Uh, hello!
Though I am betting there was another one in between June 2007 and March 2008. The first thing I read on the link mvp828 posted (from when the March 08 sale started) was how everyone was betting they'd raise the prices on the $14.99 306/PS3/Wii games "like last time". So I guess there probably was another one in there somewhere but it pretty much only applied to beat up PS2 crap or something.
iirc they had one in November 07, but I dont remember any 14.99 wii or p3 games before the march sale., just 360 games being marked down.

During the "perfect storm", GS was actually giving an extra $5 per game? It's too bad I wasn't a CAG until last month.

Picked up Mercenaries (360) for $20.
I have just been using my BB credit for DVDs for my daughters.
Did you get Mercenaries 2? Was this at Blockbuster? I know we get a lot of cross-talk between BB and GS in here

Funny that around July 2008 is when I started getting into flipping.. I dunno if that time was bigger, or if the HWV $4 clearance was bigger. Because there was a time when it was HWV $4 clearance credit being spent at gamestop on legendary/Oblivion that was spent at BBV for B1G1 that was spent at Gamestop, etc. etc.

I just bought it (Mercenaries 2 for the 360) at Blockbuster this afternoon. When I saw it with the $19.99 sticker, I thought it might be a mistake, but there were a few copies. When I checked out, it rang up $19.99 + tax.

I posted that the ubisoft games down to 34.99 because of the promotion was ending/ended and that the used games would likely follow suit a few days ago (like BiA). The in store prices should change with next store system update following the online price change. So hurry and get them while you can in store :) Thats disappointing, though because i wanted to get farcry and endwar for ps3 for quick playthroughs. and wont be in gs before monday :/

Confirmed Madden 09 held at 25-- I found a Madden 09 CE and figured I'd flip the Madden portion-- then I remembered it doesn't come with the cover art. According the GS thread, it traded in with a base of 22 at Gamestop. That's not bad at all. I'll probably go that route, and then in 2013 or so when Madden 09 is worth two dollars, I'll reassemble the CE. Of course... it's not like the Madden CEs for PS2 got rare or anything. But I'm such a 360 collector for this generation, I figured why not especially if I'm breaking even with a free copy of Head Coach.

Wow io, I will definitey agree with your opinion on prince of persia's mediocrity. I think I finished it in 9.5 hours. Disappointing "true" ending, graphic glitches, way too easy boss fights, and general gameplay errors with respect to button and directional reading. Good voice overs, though... It looks like it is time to trade my own copy in by monday :)

Hmmm - If it can be finished that quickly, I should definitely try to do that at least before dumping it. I only played it for about an hour. I might as well squeeze all the trophies I can out of it, though I disagree with the easy part. I don't see how it's possible to get the playthrough without dying more than 100 times one or whatever it is. I think I died that many times in the first level trying to make jumps to places that I couldn't tell from the design whether I could really get to or not :bomb:.

It shouldn't for the fact the info being read off the disk is on the bottom. I hope you like short games because it should take you less than 10 hours to beat it.

Except that with standard dvd's (not sure about blu-ray), it is read from the bottom, but the info layer is on the top, usually right below the label. That's why scratched discs can be resurfaced. If you can see any damage/distortion from the bottom of the disc, it may be ruined.

Well so far Everything has played fine so far so if anything goes wrong I will take it back and complain that they shouldnt put stickers on the disc to begin with because they can come off in the system lol..
I dont care if the game is short.. I had credit and I just got the PS3 so its nice to find some exclusives that are a little cheaper and it would be nice to beat some games for a change this year.

Yep io, it can definitely be finished that quickly. I played through it before trading it in. The game speeds up because (no spoilers) there are plenty of areas to unlock in order to get the requisite amount orbs to unlock the 4 plate types. Once you've unlocked them, when you finish an area you don't even have to bother with collecting any orbs (except for the ones that are in your path to the next area). Also your skill level will improve with the platforming and combat.

You can make about $11+ each flipping Oblivion: GOTYE and Legendary from GS to BBV. As far as I can tell, those are really the only worthwhile flips for the 360.

I called about Buzz Quiz TV for PS3 out of curiosity. None of my 3 closest stores had any in stock and I'm not sure if they ever did (or if any stores ever did, for that matter). However, the new price in the system is $44.99, so if you can find one, that's a great deal with cheap credit.
I was motivated to look after buying a used game (with coupon) and used buzzers at Gamestop yesterday, then realizing the USB dongle for the buzzers was missing. I ended up returning it all. But with Edge and coupon it was still $37 total used with the buzzers. So, finding a new copy for $45 at BBV would be rad.

Before taxes, the used price for SCPT3 is $6.29 (tax adds another $.45-$.50). The TIV at BBV is $12, so you'd be making $5+ on the trade. Percentage-wise, you're getting over 175% of your purchase price back in trade credit, so I guess it's the best flip there is for the 360. Conversely, Oblivion and Legendary get you about 158% back on your purchase.
The only issue real issue with SCPT3 is getting your local BBV to accept the trade especially if their system won't read the barcode. One BBV I went to manually pulled up the game on their system while another wouldn't accept the game because it wouldn't scan. You also have to consider the fact that you'd have to trade in multiple copies of this game to build up a decent amount of credit. As you know, trading in multiple copies of a game to BBV is always a risky proposition.
At any rate, it would be good to know if SCPT3 is finally scanning properly at BBV. If it is, then I might look into flipping it. Otherwise, I'll stick to just trading in Legendary and Oblivion and getting $64 back in credit for about $40 in purchases.

Well I had about 15 pseudo deaths about one third through, then very few until my last plate... then i didnt finish with less than 100. I was pretty peeved by that. I had some serious control and button recognition problems though (like pushing right off vines and end up jumping up and off the map). Btw if you want some new costumes, go to skin manager and type in the pre order code 525858542. You will get the classic prince and farah from sands of time costumes.
Just be careful about pushing the buttons more than once unless prompted and let the wall runs run their course before jumping, and take your time responding to the action button kill moves by enemies if that applies.
Also, for all you people still getting in store PoP at 34.99 less discounts... If you run across the 360 PoP CE, Blockbuster does not differentiate, so you can take the PoP extra disk and slide out for keeping with no consequence :)

Also, if you sync your ubisoft account with your PSN account, you get Altair from Assasin's Creed. Beating the game gets you a costume for Elika to make her look like Jade from Beyond Good and Evil.

I understand the recurring cycle of these sales up until now, but does anyone else besides me think that the economic disaster may require retailers (including BBV) to become more agressive in their sales? I keep reading all of the reports of Gamestops used game sales profits and growth. I can't help but think that a company who is struggling, such as BBV, might make some moves to grasp onto even a small percentage of that pie. My point is that the previous time frame for these sales may not be adhered to as strictly as in years past.

Read the OP, first post, second post for prices and values.
They only give store credit. You can have them leave it on your account, which is then only available at that store. Or, you may ask that they put it on a 'value card' (basically a special type of gift card just for trade-in credit), which you can then use at any Blockbuster store. If they don't know any better or don't have value cards handy, they might put it on a regular gift card.

Yeah, but I meant in combination with the others. Better to trade in Legendary, Oblivion and SCPT3, for example, then just the first two. However, the issue of stores possibly not taking it I didn't know about. That has me reconsidering picking it up. Thanks for pointing that out! Then again, maybe I'll take one for the team and see if it will scan at BBV. One of my local GS's allegedly has it, so if I can find it there... why not? If not, hopefully they'll do it manually for me.
EDIT: Oh, question: what is BBV's policy with regard to incomplete games? They obviously take them, but do you get less credit for them?

They don't require the instructions and some don't even require the actual cover, but, that is a BIG YMMV. Generally you need, at a minimum, the game disc and coverart in a case.

I have yet to find a BlockBuster in Central Florida that will take a game without original case and art. There is a major mental roadblock that might be part of the training, and I suspect it's related to scanning the UPC.

I bought Oblivion: GTOYE and Legendary today at GS for $37.79 + tax ($2.74) using this week's GS coupon + Edge. I also bought Smash Court Pro Tennis 3 for $6.29 + tax ($.46). In total, I paid $47.27 for these 3 games. Oblivion and Legendary traded in for $32 a piece and SCPT3 traded in for $12 at Blockbuster for a total of $76. That means I made $28.73 by flipping from GS to BBV.
BBV only gives store credit. Some stores will only let you keep that credit on your account at that store, which means that you can't use that credit at other stores. Other stores will actually put your credit on a value card, which allows you to use the credit at other stores. A lot of stores don't have value cards anymore, so if you find one that still gives them out, then hold on to it. If you're lucky, other stores that don't have value cards will still allow you to keep credit on your own value card.
Since BBV only gives you store credit, you won't get a bonus for trading in for credit like you do at GS. However, you really don't need the bonus anyway since BBV generally has MUCH better TIVs than GS.

I traded in all 3 just a while ago, and as long as you're dealing with a knowledgeable employee who isn't lazy, you shouldn't have a problem trading SCPT3 in. It still won't scan, but it's definitely in the system and is tradeable. In fact, the employee who did my trade-in had to look up all 3 games since I didn't have the original cases for Legendary or Oblivion.
I don't think BBV is too picky about incomplete games, but I think it really depends on who you're dealing wth. Unlike GS, BBV doesn't dock you credit for missing manuals, cases, etc. They'll either accept your game, or they won't. IMO, the most important factor is that your game is in good working condition.

Absolutely. I have had it done, but only if the UPC is present but unscannable.
Considering I have heard this from at least a dozen stores, and including some people who are pretty on the ball, I strongly suspect it's in the local training.

Individual stores won't be able to, but the corporate office might track your trades if one of your local stores puts an inquiry on your account. I'm not sure what it takes to get banned from trading from BBV, but from what I've gathered, it really depends on your district. If you arouse the suspicion of a manager at one of your local BBVs, then they might put out a request to have your activity checked on a district-wide basis.
Your trade-in history at any one store might not be suspicious, but looking at your trade history throughout your district might land you in some hot water (i.e. getting banned from trading at BBV). However, one store won't know what you're doing at another store. You really just have to avoid suspicion at any one store, and you should be alright.
Also, you're not supposed to trade in any more than 2 copies of the same game on a given day. If you're going to trade in more than 2 Oblivions, then spread them out amongst different days.
I played about 3 hours more last night and like it a bit more. I have gotten much better at the platforming and combat.
Indeed, my problem was pressing too many buttons. I'd run along a wall and think I'd have to press X again to grab something when that would make me jump backwards to my death. Even last night when I was getting reacquainted with the controls I'd do something like that repeatedly. I think I died like 10 times just on one section until I figured out when NOT to press buttons. Now I realized you can take it much more relaxed and just press a button (either X or O usually) once the animation is complete.
Oh well, no <100 death trophy for me . But I am having a bit of fun with it in any case. I don't think there's any way I'll finish by Monday but I might just keep it anyway next week. I don't think it will drop, especially if the GS used price has now gone back up - it was definitely a temporary thing (that it was so low) and there's no reason for BBV to give any less for it any time soon.
In terms of getting back on topic, well, I'm, kind of behind on CAG in general as I couldn't read anything most of yesterday - CAG kept getting stuck just loading one page (would take 5-10 minutes). It didn't happen with any other web sites. I need to get to a GS and trade in one more set of B1G1 games and see what they have to use that 360 coupon on. I haven't bveen to a game store of any sort in 4-5 days - feels weird! ;) (Oh great, now the Gamestop web site won't load...)
So Endwar, Naruto and POP both are no longer 34$ at GS. I managed to pickup an EndWar that had yet to be repriced, but the other stores I went too were on the ball.
Far Cry 2 also... Man, GS really hosed up this week's flipping cycle. That takes out a big chunk of stuff that was pretty good with the 360 coupon. Now it is just Last Remnant, Legendary, and Oblivion GotY and none of those are as easy to find as the others were.

I got tired of Little Big Planet and Madden so I traded them in along a flipped Legendary.
LBP: $36
Madden 09 (X360): 25
I'm down to $93 in BBV and wiped out at GS. Now to decide if I really want that Archos.

I see that it has dropped to $17.99 used at GS ($12.59 with this weeks coupon).

Yeah, but that is last week's quote, so we need a new one if anyone wants to call. I'd do it but I can't even get to GS tonight like I hoped. I guess I'll get out tomorrow.
But if it is still $19, that's not bad. It would be $12.59 -> $19 with the coupon + Edge. The GS I want to go to has that, Last Remnant, and Legendary and there is a BBV right next to it that is a good place for me to trade. So that would all work out nicely.

Traded in some PS3 games still holding from last weeks coupon.
Endwar, Persia, Legendary, and
Rockband TIV $16
Now I have a bunch of useless credit at Blockbuster, and still an embarrassing amount at Gamestop.
They were offering the Blockbuster Rewards for $9.99 instead of the usual $19.99. I think it is one free rental a month and on mon-wed, rent one new release get on older movie free and rent 5, get 1 free(games too) and provide email address and get a monthly coupon for another freebie.
Even having the online membership, I'd consider it at a BB closer to home/work. Late to the Battlestar Galactica party and want to try to catch up on all the episodes before the series finale. Would take to long to wait for the mailings.

I tend to go with the PS3 version of multi-platform games as it's the more reliable system, and I prefer its controller.

Yes they carry the DS. I have no idea about the DSi and honestly it hasn't been given a timetable to bring to the states yet. Not sure why you would want one anyway. The larger screen has to be the only reason since the camera and other features seem largely useless -- and not a fair trade (IMHO) to give up the GBA slot.
You want a DS, buy the lite. It's an amazing system. You will get your moneys worth out of it and can always trade it in whenever they do decide to bring the DSi to the states.

I heard the power consumption is a bit greater as well, and, as such, the battery life is shorter. Frankly, if they debut the DSi here for as much as in Japan (roughly $180) then getting a used DSLite for about half that is a huge deal. The only thing about the DSi that intrigues me is the store they'll have to buy game stuff (whether content or new games altogether) but I guess I could just wait until the DSi drops in price or until it becomes pretty cheap used.

I had the exact same thought last night. After a little bit research, I decided to choose 360 version because the framerate is better. I would go with PS3 version if my BBV didn't have a 360 copy in good condition. They are pretty identical; however, avoid PS2 version at all cost.

Ah, I just had a huge score (for me, that is). So, I bought quite a few games during the B1G1, and I just returned two (total value: $25. I paid $12.50 during the sale), and exchanged them + $18 for:
Kororinpa: Marble Mania (Wii): Disc only, but it was in surprisingly good condition. Cost me $9.50 total, so I'm happy!
Rock Band Track Pack: Volume 2 (360): Cost me $20 total, but the code to download the songs hasn't been used! That makes me insanely happy. Now, I can just return it and have 16 free Rock Band songs (I've already bought four of the ones on the disc)...
Overall, a good trip.

Not sure how you swung that as End War is $49.99 now. My trip wasn't quite as great as I thought it would be. I picked up a Last Remnant and one GS (along with a Wii Sports that just showed up), then another Last Remnant at a second store. The Legendary they had was disc-only so I passed on that given the potential hassle at BBV (and after going there and seeing who was working I was glad I passed). The other decent games (Smash Court, Oblivion) sinply are not available around here and have not been for a long while. I then traded a Last Remnant along with one of my leftover PoP to the nearby BBV. The guy took my value card and scanned a bunch of stuff then handed me the receipt and as I went out the door I noticed he still, somehow, put the credit on my account. I got back in line and, fortunately, got a different clerk who was able to transfer that credit over to my Value card (so don't believe anyone who tells you they can't do that!).
I am probably keeping the other Last Remnant I got since it was pretty much mint (they both were, actually). It's really too bad GS bumped up all those other games (End War, Naruto, Far Cry, PoP) as they had all of those at this GS. Though getting $68 at once at BBV is probably enough .
wow gc actually stacked the 30% on top of the pricematch. will have to try this, but i highly doubt my gc will let that fly.

picked up oblivion, legendary, and smash court at gs and went right on over to gc to try the pricematch and coupon. unfortunately, i wasn't able to get the gc coupon to stack. didn't think it would, but it doesn't hurt to try right. got about $250 there now so i guess my street fighter 4 te stick and ce version of the game is paid off.

you could bring in a receipt to make it easier for them and yourself, but from my experience they will call to check if you don't have a receipt. i do it so often at my local one that they don't bother to check anymore.

I found Endwar mistagged at three different stores, so I was definetly lucky to begin with, and I guess the stacking was a reflection of the fact that they stacked the prices for me during the xmas +30% offer, so they had already set the rules. It was the store manager who did it, and I have a good dialog with him, so maybe the flipping gods are cutting me a break due to my BBV issues :)
As always I did use my credit to preorder 3 games, THAT I think is why they treat me so well.

Don't expect to see a huge clearance sale. The store closest to me closed down a year or so ago. They packed most of the stuff up for redistribution at other stores. I seem to remember io saying he also had a similar experience when the stores near him closed down a few years back.

I hope you didn't make that decision with Fallout 3 and GTA IV.
Why not? The only reason I'd be irked that the 360 version of GTA IV is getting extra content would be if they made the entire game world destructible and added back in planes and parachutes via the downloadable content.
Oh the fun I would have decimating Liberty City in Free Mode with a few well placed 747's if they made the game world more like the one in Mercenaries.

You may need to fill out a new trade agreement, my BBV transferred my info. i think this allows you have a clean slate and not have all the previous trade data. (i think)
if bbv assigns you a new number properly the only thing that will be new is the number. all the other info gets transferred over to the new number so that wouldnt change anything. you could get a person who doesnt know what they are doing and they could give u a whole new acct which would then wipe ur slate clean but unless u have a different license # it would bring up ur old account. to make it simple a lost or stolen card is not worth the time or effort because its not going to change anything.

Ive done this and it only works until your account hits the national database. As soon as you hit the database, the ban is back in place.

It took 3 Blockbusters to find one that had Season 1 Disc 1 of Battlestar Galactica to rent. First two didn't even stock it!
And I usually use the online membership to exchange for movies, so I never pay, I couldn't believe it was $4.99 to rent a movie, even old stuff!
I siged up for the rewards program, $9.99 for the year. If I use it just for the free rentals, that will be just 83 cents each.
Really want to get caught up Battestar, but no way I'm paying $5 a disc to rent, even with cheap credit. Guess I'll be hitting local library to see which ones they have available for free to rent.
One store had the Archos and DVR dock sitting there. Anyone use it for the DVR? How's it working out for the people who got it.

I hope you didn't make that decision with Fallout 3 and GTA IV.
Didn't actually buy either of those. Well I do have a GTA: 4 for flipping not play.
My 360 is my secondary console. Even if a version is slighly better on it I'd probably still go with the PS3 version just so I could stretch out the time till I get the pretty much inevitable RROD. Though i've been giving it quite a bit of play recently with Bioshock and Bully. I bought those to flip, but ended up playing them. I probably will flip Bioshock now that i'm done, but I think Bully will stay in the collection.

It's been confirmed in the Bestbuy thread that people got it for $9.99 with the Silver reward zone today. I waited for someone over there to confirm it worked before posting it over here. I'll be stopping later today.
What were the conditions for Silver BestBuy rewards membership again? Was it just the basic signing up for the rewards zone card (like xbox live silver membership), or was it the one where you have to spend a certain amount of money within a specified timeframe?

Picked up a $10 copy of Midnight Club: LA (PS3) from the RZ silver deal at Best Buy.
Traded in for $33 credit +23 bux is pretty good.
Just curious what experiences people have with BBV's closing. I've got one closing in the next week or two, and I'm wondering if I should expect to see any deals before they shut the doors, or if they'll just move their stock 1 mile down the road.
Also, other than outright asking a store, how can you tell franchise versus corporate?
Don't expect to see a huge clearance sale. The store closest to me closed down a year or so ago. They packed most of the stuff up for redistribution at other stores. I seem to remember io saying he also had a similar experience when the stores near him closed down a few years back.
Indeed. When my GR store closed 2 years ago they had absolutely no sale whatsoever. And the worst part was that the manager had no idea how it was going to be handled up until the very last few days. They ended up just packing everything up and sending it to Fresno or some such nonsense .
The only thing I got out of it was that I convinced him to give me a bunch of guides that he was instructed to toss in the trash. He did insist on ripping off the back covers though. I helped do that and of course, the ones he ripped are a mangled mess while the ones I ripped are much neater. At the time it was for a bunch of guides that were for brand new stuff - as time has passed and I haven't touched all but one (used the Rogue Galaxy guide when I played it) it turns out it wasn't worth the trouble. Many are still on my trade list ;).
About this Best Buy Silver thing, you had to have spent $2500 there in the last year to qualify, right? I know it says that in the other thread but I find it very hard to believe so many CAGs qualified for that and am wondering if there is another way (besides sharing RZ numbers). I mean, I buy tons of crap from lots of stores, but I wouldn't hit that at Best Buy unless I happened to make an HDTV purchase there or something, which would be a rare thing (I did just buy one in Dec but from Amazon and for much cheaper than $2500). Best Buy is just lacking in CAG goodness overall. Yeah, I picked up some YMMV store manager clearance stuff there but even with all that I can't imagine I spent more than $300 there all last year.

So I was looking at a receipt from blockbuster the other day (I seem to have misplaced it now some how..), and it had Viking and Condemned 2: Bloodshot on it...
I thought maybe it was an older address from the b1g1, but its from 1/16/09...
and it said
Condemned 2: bloodshot - 14.99
Viking Battle for asgard - 14.99
(and then something like it was subtracting the price of viking...and I was paying 14.99 for 2 games...)
the weird thing is, I don't have either of these games, and I bought Condemned 2 back during the b1g1...but I never bought Viking, and the most recent purchase I made at blockbuster was Bully: Scholarship Edition (found a perfect condition one there with book and poster and decided it was worth the 14.99)...but I kinda just ran in and got it and ran out without looking at the receipt, so I'm guessing some how, something really weird happened on the receipt (as I'm pretty sure I bought bully on that date) and it came out completely wrong?

I end up buying a lot of the open box/manager's clearance stuff there; if you find the right people, there's actually some good stuff to be found. I picked up a 62" 1080p DLP there last year (around $1000) so that was a good chunk of my $2500. I do some photo/video work, so I had bought a few open box HD camcorders and a DSLR back during the summer (for fantastic prices, unbelievably); that contributed a good bit as well.
I guess I really do spend a pretty good bit there, but it's 9/10 loss leader type stuff, open box/display stuff, or items with an extra incentive offered (got an 8gb iTouch for the GF for X-mas...with a $50 GC).
I think I came in about $100 over the mark for last year, so I barely made it. Still, that's a crapload of money when I look back at it, so at least I'm getting some kind of benefit out of it.

yeah that explains one, either condemned 2 or viking, but why would there be TWO different games listed on a receipt when I only bought one game? unless you're saying maybe they scanned the case then took the disc out and scanned that, and both the game disc and case were mislabeled?
sounds really odd to me?

I'm willing to bet one of two things happened here. Either A: you got the receipt of the person who checked out before you. Or B: your memory is shit, and you have no idea what happened when and how it happened, lol. Sorry, but I would say those are the two most likely scenarios. The wrong sticker thing could explain having just the wrong game on the receipt, but two games aren't just going to materialize out of that transaction. That's just my guess anyway.

Ok, well, then you really did spend that much there. It just seemed with all the CAGs reporting that they got this $9.99 game to flip to BBV there was some other way "in". Since I'm nowhere near $2500 spent at Best Buy I'm not gonna sweat that lost opportunity then. It's not like I missed out on some clearance sale that I passed up or couldn't get to in time ;).

I also don't get how any CAG can spend so much at BB. I think buying a HDTV helps but did everyone buy one last year? An HDTV is not even half of the $2500.
I rarely shop at BB anymore not even for DVDs. I'm ashamed to say that I still haven't seen TDK and Iron Man. I do go there to pick up penny guides but I would need ALOT of those guides to get to $2500.
Sorry for the OT but I haven't found anything flip-worthy (IMO) to trade into BBV in a long while so I don't really have anything useful to contribute.

Well, that is really weird.... although, you hadn't specified that you'd just bought the one game by itself; all you said was that you didn't buy one of the ones listed on the receipt. I need to work on my reading comprehension skills. Maybe they just somehow rang up the second game on accident and then had to credit it off.

It's not easy to get in, but if you are in it's easy to stay there: 250 copies of Midnight Club LA right now will keep you over the top. You trade those into to BBV for a whopping $8,250 credit at BBV. You then use that credit to buy 31 Wii's which you sell on ebay for $300 each, netting you roughly $8,000 of cool cash. You take that $8,000 and you go back to BB and buy 800 copies of Midnight Club LA. You trade those 800 copies into BBV for $26,400 of credit. Etc. Before you know it, the universe explodes, but you have a smile on your face.

I'm pretty sure I saw it for $24.99 at BBV, so that would put it somewhere in the $15-$16 range.
It's $26.99 at Gamestop, so guesstimate $7-$9 trade-in value.

I picked up 2 copies of GTA 4 at BBV during the B1G1, but I have just found out that they don't work properly (disc unreadable or some such nonsense). How would BBV return them? Is it more worthwhile just to get GS credit, or will they let me exchange the games for other 14.99 ones?

In my case, they'd start to sweat profusely, scan my card, and breath a sigh of relief when it came up I was banned. Anyway, I'm going to try to call for the four games that flip well on the 360 side to see if they held.

Blockbuster stores nationwide will be changing their hours of operation. Currently most, if not all stores open at 10AM and close between 10PM and midnight. Effective Feb. 3rd, many stores will be opening at 11AM or even noon (depending on how much business they normally generate during those hours). Many more stores will be closing early. Stores may be closing as early as 9PM Sun-Thurs, again depending on the amount of business generated during the evening hours.
As an example, my home store is open 10AM-midnight everyday. Effective the 3rd, they will be 10AM-11PM Sun-Thurs, and 10AM - midnight Fri/Sat. However, the store tucked away in the hills about 5 mins away is open 10AM - 11PM everyday. Effective the 3rd they will be running noon-9PM Sun - Thurs and noon - 10PM Fri/Sat.
Just thought I'd give everyone a heads up so you don't try getting to a store that's already closed in the evening. Also, FYI, this is "supposedly" only temporary. The move should save the company over a million dollars in labor per week. They will reevaluate the cost saving measure in 3-4 months to see if they want to continue it.
Thanks, Warner - that is somewhat of a pain, actually, as most of the stores around me close at 10pm already. I guess that means they will close at 9pm soon. I could care less for the opening hours. Hell, with the hours I keep I don't think any store anywhere should be open before noon . I'd prefer they stay open later. It was always nice, though, to have BBV's open till 10 since you could hit up the 9pm closing Gamestops (though my closest GS closes at 8pm) and still be able to stop at a BBV or two afterwards. Those days are over I guess (and really, once they save the money from it I don't see them going back, do you?).

For now they claim it will be Winter seasonal hours, but with the economy and if they do see any sort of savings I wouldn't expect for them to change the hours back. Maybe during the holidays but that would be about it.

Odd that there is such a difference in week vs weekend. All the stores I've seen are only 1 hour difference. Most around here currently do 10 S-Th, 11 F/S. So I expect those to change to 9/10. I think there is one store I've been to (out of 10 or more) that is open till midnight. Though when I was in Tucson last Fall I think one of the ones by the University was open till 1am. That was quite a shock.

Those days are over I guess (and really, once they save the money from it I don't see them going back, do you?).
Tell you the truth, I think it'll be a mixed bag of confusion. After this "trial period" is over, some stores will go back to their old hours (or at least somewhere between the new and old hours) and some will remain at their new hours. But what's going to confuse stuff even more is that there will also be "summer" hours. Summer is BBV's time. Students are home from school, kids are bugging the crap out of their parents, and everyone is inside trying to hide from teh scorching heat. Everyone comes in looking for movies to keep them busy and games for the kids. Thus, the same BBV's that are 12-9 now might change back to 10-12 again... but only for the summer. See where the confusion starts to set in?
Customer: What time do you close?
Employee: Depends. Today? Tomorrow? Next week?
Customer: When I return this video in 5 days.
Employee: Well, on the 3rd Sunday of every month we actually don't even open. But you can pay the restocking fee ahead of time so that we can afford to stay open for another week.
Customer: O_o
Employee: Just kidding. On Sunday we're open from noon to 1PM.
Students are home from school, kids are bugging the crap out of their parents, and everyone is inside trying to hide from teh scorching heat.
I think that is entirely your own regional bias there Warner (and I know where you are coming from as I used to live in Arizona). Up here, and in many other parts of the county, THIS is the time of year you are stuck indoors with nothing to do. Summer means long days and mild temps = outside a lot ;).
Of course, many places in the country suck in both winter and summer ;).
Anyway, I'm headed off to my weekly Monday BBV visit (my son takes drum lessons right nearby my local BBV and I head over there for a few minutes even when there is no other reason - like today). I'll check in vain if they have LOTR Conquest for rent I guess.

Lame about the new hours. Part of the fun of the B1G1 sale was hunting for games late at night. It fulfiled, somewhat, my dream of a 24 hour games store.

I guess the whole hour thing is going to depend on where you are at. At home in GR, MI, the stores are jam packed during the winter at all times of day. There have been times I have gone in at 11:30 on a Monday night and had to wait online behind 4 people. Summertime here it is dead though as everyone is enjoying the short summer.

:360: Legendary and Oblivion GOTY held at 32 a piece. Last Remnant 32 and Smash Court Tennis 12. Naruto: Broken Bond 32. So, it looks like all of the GS coupon flippables are still good to go. I'm glad, I didn't get any games last weekend to flip.
I tried to trade in an x360 Smash Court Tennis this afternoon and the UPC came up as not recognized or something similar. The manager wouldn't let the worker look up the game by title to trade it in that way. Is there some magic that I need to do to get this trade in done?
I think that is entirely your own regional bias there Warner (and I know where you are coming from as I used to live in Arizona). Up here, and in many other parts of the county, THIS is the time of year you are stuck indoors with nothing to do. Summer means long days and mild temps = outside a lot ;).
I agree with Io.. I used to worked at a mom&pop video store here in SoCal during college, and winter is always the busiest.
I just remembered that I used to work at Blockbuster too during college, then I got an internship 3 days after working there, quit the BB job with only 3 days notice since I have to start at the internship right away. The manager told me that I will not be able to work at any BB again for giving such a short notice.. haha.. Well, I hope not even with current economic situation.

Go to a different BB is the only option since that particular game need to be entered manually. or remove the barcode or scratched it, so look up is the only way.
IO, not bb related, but someone just posted a long list of new clearance games at Kmart, so you might want to update your post. thx.

The gamestop website lists Last Remnant at 34.99 and Naruto at 54.99, so my question is: Where do you get Naruto for cheap to make it worth flipping? I can see Last Remnant getting ~$5 in profit, and Legendary and Oblivion GOTY getting ~$11 profit each, but Naruto seems like a $10 loss. I missed something no doubt, but please humor me.

If I remember, the Naruto game was part of the Ubisoft promo they were having for the last 2 weeks where it was priced at $39.99 new and $34.99 used. However, GS decided to hike the games back up this week and made flips like Endwar, PoP, Naruto and Farcry 2 null.
However, if you hit it up the past two weeks and snagged the PS3 versions with the 20% coupon, the flips were quite good.

Yeah, Naruto is no longer good. Another one that is no longer good is PoP. However, since I'm still playing mine I kept it for this week and just asked today - still $36, so that's nice (PS3 version). Now I have another week to finish it up and squeeze all the trophies I can out of it ;). Everyone keeps saying how short it is but I've put at least 12 hours into it and I'm just over half way. But then I am going through a lot of trouble to get as many light seeds as possible.

Um, OK, I settled in for a big update and I don't see a long list of new clearance games for Kmart anywhere. Is it in another thread (and not the main Kmart one)? There were some non-clearance price drops someone posted a few days ago in that thread - but it wasn't a huge list and I didn't consider it clearance... I'm not seeing anything else recently though.

Man my BBV has such a puny pre paid game section. it is about 9 xbox games, 2 game cube, 1 ps2 game, a few guitar hero games, and 3 wii games. They have a great rental section though. my guess is they dont convert any rentals to sell. My guess is i would be the only flipper in my area if i fliped games

Or there's already another flipper in your area and they just completely raided your store during the B1G1. I haven't been to a BBV since then, so I don't know how many rental conversions would have happened in thos few weeks, though.
Man, it's been a long time since I've been here. I finally spent the time to catch up last night. Luckily it was only about 12 pages in a week since I've read it. I picked up a copy of Legendary and Smash Court Tennis this morning to flip, since I wanted a bit of backup BBV credit (only at $10.xx after B1G1). It's nice to see these are still viable flips two months later. It was also nice to find them, since all the Ubisoft games are back to full price.

Aww, Naruto got hiked back up? Weak.
But, I did check on Nietzche's price drops. Hail to the Chimp dropped to 12 dollars TIV, and Zoids dropped to 25 TIV. Not bad flips.
The store I checked (BB) said they wouldn't be even getting it in to rent, since they didn't get the first game.
Re: Skate 2... Actually, my local store had this sitting behind the counter when I was in there yesterday. I assume it was being prepped for rental. So, yeah, they never got LOTR:Conquest but they got this game I have no interest in. But I thought I'd let the asthmatic know that it does appear to be available at some BBVs anyway.

Anyway, Halo 3 dropped to $35 USED at GAMESTOP. GR was still charging (a week and a half ago, at least) $50 for the collector's edition used, so there's a TINY chance you may be able to make something out of it (depending on the TIV, of course.)

EDIT 2: Called another store, 25. Damn it! First guy told me 35. I even asked him if he was sure about that TIV. Oh well... still a flip if you can't find Legendary or Oblivion. There's another store that has Legendary and Spectral Force in stock, so I'll probably get them both.

Then, flipping Gods realized I could never find a flip, no, my only place in the flipping world is updating a list of games. I might as well be the janitor cleaning up the puke in the cafeteria. So, that's why the flipping God changed the TIV to 25 when I did follow up calls to confirm the TIV.
Speaking of a possible Wii coupon, I found a cheapie game you can throw in a pile of Wii games if you make a trade run-- Monkey King is 3.99 used at Gamestop and it trades in for 3.00 at Blockbuster. Heh.

So I traded in a copy of Cranium Kabookii to BBV for $16, which I purchased from K-Mart for $5. However, something the store manager told me has me a little paranoid with regards to the visibility of my trading history across multiple stores. The store manager remarked on how I traded in a lot of games at Blockbuster. Now, he said this in a conversational tone, so I don’t think he was suspicious or anything. However, I was a bit surprised by this remark because Cranium Kabookii was only the 4th game I had ever traded in to this particular store, and the last time I did a trade at this store was over 2 weeks ago. Perhaps that’s considered a lot of trades at this particular store, but I just wanted reassurance that since you have to establish a trade account at every single BBV that you trade at, one store can’t see your trade history at other stores.
One other thing that I wanted to mention is that this particular store scanned my membership card to pull up my account as opposed to pulling me up in the system by name. I guess you can use your membership card across multiple BBVs to pull up your account, but trade accounts have to be established at individual stores. The main store I use to trade at always scans this card, and the store I traded at today scanned this same card. Now, if my trade history came up at the main store, where I’ve traded in 9 games since late December, then I can see how the store manager would think I’ve been trading in a lot of games. However, when I first joined CAG, I remember someone telling me that only the corporate office could view your trading history across multiple stores.
At any rate, I don’t know whether I should lay low for a while with regards to trading in games at BBV. Since the end of December, I’ve traded in 19 games amongst 4 stores, and they breakdown as follows:
Monster Jam (360) – 3
Smash Court 3 (360) – 2
Legendary (360) – 3
Oblivion: GOTY (360) – 2
Legendary (PS3) – 2
Prince of Persia (PS3) – 1
Prince of Persia (360) – 1
Cranium Kabookii – 2
Far Cry 2 (360) – 1
Mercenaries 2 (PS3) – 1
Endwar (360) – 1
The breakdown of games amongst the 4 stores I use is as follows:
Store #1 – 9
Store #2 – 4
Store #3 – 4
Store #3 – 2
BTW, I traded Cranium in to store #2 today.

Nah, you're giving me too much credit. I posted it as a break even flip to Blockbuster if you were out and about (to make your pile of games that's getting an unusually high amount of trade look slightly less suspicious, but maybe I'm putting too much paranoid thought into this) , but I forgot not everyone has tax free credit at Gamestop like me.
I did check with Gamestop and the TIV is a 1.00, disqualifying it from the Trade 3 get 10, right? (Gotta be 1.01 or higher) That would have made for nice filler if you happened to only have two games to trade in for whichever reason.

I'm pretty sure he was referring to the 'trade 2 Wii games, get $30' deal -> LINK (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=209950). That would bump the TIV to $15.
May even be talking about the 'trade 3, get $10 extra' deal -> LINK (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=209897).
So this still gets $3 after the price drop? Because I had the same idea the second I saw it...
FoS said that it trades in at BBV for $3. Maybe he meant GS? Anyway, I just took his post at face value, and if he was talking about flipping from GS to BBV, this game would be a good candidate.

Aha! Now, that makes sense.

I would say that 20 games in 1.5 months was exactly what I was doing, and corporate found that to be "excessive" YMMV on your DM bothering to pursue it though. I pissed off Blockbuster by writing up a BB when my DM didn't respond for two weeks. Turn out my DM was perfectly fine with my trade history, but corporate hated it.

What's the latest on all that anyway? Have you had the pleasure of interacting with Mr. Jackson anymore? Did youre parent's account get unbanned?

Do you know anything about the visibility of my trade history across multiple BBVs? I'm not sure if you're the one who told me that each BBV can only see your trade history for that particular store and no other.

Nice. I just got back from the DMV and Just got my ID. Finally. Also, yesterday I just got an Edge Card at gamestop. I am all set to start flipping. Hopefully a good cash flip appears soon so I can Flip my first game to BBV. ^_^

If you can find any copies of Cranium Kabookii at your local K-Mart, then you can turn $5 in cash into $16 in BBV credit...

Well it looks like those of us who took part in the "perfect storm" are all to blame for the current economic status of our country:

What's the latest on all that anyway? Have you had the pleasure of interacting with Mr. Jackson anymore? Did youre parent's account get unbanned?
Absolutely nothing has changed. Mr Jackson followed up the BBB report, saying he apologizes again and saying how I got to speak to the VP of Blockbuster (YAY MR. VP, SO THIS IS HOW A HOT DOG IS MADE I CAN'T WAIT TO TELL MY TEACHER) and I responded that I don't wish to close my claim because this is not the only time Blockbuster has told its customers they are thieves for using the trade in program. I added I know of people who this has happened to before, and I think any potential customers, or current customers, who wish to review Blockbuster's BBB file should be alerted to this fact.
So, in a nutshell, nothing interesting has happened. I figured I was cluttering up the thread with my bitching anyway.
It 24.99 at Game stop, and TiV at BB is 25? is that right? so you can get a flip by buying with the 20% coupon and 10% edge. Coupon expires today. I'm just seeing if I understand correctly.
Damn, I always forget these coupons end on Thurs. I really haven't made much us of it but I may have to head out tonight. I've pretty much stayed home all this week.
Perhaps that’s considered a lot of trades at this particular store, but I just wanted reassurance that since you have to establish a trade account at every single BBV that you trade at, one store can’t see your trade history at other stores
They cannot see your history at other stores whether they scan the card or look you up by name. I've gotten the same types of comments at places where I barely trade, too. To some BBV clerks, if they simply see you in there again trading a game, that is "a lot" to them since they aren't used to taking trades. I wouldn't worry too much about it except maybe you ought to lay off the store where you traded 9 games.
I've definitely traded a lot to my local BBV so I really go out of my way to trade at other stores when possible. Even though I haven't traded that much recently I've got 4 stores where they think of me as a regular trader.
I was in there the other day with nothing else to do (waiting for my son's drum lesson to end at nearby music store) so I decided to see if anything I ever traded there has sold. Of course, all the $14.99 and under stuff is gone. It seemed most of the higher-priced stuff was still there (IU, Civ Rev, Oblivion GotY, Rock Band PS3, Smash Court Tennis). But I did notice that the 360 PoP I traded a few weeks ago was gone. So they must have sold that for a decent price - that's good to see.
