34 Promo #6460
Bonus: -2.00 Price Override
Disc: 0.80 Edge Card 10%

BioShock -23.14
952039 952/000 -1 @ 8.00
Bonus: 3.34 Promo #6460
Bonus: -10.00 Price Override
Disc: 1.80 Edge Card 10%

Preown Total -44.12

I don't know how the hell this happened, but I like it.

The promo for Trade 3 Get 10 is obvious the first one, then it is from there that I don't know what the hell happened. It looks like the second bonus is supposed to be the PowerTrade 20%, but I don't know when $10 became 20% of $8.00. Then the edge was obviously added after the 2nd bonus and base TIV.

io
01-12-2009, 10:58 PM
^^^ You are a lucky bastard, that's what happened ;).

Even if he overrode for the 20% power trade deal, it should have been 20% of the base trade-in values ($17). That means the override should have been $3.40 total but instead he gave you $14! Then, of course, Edge stacks on top of the override for another $1.40 in that case.

Alright - I decided what the hell, I might as well drive to the store 8 miles away and see if they have anything. I haven't been there in a few weeks so maybe their latest pulls resulted in some good stuff. I'm not holding out much hope though. I did snag another PS3 GTA IV (along with Hulk) at my local store today. It was a recent pull with a date of 1/10 - minty to boot!

If you have a receipt or a blockbuster account they'll offer to trade it for the same one, or if not, give you a game of equal value. Or, you can do what I did and say you didn't see anything that you wanted at that price, and pick something out more expensive and ask if they'll deduct the price (they may do the preb1g1 price like they did with me).

Sadly visited my last couple stores tonight. They both had tons of DMC4, Condemned 2, a few bioshocks, gta4, but I just wanted games to keep. Picked up:
Ninja Gaiden Black (Xbox), $3.50
Metroid Prime (GC), $3.50
Okami (Wii), $7.50
and The Club (360), $7.50

I really wanted Orange Box, but the only store I ever found it at had nothing to go with it and no case/manual so I passed.

I've seen two so far. Still available as of yesterday. I should get on it though, in case someone manages to purchase it. I'd steal it, but I'm already in deep you know.

I'll access your account for you if you want but I'll need your Blockbuster number on the back of your card if you want to PM me. Also if the warnings on your account are made by anyone other than corporate they don't transfer from store to store, only corporate comments do.

Weird, as that is sort of the point. When I'm making small talk I even mention that as the reason I want it on a Value card (to look for used games at other stores since they all have different selections).

In any case, I've actually been using up all my Value cards recently - I had several down to $5 or so and have pretty much finished most of them off now. So sad...

As expected, I didn't find much at the other BBV tonight (just got back). But just to say I accomplished something I picked up Bully for the 360 and Hulk for the PS3. They had about 12 games left in the B1G1 rack and maybe 20-30 total other used games. Some of the newer drops (like Hulk and SST for PS3) weren't tagged correctly, to my benefit I'm sure.

Hulk supposedly trades for $8, which isn't too bad. But since I now have 3 I definitely have to get rid of 2 of them ;).

FoS - Is it possible this Jackson character sent out the "thief" warning just to get back at you for what you said to him (in partciular the part about signing your whole family up, etc). He may very well know you aren't a thief, but once he puts that out there you're hosed. It seems like you drew just a bit too much attention to yourself during this whole mess. Weren't you just store-banned (or possibly district-banned) originally? Hopefully you can work it all out - your only choice at this point may be to go over his head, and if I were in your shoes that's probably what I'd do. But of course the rest of us hope you don't bring too much attention to this whole hobby of ours ;).

After reading this I figured I'd check the BB across the street and they had a bunch of rental converts added to the sales shelf. Most of it was new stuff like Fallout 3 and GHWT, but I finally found a copy of Skate which I've been looking for the whole time. Only game I could find to pair it with was Bioshock which I already have so I'll trade this copy in to GS for a little profit I guess.

Also on a sad note, I just got all fired up and decided I'd make one last run to my local BBV before closing. I've bought probably close to 100 games from the sale there alone, but I thought maybe I'd go peruse one more time and see if I missed anything.

Well, lo and behold, I thought I had about 20min. to close, but just checked the website and they close at 10 on Mondays!!!!! :-({|=

I don't see any recourse, other than figuring out who's above Matt Jackson. I tried "CEO@BLockbuster.com" but that's not an email address apparently. I sent an email on their form at Blockbuster.com/Corporate. We'll see if that goes anywhere. It won't.

You are wasting your time w/ the CEO. Read this link:

Everyone wants to talk to the CEO but the Vice President is the one who might have time for you. Blockbuster does have some investor relations links on their website and there is some contact info in the press releases. So the B1G1 sale is normally the only time that BBV to GS flips are profitable? Are B2G1 sales ever good for flipping? I know Gamestop and Game Crazy have those from time to time. I don't need a detailed breakdown of flipping opportunities, but I'd appreciate it if people could point out some obvious opportunities I should be aware of. Thanks in advance.

Finding flips from GS to BBV usually isn't a problem, either with 20% + Edge coupons or B2G1 sales. The obvious opportunities will be, well, obvious as long as you keep up with this thread. (The second post is invaluable for that).

Finding flips back to GS are the tough part. B1G1 by far is best time. Typically, though, the best you'll be able to find are breaking even or +$1-2 a game when GS has a promotion.

Example: Even without B1G1, you could still find 6.99-9.99 Wii games at BBV and get about $10-13 at GS with the +$5 coupon.

Opportunities will be there, just don't expect them to be as easy/lucrative as the past few weeks.

As far as I can remember, maybe once or twice a year at most. Of course, with economic times slowing down, a lot more sales are occuring, including B1G1. For all we know, it could show up again in a few months. Of course, a replenishment of titles would be helpful, many stores have dwindled down on stock (Which is what they want I suppose).

I've never done it, but I believe IO has said he pricematches BBV's TIV at Game Crazy sometimes. That's probably the best way to get credit there, otherwise Game Crazy's TIVs are more in line with Gamestop's.

I think all you need is to get a quote receipt from BBV and take it to Game Crazy and they'll honor that. Like I said, I've never done it, but I'm pretty sure that's what you do.

I've asked this before as well and didn't get a favorable response. It seems like the GameCrazy TIV's are pretty cruddy unless you can get them to PM BBV, and even then I've had them tell me they wouldn't do it if it didn't make sense. GC does have some decent buying deals that would probably work to flip to GS, but I don't think it's a mutual beneficial relationship.

Hmmm... If only Blockbuster had promotions for new releases and stuff like that. Doing flips from GS to BBV to acquire enough grab full priced games probably wouldn't be too hard, but it seems I'd quickly run out of GS credit to cover it. Since finding Positive BBV to GS flips is hard without B1G1 seems the cycle is kinda stalled for me at least, until the next BBV promotion.

Ah, it was a good few weeks. My haul:

X360:
Bioshock
Battlefield: BC ($15 after mishap)
The Club
Bully
GTA 4 x 2
Crackdown

PS2-
Tekken 5 ($5)
Metal Slug Anthology ($5)
God of War ($5)
Killer 7 ($2.50)

GC-
Viewtiful Joe 2 ($2.50)
Metroid Prime ($3.50)
Wind Waker ($5)

Wii-
Okami
~8 toward ~110 dollars at gamestop/BBV

PS3-
GTA 4

Xbox -
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory ($2.50)
Ninja Gaiden Black ($3.50)
Lego Star Wars 2 ($5)

Retrospective:
-First few times I went, didn't bother to look at PS2/GC games at all. I wonder what gems may have been snatched before I looked.
-Regret not buying Orange Box (didn't feel like pairing it with condemned 2)
-Regret not buying Super Monkey Ball 2 for $5
-There are a lot of Blockbuster Videos in my area, many which were stocked constantly with DMC4, GTA 4, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Eternal Sonata, so on.

I would like to see some of the PS2 games get added to the racks in a new sale, but as far as x360 not much to look forward to dropping in soon. Most of the games I want were either available in this deal or just came out (e.g. Fable II, L4D, CoDWAW, etc.).

Well back when I first found out about the B1G1 sale, GC was also having a B1G1 sale with games like Lost Planet being $5 and TNA being $10. Well I took one of my $7.50 GTAs from BBV and they gave me $12 which I used to get Two Worlds and Hour of Victory and I guess I still have some credit there. This was before I ever did any flipping, so only got those to keep and haven't been back to GC since, lol.

Yeah, I traded a couple of GTA's to GC myself, but they didn't get as much as GS (with the promo) so it is hard to justify. But just for diversification purposes it is good to have some money at GC. I may try a few of the things I have left over. I'd like to see what PS3 Hulk, VP2, and maybe a few others get there.

That's exactly what happens, is that it's put on your account at the store you traded the games into. However, they CAN(and have for me)transfer any and all of that credit to whichever store you're looking to buy something from with just a phone call from the store you're at to the store with the credit in their system.

Do that tactic enough and they'll stop telling you they 'can't put it on a value card for you'. Trust me, they got sick and tired of transferring credit back and forth REALLY quick from me doing that every couple of weeks.

OK, I modifed the thread title, the first post, and the second post with the apparent end of the B1G1 deal (though there is the slightest possibility it got extended so I didn't get rid of it entirely).

For those wondering about BBV -> GS transfers without the B1G1 sale, I noticed there are still some decent games to use (if you can find them). I highlighted anything that will get you even money or better using the trade 3 get $10 deal at GS. A few 360 games like FEAR Files and Virtua Fighter 5 will still get you over what they cost at BBV even at regular ($9.99) price and shouldn't be impossible to find. The Wii stuff is even better if you use the $5 extra coupon this week (through Thursday). If you can find them (very tough at this point - more so than the 360 games), several Wii games priced at $9.99 get $8-$10 at GS in base value. Spiderman Friend or Foe, apparently, just went up from $8 to $10 recently - somehow we missed that amongst all the other Wii game TIV increases at GS. They must have really sold a ton of Wii games during that B2G1 sale! Of course, I haven't seen one of these at any BBV store in 2+ weeks now.

Yesterday, after being rejected at one BBV that claimed the promotion was already over, I went to another where it was still on and had some success, but also have to conclude again that people complain way too much about Gamestop - Blockbuster is the one that deserves everything you can throw at it. First let me get to my short list of purchases, all Wii games:

Wing Island: $9.99
Battle of the Bands: $9.99 (free)
Geometry Wars Galaxies: $6.99
Avatar: The Last Airbender: $6.99 (free)

So you can see that I bought titles of different prices, and I knew it was trouble and I decided to do this in part to see if I'd get the same treatment as I got the first time I bought games at Blockbuster (as reported here earlier on in this thread), but also because it *shouldn't* be trouble. However, this time I planned to be as polite as possible no matter what.

I put the games in pairs. First the $9.99 titles together, then the $6.99. The lady behind the counter didn't re-pair them up this time, however she didn't total them after each pair and the end result was the total was $19.98+tax instead of $16.98+tax as it should have been. So, in a very polite manner, I asked if she would mind redoing it and pressing total after each pair so that I would get the $9.99 title free with the $9.99 title and the $6.99 title free with the $6.99 title. At first she didn't understand and then I, again politely, explained what had happened and she understood and she did want to do it but didn't know how to do it. So she asked the lady next to her, who was presumably the manager. She was on the phone. Well, that's when things went south, of course.

I remained polite throughout and explained to the manager that the way the games had been rung up I had gotten the $6.99 titles free and paid for both of the $9.99 titles and that I wanted them rung up so that I would get the $9.99 title free with the $9.99, etc, because that was the better value and because that made more sense. She asked me why that made more sense saying, "you are suppose to get the cheaper title for free". So, I said to her, again politely, that that didn't makes sense because then I would have to do two purchases and have them ring up first the $9.99 titles and then $6.99 titles. She looked flustered and said nothing. Thinking maybe she didn't know how to ring them up the right way easily, I explained to her, again very, very politely (and this was a real effort on my part by this point), that at other Blockbusters what they did was to scan the first two and press total and then scan the next two and press total, but before I could finish she, roughly, said, "I know how to do it." That was it for speaking from her and she never looked at me again.

Of course she knows how to do it and she knows that that would be the best value for the customer, but her goal is to screw the customer over, plain and simple. Moreover it's clear that this is company policy - this was not the same Blockbuster as before and it wasn't even the same state as before. That's Blockbuster. In the end she did it, but man.

Coda: in looking at my receipt I've come to realize that either they screwed me over on the tax, or Blockbuster is doing something screwing with calculating tax, or something else. MD has 5% tax. 5% of $16.98 is 85 cents and yet I was charged $1.02 for tax. What? One thing I note is the way they rung this thing up is that they rang it up as if I paid for the two $9.99 titles but then they gave me a $3.00 credit, but even if I got charged, as a result, for tax on $19.98, that would only be $1.00, and paid $1.02 for tax. Grrr. Maybe there is some explanation for it. I don't know.

In the end I stuck to my guns throughout and remained polite. I said as I left, "Sorry for being a bit of a pain." and, "Thanks". The manager did not look up at me nor make a sound.

Oh, and a followup thought... anyone else think that holding any significant credit at BBV is a bad idea? That BBV's days might be numbered, especially in this economy? Mind you, I'm no business person at all. I'm just Joe Schmo. Maybe their seemingly insane business model (anti-customer + anti-blockbuster?) actually works somehow, but from my perspective it seems, well, insane.

You could have just made two separate transactions. It may have taken an extra minute or two, but you'd save yourself $3 and there is NO way for them to ring it up wrong unless they refuse to do a second transaction.

I have spare copies of Eternal Sonata and Condemned 2, if anyone wants to do a 1:1 trade on either of them. Make an offer or post what you have, otherwise I'll take them back in a week or two.

I could have, but I should not have to. As I said, in part I wanted to see if they would do the same thing as the other Blockbuster did, and sure enough, they did. Also note that if you go back to my previous post about the other experience, in that experience at that other store they *refused* to allow me to make two separate transactions! I had to just buy the $9.99 titles and left the $14.99 titles. I could have gone back another time or maybe have just dropped the stuff off in the car and gone back in to buy the $14.99 titles, but I wasn't up for that fight then as I'm sure he would have given me a hard time (see that post). There's something seriously wrong with this approach to customer service.

Once I was at a store and wanted 10 $14.99 and 10 9.99 in two transactions and the manager wouldn't do it. When I said what if I just buy one batch go to my car and come back, he said he'd hold all games behind the counter and couldn't put them back on the shelf until tomorrow.

He was true to his word as at 10 that night they were still behind the counter and then at 10 the next morning they were on the shelf ready for me to buy

For the most part, I had very few issues with the B1G1 this time around. However, my last batch on Sunday, I was at one of my local stores, but I didn't recognize the woman ringing me up. So, I politely asked about ringing them up as equally priced pairs and totaling them up after each pair. Her response was something to the effect of "oh, you mean, doing it so its in your favor? Yeah, I know how to do that." She had sort of a condescending, cutting tone in her voice, but was mostly polite.

I just don't understand why BBV employees find the B1G1 concept so difficult to understand. Furthermore, it continues to baffle me how they stay afloat, considering how terrible like half of the employees I've dealt with are.

I forget who was wondering, but given FoS's location, there's no chance we're in the same district (though our states were brethren on the rejection of DST until my state caved recently - all hail noon meaning the sun is directly overhead!).

As for them ending the trade program, the letter I got indicated that they were doing some kind of large-scale review of trading accounts. I wonder if they'd choose to end the program before going to more of a Gamestop-style model of actively updating TIVs...

I ran into some fairly competent Blockbuster employees and some very nice ones as well. No insanely poor customer service like other people got. A few people seemed a little bit annoyed at my "Ummm, at some other store the guy did something where he totaled it in between every two?" "That won't work." "Yeah I guess, maybe we could try it though?" But I had a few who did it the right way (for me) right away, and made sure they matched up. Another time I was able to walk back in and politely ask to get it fixed because it was a 10 dollar difference, and the manager gave me a 10 dollar credit. When I apologized for being a pain in the ass she shrugged, smiled and said "Gotta get your money's worth!" So while I think Blockbuster is dying a slow, deserving death, at least some of their employees are certainly not insanely customer service inept.

Yeah, I've had some good experiences, but many times even the "good" employees I've dealt with have been completely clueless on certain things.

Also, a manager at one store who went out of her way to make sure everything was paired up and totaled properly took it to an extreme. She had them all (like 14 games) in 7 stacks of two and would just go get two at a time from the drawers, ring up the pair and total them, then move on to getting another two from the drawer. It didn't help that she was rather large and walked with a sort of slow waddle. By the end, there were 10 people stacked up behind me in line. I was trying to be nice beforehand and kept letting people in line go before me because I knew my transaction would take a while, but after I let 3-4 people go, she called me up and said "the line's just going to keep getting bigger, I'll go ahead and ring you up". It literally took 15 minutes or more to ring me up.

I agree with this, because most of my Blockbuster fellows are usually very nice and a fair amount of them actually play games and were added to my Xbox friends list as a result of gaming discourse.
As often as I find myself in a Blockbuster, the one thing that is a bit odd to me (and a little disturbing) is that there will be wholesale employee changes where the entire crew from a store seems to have been replaced. What happened to these people? Weird.

RIP BB B1G1 December 2008 - January 12th 2009 you will be missed. LOL!

Yes, it certainly will. This one was FAR more lucrative for flipping (for me at least) and had WAY more games worth keeping for myself. In fact, I can't think of anything off the top of my head that I kept last time around, although I'm sure there's something. Hopefully there will be another over the summer.

Oh, and a followup thought... anyone else think that holding any significant credit at BBV is a bad idea? That BBV's days might be numbered, especially in this economy? They definitely aren't doing very well right now, but they're trying several new strategies right now, so maybe some of those will work out for them. I do think that there will always be a need for the brick and mortar rental stores, but individual locations might not remain profitable, so they might shut down a number of stores. Once that starts to happen, then it's not a good idea to keep large amounts of credit there. Until then, I wouldn't worry too much. I don't know what your idea of "significant" is, but if worse came to worse, you would hear about it here and could probably go and buy Wiis or something with your credit.

Gamestop always puts the games together for me and totals between sets of 3 when I'm doing the b2g1 on used stuff. I guess I just always make sure I'm only buying equally priced games at blockbuster...

I just wanted to second that I think all the employees I ran into at 2 of the 3 norman blockbusters were super cool. One of them they just didn't know what they were doing and gave me 2 games that were so mangled I had to return them at the third store, but overall they were very happy to see the games leaving. One of them even gave me a 19.99 game for free with a 14.99 game even though it didn't ring up 14.99. It was oblivion on 360. Was that supposed to ring up 14.99?

Just went to trade in some Wii titles at GS, and ran into a few problems, then a nice bonus!

I was looking to put credit towards a SF IV Fightstick preorder, so I had 4 Wii games and the e-mail coupon. The CSR was very sure that the coupon only applied to 1 Wii title (it clearly says on the coupon limit 5 titles, wtf?), and insisted that I would get more with the trade 3/get $10.

He said he would take the 4th game and apply the coupon to that. Well, come to find out, that last game was a cheap Wii $9.99 filler game from the B2G1 sale...I had never even looked at it.

Turns out, it was the wrong game in the case: thought it was Furu, or one of those crap games, but it turned out to be deBlob ($18 base TIV at GS)! So although I basically got cheated out of ($5-$3.34x3), I still ended up with a lot more credit than I thought!

Base TIV's:
Bleach $11.00
Bully $9.00
Okami $8.00
de Blob $18

With the bonuses from 2 transactions, I ended up with: $65.62 in credit...not too shabby. Put that all towards an SF IV Fighstick, and with some other credit, it's paid off.

FYI, I was trying to get another preorder for the Tournament Edition Fightstick (the big boy $150 one), and they told me today at GS they currently couldn't place an order for one.

Luckily, last night I noticed that the preorder was no longer available on GS.com. So I raced down to the closest one, and was able to get a preorder for the game, and the tournament fight stick. Today, no dice! I'm thinking that these might turn out to be pretty hot/hard to find items.

So if you are a procrastinator like me, and were considering ordering this behemouth, you might want to get down to your local GS and see if you can still get an order in!

Yeah, I know...should have stuck to my guns. But sometimes it's worth it not to make too big of a deal over a few bucks. Also, I trade in a LOT at this store, and sometimes tend to know more about the promos than the employees, so every now and then I have to just let them win a battle.

LOL. Plus, you pay tax on online orders it seems, even if you use trade-in credit. At least, that's what my order summary shows. I doubt it'll have no tax when my pre-order actually charges and ships. I went ahead and ordered LocoRoco 2 online so I could use my Edge card that had $400 on it without having an employee say "...and you still have xxx left on your card." I used a free 2-day shipping on LocoRoco 2 code on gamestop.com so the only difference versus going and pre-ordering in-store was that I had to pay tax. I figured it was worth paying the $1.xx tax to avoid raising suspicion at GS by using that Edge card.

Yeah, but still...24% off + free shipping is still a pretty square deal. Especially if there's no coupon (25% or B2G1), this is gonna be a better deal than the standard 10% coupon +EDGE. I ordered a ton of flippables over the past few weeks, and they all showed up fairly complete and in good shape. I knew that every few days I would have a 1-2 new GS>BBV flips show up in the mail, even if my local stores were dry.

Not to be a math nerd or anything, but they aren't ripping you off when they do the CAG16 discount, this is the way percentages should always be applied, and GS rips themselves off when they give you something like a 30% trade bonus, with the 10% edge bonus and it adds to 40%. No offense to anyone, but that is how dumb people, and apparently computer systems, do math. I hope they continue to it ring this way, but it does not really make sense.

Uh, what? Your perception of how this bonus should be applied has nothing to do with how dumb people do math. It has to do with the interpretation of the discount. An Edge card gives 10% off the full Used price. A coupon is a separate offer that does the same. I don't know where you shop, but this is the case at all retail stores with membership discounts + special promotions. Think Macy's, Nordstrom... large chains.

The easiest thing for a computer to do would be to apply the discounts separately. It doesn't. It tallies them at the end for a reason when you purchase in store. It's not accidental. It's deliberate.

Now if it read something along the lines of "% off the discounted price" that's completely different and that's what you're talking about. It has less to do with math entirely than it does reading comprehension.

It actually does. When an employee says to you, when you are being rung up and using any of a number of discounts that don't require Edge membership, "If you sign up for our Edge card you will save 10% on all of your purchases," they are wrong about it. The 75% off GB/GBC games is a great example. With an edge card you end up saving 40% off of what the final price would be, instead of 10% because of the way the discount is applied. Maybe all stores do ring member % benefits with other % discounts, but no one has ever presented it that way to me.

You're arguing semantics. Not math. Are you arguing a different way of calculating the discount? Yes. But your reasons for using the different calculation is based on semantics and interpretation. Edge is a separate offer. That's why it is treated as such.

With your own example, you're getting 10% off of the STICKER price with EDGE. You're getting 40% off the ALREADY DISCOUNTED price. That's exactly what I was saying before. The distinction is never made, and therefore the assumption is that you get your discount off the sticker price. To do it otherwise is misleading.

This is what the Edge is for. Just because you're quoting what some Gamestop employee tells you doesn't mean that it's corporate policy. I've had Gamestop employees tell me that I get 10% off used systems before when the terms and conditions clearly state otherwise. Most of us have been here long enough to know that the vast majority of Gamestop employees misinterpret things all the time. When I worked at Gamestop, I told people "you get 10% off Used game prices." This implies sticker price and is the correct information.

You're assuming that the % discount is off of an already discounted price. This would be the case if the sticker showed the discounted price, but more often than not the discounted price is applied at the register.

A more appropriate example for you would be Target clearance. Let's say that you buy a game off of Target clearance. It rings up and has a sticker reflecting an already discounted price. When you use a coupon to get a % off, you get it off the already discounted price because that is its regular sale price at the time.

Well the training is kind of a joke. You read a booklet and then get dropped in a shift to pick up things as you go. Many offers and policies, like Edge, are inferred knowledge. In the case of your Gamestop employee, I think he just misspoke instead of really trying to mislead you or misinterpret the offer. Most people won't catch it.

:whee: ENOUGH about the GS discount please!

One of them even gave me a 19.99 game for free with a 14.99 game even though it didn't ring up 14.99. It was oblivion on 360. Was that supposed to ring up 14.99?

No - you were very lucky and got a $19.99 game for $7.50 - congrats!

I'm also wondering in the wake of the VV disaster, can value cards still be used to get other gift cards (Olive garden, Macy's, etc.) or is asking for a banning?

Well, it appears (knock on wood) that I didn't get in trouble for my one single on-account VV purchase. Just before that I made about 5 $100 Macy's card purchase with most of those on the account so I figure those don't have the same issue. From what we heard, it was Visa making a stink about it so I figure the rest of the cards are good.

Chill dude, not to be a jerk , but you sound like a 13 y/o math nerd, what you are saying dose not relay have much to do with math, or percents, what you are talking about a stores decision to give EDGE with other deals.

P.S. Adding the 10 to the 30 percent is the best way, other wise

$10 game* 40% edge and bonus = $14

$10 game*10%Edge = $11*30%bonus =14.30

10 game*30% bonus= $13*10% Edge = 14.30

so it is game stops best interest to add the percents together before they ad them to your order.

Alright, so I thought I would give me two cents on the whole gift card buying incident... Mind you this was in the MBS Disctrict of Michigan and this happened on Saturday.

I went to 1st Blockbuster and asked the guy if they had any empty gift cards he could put my credit on so that I could use it to buy something online. He then replied that he couldn't and that you could only purchase instore merchandise with credit. I then told him that I had previously purchased gift cards with out a problem to which he replied that they had just received a message during the week saying that they were not allowed to sell any Gift Cards for other stores. Then I just had him load up my value card and I left.

Then I went to another store about 10 mins away and I attempted to purchase a restaraunt card and the girl said that I wasn't allowed to. I explained to her that I had done so previously and that I should be able to since it was a value card and not a gift card. She then agreed to do it. I then asked her about finding out if they would let me buy a BB giftcard so that I could purchase some movies online. Since she wasn't sure she said she would have to ask one of the other managers (she was also one).

So as far as I know, there is still nothing in the system telling them that you can't use a Value Card to purchase a Gift Card.

Also as for the relationship between bannings and Gift Cards bought on account, here is what I have bought (since Dec. 10th or so) and have not heard a single word

2 $100 VVs (pretty sure both were on account)
2 $25 JCPennys (both were on account)
1 $25 Olive Garden (on account)
1 $10 Burger King (on account)
1 $20 Virgin Card (on account)

I think there may be only one VV that wasn't on account. All there were bought on account because I had been purchasing other stuff as well.

This weeks MAP says its over but they likely are having more screw ups inserting and deleting things from the system. I would go with what io said and be prepared for it to be gone at any time. I don't work tomorrow but I'll investigate further on Thursday because I work open to close. I'll try running a purchase through and then just voiding it out but it could all be a moot point by the time I post the results on Thursday night after 11pm.

I went to a store tonight to trade an Oblivion and they still had their signage up, so they honored the B1G1.

I got a few Wii and 360 games that were mismarked - Eternal Sonata, Soldier of Fortune, Elebits, and Sonic Riders. All to flip except SoF. Well, at least for a little while. I'll probably end up trading it in.

NOTE: The store still had their signs up, but the computer DID NOT do the B1G1 automatically. They had to manually make one of each group free. I'm 100% on this.

Technically 14+..it sucks but I'm getting used to it because it happens quite often. And it looks like I won't need to check because it was confirmed above. Oh and just so you guys know for future reference when you call and ask if the sale is over people will just say yes because we've been told it only runs until the 12th. They aren't able to actually check in the system to see if its over unless someone tries to ring up a transaction. The above poster did this so we know its over but just for future reference....I mean most Blockbuster employees can't tie their own shoes let alone use their brains. Trust nothing an employee tells you unless you see it for yourself.

Just an aside.. it kills me the things I've heard employees, even some of my employees say, under the guise of "its policy" or "corporate policy". Most of these things are just the specific store managers ideas or even worse the random thoughts of that CSR, and they all vary from store to store.

Because today is a sad day for the BBV thread...

I took off a week to get organized with school and such last week (taking enough classes for 2 full time students on top of both my jobs). In doing so, I found that not having BBV in my schedule was a huge relief on both my schedule and my sanity. So I just finished typing up my 2 weeks and I'm handing it in tomrrow morning. At least I can say I conquered the instore corporate ladder faster than anyone in my district ever has in the last 15 years. Definitely an accomplishment I need to tactfully add to my resume.
