Anyone trade in Far Cry 2 for 360 recently? Curious what that gets? I'm getting annoyed driving everywhere in the game!

what does that have to do with Blockbuster/gamerush?

Nothing - but the article he linked to is titled "How a 'perfect storm' led to the economic crisis", so it's a play on our own little "perfect storm" of B1G1 deal + GS trade-in deal ;).

It was a really bad joke because we call the whole Blockbuster having a promotion at the same time as GameStop the "perfect storm". Title of the article is that the perfect storm caused the economic meltdown. It was a lame, lame joke so I apologize. You know a joke is bad when you have to explain it :D

Damn, I always forget these coupons end on Thurs. I really haven't made much us of it but I may have to head out tonight. I've pretty much stayed home all this week.

They cannot see your history at other stores whether they scan the card or look you up by name. I've gotten the same types of comments at places where I barely trade, too. To some BBV clerks, if they simply see you in there again trading a game, that is "a lot" to them since they aren't used to taking trades. I wouldn't worry too much about it except maybe you ought to lay off the store where you traded 9 games.

I've definitely traded a lot to my local BBV so I really go out of my way to trade at other stores when possible. Even though I haven't traded that much recently I've got 4 stores where they think of me as a regular trader.

I was in there the other day with nothing else to do (waiting for my son's drum lesson to end at nearby music store) so I decided to see if anything I ever traded there has sold. Of course, all the $14.99 and under stuff is gone. It seemed most of the higher-priced stuff was still there (IU, Civ Rev, Oblivion GotY, Rock Band PS3, Smash Court Tennis). But I did notice that the 360 PoP I traded a few weeks ago was gone. So they must have sold that for a decent price - that's good to see.

Thanks io. That's what I figured. I'm definitely going to lay off of trading at BBV for all of next week. I'm not in a hurry to build up credit anyway. I just want to have a decent amount of BBV credit built up before the next B1G1 sales, which isn't going to be for at least another couple of months if not longer.

Not sure whether it is worth going out or not. I found a total of 4 flippable games listed at two GS I can hit on a 30 mile or so round-trip drive (with a stop at a BBV in between to trade a couple games).

I could turn $64 after Edge/coupon into $101 at BBV, but it means trading two Oblivion GotY and I've already done a few of those. The other games would be new (Spectral Force and Hail to the Chimp). Meh, hard to get too excited for all that. Maybe I'll just stay home and play some games instead ;).

Woot, I knew I'd find a good flip one of these days. It's even better (slightly) than the Legendary/Oblivion flip.

:360: Spectral Force 3 24.99-->35 TIV at Blockbuster.

EDIT: Son of a bitch, another store told me 25. I'm going to call another one and see.
EDIT 2: Called another store, 25. Damn it! First guy told me 35. I even asked him if he was sure about that TIV. Oh well... still a flip if you can't find Legendary or Oblivion. There's another store that has Legendary and Spectral Force in stock, so I'll probably get them both.

Baja dropped to 24.99. If the 22 TIV held, then that's an all right flip, slightly above breaking even.

thanks for the work, spectral might come in handy if we have a B2G1 at gamestop

It's funny, this has come up for me way too much. In fact, just this week I've gone back to play Texas Hold 'Em in the bars-- I had taken a two month break because of all of this flipping nonsense. It can really ruin your free time, but it's also a nice money maker. It's insane how much money I have left over each month now that I pay for mostly everything in credit.

Plus, I'm doing little side projects like selling some network adapters on Ebay and Gripshift. It's really something, everyone who loathes flipping says, "WE DON'T TAKE KINDLY TO YOUR TYPES ROUND HERE, HERRR, GET A REAL JOB" but the reality is, reselling games is the perfect part time job. The hours are flexible, the pay is great, it's fun, you don't get taxed for your income, and the only asshole you deal with is your girlfriend crying and wondering why you (apparently) don't love her anymore.

Okay, maybe the last part just happens to me ;)

Longshot, but has anyone ever seen the Batman: Complete Animated Series boxset in BBV? This one (http://www.amazon.com/Batman-Complete-Animated-Kevin-Conroy/dp/B001CTXUTQ/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1232861129&sr=8-1)

Only place I can find it is amazon or ebay right now.

That's true. I've been lucky so far, but I've only sold 30 items or so on Ebay prior to the network adapters and Gripshifts. Everything's been going good so far with the Gripshifts, but I saw your post about how yours went for 70 dollars and the guy didn't pay. Ebay is way too tailored towards the buyer.

I actually had two that didn't pay, out of 7 sold. And I had two other auctions with non-payers out of my last 10 or so. So, yeah... But those weren't even the assholes I was talking about. Just wait, you'll see ;).

Anyway, back to BBV - looks like a nice little break with the PSP coupon coming up. I thought someone said it was Wii next, or was that just a lame-ass assumption based on the last two being PS3 and 360?

Assumption. It does seem like a nice break, but I want to call in a few of these PSP games just out of curosity. I know the handheld TIVs at BB are always low, but I'm curious if there's a handheld flippable. It's gotta be a first...

:psp:God of War: Chains of Olympus (29.99 before coupon) --> 12.50 TIV at Blockbuster. Fuck finding PSP flippables, that wasn't even close.

Lol. That was a good quote FoS. May have to stray away from the full priced new games and focus on the 17.99 to 19.99 games (final fantasy, maybe). Ill probably just keep buying gripshifts with this coupon if the prices hold out this weekend.

Friend of Sonic

I was thinking that Dye, but it seems like every single PSP game that's not brand new is 14.99 or under, killing the flip. However, I saw some ancient game for PSP in a Blockbuster in December, I even had it checked in the computer, which was 29.99. I can't remember what it is... but that's the key, damn it!

EDIT: It was Aliens Vs Predator: Requiem. I checked on Gamestop, sells for 17.99, but trades in for 7.00. I'll find a flippable PSP game. I know it's out there.

Some Gripshifts got sold, but not others. In fact the large majority sat there, as I slowly bought them up (I'm a gentleman, I want others to have the same opportunity as me) But for the majority, no one was biting, especially since they dropped dramatically in price. So I got the rest today. The only ones remotely close to me anymore are Buckeye and North Phoenix. I don't feel like making the trip.

I do have two receipts within seven days. I could go and get the extra 70 cents per Gripshift, but maybe I'll let Gamestop win that battle. Gotta let the beast win a few.

Im 90% sure im the only one who ever bought them in my area... and I only bought them as they sold seeing if anybody else wanted to buy in the area... nobody else did... so I've slowly cleaned some out. There's about 3 or 4 left in my area. There's still some new ones too.

Wow - I guess that while I seem to have few flipping competitors (GS->BBV stuff while often in short supply to begin with doesn't seem to sell out when it is available - and I almost never see flipped games at any BBV besides the ones I traded) I seem to have some cutthroat eBay competitors. The Gripshifts and Wii Sports pop up every so often and then are OOS the next day - at a variety of different EB/GS stores.

Is gripshift a half-decent flip, or are you folks talking about buying it to sell on ebay? I didn't see a trade-in value for it in the 3rd post (or 2nd). Dude I feel ya. I found out about this site about beggining of Dec and started flipping instantly. This is how I was able to afford my wii + 20 games + good amount of cash to boot.

As a college student, this is a dream job for the time being. Also in a college town, where no one has money, the gamestops and malls are always in stock for me to swipe whenever theres a deal. After x-mas break, one of my gamestops has 10 wii sports in stock and bought em all.

Bad thing is that i didnt bring my car up (cause of insurance $$$) so I have to take the bus and it slows me down a little. Not much, but maybe around 30 mins total...

I think most ebay flippers are college students who are taking too many credits to be able to rock a decent part time job :) I know I fall into that category, but there has recently been a ton of competition in my area. Gonna have to be on the ball now.

PS Ebay flips that are viable from GS: Wii sports, Gripshift, PS2 network adapter (some how these continue to be traded in).

So you're thinking that the influx of these games will cause BBV to want to get rid of some inventory? Is that how it usually work? So what are main things to cause people to be flagged/banned from trading at Blockbuster ?

I have traded in only a few times but each time it was large number of trade in's, once for my DS and recently for the PS3 but each time I have instantly turned around and used the credit and have never farmed it like others.. Is there any reason to be worried because even though these 2 times were about 6 months apart I do remember some of the titles being similar to an extent with the trades..

I agree with this statement. Just be polite. I did a lot of buying during the B1G1 free. I dealt with a bunch of managers as well but never had a problem.

Its a matter of logistics. They have X amount of shelf space, and X amount of games. They want to stock the newest titles that are in high demand to rent, and less of the older titles that are merely taking up space.

All of the local blockbusters around here still have many of the 14.99 games, such as NG2, DMC4, Bioshock, Mass Effect, and even some GTA4's. I assume they need a vehicle like a sale for moving that inventory out.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the next B1G1 will include titles 19.99 and under, or they will do a B2G1 on all previously played games. Granted, I wasn't around during past sales so I have very little to go on with all this speculation...

Just want to say thanks for the term "farmed". That's pretty much what I usually do, but didn't have a term for it. Build up credit at BB and GS, and slowly watch it grow at both stores and then harvest it for stuff I want.
I'm a farmer.:D
I wonder if I can get a govt subsidy:-k

The wife wants an Ipod touch so a bulk of my BB credit will be going towards that. Just got $150 in Macy's gift cards last night. Have $68 left on a VV, so just need $28 more to get the 8g touch. Most of that was built from several Best Buy 007's and one Midnight Club.

Guess I'll just watch the Archos collect dust at BB for a little while longer.

Back when the PS2 was top dog, BB often ran B2G1 sales. I think they also ran % off sales. I was amazed recently looking at my PS2 games and realizing how many came from BB.

While I definately agree you should be polite, I wouldn't suggest being honest. Even in my short tenure here, it's pretty clear to me that you shouldn't advertise flipping. Some people may get away with it and alot of clerks won't care, but all it takes is 1 that does and you're screwed.

I'd probably be in the same boat too if I wasn't saving up for a PS3. I'm basically one GS tiered trade promo (sell PS2 games) and one BBV B1G1 sale away from getting a PS3 while still having a comfortable amount of credit left over for future flips. I'll probably be able to use the next B1G1 sale to establish a solid starting library for the PS3.

Cashed out again. Used $70 in GS credit to pick up an Oblivion GOTY, Legendary and two Wii Sports. Traded the two :360: for $32 a pop, and sold the Wii Sports for $40 each on Amazon. And then used some of the BBV credit to get a few $25 Darden Gift Cards.

So ~$70 in GS credit -> $50 gift cards + $14 BBV Credit + ~$70 cash (after fees/shipping)

QFT!!!

Once I got into flipping (I've slowed down to almost nothing since the original perfect storm) I was limited to whatever was on my ride home from work and one night per week. Anything more than that and I would hear about it for days!! Nonetheless, the incessant flipping has actually gotten my wife into gaming a little, so now I can at least pull her with me every now and then to see if she wants to try a new game. :)

Hmm...am I an oddball for being a girl who loves shopping for games? :-s Before my fiance left for school, this used to be our pasttime. I think it's fun to go "game-hunting" O:)

Definitely in the minority. My wife thinks all aspects of gaming from the playing to the collecting to the flipping are monumental wastes of time that do nothing but detract from our family experience ;). On the other hand I was able to fund most of the kids' Christmas and upcoming birthday presents with it, so she doesn't mind that part of it too much.

And speaking of those presents, one was the 16GB touch. I suggest you just get another $50 in BBV credit -> Macy's and get that instead of the 8GB. Doubling the storage capacity is awesome if she is going to want a variety of movies on that thing (use the PC program "handbrake" to convert DVDs to various iPod-compatible formats). I got my daughter the 16GB and it was well worth it.

Back when the PS2 was top dog, BB often ran B2G1 sales. I think they also ran % off sales. I was amazed recently looking at my PS2 games and realizing how many came from BB.

Yeah, the history of it is that before the management change they used to alternate B2G1 and 25% off used games pretty continuously. Then there was a dead period when they got rid of all new games at regular BBV stores and had no deals whatsoever on used games. Then the B1G1 $14.99 and under started up (and they started stocking new games again) and that's the only deal we've had for nearly 2 years now.

So, anything is possible of course, but I certainly wouldn't expect B2G1 or anything other than the standard B1G1 on $14.99 and under since they've been pretty consistent with that for a while now.

Good stuff. I'm a married man myself, and I'm the proud father of a 5-month old son. I just started flipping at the start of this year. I didn't get in on the B1G1 sale right away (only caught the last 2 weeks), but I still made out OK (turned $65 into just over $300). I really only have the luxury of flipping during my lunch break. Fortunately, there are 3 Gamestops and 5 BBVs that are within easy driving distance from my workplace. I also have 2 Targets, a K-Mart, a Sears and a Toys-R-Us that are nearby as well, which means there's always the potential of finding a good cash flip.

Haha, yeah my flipping during the evening / weekend is pretty much gone after 1st perfect storm. Then Macy's GC and VV showed up, she stopped questioning me if I'm off an hour or two after work. But now since VV is gone.. forget it.. :P

Well I was 66% sucessful today. Got my emergency replacement Dual Shock 3, paid off my Street Fighter IV Fight Stick, and I've enough credit on the account to pay off the rest of my Street Fighter IV Collectors Edition whenever I choose to. But I may as well have committed flippers seppuku.

I set off with my bag full of games and determination to get me a replacement DS3 (as I broke mine yesterday), enough to pay off my SF IV Stick and CE Order, and hopefully have enough left to cover Killzone 2.

As there are 2 GameStops in the mall I went for, Gamestop #2 (ordered by proximity to the entrance) first. I traded in Dragon Quest Heroes Rocket Slime and Meteos (both cartridge only which came form GS long ago to begin with) and got Brainage 2. The guy there had no idea about the deal, i had to tell him about it be he still didn't seem to get it till he entered the 3 games in and the bump kicked in. I asked about Skate City Heroes but the guy walked over to the shelf looked and said they didn't have any. I was skeptical and scanned the shelves myself. It was there, just not in alphabetical order. So I go to trade 2 of my 4 Wii games (Battle of the Bands and Furu Furu Park) for it, also i memebered that I had a couple Soul Bubbles prepared in my bag so I put that with them along with the coupon for $5 on a wii or DS trade it.

Well I get back up to the counter but I end up getting the CSR that seems to be in a constant bad mood (to make matters worse I think she might be the manager). As I do my trade in I hear her mutter something to the effect of "Didn't you already trade one of these in..." in reference to Soul Bubbles (I grabbed 9 during that gift card deal I've no idea how many I've traded to which Gamestops but this one had 2 copies on the shelf, likey from me ). When the transaction was done she said something like you've got $x.xx. I thought she was talking total trade in so I aske her if the deal and coupon kicked in. She got rather snippy and recounted that the deals did apply and the number she said was what was going back to the card. I bit her good day and left.

Onwards to GameStop #1. I look all over but see no copies whatsoever of Skate City, I couldn't remember the entire list of games so I asked them. They were just about as clueless but told me to pick out something. From what i could remeber of the list, I picked out Skate It. That went through alright. So then I just decided why not, and said i'll just return all the games. He processed the two games from GS #2 just without batting an eye, but when he realized I wanted to return Skate It also (wasn't the best move considering who was working there that day) he was resistant as he knew I just bought it to get the boost. He called the manager and the manager shrugged and said to do it, but when he returns it to hit amount paid in credit or something so that i'd lose the $20 bonus back to my credit. I said never mind that and got the Dualshock 3. Walked out of the store and got 15' before I remembered about paying off the Fightstick. So I went back in and did that.

I'll return the Skate It to another Gamestop as I'll be traveling out of town for part of Thur. Here's the thing, when my two least favoite GS employees (who unfortunatly seem to be the managers) form GS #2 and GS #1 get together and talk about thier problem customer it'll only be a matter of time befor they figure out I flipped between their stores, and am providing them with abundant Soul Bubbles. I'm not partiularly concerend even if they ban my card I'll just used the balance left on it and grab one of those $2 cards from the PDF floating around. Actually this is kinda thrilling now seeing just what I'd need to do to get banned. Oh well my Street Fighter IV is assured now anyway so I'll role with whatever.
Yep, I screwed myself. Went in today, tried to return the Skate it to the other Gamestop. Ms. Personaility:roll: the manager was in there and insisted on handing my return, after tapping away at the computer forever she says I'll lose the $20 credit on the return "Like they told me a couple weeks ago" in her typical snippy manner. In any case I didn't return and just decided to buy Godhand and some PSP component cables. I tried using that 20% off accessories coupon that was posted a while ago. She said it was a photocopy of an original and they couldn't take it (news to me, though the coupon was part of an online deal or something). I go to the other Gamestop to trade in a GTA 4 toward my SF: IV pre-order and I'm told the DM said to put a note on my account to not accept trades. Due to the return snafoo, appearantly under pretense of "kiting." I got the DM's number (no answer there of course) and leave. I was able to do my return and trade at another Gamestop some ways away. If the situation stays like that I'll be fine.

They better not try and screw with my SF:IV preorder though.

Oh well I've myself to blame. I'll get my Street Fighter off of them and then see what I can scroung enough credit for Killzone 2. Worse comes to worse I'll finish off my credit at Gamestop and flip on eBay.

You people that flip games to Blockbuster. Just take $29.99 of your credit and buy the monthly pass. Rent the TV shows that you think she will like. My wife is currently hooked on Lost. I practically never see her at night because of that show!!!! Thus I am free to do whatever!! Before that it was Alias which had 5 seasons!!! Problem now is she is on the last DVD season of Lost (Season 4). Now I have to research a new show that she might like. Im thinking Dexter might be the next one up.

Dexter is awesome, you're the one who should be watching that. Don't know too many ladies that like that show because of it's raw content, but if your wife likes it then she's a keeper haha.

edit: oh I totally forgot my BBV reason to post: Not sure if anyone mentioned it but I'm pretty sure I saw Burnout: Paradise for 14.99. Is this everywhere?

And speaking of those presents, one was the 16GB touch. I suggest you just get another $50 in BBV credit -> Macy's and get that instead of the 8GB. Doubling the storage capacity is awesome if she is going to want a variety of movies on that thing (use the PC program "handbrake" to convert DVDs to various iPod-compatible formats). I got my daughter the 16GB and it was well worth it.
.
Googled and downloaded "handbrake". Now to figure out how to get some movies on there. Probably just put some kid stuff on there to distract them on road trips. The wife wants it more for the apps that are available, facebook, lose it, aim....

But if I'm out late every night buying Gamestop games for her to flip or picking up other things, she gives me that look. I'm definitely all right if I only flip two nights a week or so, and I almost never get that look.

But, man, when I get that look... *shudder*

Manage to score two brand new copies of Super Smash Bros Brawl today for $20.99 a piece. The box that was on the shelf was mistakenly labeled as clearance at $20.99, so despite ringing up at $33.99, the manager gave it to me at the stickered price with no hassle.

That won't fly here because when I'm out running around that means she's stuck with the 4 kids (unless I bring 1 or 2 with me which really slows me down). She has no time to eat, let alone watch TV shows . In fact, I've bought her a few cheap DVDs over the last couple of years that she wanted to see - they are still shrinkwrapped I think.

Brings back memories of last years Valentines day when i got the wife the first season of Brothers and Sisters from Blockbuster. That's still shrinked wrapped.
Hopefully the Ipod will see more action. At a minimum i'll get the free bubble wrap app for the kids to mess with. They love that and the Spongebob one, but that was $1.99

My wife uses my iPhone a bit and actually plays some of the games and such (and she is most definitely not a gamer). Also, she uses the Jared app to entertain our 14 month-old while we're driving. If anyone knows what that is, it is pretty amazing it holds his attention for so long .

So, I got a few of these End War bundles at Target (want to keep a headset or two but don't want the game). I guess I can go with BBV trade-in, or just try to sell them. It's a tough choice... (Just opened one - awesome, the game is a "real" version and not some "Not For Resale" crap - so in both cases that makes it easier to deal with).

At a few of my stores, they often go into an area behind the counter that has a raised counter to block the view of their cabinents of games and dvds, etc. Of course, I do check the items once they hand them to me, but I suppose it would be a little harder for those who buy in larger amounts.

Yeah i know its harder for those who buy a lot at once, but I wouldnt want to have to deal with going back to the store and try to convince them im not trying to steal from them. I think the 2-5 min it takes to check them in store is worth it for me just to be on the safe side

i know it's a bit OT but how much does it cost to have the net on the iphones?

It is included in the monthly fee. You get unlimited data. You can't not have unlimited data. However, it isn't cheap. I guess it is cheap if you consider what unlimited data costs on other plans, but for me it is too much money. $70 per month at a minimum - that's for calls (not unlimited) and data (unlimited). I can't justify spending that much money per month on a cell phone. So I've got an iPod touch and I use a pay-as-you-go cell phone which I only pay $100 per year for. I just don't make calls very much.

Of course I don't get internet everywhere, only where there's WiFi, I don't get the GPS, etc, but them's the breaks. I guess I can live with it, especially with $61.67 more money in my pocket each month. Yes, I could buy one new console game every month for the difference in monthly cost compared to the cheapest iPhone plan. Actually I could buy a tad more then that given that I have a Wii and not a 360/PS3.

Mind you, I think the iPhone is great, and I'm a Mac user and I'm not bashing the iPhone. In fact I think it's awesome and if I could afford it I'd have one. Also if I used a cell phone more I'd get one. For some people, they are already spending that kind of money on a cell phone plan, so for them it's no big deal. For me that's quite a jump in monthly fee, though.

$30 a month for UNLIMITED INTERNET ACCESS 24/7 on a mini-computer(aka Iphone) is cheap !

The iphone truly is a must have device with GPS, full web browsing(just no flash), video movie player(downloaded Iron Man, Hulk, and Clone Wars on mine), ipod music player, camera and portable 411 device. I don't ever pay for directory assistance any more(I used to pay stupid $1.69 a 411 call!!), I just google it or voice google it and the number comes right up ! One more small touch of the screen and my iphone dials the number ! I so love it.

Best device ever ! The only other MUST HAVE device I know of that was just as revolutionary was the introduction of TIVO or DVR so that you can skip commercials, fast forward and rewind, and record 2 tv shows at once, and get your regular shows you watch (Medium, Lost, Nip/Tuck, Prison Break, Terminator for my wife and I) whenever you want to and not when they happen to be scheduled to be on ! PLUS it only takes 40 mins to watch a 1 hour episode without the commercials !

P.S. And the GAMES for the iphone are definitely as good as many DS games out there and some better ! The newest ones boast incredible 3-d graphics and with the motion sensing, tilt gameplay controls, and touch screen ability, this device rivals the PSP and DS and games are only $.99-$4.99 each ! for directory assistance there is a google number that you can text the name of the place and the zip code and it texts you back the address and numbers and such. I will see if I can find it but it works great for me. Though I am envious of my wife's iphone from time to time.

$30 a month for UNLIMITED INTERNET ACCESS 24/7 on a mini-computer(aka Iphone) is cheap !

The iphone truly is a must have device with GPS, full web browsing(just no flash), video player, ipod music player, camera and portable 411 device. I don't ever pay for directory assistance any more(I used to pay stupid $1.69 a 411 call!!), I just google it or voice google it and the number comes right up !

PLUS it only takes 40 mins to watch a 1 hour episode without the commercials !

yea the iphone is amazing. i have one unlocked for t-mobile this thing is a mini pc. i use it so much throughout the day for entertainment, business, and communication.for the guy that cant afford 30 dollar a month phone plan honestly if you cant afford 30 dollars a month for service then this phone isnt for you. just get a cheap 50 dollar razor phone or something gay. you can also use the t-zones hack (look it up) it's a ton cheaper.

Totally OT (unless you consider the last few posts), but there's a free directory assistance from Google called Goog-411. Just dial 1-800-GOOG-411; its free and pretty rad. I mean, unless you have an iPhone, in that case enjoy your fancy-dancy speech-activated Google searching.

You can also perform Google searches via SMS by texting 46645. I often find myself firing off 'Blockbuster, [city], TX" when I'm away from home flipping stuff.

As much as I personally would like an iPhone, I can't justify that $30 / month charge. It irks me that on my 3G Sony Ericssion handset, I can get unlimited data for $15/month while the iPhone would be $30. They seem to think its justified by the fact that the iPhone is a more-capable Internet device, but I shouldn't have to pay more per month just because my phone has more features (in my opinion at least). It's the same data, same network, same speeds; the only difference is how the handset can interact with the data.

Oh, furthermore, I cancelled my $15/month data plan because I don't use it enough for it to be worth it. Part of that is because the browser on my phone is kind of a joke and my 3G coverage isn't spectacular where I live anyway, but it is what it is.

Yes, I think my $100 per year pay-as-you-go phone is probably "gay", but I'm OK with it. ;-) Plus if people call me I get to say, and honestly, "I've got a pay-as-you-go plan" and hang up. That's better then 24/7 Internet right there.

Uh, I think you answered your own argument there. They charge you more because the iPhone is an easier to use and more functional device (and those two things go hand-in-hand, though many geeks like to believe otherwise) and therefore, in practice, it is getting used a lot more then other phones for data, and the actual stats bare that out. I.e. it costs AT&T more, therefore they charge you more. Mind you, I just said, and I agree, that it is too expensive per month, FOR ME, but compared to other data plans, and given the use it gets, it is in line. I just have to wait for cell services to become more reasonable. Right now I think it's pretty outrageous in general, though it's the voice stuff that is outrageous, not the data. I mean unlimited data for $30 a month? I've got no real problem with that! It's the $40 for limited voice that I've got a problem with!!!

Straying back on topic, does anyone know of any good used price drops at BBV lately? I'm trying to move some credit back to GS however I can, and I've gotten most of the 1:1 stuff I can find in my area. I went to one yesterday, and she mentioned she had a big list of price updates. I tried to kind of insinuate that I'd like to look at the list, but she wasn't too forthcoming, so I just got my stuff and left.

The mandatory data plan is $30. That's on top of your calling plan. And yes, it's worth every penny. Posting this now on my iPhone.

so $30 a month? wow...that seems pretty pricey..hmmm..well i've got quite a few EndWars i hope still stayed at $33 so ill see just what i can do with those and really consider replacing this phone i have now with an iphone

I paid $ 5.95/month on T-mobile with unlock and jailbreak iphone. It's not as fast as 3G, but it serves its purpose since most places I go has Wifi anyway. $30/month on ATT is too much imo.

I traded Warhawk and Cranium yesterday for 23 and 16 respectively. They don't ask for the headset on Warhawk even though the receipt said warhawk w/ headset.

The $30 / month was a sticker shock to me when I got my iPhone last September, but after a couple weeks with it I was no longer upset.

And you don't even want to see my bill -- Between my iPhone and my wife's Blackberry we have to carry two data plans. Sure, we share minutes and have the old Cingular roll-over and will never, ever run out of minutes -- but our bill is still $150ish per month. At least her employer reimburses us $40 / month.

I don't believe every store is franchised in any state. The answer about franchise and flipping is in the first post.

Snippets:
"Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform ...EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store"

"Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores"

From my experience (not like it's much) you normally run into Franchise stores in smaller yet still substantial population cities/towns. I am in Kansas City. There is a franchise Blockbuster in Platte City, which is about 8 miles north of the northland. Im almost 100% sure the 2 BB in St. Joseph which is about 40 miles north of KC are Franchise. Im pretty sure the BB in Leavenworth, KS is a franchise also. Same goes for the BB in Bonner Springs.

It seems that the surrounding fringe, less populated areas have the franchise BB, while I can't think of a BB in the legitimate KC Metro area that would be a franchise.

Edit: Should I be referring to them as Franchisee stores?

Holy crap, man, for about 7 months in 1999/2000 I lived in Platte City and worked in Leavenworth, KS. I never even knew there was a Blockbuster in either place - but then at the time I wasn't into all this stuff ;). After excessive flipping through the holidays when you could flip on top of flip, I've gone cold turkey for the past 3 weeks or so now. I'm sitting on $270 @ GS and there are some good flips to BBV but I'm afraid that I picked them over too much during the "pretty good storm".

Just curious for those that have kept it up, do you find that BBV is replenishing the supply and it's easy to keep the flips going back to GS, or am I part of a majority right now?

If BBV had a better selection of used games, coupons, and better prices I would be much more interested in the flipping. However, I don't buy anything from BBV, so when it dries up it's worthless to me.

While this may be true, I wouldn't believe everything they say. From my experience, most BB employees don't know shit about anything, even things that pertain to their own job. Most of them cannot even process a trade in without help. Too many of them say things based on speculation and either guess or lie straight to my face when I ask them questions. I will believe it when I see it in action.

I've definately met BBV employees who blatantly lie to your face and make shit up. Some of the information they try to make you believe is so stupid that it's insulting. Knock on wood, at least 95% of BBV employees I've met have been very kind, helpful, and just overall good people. Five percent liars and complete idiots isn't very bad at all in my opinion. Well, dammit, I was about 2 days away from completing Prince of Persia and trading it in... Now I may have to accelerate that and finish it tonight and try to trade it tomorrow. Ugh... If they do drop the TIVs like that, good luck being competetive because then no one would ever have any reason to trade there vs Gamestop. At least GS throws in a lot of trade-in promotions. BBV used to do trade-in promos (in fact they had an extra $5 per game one for a long while) - if they drop the values and stick to no more trade-in promos then they aren't going to make it in the used game arena vs GS. They'll just become another Gamecrazy but with way worse new and used game stock to sell.

In other news, we busted out one of the B1G1 sale games tonight for something "new" to play - Untold Legends for PS3. My kids are actually enoying it quite a bit, though I don't see that lasting. In any case, it was worth the $5 in BBV credit I spent on it ;).

I have been trading a couple games to BBV over the past couple weeks, and I don't think they're replenishing the supply of games. Everything's drying up.

I managed to find a couple used PS3 Legendary's at a Gamestop where I used my 20% Edge card/coupon combo to get them for about $42 total. This was promptly turned into $66 of BBV credit, so I was happy. Then I found a used 360 Legendary at another Gamestop which I grabbed for 10% off with the Edge card (didn't use the coupon since it's supposed to only be used once). The list of games I can target are slim these days, but at least I have some BBV store credit to get Halo Wars when it arrives next month.

I suspect I'll probably be flipping very little in the next month because it's becoming increasingly hard to find used Legendary and Oblivion GOTY at the Gamestop stores I frequent. . .

I'm currently in Springfield, MO (3rd day) and all the prices have a red circular sticker and the prices are totally off then what I'm use to. I have been trading a couple games to BBV over the past couple weeks, and I don't think they're replenishing the supply of games. Everything's drying up.
Steve

I have a pretty good supply that replenishes itself from GS, but I haven't looked @ BBV. That's one thing to it's credit, the inventory check for GS online is useful when it's updated. If BBV had the same service, it would have dramatically changed my flipping activities in terms of efficiency and effectiveness.

I know there are tons of cash flips out there, but I try to do it on the side as a hobby for credit to pay for my video gaming habits. I only inject cash into the cycle to start it.

I have noticed one BB location all of a sudden has like 15 copies of GTAIV (PS3) but they have no manuals in the cases do they keep it with the game?

Also the only BB that I know of that has had a significant retock of used items was the one I dumped like 20+ 360 games to a few weeks ago lol...

Also at the location with all the GTA's I could not find the section selling new games anymore other then the DS stuff are some stores getting rid of new game sales?

I guess we just need to wait until bbv employee here clarify the news.

Warner, are you stil in BBV or out for school now?

No more BBV for me. Although, someone mentioned it came down in a Communications Update. If that's the case, it's legit. :bomb: It's something that BBV has needed to do for quite a while, so it doesn't surprise me all that much. We'll see whether it actually happens or if it just becomes something where they simply update it twice a week now (say Tuesdays and Fridays or something like that).

This only makes sense for them to update TIV more often. Could you imagine the publisher of Legendary going crazy and making Legendary's MSRP 9.99? They'd receive like 90,000,000,000 of it. It makes sense for them to adapt.

Then again, this is the company that can't update the TIV of Cranium Bukkake...

I just don't understand why these companies use the term "Must stay competitive"... Places like EB/GS, Gamecrazy, and now looks like BB are just out for the profit.

I dont see how these companies lose in taking in trades seeing they give credit and you end up having to use it at a blockbuster anyways.

I Get mad especially with EB/GS being the biggest in the market and they rob you with TIV to begin with and then rape you a second time if you take the cash trade and yet they turn around and mark it used sometimes 3x what they give you on trade in. Really the only company around that has fair resell values is BB on some games...

It just boils down to hey look these companies are making more of a profit on trades/reselling so why arent we, what are we doing wrong?

It has nothing to do with economy blah blah its all about a bigger dollar total in the bank at the end of the month...

Greatest commercial ever. Someone accidentally refers to Cranium Kabooki as "Bukkake" and the BBV employee says, "Okay... if you say so!!!" Then the commercial takes a pause from the live action to have some text about BBV's trade in program. After that, back to live action and the customer's face is COVERED. Were you thinking that Blockbuster, Gamecrazy, and Gamestop were non-profit organizations?

Of course, they're going to try and reduce their losses and increase their profit margin.

I'm just going to assume that you haven't flipped long enough to notice that half of the games being flipped to Gamestop from Blockbuster are former flips themselves. Not only that, but spending the credit earned at Blockbuster doesn't immediately boost their profit margin either.

If BBV highly overvalues its games, it will give too much trade in credit for them and charge too much for the game. That game will never sell for that high price, and eventually it will drop down to a price that is less than the amount BBV originally paid for it.

Case in point: Alone in the Dark (Wii) or Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (PS3). During the first perfect storm, they paid $16 for Harry Potter. Of the 4 copies I traded in, 3 remained at the most recent B1G1. There, they were $10 each, so I got them for $5. Basically, BBV paid $16 for them, and later had to sell them for $5. Alone in the Dark was getting like $25+ for ages, but a month later when the B1G1 started, it had dropped to $15, so it was being sold for $7.50. Every store had Alone in the Dark because people abused the high TIVs at BBV. That's how they lose money on trade ins, and why it makes sense for them financially to price their trade ins closer to what EB/GS and HWV/GC have.

And yes, all companies (besides non-profit, duh) are out for..... profit! Especially a public company like BBV, the amount of profit determines the value of the company, and subsequently whether the company is doing well enough to stay open. And yes, especially in tough finiancial times, they need to do everything they can to increase profit and make sure they stay in business.

The document is dated 2/1/09, and stated I have to return the affidavit within 5 days from receipt - odd that they waited this many months to inform me then turn around and put a rush on the individual to return paperwork - no complaints though; I had totally given up on this contest months ago, very nice surprise (8-10 weeks to receive prize from date affidavit is received/reviewed).

I got the same notice 8 weeks ago. Faxed the forms but alas...still NO Wii... Not sure if anyone else who received the notice actually received their "Wii"...

Take it from me, notifying winners of contests can take a long time. I work for Xerox Corporation and part of my job is doing just that, notifying winners. The process can be strung out because the original winner doesn't qualify, or doesn't respond, etc, and you have to give them a week or two. If another alternate doesn't respond, that's another week or two. The process can take weeks to months.

Well, I finished up my PoP game last night just because of the posts yesterday. I will definitely be trading that in today, maybe along with an End War if that held (will have to call). The thing is, do I do the easy thing and go to my local store (when I already traded the 360 PoP) or go to the store in the other district, which means a 30 mile round trip? :-k...

Recognized, are you kidding me? Every employee at that store looks up my account without even asking my name . But yeah, I traded the 360 PoP 3 weeks ago or so (and they sold it I might add) so I'm probably OK on the PS3 PoP. I think I traded an End War there already, though, so if I go local I'd probably have to skip that. Since my End Wars are new and sealed, though (from the Target headset bundles I got last weekend) I've just been ebaying them and getting just a bit less than the BBV trade-in value (from last week - $33).

As long as there are still viable 1:1 flips from GS to BBV to move credit over for B1G1 sales, I'm fine with BBV changing their TIVs to match their competitors. That means I'll only be flipping games from GS to BBV when GS has their 20+% off coupons.

Paranoid? Have you been following the random-assed bannings around here? I stiopped doing more than 1 per store a long time ago (I also had my own temp ban over a year ago that was the result of trading 2 of the same game - even though for different systems). How many Gamestops were you limited at? According to them, they were told to put the note on there by the DM so is it going to follow me around? Interesting note - when I called my local BBV for the End War quote the manager answered and said (jokingly) she'll give me the quote if I preorder Street Fighter. I'm a bit surprised she would even make that joke considering they didn't get my last 3 or 4 preordered games in, ever (and she knew it was me on the phone)... Though maybe that was part of the joke (she had answered the phone with the preorder blurb before I even had a chance to speak so obviously BBV is pushing these).

Now, I've been soured on the preorders for a while now because they never get them. But I'm sure as hell not going to waste what little BBV credit I have left on them now if it becomes so much harder to build up that credit. I'd rather save what I have for a future B1G1 or further discounts in the new game sale (still waiting on Boom Blox to go $20 or less). I also may have to buy one of their $50 DVD players (which I think they are giving away free rentals with) as the one the kids use seems to be on the fritz...

Think I'm gonna head in in a few minutes and trade PoP and get a quote on End War to take to Gamecrazy... I want to keep the End War sealed though in case GC doesn't do the match. I'll just be honest and say it was from the bundle with the headset and I only wanted to keep the headset (which is 100% true).

I would dump anything and everything ASAP! I just got word from a BBV employee that starting Wednesday this week trade values will go down day by day to be closer to competitors, meaning that Blockbuster values are dramatically going to decrease. In the update the employees got, it gave examples of new games that currently and would continue to get fetch $35 (i.e. LOTR Conquest) dropping to $25 trade. Looks like this could be the end of getting deals trading to Blockbuster...

This would be the time for Gamestop to get more competitive with their TIVs and make of themselves a more attractive offer for the game-trader... HA! They never were in the past, so why start now?

On the other hand, since GR probably won't be getting many more of our used games the way it seems to stand now, perhaps they should bring back some of their older offers like "trade 2 get new game for $20" or whatever it was they used to do...

I think this thread is about to start getting ALOT shorter....

So Gamestop is banning people more and Blockbuster is dropping their TiVs. How long untill BBV gets swollowed by the Gamestop beast and they are the same thing.

I got like one or two good months of flipping in. Then I get laid off, I get trade banned at the Local Gamestops, and now BBV's great TiVs come crashing down. It looks like I'm out of the games. Hopefully I can secure Street Fighter IV and Killzone 2.

I guess we should see how the climate of BV TiVs are effected before we proclaim total doom and gloom.

I remember kind of this same attitude when I was whoring poker bonuses online. Everyone thought the sky was falling but poker is still there. That was something to be really upset about because people were making a good living from that crap and this is nowhere near that magnitude.

Accept this, there will be changes. How you react to the changes is up to you.

I guess we should see how the climate of BV TiVs are effected before we proclaim total doom and gloom.

Well, to be honest, it just kind of puts us back to where we were 2 years ago or so - BUT, with the notable exception that BBV no longer has trade-in deals like the aforementioned trade 2 get any new game for $30 (back during last gen). Or the extra $5 per trade - and remember at many stores those ran concurrently. So while you never got $30 for any one game (this was last gen so they rarely ever got that high) you got quite a deal with the $20 off a new game or preorder coupled with the extra $5 per game. At that time trading break-even stuff or even at a small loss on the base price was perfectly fine.

Then, when those deals dried up I don't really remember all this GS->BBv flipping starting up until really recently. And for the most part, that is the only kind of flip that relies on $32-$36 TIVs from BBV. Honestly, I don't remember seeing those before the summer much anyway - or at least it seemed we had no way of taking advantage of them. Really, it's only been since the perfect storm and the build-up of a great deal of GS credit by many of us that the $25->$35 flips from GS->BBV made any sense I guess.

We'll just have to get more creative on the lower-end stuff. The only problem is that most of the flips will go back to cash flips like it was in the past - things on clearance at Target or TRU or whatever (and no CC hurts that as well). Those are always more YMMV to find and it means you are spending cash so I'll most likely sit the majority of them out.

Anyway, we'll see what's up and if the big changes are here then I think it is definitely time for a new thread. FoS, I should be around working most of tomorrow - just let me know when you are there to take the third post and I'll make the new one.

Kinda OT, but I pre-ordered both Street Fighter 4 and Killzone 2 at BBV. Should I be worried that I won't see these come in at all? I confirmed last night that both are in the system and good to go when they come out. Now I'm a bit worried

Not OT in the slightest - this thread is about all BBV game-related issues and preorder discussion is pretty much dead center on topic ;).

Those are pretty big releases and chances are they will get them. Some of the ones I preordered and didn't get were "non-featured" preorders. That is, they were in the system but not advertized in the store.

However, 2 of the ones they did not get were the GHWT bundle and Animal Crossing for the Wii, and both of those were featured. They eventually got GHWT in about a month after it came out. They still haven't gotten Animal Crossing for sale.

They tend to be better about the big-time mainstream releases though. However, "in the system and good to go" means jack-squat as they had both of those last 2 games shown as on order the whole time leading up to release.

In other news, the $50 DVD player was a no-go because it does not have optical audio output... I'm off to bed here soon - can't wait to get up late morning Pacific time here and find out what happened with BBV trade-in prices. Oh joy oh joy!

Quick summary: someone - I think it was Warner - posted a few 50-post pages back that BBV was cutting costs by shortening up their hours a bit. I think he said it was supposed to be temporary, but many have their doubts.

Yep, they are calling them "winter" hours (this is actually posted on the door of my local BBV). My local store is only open noon - 9 pm on most days. The only exceptions are that they open at 10am on Tues (presumably because that is a big shipment receiving/new release movie day and the manager is usually doing lots of stuff then) and close at the late late hour of 10pm on Friday and Saturday.

The process can take weeks to months.Remember Taco bell's Win it Before You Can Buy It contest to win an original xbox? They came out in what, November?
I received a notice I won in the following May, maybe April and sent back the forms. I gave my parents' address because I was moving from Virginia to Georgia around the end of the time frame given for shipping the prize. Of course, the day after we move my parents call and tell me I received a big box at the house. Of course it died four months later and I went through multiple fixed and replacement boxes over the years. A buddy told me "You get what you pay for."

I'm as worried as everyone else that the flipping between GS-->BBV is really going to dry up, but at the same time it makes me laugh to think we are THIS worried about a company that allowed the Monster Jam TIV to sustain that long, and has yet to figure out the Cranium Bukkake fiaso. They've been completely incompetant for this long, and suddenly we worry that their new system is going to be fool proof?

My expectation is that the easy hits will be gone. They won't give us $36 for something we can buy for $28, but I imagine there will be a few gems every now and then that we can prey upon for a week or two until they figure it out.

That's why there is the benefit of things like this on CAG, because we can pool all of our experiences together and benefit for the greater good.

There's always eStarland for trade-ins. I haven't used them, but the quoted TIV's on their site are remarkably higher than GS.

If you guys are still looking for confirmation I can confirm. Here is the direct quote:

"GAME TRADING BUY BACK PRICE ADJUSTMENTS

This week we will change our game trading buy back pricing structure to be more aligned with the Buy Back prices of our competitors. On Wednesday, February 4, stores with Most Wanted dry erase boards will need to revise the titles listed for this week instead of using the list provided in eMAP 5 (effective dates Feb. 2-Feb 8. Below is the new list of titles and buy back prices.

Additionally, all stores will discontinue accepting trades on GBA titles on Feb 3.

LISTS SOME TITLES AND NEW PRICES BLAH BLAH (Worth noting that Afro Samurai, Skate 2, and LOTR: Conquest are all fetching $25 under the new system. These are brand new games so I think that BB's ceiling for TiV's is going to be 25 now.

Effective dates for Buy Back Pricing Updates in POS

X360 and PS3 will be adjusted Wed. Feb 4
Wii and DS will be adjusted Thurs. Feb. 5
PS2 and PSP adjusted Friday Feb. 6
Xbox and Gcube Sat. Feb 7."

So there you go. Straight from the horses mouth. I don't think this kills flipping only makes it more difficult. Waiting on sales and the right coupons will now be key.

VERY VERY sad news about BBV...but hey, hopefully they'll still do B1G1 in a couple more months...or maybe they might just drop selling games altogether..only time will tell

Forgot to mention the good thing that I can confirm. From 2/17-3/2, Blockbuster is having "Customer Appreciation Weeks".

-All stores will be holding Customer Appreciation sales. Included in the sale will be PPG (Games), discounted PVD (used movies) and clearance general merchandise and licensed product.

-Could be a B1G1 sale again already. There is some more info being sent to stores today. I head into work in about a half hour so I'll see whats up.

It would definitely be nice to get another B1G1 sale in a couple of weeks for BBV's customer appreciation sale. As far as flipping to BBV goes, I think we're all just going to have to make sure we build up our BBV credit slowly in between B1G1 sales instead of waiting until the actual sale starts to trade in our games. If we're diligent about finding decent flippables between B1G1 sales, then we should still be able to cash in on BBV to GS flips. However, it does suck to be limited in our flips from BBV to GS.
