Have 14 bucks left on credit at BB and 130 at GS.
So spent 35, came home with Orange box + Battlefield + 14 credit.

Probably similar to the Eye of Judgement trade-in fiasco/confusion; the employees are probably supposed to get the headset with the game for that price, but those who don't know better never required it. 2. price for 4gb is $99, less i need to flip (touch would be about $250?)
3. supports sd cards and those can be found pretty cheap
3. simple drag/drop, hate being forced to used itunes for everything.
4. have no need for apps/games

My hunt for Lord of the Rings Conquest to rent has continued to prove futile. I called the busy store with the late hours in the richy-rich area of town and they said they apparently don't carry it because while the release date was the 16th (Friday, according to their computers of course) they also didn't get any copies in for 360 or PS3. Wonderful - yet they chose to get Legendary for rent :roll:. That's some great purchasing decisions there, Mr. BBV corporate rental game-supplier dude, whoever you are.

Anyway, I seem to be able to find PS3 PoP's pretty easily now and ended up with 3. I finally traded one in late Sunday night. Hopefully it holds this week. One weird thing though. When I was going through my settings, it just randomly changed my screen to this murky, weird color of lines and stuff. It would change colors and patterns. It happened twice and I had to power it off. I wonder if my unit is faulty? Also, I was told it was brand new, but it was obviously the display unit reboxed. Smudges on the screen, one of my styli was missing, and there was black gunk on the back. :/ Lying bastards...

Unless its a fairly new movie they most likely won't even take it. At best you'll get $3 for a movie, this includes season sets. I know because I took in a stack of movies of once, probably 20 movies, and they took one and offered me $3 for volume 2 of The Family Guy. So I would guess you are much better off taking them somewhere else

2 reasons.

1) BBV and Holloywood played chicken to see who could last the longest. In the end, Hollywood video gave up and closed over 50% of their stores nationwide in an (currently successful) attempt to lick their wounds. In doing so, they forced many of their customers to turn to BBV which increased revenue in BBV's by as much as 33% in some areas.

2) BBV online has helped keep the company treading water. It's not necessarily making the company money, but it's helping a little here and there (constant source of income, very little money being paid for employees, as it's just a few warehouses being employed by only a handful of workers).

Also, notice all the changes in store recently. The new CEO realizes rentals aren't going to keep the company afloat forever. He's trying new things, seeing what direction he can take the BBV name in. He;s said on several occassions that BBV will be a place where people come to shop for something besides movies and movie rentals will be like the candy section in the checkout lane. A mere afterthought that will make a few bucks here and there. While I doubt we'll ever see this happen, I can't say he's not trying.

Yeah, we need double confirmation on this, because that is just weird. I rushed out of my way last night to trade one in because I thought it might drop. I don't think we've ever, in the history of this thread, seen a game go UP in value at Blockbuster. Really, I can't think of a single one.

A side note on my trade. I'm a little nervous because the person who took my trade, a new assistant manager at this store I guess, was very surprised at how high the value was and when she took the game she put a post-it note on it and wrote a whole bunch of stuff on there... I thought that was very odd. I want to know what she wrote. Since this is the store that caused me problems with Beowulf a year+ ago I'm going to be careful and not trade another PoP in that district (so if they compare notes like back then they don't see another traded by me). That means I can't trade one to my local store (and I still have 2 more to trade).

Sounds good. Even though I'm slightly pissed, now, that I got $32 for one last night that was hardly something I could have predicted would happen... At least I bought another (my third) last night as I almost passed on it thinking the $24.49 -> $32 really wasn't worth it. But I was so low on BBV credit I figured why not. With it being $36 now it is definitely a decent flip. And now I have all week to get to 2 stores in the other district with the 2 copies I still have.

Oh, and I was able to get a GS on Friday to return/repurchase my first PoP and a Legendary with the additional 10% off from the weekly coupon. At first they asked if I had the games (I only had PoP with me since Legendary was already living at a BBV at that point ;)). But then he figured out how to do it without needing either game to scan. So I recovered $7 or so of GS credit from that, and picked up my second PoP at the same time.

Anyway, back on topic, how exactly would I use an Archos for videos? I realize this seems like a silly question, but I get it's use as a web browser I just don't see how practical it is for videos. Would I rip DVDs onto my computer and then transfer them, is that what people are doing? The cable at my place is literally split 26 ways so the quality is complete shit and I probably wouldn't get the DVR addon. So that leaves me with stuff that I download from the interwebs and DVDs that I rip right?

If your cable is that bad, I would say for exactly this reason then. Considering how many purchased DVDs come with free digital copies nowadays, that's one option. Then, whatever you "obtain" from the internet, and any of your own personal DVDs you just rip, yes, they can all be placed on the Archos.

Like I mentioned earlier in the thread, you'll need to pay close attention to codecs though. If you're downloading torrents, you'll most certainly need the cinema plug-in (and possibly the podcast one). But if you're ripping things yourself, you can at least be in control of the codecs and formats you're using.

If we're talking overall ease of use, I'd definitely drop the extra $38 to buy the 4 plug-ins on eBay. I mean, the browser plug-in is basically a must, and that costs $29.99 alone directly through the Archos website. Might as well pay $8 extra and get them all.

Is it true they can't take the Guitar Hero games with the not for resale instead of the barcode? The one that comes in the Aerosmith bundle doesn't have something to scan so they said they couldn't take it. Didn't know if it was this one specific store that was just making something up or not. I traded in the PAL Fracture for no problem at this store (they just typed in the name) so maybe it depends on the worker?

In my experience, it depends on if they have another copy of DMC4 for sale. If they don't they most likely will let you exchange it for another title of equal value if you tell them it is defective.

I actually have a defective copy of GTAIV I was trying to keep but none of the stores close to me have another copy to swap so I have been told several times to exchange it for another game $14.99 or wait to find a store that has one. Several of them didn't even have a rental copy to swap it with.

Haha, not where I'm from. My two local GS stores have the balls to split the games up (and give you half a cover to boot), and sell each for $34.99. It all depends on how the employees are at the store you are trading at because some will let you and some won't. Best thing to do is try and find out. Also, it works better if trading multiples to trade a few other games with them to draw up less attention to the fact.

Not really a "sale" price...it is BBV's normal price. You may want to call around anyway, since BBV's restocking is iffy at best.

BBV isn't selling the Visa Vanillas anymore, and even if some stores have them, you probably want to avoid getting them since some CAGs had their BBV accounts banned just from purchasing these cards.

my BBV has about 20 copies on a table with a big clearance sign above them. they've had them for awhile...which is why I haven't jumped at the deal yet, but I'll probably grab a copy when I go out today or tomorrow.

So I'd say it's definatly worth checking your BBV out or calling and asking if you are interested in the game.

Pretty much, it's a waiting game now. If you have a lot of credit, just buy the Chili's or any other food giftcard that you're going to use anyway. You're lucky if you can do 1 to 1 flip back to GS during this dry season.

IMO, the zune is a waste of your credit since you already have the Archos. Especially since you're kind of limited now on flipping due to your BB issue.

I used to have a zune 30 (it broke) and i loved it, I used it every day...they are a little on the big side but they are well built and durable (I got in a fight with some kid and when he jumped at me I swung, and the zune just happened to be in my hand lol so the screen cracked on his nose, i wont go into any more detail tho, I got in big trouble lol). But I never had a problem with mine, I had tons of music and movies and they all played great with good sound quality and picture. i paid 150 for mine a few years back during a clearance sale or something at i think circuit city. I would pay 99 for a new one if there was one at my gamestop, its worth it if you have a lot of music, plus the xbox 360 works as a dock to charge it and play music from it to your tv.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking... I synced some music onto the Archos and played some of it. No issues with the playback, so I can't imagine the Zune being that much more terrific. Also, my music collection is tiny to begin with. I don't listen to a whole lot of music, so it probably would be a waste of credit. It does sound like a nice piece of hardware, and I like the fact MS is offering free upgrades for the Zune software.

Also, to Shornt, you could consider cashing out some of the credit with Wii Fit(s) People seem to be willing to pay 100 bucks (more in my area, but I only charged 100 because I didn't feel like gyping people that much since my GS credit has no sales tax charged) You won't get that nice profit that you get by flipping during a B1G1 free, but pretty much the only thing you'll be able to do without the B1G1 free are break even trades, or trades where you make a couple of bucks.

They have the Garmin Forerunner 205 for $199.99, about 50 more than Amazon. It's a training GPS for mostly running. Looks like a pretty cool device, but not sure how long i'm going to stick to my new years resolution of running. Surprised I made it 20 days already.
They also have the Skull Candy Macgyver 1G MP3 player watch for $99
They have some nice skins/hard cases for Ipod touch for around $30 for a 2 pack.

Sorry OT: Target has the Monster FM transmitter for $ 14.98 (75% off $ 59.99). It's pretty good so far. The packaging says ZUNE, but I use it with my iphone since the plug is just regular headphone jack. If anybody wants one, my local Target has 1 more as of this afternoon if you want me to pick it up.

It's been working fine for me and I'm in LA/OC where radio is pretty much in every frequency. Unless your car has an ipod plug-in or cassette player, FM transmitter is the only way. You don't want to buy cheap transmitter though since the signal is not strong enough. This Monster seems to do the job.

It's been working fine for me and I'm in LA/OC where radio is pretty much in every frequency. Unless your car has an ipod plug-in or cassette player, FM transmitter is the only way. You don't want to buy cheap transmitter though since the signal is not strong enough. This Monster seems to do the job.

Depending on how they rang it up it will be on your account, and will show how much you put down. All you need to do is show up and pay the difference if any. Now there are three possible outcomes when you go in on release day. 1. They get it in late in the week. 2. They sell your preorder to someone else. 3.They dont get the game at all. And then there is the inifinitely small possibility that everything goes well. This outcome is so small it isnt listed as a real possibility.

i believe people said that once your edge subscription ends, the value on the edge card is still there, you just dont get additional discounts. which makes sense since people can get an edge card w/o discount when they trade in, so it would be similar to that.

I haven't checked for the others but I would almost guarantee that not having LOTR they won't have the others either. They seem to pick amd choose certain game sets for certain areas. So while some people may get "everything" others get much more restricted supplies. It makes no damn sense. It is one thing to exclude a small-town store like mine, but like I said a few days ago I checked the busy, open-late, store in the richy-rich area and they didn't have LOTR:Conquest either. And according to them they "didn't carry it" because, I assume, like my local store, it isn't even on order to come in.

But yeah, seriously, BBV credit went from semi-valuable back down to near useless again in a heartbeat. They are completely unreliable with preorders and new game stock in general after a brief period of being good about that stuff. And now you can't even rent shit from them. I wonder of what use they really are?

I think BBV may have finally wised up to the fact that they were selling Cranium Kabookii for less than it was trading for. Apparently, Cranium sells for $5 at KMart. I found 2 at my local store, but when I called BBV to verify that the TIV was still $16, I was told that they are not accepting trades on this game right now. Thats sucks because I could've done a 3:1 flip (spending $10 to get $32 in BBV credit).

As for those of you who have several hundred dollars in BBV credit, how do you manage to keep all that credit without arousing suspicion? I'm assuming you don't keep all of your credit on one value card, correct?

It would be fantastic if they did another B1G1 in April. I have enough GS credit to buy a next gen system. However, doing so would deplete just about all of my credit. After buying my system plus a couple of games, I want to have at least $200 in credit left over for impulse game purchases and flipping capital. I was thinking it would be best to wait until the next B1G1 sale to make any big purchases, but I wasn't looking forward to having to wait another 5-6 months for a summer B1G1 sale. The sooner the next B1G1 the better it will be for me because that means I'll finally be able to get my PS3 or 360.

There needs to be several months before the next one for more rental conversions to happen, and then drop in price. Then hopefully we'll be getting SC IV amongst others that way ;).

Yeah, not many of any of those around here. Amongst 10+ stores, it seems there's 2 Naruto, 3 Legendary, and 1 Oblivion. And they are all at different stores of course :bomb:.

I don't think there was a B1G1 last April. I think the last one before the summer sale was the previous October.

:-k I could have swore there was a B1G1 free in April or May. My friend came along with me to a lot of the stores... plus he was trying to get the Soul Calibur IV preorder bonus without having to buy the game (he eventually slapped a preorder down on another game in exchange for the preorder bonus)

I don't know, there are a good amount of games that were hovering at the 19.99-29.99 level and one would assume most of those would be down to at least 14.99 by April. Keyword of course being "amount", so it would at least help from the flipping side, may be not so much for the keeping side.

P.S. I thought there was also some sort of B1G1 sale in April for like a week or two.

The PERFECT STORM, man! Hello!

OK, I checked out my spreadsheet. I'd say the perfect storm sale started on exactly July 8th. I'm basing this on the fact that I apparently went to 4 Blockbusters that day and spent $147 which then turned into a Ratchet & Clank PSP to keep and $314 at GS ;). Some of the other games I bought (all 360 since Wii and PS3 games were basically excluded via price increases) were: Enchanted Arms, King King, Just Cause, Bullet Witch, Golden Compass, Virtua Tennis 3, and Spiderman 3.

I made NO purchases whatsoever in April - just lots of trades. HOWEVER, it appears I made ONE purchase in March that may have been B1G1 - I noted that I bought 2 copies of Top Spin 2 for $9.99 and traded them to GC. So, yeah, it does appear there was a minor B1G1 sale back at the end of March. Now I remember that - the selection was crap as they had yet to drop many 360 games that low at that time, and there was no trade-in deal going on at Gamestop either. Note that Gamestop didn't start the constant trade-in deals thing until last summer (when the perfect storm happened - which made it seem more like a perfect storm at that time than now as they have had continuous deals since then).

And I was also wrong about the Oct 2007 date - the last B1G1 before that small one in March 2008 was way back in June 2007. I used it to buy a handful of PSP games that I traded to Gamecrazy since they had a trade-in promo for the handheld systems back then (and that was pretty much the last time GC has ever had a decent trade-in promo).

So, to summarize, we've had the following B1G1 sales:

June 2007: Mostly PSP and last-gen stuff
March 2008: A handful of 360 games qualified, can't remember anything else worth buying
July 2008: Tons of 360 games qualified and GS had the extra $5 promo - ie, the "Perfect Storm"
Dec 2008: Lots of stuff for all 3 systems, though limited at each store and hit up way harder by regular customers due to better signage, the Christmas timing, and better overall price marking - this sale was way better than the July one for keeper games though

Note that before that June 2007 sale it was all about the new game clearances at Gamerush (the last one of those was in March 2007). I'm not sure how many old-timers are still around that remember those. Of course my Gamerush closed down right after that and the clearance sales seem to have stopped - coincidence? I dunno, but I'm glad I haven't missed anything. I remember my initial motivation for building up BBV credit once my GR closed was that I was hoping to have other CAGs buy me stuff at their GR sales and send it to me. I'm glad BBV got a bit better about carrying new stuff (at the time the regular stores had NO new games or systems at all) and I didn't have to resort to that.

Wasn't too perfect for me because I was afraid to flip back then. =(

But I did drop like three to four hundred bucks (Cash! I spent cash at BBV wtf!) in boosting my game collection. So, for me it was an imperfect storm of spending way too much damn money. If the sale is gonna be July this year, this will give me time to gradually build credit and have my GF lay low.

I hear ya FoS. There were quite a few games that were sitting in the 16.99-29.99 range that I wanted to throw in the ole backlog but just didn't want to spend unnecessary credit. In fact, I think out of the last sale I only kept 3 games (Viking, Bioshock, and Kingdom Under Fire).

Also, since we had the Perfect Storm, should this last one be named the Perfect Blizzard after the weather that hit most of us flipping CAGs? It was good with the GS thanksgiving B2G1 leading into a BB/GR B1G1 with another GS B2G1 thrown in. Not to mention the short lived VVs and all the other GCs that made great stocking stuffers.

I personally am not completely sure as I was just a noob flipper and very seldom flipper up until around Christmas 07... That being previous posts mention October of 07. Also, I did a search and after thread 17, B1G1 doesen't even show up while performing a search (at least threads 13-16).

Uh, hello!

Though I am betting there was another one in between June 2007 and March 2008. The first thing I read on the link mvp828 posted (from when the March 08 sale started) was how everyone was betting they'd raise the prices on the $14.99 306/PS3/Wii games "like last time". So I guess there probably was another one in there somewhere but it pretty much only applied to beat up PS2 crap or something.

I ended up keeping 2 Wii games, 2 360 games, 2 PSP games, and I think 5 or 6 DS games on top of using the trade-in promo for Wii Fit, Personal Trainer: Cooking, and Personal Trainer: Math. Was also able to pick up a 60 Gig PS3 and still have a good deal of GS credit left, though no BBV credit.
