Did anybody by some strange chance venture into my neck of the woods and buy a used copy of Legendary from the gamestop on Brinker in Denton, TX in the last day or two? Just curious.

It would seem kinda odd for somebody to actually buy it for themselves on purpose, considering the abysmal reviews it received.

I live about 25 mins away and pass by Denton when I go to Winstar, but I have never went to any GS or BBV there. I saw a Legendary on 360 & ps3 through the website that were in my area, but they were gone the next day before i could get them too.

Yeah, as far as I knew, there weren't any "regulars" that ever venture into Denton, but maybe somebody took a long trip making rounds (or maybe a lurker, dunno).

I made the rounds through some Lewisville-area stores.... so that might have been me if that's your area. I don't make a habit of hitting up that area, but there was jack crap here in Denton and Hickory Creek.

I actually had the damn thing in my hands on Saturday, but it would have all been cash out of pocket, and the other two games I would have paired it up with for the B2G1 weren't that great, so I passed.

Anybody buy that Archos yet? Just wondering how's the TV output looks like.

If it's good enough, it's cheaper than paying for TIVO or monthly fee to my cable company.

Sweet, I alread got the Yoshi and the Bob-omb/Paragoomba double pack, but I might need to round out my collection now. Unfortunately, most stores around me don't have any, and I can't remember exactly which one (out of like 10) did. Thanks for the info hawaiiboy, and especially for the 12/23 confirmation! All my plans would have been ruing if this started on the 24th instead.

I've managed to snag a couple of the Archos 4gb's in the last few days (one for me, one for a present; not hoarding!), and I have to say I'm pretty impressed with it.

In all honesty, I haven't had a ton of time to check it out (really only loaded a few files to listen back to in the car), but it seems like a good value for the price ($99...all credit, of course...:)

I would love to grab that DVR dock for $60, though...I'll have to be one the lookout for that! BTW, if any of you are grabbing this and want a cheap SD card for some memory expansion, I was able to score a 2gb SD card from my BBV for around $12.xx (clearance price, but confirmed at multiple BBV's). I know that's not the hottest price ever for a 2gb card, and you could probably save a few bucks getting one off newegg or something, but but then I really don't consider it unreasonable either, esp. if you've got a ton of credit to burn.

:D I'm definitely in for the Mario figures for 2.99. Thanks!

Aw, man, one of you guys has to get these for me if/when they drop. I still haven't seen a single one across 6+ BBV stores. (Hollywood Video, on the other hand, has them!).

So I'm going to run out now in my only window of the week to leave town. I guess Last Remnant is the only new prospect (but only have 10% off coupon for GS right now ).

Why would you do that, you spend $x transfering from BB valuecard to VV, now you want to go back? Just keep it until you spend it (and you can spend it anywhere including BB, whereas if you go ahead with that plan you are stuck at BB).

I had the same brain freeze. I was holding a $100 Visa and thought I'd use it during the B1G1, but then realized i'd be paying 12.95% sales tax(7% state and 5.95 activation fee on the card).
Still trying to use it sparingly. So far for $$33.xx I got 2 copies of Soul Bubbles, 2 copies of My Baby Girl(both Ds Xmas presents) and $20 gift card for Toys R Us.

There's a new thread at SD (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=339051&t=1081635) about a 50% off sale at BBV starting the 22nd, I'm not sure if it's the B1G1 sale people here are talking about, here's a quote from someone who spoke with a BBV manager about it:
Okay...I just got back from the BB @ Clemson and Hardscrable in Columbia, SC. According to the manager, this sale has yet to be announced to the public. He informed me that the notification he received from corporate stated that ALL pre-played XBOX 360, PS3, and Wii games would be sold at 50% off minimum starting Monday (12-22-08) when stores open. He also said that there would be 30-40% off ALL NEW STOCK for all platforms. I asked him to let me see the communication he received...why not right? He laughed and said "NO way man...you'll probably post it to fatwallet or something!". I told him he was right and that fatwallet was an evil place.

Might be old news to you guys, but I thought it worth posting.

When it gets down to a low number it's hard to use the whole thing. I suppose plenty of B&M stores can split payment, but it wouldn't be particularly useful online.

I actually bought 2 $50 giftcards and got 2 $5 promotional gift cards. I used them all to buy a VV and Arcana Heart. Noone has has mentioned diddly about using cards to pay for cards.

Ultimately I'm just trying to slim down the amount of cards I'm carrying. Between BBV, TRU, my regular card(s), punch cards for free coffee (or), and some other random stuff I've got quite a few cards in my wallet.

I attempted to buy some Visa cards, and immediately she asked what I was going to pay with. I sheepishly said "credit card" because usually they don't ask you... you just pay for the damn thing however you want. Then she asked for my ID, and I panicked, afraid she'd swipe my credit card on my behalf. So I acted surprised that I still had a value card and asked if I could use that. She said, "No." I left, and I saw her whispering to another employee and staring at me as I looked at games. So, that's bitch manager number #3 I've ran into so far. It's one thing to turn me down on the Visa cards, but I don't think you have to talk about the customers WHILE THEY CAN STILL SEE YOU.

Ah well, I went down the road and got the two cards I wanted. Here I come Rockband (God willing) and Ace Combat 6 bundle. :D

Also... business day #2 that corporate hasn't called me back. How long should I give them before leaving another message or attempting something else?

This is a partial list first posted by cg1407 in the last thread. These are additions they made in November to the stuff they already had (Jinx, some phone cards, PSN (I think), Microsoft Points, and probably Wii Points and several others I can't really think of):

AT&T Select Value $15, $25, $50, $100
Applebee's $25
Chili's/Roma $25
Darden Universal $25
Macy's $25
Macy's $50
Olive Garden $25
Pizza Hut $20
Red Lobster $25
AMC Theatres $25
Bass Pro Shop $25
Bass Pro Shop $50
Burger King $10
JC Penny $25
JC Penny $50
Regal Cinemas $25
Subway $20
Verizon Select Value $15, $30, $50, $75
Virgin Moble Select Value $10, $20, $50

Is there really some underlying animosity among Slickdeals, Fatwallet, and CAG that I'm unaware of? I'd assume information gets cycled among all of them all the time.

I believe the consensus around here is that CAGs are typically nicer and less greedy than people from SD and FW. Since you don't register for those sites, you can have many more lurkers/hoarders to ruin deals for the rest of us. Also, it seems like CAG gets most deals before any other site, and they're often stolen, without credit, and posted on SD and FW.

I remember that - it was awesome. More recently they pinched my Kmart clearance thread list. But I had sort of designed that to make it not too easy to follow - ie, there were a lot of games that were old drops and would be very hard to find. So some of the people posted in their thread that it must be YMMV because they couldn't find any of those games. In reality, there were maybe 5-10 "hot" new clearance drops that CAG's who followed the thread knew to look for (they were in the list, just with a bunch of other stuff).

Well, in other news, I finally got out for a bit today but it was slow going. I managed to get to the Mall, though, which was still packed (WTF? - the parking lot was an icy mess). The GS stores there had NO copies of Last Remnant (or Legendary or Oblivion GotY) but I did manage to trade a few HWV games. I picked up 1 Singstar bundle at Sears but it was $14.97 at this store so I wasn't too excited about that. I can't get it to a new BB any time soon with more snow expected tonight. I may have to hold on to it till next week. And that was about it - took me 4 hours...

I don't know what to make of this 50% off sale. I would be inclined to scream "FRANCHISE" but the post specifically points out the manager mentioning "corporate". so who knows. I find it hard to believe they would have 50% off all used next-gen games AND a B1G1 free on $14.99 and under games, since there would be many that would be under $14.99 after 50% off. Or if it didn't apply unless the original prices were $14.99 or under then it would be too damn confusing for most people. Anyway, we will see... I just hope the weather gets better by then - it doesn't look good.

^ in regards to 50% off game. I saw the flier today at local bb and it basically says up to 50% off new game. And they already preparing a table full of games.

The game on the flier is sc4, mgs4 at 1st post price. It led me to believe that it's not abig of a deal, just marketing of their current clearance price.

Not necessary trolling jdawgg.

I've been buying a lot of new items at gamestop and flipping them to blockbuster, just out of convenience. I have gotten lucky and found 3 copies of legendary used in the past few days, but flips like Oblivion GOTY $30 new to $35 at BBV and Alone in the Dark Inferno PS3 $30 new - $35 BBV are good too. Even both versions of Legendary brand new are $30 GS - $35/36 BBV.

Just a tip, these new flips are excellent for covering your visa fees and much more widely available than used copies. Especially if you're trying to turn credit from HWV $4 games into Vanilla Visas, which I have been doing.

I must have bought about 30-40 games at hollywood video this week. All my stores got replenished.

I'm hoping for this too, but you should really be asking Santa instead.

Jesus is better than Santa anyday...ask Him....Can Santa turn water into Wine? ...no he just creeps into peoples houses and eats all their cookies, and drinks their milk.. and live in a colony of men. I think mrs. claus is just a cover up!!

I told him he was right and that fatwallet was an evil place.Might be old news to you guys, but I thought it worth posting.

I don't think these are related...I have seen the flyer that you are referring to for weeks in my store. The flyer is regarding new games while the above quote is regarding used games.

That half off next gen games is promising.. not many of my stores have much though.. I'd like to get DeBlob for $20.. but most of their next gen stuff is way overpriced. Which is why flipping works.. ;)

I wonder if you could buy a copy of infinite undiscovery for $25ish and trade it in for $28.50 still? lol

You have been able to trade cranium kabooki for $16 and buy for $10 for about a month now, so anything goes at blockbuster, i suppose!

Trading in two new copies of Smash Court Tennis 3 gives you roughly the same return as a copy of Oblivion GOTY\ Legendary ($20->$30 vs 10%\20% off $27-> 35). Two new copies of Monster Jam get you even more...

USED copy of Monster jam = Credit of $2.11 on the dollar

Used Oblivion/legendary = $1.63

NEW Smash Court = $1.50
Used SCT = $2.08

Yeah I definetly get SCT and Monster Jam if possible, but Oblivion, Legendary, and Alone in the Dark all are nice bigger trades to move credit. It doesn't take multiples, and they're more available in my area at least than Monster Jam or SCT are.

Plus trading 3 games per visa is less suspicious than 5 or 6 and is easier than trading multiples to multiple stores, unless you have a convenient route. Not arguing, just saying there's pros to both.

PS3 version costs $30 new at gamestop, trades for $35 or 36 I believe. Used is even better. $26.99 - $21.XX with coupons.

I'm always about trading volume - Getting the most credit moved from one place to another in a single trade. I'm always paranoid BBV employees are going to start denying me trades or talking together about what I'm trading.

LOL, I love trade in volume, but around here Its hard to find good trade fodder, the pawnshop used to always get good flipables in, but since gas went down the pawn shop has only gotten in crappy PS2 stuff. about the only time i trade in volume is when K-mart has a clearance, or I make it up to the 4 GS's in Fort Wayne.

The store I go to got word from corporate. It apparently was on the same memo that mentioned the start date of the B1G1 sale.

I went in to my store today and asked about any potential game sales and they said there is something and it was to be in a packet they were supposed to get today but didn't - she told me to check back tomorrow. I'd imagine most stores have said packet though so the info ought to be widespread. What is unsure is this used game sale in addition to B1G1. Unless someone is just mixing that up with their (ongoing) "up to 50%" off new game clearance - which is nothing new (SMG is 50% off, many others are 30% off or so).

All these are based on getting tax added to your trade from BBV.

I appreciate the effort but that makes the numbers fairly meaningless to most people - not many get tax added and it will be different in every case anyway ;). It's always better to disregard tax in these sorts of things and let people go from there depending on their own conditions...

In any case, I may have to go for some of those new games at GS as I can't find any of the used stuff any more. I have yet to trade a Legendary so that would be a good one to snag new. I have a feeling between getting VV's and fodder from the B1G1 I'll need some more BBV credit...

In other news, I realized I had several Coke Rewards free rentals that are set to expire on January 19th. I needed to start using those ASAP! My kids wanted to try out Wii Music (my 6 year-old had fun with it in GS the other day so I figured it was worth a free rental at least). Of course their 2 copies were out so I snagged 2 360 games that are new but I'd never think of buying anywhere near retail, even in BBV credit: Sonic Unleashed and Tomb Raider Underworld. The boys are playing Sonic now and seem to like it. We just found out school is cancelled tomorrow for the third day in a row, so this will help keep them busy - and I'm glad I snagged them tonight instead of trying to do so in the snow tomorrow. The Tomb Raider game is more for me - I enjoyed Legend quite a bit so I figured why not.

So, I called that bullshit customer care line on the receipt. They don't give a shit and I waited thirty minutes on hold to hear that. I even asked straight up, "Should managers be telling their customers they've been reported to the police?" She responded, "I can't do anything about that sir." She did forward my complaint to corporate. We'll see how that goes.

I did get one interesting nugget of info. She looked at my account and was under the impression that I traded in six Alone in the Darks. I said, "No, that's three for the 360 and three for the Wii. They're different games."

So the asshole managers who I have never met conspired against me because they can't tell that I traded in games for different systems.

Wow! GTA4 for 15.00 AND the b1g1 free? I need to start making my list of keepable games with this b1g1 free.

I definitely need to pick up my old copies of Stranglehold CE and Dark Sector... and a GTA4 for the 360 (DLC)... maybe second copy of Professor Layton's.

I dont know about this "50%" though, on new games. That seems a bit too nuts, buying 2x 54.99 games would make it a b1g1 free.. and they always limit it to 14.99 in the past. I can, however, see them doing up to 50% off "select games"... like the games that received price drops but BBV never updated them.

I think we're fairly certain the "up to 50% off" on new games is nothing more than the sale they have been having for some time. Perhaps they are just choosing to promote it during this period ;).

But let's revisit what that original post said:

He informed me that the notification he received from corporate stated that ALL pre-played XBOX 360, PS3, and Wii games would be sold at 50% off minimum starting Monday (12-22-08) when stores open. He also said that there would be 30-40% off ALL NEW STOCK for all platforms.

It doesn't even say "up to 50% off" on new stuff (did someone else mention that?). Anyway, the 30-40% off new stock is pretty much what they have now (though they have SMG at 50% off). Now, it is by no means on ALL new stock, though probably 80% of it - pretty much all but the very newest releases. Since nothing major has come out the last week or so I could see them moving all new games to 30% off minimum starting next week - that would make sense given their current (ie, ongoing) new game clearance strategy.

The part I have a hard time believing is "ALL pre-played XBOX 360, PS3, and Wii games would be sold at 50% off minimum". That is essentially extending the B1G1 to all prices and not even requiring the purchase of 2 games. I suppose it is possible if they really want to clear stuff out, but, wow, that would be something. I know I'd snag a Boom Blox for $10 if that happened - probably lots of other stuff too. I may even finally try out this Halo thing I hear so much about ;).

Supposedly a Trade 2 Get $10 deal will start after the 20/30/40. It basically means that there will be tons of games that would be at least $5 BB -> $9 GS.

If anyone wants to cash out a bit of their credit, FYE pays $13 cash for GTA 4. So that'd be $7.50 -> $13. If you want credit, they give $16.25.

In all likelihood something new will replace it - hopefully the trade 2 next-gen titles get a $10 bonus deal. That was a key ingredient of the perfect storm last time. It seems improbable that they would both come together again for a second perfect storm just 6 months later, but we'll see...

If not that, then maybe we'll get a weekly coupon or two from GS for trade-in bonuses during the BBV sale.

Or maybe GS will finally end all the trade-in promos and we'll get nothing. A year ago or so they didn't really run all these continuous trade-in promos. Even then, though, there will be decent things to trade to GS - would just have to be more selective.

Someone in the GS tiered trade thread mentioned a week or so ago that a manager at his store said the trade 2 next-gen get $10 was coming back in January through February to replace this one. Of course, that could just be speculation on the managers part, but it has been the case for the last 6 months at least. I guess only time can tell.

I hope the info about GTA 4 dropping is true. I've got at least 6 for each console at each of my stores. Plus, if they are all converted rentals, there is a chance they they were nice and kept all the stuff that goes with them (map, manual, and 1-month Xbox Live Gold trial!!!!!). That could be a nice little bonus if you get a bunch of free Xbox Live.

You can buy ANY denomination over $5.

I ordered one for $29.98. :D And yes, they send the card pretty much instantly, unless it's declined. When I tried to order a $100 gift card from a $100 Vanilla Visa, it was declined because of a $1 authoization charge. As long as you don't get more than $50 in Amazon gift cards per order, you'll be fine.

My Wii from the contest arrived today. I'll have to go pick it up from the local UPS depot tomorrow, since there's a sig required. Keep a lookout, guys. :)

How long did you have to wait for that authorization charge to go away? I made the same mistake before reading the thread and finding out the troubles. I've canceled the GC order through Amazon, but that $1 auth charge has been sitting there for 4 days, leaving me with only $99 available. My planned Amazon order is between $99 and $100, and I'd kinda like to have the whole card available to cover it.

And neat that you got the UPS call yesterday too. That was my first clue... I thought today was going to be the first delivery date, but then I found the info tag inside my front door. Luckily, I work within 2 blocks of the UPS depot here, so I'll just walk over there at some point today and get it.

You'll have to call Vanilla Visa. They're waiting on Amazon to go through the transaction before clearing the authorization charge and the authorization charge won't go away until the gift card is bought... and the gift card can't be bought because there's only a balance of $99, heh. So, yeah just call VV customer service and they'll cancel the charge.

Hmm, that makes me suspicious. I didn't receive any note from UPS yesterday. I wish I'd written down the tracking number when I got my call. I typed it into UPS.com, but closed the window so I don't have it anymore.

That's what I gather.

You buy GTA4 for essentially $7.50 a piece, plus tax.
Trades in at $14.00 including the bonus 40% when you manage to gather up enough flip fodder.

BBV->GS flips are always much harder to come by than GS->BBV flips. At least, before Vanilla Visa was introduced.

I think the biggest thing here is the enormous supply of converted rentals that every single Blockbuster is going to have. You can check Second Spin (http://www.secondspin.com/) to check the buyback values at FYE. Just choose "Sell games by title" in the search criteria. The values they list are the cash they would pay for it, but if you take store credit, you get 25% more.

IIRC, there were a lot of nice email coupons during that time as well. It was a lot easier going from GS->BBV because of the 25% off every week. But, if there are no sales on used games at GS next week then it might just be:
BBV->GS = Major gain
GS->BBV = Even or slight gain

Ok I just left BB about 15 min ago and the B1G1 starts tomorrow for sure she was telling me the table of games were all 14.99 and that's what she had been doing all day was getting ready for tomorrow
This will be the second busiest shopping weekend of the year. If Blockbuster has a clue(which we know they usually don't) they would start this promo sooner. I'll hit some on my way to work to see if they tables are being set up like last sale with all the qualifiying games.
Need to get an Olive Garden gift card for wifes birthday tomorrow anyway.

I wanted to buy crackdown for 9.99 but i figured i would wait for the B1G1, when i went to the register i asked her if the table of games were B1G1 and she said right away no thats starting tomorrow, and I said are you sure and she said yes I have been setting up all morning long for it. I've traded that many of the same game to different stores within the same day. They're all the same district, too. I've never had a problem trading in or with Jr. Detectives, though, so my stores may be more lax than others.

Ratchet CLank Size Matters PS2.
With the extra 30% plus 10% for edge at GS, the DS, PSP, and PS2 games were better last storm.
Wait for the trade 2 get extra $10 to trade in 360 and Wii games. If that deal comes through.
GTA IV was reported to drop on Sunday.

My wife hated it when I would do the flipping after work until recently when she saw me bringing home VV's by the $100's. Now she tells me to go out and do some more flipping. I haven't had enough inventory to worry about using her for the flips, with a baby it's kind of hard to get her involved in outings like that unless they are quick.

Did anyone save the address to request a winner list, or have sent off for it? Just curious, since I had entries at about twenty different stores in the area, and didn't win a thing.

Is this even that great of a deal? I mean it's good but nothing super great.

OK you might not lose, but you won't gain much at all. Probably a 1:1 type thing.

Example:
Ratatouille is 9.99. OK half is is $5. TIV is $5. Add bonuses and you get about $6.50. Now that is a 'good' flip.

Let's say Spiderman FoF, since it's easy to find: 9.99, 1/2 off is $5. TIV is $4.75. Bonus to GS is around $6.17.

This is all assuming TIVs stay from io's OP. So basically you net $1 per game. It's almost not worth the hassle of driving around, finding games, the time, etc.

What you're not taking into account are alleged price drops mentioned earlier in the thread, the prime example being GTAIV. Someone was quoted as saying that GTAIV will be dropping to $14.99, making it eligible for the B2G1Free sale and costing $7.50 (assuming that you buy two games of equal value). This trades in at $14 when taking into account the 40% bonus when you throw in some trade fodder, like Spiderman:FOF. We don't know all the drops, so there could be some legitimate gems in addition to GTAIV.

I think the point is, anytime you can get a 1:1 ratio or better going from BB to GS is a good thing. People flip all their GS to BB, this is a way to get that credit back to GS to continue the flipping cycle.

(I prefer to swap credit for credit...once I "cash out" for VV or something to sell, I end up using that cash or VV to purchase something else, reducing my "gaming" funds. This way I keep my gaming "hobby" guilt free)

This was very much the case a few months ago, but with the new gift cards and Vanilla Visas, I pretty much prefer Blockbuster credit since it's more versatile now.

Ultimately it's pretty easy to just set aside your Vanilla Visas for game purchases.

First its B1G1 not B2G1 :D

Anyway, yes that is good but thats one example and honestly probably the only good one. By the time these drop, most of the games will be OOS/sold to 'normal' Christmas shoppers, and TIV to GS may drop or even the OP is probably old and they dropped already.

Yes 1:1 to GS is good, but it's not hard to achieve this with normal prices and when GS has the trade 2 get $10. And if you're going to say they probably will do the trade 2 get $10, that's after Christmas, when once again lots of BBV games will be gone and TIVs will be sure to drop by then.

So in my opinion, this is a GREAT deal if you want to keep the games, but flipping wise, it's just average.

Yes, just like it is easy to spend cash for games. Since I keep a fairly significant amount of credit revolving btw BB and GS, I would be more apt to use the VV on something else.

That's what I'm probably going to do, to a very small extent. I'm pretty convinced it will happen, but there hasn't been any real confirmation, yet. The reason I want to rush to several stores today is because I want to pick up a lot of $5/$7.50 DS and PS2 games for myself. live at mine also, wasn't at the one I traded in games to earlier though (at least no signage).

Got
DS Flash Focus $6.99
XBOX Star Wars KOTOR II Free (had KOTOR I in, but swapped with another case, nice manager let me do it, one was marked $7, the other $10)

Separate transaction
All $15
Wii
Godfather Blackhand Edition
Bully Scholarship Edition (Free)
Bomberman Land
PS2
Transformers the Game (Free)
Gonna sell my sealed versions of Godfather and Bully. Would've picked up more trade fodder to GS, but I'm leaving the country tomorrow for 2 weeks. Gonna miss the bulk of this sale.

Should I be worried about trading into GS? There are 2 near me, one is closer. The closer one I usually trade into, but I've traded one or two of the games I got from BBV a few months ago, and now I will be trading the same one/two in again. Will they be able to see this and be suspicious, or should I not worry, or what?

Thanks GI. Some decent flips in there. I'll definitely be doing some Frontlines and Rainbow Six 2. Nothing extreme, but might as well burn credit.
Also, Mark the DM called me back. I explained things. He seems indifferent to my concern, but is going to call the two managers and find out what's happening. He said he'll reach me no later than tomorrow morning. We'll see where that goes then. I wanna get back into the game

Wow, so it started, eh? I'll have to call my local store. They've had a table out with a $9.99 bin and $14.99 bin for a few weeks, now. And much to my dismay, they were selling stuff from it without any discount.

First off - don't take any TIVs I have in that post as golden - look in the current GS trade-in value thread for updates. I may update that list with common BBV games and current GS TIVs later today though.

As for the calculations, I'm not sure what you are doing there, but with the current GS promo, you should get $7 for a game with a $5 trade-in value - $5 x 1.4 = $7 (I am going to assume everyone here has an Edge card).

Having said that, I'm not too terribly excited about this sale in terms of flipping (unless the $10 bonus promo comes back at GS). This is why I'm actually pretty disappointed it started early. First, the weather is crappy so I can't run around now - but in any case I'd rather it held off till closer to the next GS promo so we could wait for that and then buy stuff. I don't think I'm going to risk buying stuff up in the hopes that GS has a better promo after Christmas.

However, there are a few things I wouldn't mind getting for myself so I'll check it out where I can (weather permitting). I'm also kind of disappointed it is starting now because I really wanted a break - now I'm gonna have to go out. Damn...

Picked up Mario Galaxy for $25. There's a gamerush blockbuster 5 min from my house and I never knew they bought used games. I'll keep them in mind in the future. :)

Wait, you had an actual GAMERUSH store near you and you didn't know they took game trades? WTF? I can understand people not realizing a regular Blockbuster store does that, but, man, you have missed out on some great stuff in the past if you have been near that place for any length of time (now there isn't too much difference between GR and regular stores).

As odd as it sounds, I think both. He doesn't seem to care if I trade, but he also doesn't seem to care about the asshole managers. He just kind of said, "Well, you know. I'll call them and look more into this." Everyone at Blockbuster either seems indifferent or a prick. I think I'll just keep to myself when I'm in a BB. Oh no! Does that make me indifferent?

Unless your buying games for yourself i would skip this deal. I'm more concerned about moving my boatload of GS--->BBV credit.

for example if you buy RSV2 for 14.99 gamestop would give you a maximum of tiv of $14 IF you find 5 games to trade in. Thats the best promotion they have right now I believe. During the perfect storm it was always the cheaper games that had the best ratio anyway so i wouldn't think about it unless someone finds some gems.

Yeah, I'm more interested in getting out to more HWV stores for their sale (and the massive restockings that took place this week) than this in terms of GS flipping. But there are a few things I might want.

A good HWV flip game was SW KOTOR II for Xbox ($7.25 base -> $10.15 after promo, making it a double which I would consider the minimum I'd want out of it). I know my BB had that tagged $9.99 - so I guess I'll get that in any case (if it is still there - just called and they did, indeed, start the sale today).

Guys - when you get GS TIV's, PLEASE post them in this thread:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=202411

I just look at that while I'm at HWV (or now BBV) for what to pick up. All these new quotes you guys are getting need to get into that thread ASAP. If jp doesn't update this evening I'll do it, but please post the lists over there to make it easier.

No, I didn't. I've just begun lightly flipping (and then going to a moderate flip in the last week and a half, which has yielded in a ban for me)
I read that sometimes the Blockbuster's computer does not do the deal properly. Did you not read my question? ;)

CSR needs to hit "enter/total" for every pair. If they hit total after scanning all, the system only take the lower value.

so this deal really ISN'T that good? sad...

well if you have the time and want to do extra work to flip back and forth from BBV->GS->BBV go ahead. Lets break it down because im curious also.

Lets say you buy 2x RB6V2 for $15 BBV credit. Trade them in at GS for 28 (thats with trading in 10 other games btw for a 40% bonus). So with GS credit you buy 2x Monster Jam for $26 at GS -> $44. So all in all your just turning $15 BBV credit to turn into $44 credit which is a 2.9 ratio. Please let me know if im missing something.

Why go through all of that raising suspicion and hitting your BBV cap limit when you can lets say go to sears for a singstar bundle for a 3.6 ratio.

That's weird.... its going on at my store too... they even had some stuff on a table with a BOGO sign. Seems kinda odd that my completely clueless store would already have a sign up if the promo wasn't "supposed" to start yet.

Also, there's not a physical barcode... the cheaper game comes off automagically when they total it.

Weird happening @ the Kingstowne, VA BBVs. Neither store was aware of any B1G1 active today or even on the horizon (and this was talking with a couple of clerks I'd talked to before. The strange thing was though, at one of the stores, all the copies of :360: GTA 4 were TAGGED $14.99. I dont think I've ever seen them markdown titles early. I knew I should have traded GTAIV in after I beat it then bought it back when "Lost & the Damned" came out. Oh well, live and learn.

Similarly, at both stores, pretty much all the new copies of games were tagged with a "clearance" sticker. Some of the games were priced @ MSRP though which is funny.

As for selection, there wasnt much to be desired anyway. About the only game that I want was Dark Sector.

Hit up my local BBV got 6 games for $47.67 flipped them to a GS for $65.76. not fantastic but I had no GS credit before this so I'll roll with it. Upon looking at the receipt looks like they took out $2.00 for a "refurb fee" on one game. That's annoying but I guess that's what I get for not looking over the discs.

I put the list from the Tiered Trade in thread on my phone and went by that when picking out games. Turns out some of those numbers are outdated. Oh well it was still a profit.

Gamestop Base Trade in Values.

:360:Major League Baseball 2k8 - 6.00
:360:Condemed 2 Bloodshot - 6.00
:wii: bully Scholarship Edition - 8.00
:360:Frontlines: Feul of War - 6.00
:ps2: Ratchet and Clank: Size matters - 9.50
:360:WWE Smackdown vs Raw - 6.00
:ds:Soul Bubbles - 7.00

:ps2: Ratchet and Clank: Size Mtters is actually a pretty good flip as it's actually 9.99 (though I think it was tagged at $14.99) but trades for $9.50.

I actually tossed 2 copies of Soul Bubbles in there but the guy would only take 1. This may prove troublesome if I pick up multiple GTA:4's, multiple :ps2: Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters, and in getting rid of these 8 Soul bubbles (though I may keep on of those).

Condemned 2 rang up as $14.99 for me. Unfortunately, like someone else mentioned, Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword was $14.99 instead of $6.99.

$6.99
Alien Syndrome
Manhunt 2 (PS2)

$9.99
Crash of the Titans (Wii)
Fear Files (360)
Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix (PS3)
Sega Superstars Tennis (Wii)
Spider-man: Friend or Foe? (Wii)
Super Swing Golf Season 2 (Wii)

$14.99
Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword
Professor Layton & The Curious Village

I ended up getting multiples of NGDS and Fear Files to flip. Does anyone have a TIV of Ninja Gaiden at GS?

Yeah, wtf is up with Ninja Gaiden Sword 2? It rang up 14.99, damn it! I thought it was just me... now I'm going to have to go back there and pick out a 14.99 game I want, even though there are none I want. Although, I guess Frontlines flips for a decent amount? I'm really not wanting to do that... I'm in dire need for BB credit. I blew it all, except for 30 or so, tonight. You know those really shitty 6.99 Wii games? I bought them all. Just cuz I had the credit. Hopefully Mark the DM calls me back tomorrow morning with good news. Gotta flip at least another 100 worth to Blockbuster.

If anyone picked up an extra Ninja Gaiden Black when it was 6.99, please let me know. I have an extra Assassin's Creed for DS if anyone wanted to trade.

Wow looks like the best flips are
Ratchet and Clank: SM
Table Tennis (still)
Manhunt 2 (still)

I dont know if the 2 = 10$ bonus is confirmed or not, but if it is... any octomania left from the old GS->BBV flip may want to find their way back home since they were 6.99

Is the B1G1 people are talking about only for used games? And what is the 2 for $10 deal people are referring to? Sorry, I checked the past 3 pages.

Definately 3 good flips I'm going to look out for tomorrow. I keep going back and forth about the $10 bonus deal. I could buy a crapload of games right now and flip them for like a 1.8 or 1.9 profit ratio to GS. Or I could wait and let the christmas shoppers and non-CAGs pick through all the games for the next week or two and then hope that there's some good ones left for a potential (not even guaranteed) $10 bonus deal at GS. It goes without saying that the $10 bonus would provide much better ratios for many more games.

I bet the day after the 20/30/40 deal is over, a $10 bonus will start, but they could most definately switch things up and not have anything at all. Maybe there will just be a week or two without any trade in specials or coupons (not likely tho). That B2G1 we just had at GS might be the one they usually start the days after christmas. What worries me is that they could switch up they're trade in deals like the B2G1.

I guess I'll just print out io's list keeping in mind that the TIVs are old and print out the 20/30/40 lists and print out what you guys contributed Wednesday. I wish that there was a definative list of games for BBV->GS with around a 2x ratio or better. I'll post the prices and TIVs of everything I get on Thursday. Hopefully it helps.

I agree with io that I'm disappointed this came early. I wanted some time off and I wanted it to coincide with a possible Bonus $10 deal at GS. Even if I was flipping a little christmas eve and christmas day, it would have been worth it.

We had some just above freezing temp rain today so that cleared off a lot of the ice. It is supposed to freeze again tomorrow and snow some more, so I got out while the getting was good and hit up a few BBV and HWV stores as well as a GS.

(I also finally stopped by a TRU and it was painful to see a stack of Soul Bubbles games that now scan $19.99 with no GC promo. Also, no PS3 RB2 bundles...)

But as a result I decided we needed a good list of what to get at BBV during this sale - though, as someone pointed out, it is really a lot of that same stuff that was good before (Table Tennis, Manhunt 2, etc). The second post should be used for that so...

Ok, the BB->GS trade-ins are up to date in the second post (or, I should say, in sync with the GS trade-in thread). In some cases, I think we actually have newer info here than in that thread. So if the values here were lower I kept them (unless they had a recent date in the GS thread). However, keep in mind that a lot of GS trade-in values have gone up recently (for example, Cars Mater National we had at $4.25 from a few months back and it is now $5.75 at GS).

Here are some other good choices:

:ps2: Metal Slug Anthology $9.99 -> $8.75

:360: Oblivion $9.99 -> $8

Also, Sonic Riders Zero Gravity for PS2 at $9.99 has potential (there's no listing for it in the GS thread)

Oblivion I saw tagged that way at my store. I didn't buy it but they are usually pretty good about pricing. I plan on picking it up tomorrow if I can get out. I had no idea it fetched so much at GS but I asked about it tonight when I was trading other stuff.

I hit up 2 other BB's and didn't find anything at the first one. I forgot this store trashes nearly all their original cases/cover art and thus 80% of their stuff was in generic cases. That doesn't matter too much I guess when trading to GS, but it makes it pretty annoying (not to mentional fairly useless for stuff I want to keep). They also didn't have the B1G1 signs up and I didn't feel like arguing with the manager so I just left. At the second store I found Metal Slug for PS2, and then just got some stuff for myself: Contra 4 DS ($9.99), No More Heroes ($14.99), and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic ($14.99). I tried to buy RSV2 but they scanned it and said the $29.99 price was correct. So WTF was that all about people?

Anyway, I also hit up a Hollywood right near this BB and got much better stuff (Futurama, Mario Power Tennis, etc). Problem is I used the last of my portable Gamecrazy credit and had to dip into a VV to pay for it - gasp!

I also completely forgot about Table Tennis for the Wii - I'm pretty sure my local store still has it. So tomorrow I can get that and Oblivion, hopefully.

I'm sooo pissed...back during the Beowolf madness, I traded two copies of Disgaea 2 from the Kmart Clearance for $27ish each. They sat in the same place for over a year, then they reorganized, and I saw them last month labeled at $14.99...as soon as I heard the BOGO was on, I headed straight to that store.

And today both were gone. I asked if they had it, and they went into a drawer and found one copy of it -- game and manual only and ringing up at $19.99.

Fuck HOW DID THEY LOSE MY FRIGGIN' CASE!

Oh, and FWIW, I just checked my Vanilla Visa card balance on the card I made a return on at Best Buy. The refund shows as processed the same day I got it (12/14). It just wasn't on there that night when I checked (while my purchase at the same time showed up instantly as did my HWV purchase from tonight). So, yeah, it is 4 days later now - not sure exactly when it showed up but it is pretty quick I guess (just not instant). So, don't worry about returns. Just make sure you keep the cards around even when they are "empty" as it is not like a gift card - you'll need the original card to use the refunded money.

io, thank you very much for putting in the time in updating the list. I was just going to play it by ear, but your updated list will make things easier. Also thx for posting about oblivion and sonic riders. It makes sense that oblivion would be a positive flip because for whatever reason, GS is still trying to sell it for 24.99. I bet sonic riders (ps2) gets about 8, maybe more at GS. Like Metal Slug, they sell it for 19.99, so hopefully it has a similarly high TIV.

Edit - According to the tiered gs thread, Sonic Riders (ps2) gets $3.25 as of 12/16

Yes, but I think that is the original Sonic Riders and not "Sonic Riders Zero Gravity" which is a much newer game (there's also a Wii version).

GS sells the original Sonic Riders for $9.99 and the newer one for $19.99 so I would expect a pretty big difference in TIV. The $3.25 is surely for the original one (it is - from Xfactor's post in the GS thread I'm pretty sure he means the original since he also lists the Gamecube version in the same way).

Anyways, I'll leave that for someone else to call about - we need to get that into the list if it is a good one though.
As for Oblivion, we need to make sure it is really $9.99 at BBV. I'll find out tomorrow afternoon when I go to buy it but that will be pretty late for you east coasters...

I'll be hitting up a couple BB's during lunch & after work, I wont be home til late, so im sure ppl will find some better flips before I do.

I tried making a list of good flips based on the GS thread, but some of the TIV's are a bit too outddated. It looks like the best method is going to involve just taking some chances. Kinda sucks that it started early as we have to either trade it with the 40% (making the lower valued names not worth it) or wait another week and hope that the TIV's dont drop.

well if you have the time and want to do extra work to flip back and forth from BBV->GS->BBV go ahead.

Because to flip Singstar, you're using cash. You're not really raising any more suspicion than you are trading in Singstars all day. With BBV, you get a variety of games to trade in. I'm not going to trade in more than one of the same title at any BBV. That's more suspicious than anything.

Basically what you described was our perfect storm months ago except the bonus was an extra $10 for two next gen titles traded in (instead of the 40%) which actually ends up being much better for some of these titles.

Keep in mind that the perfect storm was before Vanilla Visas, and Vanilla Visas opened up all kinds of new flipping opportunities.

I'm new to this, so forgive me for asking probably a dumb question, but it seems like you purchase them for more than you trade them in for, and wouldn't you be losing value? Or is the first price the value you get for trading it and second one what you purchased it for. I'm confused.

With the B1G1 at Blockbuster, you're basically paying half of the price listed, assuming you pair up equally-priced games.

It's Buy 1 get one Free so you can add the TiV of the free game. Also due to the current deal at Gamestop you get an extra 30% trade in value if you trade in 5 or more games. Add in an edge card bonus and you've got a 40% bonus on trade in. So when half the games are $0-$X.XX Trade and everything is x1.4 you still tend to end up with a credit increase.

Man, we need some type of confirmation on the Tade2Get$10 GS promo. I don't want to raid my BB's dry if we think this is coming around the corner, but I don't want to sit out the +40% and not make anything either... The difference is HUGE on most of these games though, particularly the $10 games from BB.

Example:

Right now I can trade Fear Files for $6+40% = 8.40
Trade2Get$10 meands I get $6+$5 = $11

That's a margin difference of 1.68 current vs 2.2 if I get the better promo.

I think my plan now is to buy a whole lot of 1.5 or better flips, and see if we get some confirmation in the next few days before I go trading all of them back to GS. We need a GS employee to get on the ball and feed us some info!!!

I just called a store and had them look up the regular edition of Oblivion. Here's what they said the selling prices were:

360: $19.99 used / $29.99 new
PS3: $14.99 used / $17.99 new

So, if that info is to be believed, the 360 obviously wouldn't be part of the BOGO but the PS3 one would (maybe whoever reported $9.99 just came across a mistag).

I clarified that I was asking about the reg. ed. NOT the GOTY edition, so hopefully the clerk got the info right.

First price is the base BBV cost.

There's a B1G1 Free sale, effectively making them each 50% off.

Second value is the base GS TIV.

There's a 10/20/30% (+10%Edge) bonus, boosting the Trade in Values by up to 40%.

Actually, it's an even bigger difference, since the 40% includes Edge, but your trade 2, extra $10 doesn't. So it's $8.40 vs. $11.60. They would become even if the TIV dropped to $4, but there's a good chance it wouldn't before a trade 2, extra $10 promo comes.

I'm wrestling with the same issue right now. I bought 5 games thinking the TIVs would be a little higher, and only 3 of them would even net me a profit after trading with the current promo. Obviously I'll hold onto the others in hope of the extra $10, but if I get 5 decent ones I don't think I'll wait. I just won't be buying them up left and right. For now, I think I'm going to walk around with a small notebook and keep an inventory at each store so I can see what's worth coming back to get if I need it. For now, I'm just on the hunt for some good DS and PS2 games for keeps.
