View Full Version : The Blockbuster/Gamerush Thread XX - SMG $25 new, disc-only used 360/Wii games $9.99!
Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.
Alert: Special shipments of disc-only Wii and 360 games on sale for $9.99
Update 2/18 - It appears these were one-time shipments that many stores (but certainly not all) got last week. There were rumors of more shipments coming but nothing seems to have shown up this week at any stores. At this point, all you are likely to find are the less desirable 360 games and maybe some last-gen stuff.
Many Blockbuster stores are getting in shipments of Wii and 360 disc-only games from corporate this week. These are ALL supposed to be priced at $9.99 (though we are getting some reports of stores repricing them at full regular used price). Many stores have them out for sale now, some haven't received their shipments yet, and yet others are holding them till the weekend for the President's Day sale. Note that this is special stock from corporate and has a bar code that scans "Prepack POG w/o cover art" so that any regular used games that are disc-only in the store will not be part of the sale. It appears most stores are putting these into special bins for the sale, though others just mix them in with the regular used game stock (which can be quite confusing). Some of the titles that CAGs have found include Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Metroid Prime 3, Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, Nights, Sonic Secret Rings, and Red Steel for the Wii, and Halo 3, GTA IV, Call of Duty 4, Bioshock, Grid, Simpsons, and Gears of War for the 360. Do not expect any of the newest of the new releases to be included as it appears these were pulled in Sept. 08 for sale. On the plus side, it appears many of the discs are in excellent condition (though many may have been refurbished).
Some stores have also gotten shipments of PS2 and original Xbox games as part of the same sale (also disc-only). The PS2 games are $4.99 and the Xbox games are $2.99. Some people have found Star Wars Battlefront II amongst those Xbox games.
Also, be aware that some stores have not gotten these in and the employees may not know anything about these shipments (whether they have gotten them or not).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.
It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.
Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).
Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.
What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.186.2.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.
The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.
- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance.
- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.
- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:
Multiplatform
F.E.A.R. 2 (360, PS3)
Resident Evil 5 (360, PS3)
Resident Evil 5 CE (360, PS3)
Street Fighter IV (360, PS3)
Street Fighter IV CE (360, PS3)
:360:
Halo Wars
Halo Wars CE
:ps3:
Killzone 2
:wii:
:ds:
Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars
They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).
Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

List of decent $9.99 (and under) used games at Blockbuster
Blockbuster tends to shift rentals to used merchandise fairly regularly and this often results in lower than usual (compared to Gamestop or Gamecrazy) prices on certain used games. The condition of these games can vary wildly, of course, depending on how often they got rented. But I was somewhat surprised to find that in many cases they may have never been rented at all meaning you can get a practically mint game for very cheap. The purpose of this list is to keep track of particularly good deals relative to Gamestop and other places and to make sure CAGs don't overlook some great deals to use their cheap Blockbuster credit on. $9.99 is sort of the magic price that many CAGs are willing to get used games for at Blockbuster, so the list will focus on those with a few specific cases of decent values at higher prices mentioned afterwards. Below that I will put a "wait list" of mostly $14.99 games that ought to be coming down to $9.99 sooner or later and are readily available at most stores.

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.
Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.
Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

NOTE: If you just want to look at a general trade-in value list for Blockbuster look at the post below this (ie, the third post). Friend of Sonic is maintaining the larger trade-in value list there.
For those looking to build up Blockbuster credit via Gamestop, here are some specific transfer possibilities. Note that few of these would be considered good for cash purchases, but if you have extra Gamestop credit from some of the recent deals they might be worthwhile. The Gamestop purchase prices are shown before any discounts (since these are all used prices you should be able to get at least the standard 10% Edge card discount, and sometimes more with the weekly coupons):

Here is a list of known trade-in values for Blockbuster and Gamerush. Each Monday, Blockbuster and Gamerush update TIVs, although that does not mean every game's TIV will change. Please note that the date following the games are the FINAL day that the game's TIV is confirmed-- if you're looking at a game and the posted date has already passed, the game may trade in lower than listed. And, of course, if you see a future date listed, you do not have to wait until the posted date to trade in a game to get the listed value.
Confirmed TIVs will be bolded-- older ones will not be and will have their last known date for TIV posted.
Any games with TIV dated before February 2008 has more than likely been drastically lowered by BBV--get a quote before commiting to the trade.

finally a new one!
Yeah, FoS and I were finally on at the same time and since he volunteered to keep up a more comprehensive trade-in list I wanted to make sure he got the third post.
So, I'll still maintain "hot" trade-ins in the second post. But he will maintain the complete list in the third post. I have to run now so I won't be updating anything in the first two posts yet - it's pretty much just a cut-n-paste at this point. I'll close up the other one, though, and then deal with this later tonight.

Ah, feels so fresh and clean in here. Of course, if we keep making pointless comments about the fact that there's a new thread, I guess it won't anymore. lol.
io: the second post, in the PS3 flips section, you have the 360 Oblivion GOTY listed. The PS3 version gets $20 if you feel like listing it. You fixed it. Thanks.

cool a new thread (missing important rules though). I picked up my dark knight blu ray and that blockbuster didnt have any VV cards. So when i dump off my singstar bundles at the other BBV ill probably score some (thinking about dumping my lone nba09 i kept for myself lol). It sucks all my credit is at GS but i have a feeling $200 at BBV will go a long way with the new cards. I'm more inclined to do 2x flips now. This will be the end of us all.

OH COME ON! The last thread still had hundreds of pages of mileage in it. But no, you put her down old yeller style didn't you?
(This thread has that new car smell...)
I got a PS3 last year at this time from Blockbuster doing a bunch of trade ins. Those were the days! I'm thinking of getting a 360 at this point, but I'm not sure what games to grab from Gamestop (preferably not too hard to find games) which will flip with an impressive 2X return. . . Last year it seemed that there were always three or four really great 2X flips. I remember PS3 Beowolf, Darkness, and some World War 2 game for the 360 which really helped me ramp up credit quickly. . . What are the top three or four I should be looking for right now? TIA

Last year it seemed that there were always three or four really great 2X flips. I remember PS3 Beowolf, Darkness, and some World War 2 game for the 360 which really helped me ramp up credit quickly. . . What are the top three or four I should be looking for right now? TIA
All the info you need is in the second post. Assuming you can find any, used copies of Oblivion GOTY 360, Monster Jam 360, and Legendary 360 with the 20% coupon and Edge are your best bets (through today and tomorrow til the coupon expires).

Also, stopped by the local BBV and they had the Visa cards right next to the register. Pity I only have a handful of credit tho so they're of no use to me right now.

Wall-E (360) trades in for $19 and Kung Fu Panda (PS3) for $20 at BBV. If you can find these cheap at Target and use a VV, they're almost 2:1 flips without using "cash". Also picked up a used Lair (PS3) for $15 and a brand new Devil May Cry 4 CE (PS3) on clearance for $33 for anyone interested in those games. The DMC 4 CE retails for $50 so the BB price is a pretty nice deal.

Well my efforts to find Singstar ended in failure. There's only one Sears in an hours radius from me that reported any in stock. So I go there and it turns out two are listed as in stock, but after like a half hours or waiting around while they searched they were nowhere to be found .
I did pick up a copy of :360:Oblivion: GOTY and an Edge card, and my 2 :ps3:Armored Core For Answers. I'm gonna have to see If I can start seeing some return back on this flipping. With no GS credit this is just cash to BBV flipping thus far.
Full Auto 2 TIV is $11, not $4. $4 is the price at Sears, $ 3.97 to be exact.
I think what I'll do is reduce the 2nd post to "essential" flip info and leave the rest to fos. But not now, I'm in a doctor's office - more on that later .

Oops! I remember that post. I got mixed up when I typed it though, for some reason.
So, what I did was look at the old thread and went backwards until I hit early Monday morning. All reported TIVs should be there. I'll try to stay on top of it-- shouldn't be too hard since we're all pretty focused on a handful of games each given week. It's certaintly no Target clearance thread, that's for sure. ;)

BBV associates are supposed to look for disc scratches but many don't and are globally speaking poorly trained and not experienced at taking in trade ins. Also, the games MUST have the cover art with barcode(or a high quality reproduction of the original art ;)) and no they do not need to have the manual, just the artwork cover and sku.

Finally got 2 VV after trying a couple times. Last night I went to pick up Dark Knight BR from my home bbv, knowing they were generally pretty on point about putting stuff out when they were suppose to. Walked in and sitting right there at the top of the rack was the 'Nillas. As I reached to grab them I realized that the Distric Manager, apperently her assistant (Asst. DM?), the store manager, and the 2 asst. managers were the only ones in the store. Apparently she (the DM) was going over their sales plans for the holidays, and I had managed to pick the one night they were all there to attempt to get a visa (even though this was the first time I have seen one in the stores I frequent). Seeing how the only people in the store were managers I passed on picking up a Visa.
Fast foreward to today, I headed out to a nearby BBV to get a VV on my lunch break, and lo and behold they didn't have any and the girl couldn't find them when I asked. Defeated again, I stopped at one more BBV on my way home. Finally I found some and bought 2, cashier didn't even bat an eye, although at first he wanted me to open up the visa's in order to scan them through the card reader. I was confused at first until I realized that he thought I was trying to use the Visa instead of purchase it. After I explained to him that I wanted to buy it he said "Oh, didn't even know we sold these. Is there enough on that value card?" I said yep, scanned it and was on my merry way.

I picked up a copy of Civilization 360 today at Target (with a target giftcard from a survey site) and tried to trade it in, it was scanned and the lady said they couldnt take it. Took it to the next BB with the cover art taken out and they looked it up no questions asked.
Depends on the person at the register really, on both scratches and cover art, worst they can do is tell ya no and u try at the next closest BB.

Just a quick tip for those having trouble buying Vanilla Visas with credit -
Smartest thing to do is designate one store as your "cash out" store that stocks the visas. Trade at other stores, and put it on your value card.
When you go to buy the visa, tell them you need to split payment. Put a few dollars or so on a real credit card and pay the rest with your value card. If you swipe the real card first, it looks much less suspicious, and only the most anal of employees is going to pay attention to what you swipe the second time.
Or use a card you know will be declined for the amount, then say, oh, let me try this one, and use your value card.

A bit off topic but a little story for all ya GS>BBV flippers in this thread like me in regards to the demise of the cellfire GS coupon..
So today I bump into a bunch of associates @ GS that are chatting up about the employee appreciation sale coming up this weekend at Gamestop for its employees. Turns out the deal is 25% off for them ! Niiice. Also stacks with edge.
So I put down my 20% off used 360 coupon for Monster Jam, Oblivion GOTY, & Smash Court tennis and we all chat some more about Gamestops great coupons. Then I bring up the cellphone cellfire coupon about how I miss it and when are they bringing it back since it was 20% off ANY used games and stacks with edge (PERFECT for maximizing flipping returns)
Unfortunately, two of them went on to tell me that the cellfire cellphone coupon program was discontinued because people had found a way to print it out and even use it many, many times over. One fellow who thought he was pretty sharp went on to tell me how there are websites out there who post copies of the coupons ()
I pretended to know nothing of the sort but told them that their stores should have never let people use a PRINTED PAPER cell phone exclusive coupon.:-s
So anyways now its probably R.I.P. for good and probably the fault of many CAG's (:-k??) abusing paper coupon versions of a cellphone only offer but we can only hope they bring it back because I am sure it was GREAT for their business ? unless only CAGS ended up as the only ones using it !

Blockbuster takes disc only games, your store must be lazy, I have traded in disk only games many times, I got a CD wallet full of games at a garage sale this year and traded most of them in. All they have to do is manualy look up the game in the system.
P.S. at my store they dont even check to make sure the disks are in teh case, they just scan the code and give me the credit(It may be because they trust me though.)

Thanks. I don't really play that series, but I've been seeing the DS one pop up everywhere used. $6.99 with BOGO is a must-buy, though.

Does anyone know how many cards amazon allows you to use at once while buying Amazon gift cards? I'm trying to figure out a way to get rid of this last $1.xx on the VV I have. My first thought was, maybe I'll just buy an amazon gift card for $1.xx and add it to my amazon account. The numbers will eventually add up. Then I saw that the minimum you could order was $5.
I think one of the easiest things to do with VV cards that have little value is to buy gas. If you go in and ask them to swipe X.XX on to pump Y, it shouldn't be a problem (haven't tried this yet).

Sigma is on PS3, Dragon Sword is on DS. Dragon Sword is also $6.99 right now.
Yeah, and just to be clear, Sigma, the PS3 game, is *not* $6.99.
Just cashed out 2 $100 visas :) one more till I get the Acer Aspire One off of Amazon.
Also noticed that little video player thing Archos or something was 99 down from 119.
Glad to see I am not the only one with the Netbook idea. Looking to get the 120gb Asus EEE off of Amazon myself. Bought two cards so far, looking to get at least one more.
Also, I have not been turned down for buying a gift card yet. Done it four times so far. I have also found that sending in my girlfriend to do my dirty work works wonders at GS and BB. She gets away with crap that I could not.

I have some questions. 1. What is so great about these Value and Visa cards? 2.What does TIV mean? 3.When you trade in a game at Blockbuster do you usually get cash? I apologize for my ignorance, but w/o asking I will never find out.
EDIT: Prolly just some sort of YMMV deal (or a franchise). Just called my local store and they said $59.99 after looking it up.
This isn't exactly confirmed, but 'weareattack' saw these prices on new games:
All games are New:
PS3 - Motorstorm 2 for $32
PS3 - Heavenly Sword for $32
PS3 - Metal Gear Solid 4 for $37
PS3/360 - Saints Row 2 $44
360 - Mass Effect for $20
thread:
http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=207053
I really want Motorstorm 2 for that price, ty for that info.
12/10 tiv
Darkness $6
Condemned 2 $12
All 360.
Trade my vv to target. 100 into 2x50
Good flip to gs
Wii
Manhunt 2 9.99 / 8
Tony hawk proving ground 9.99/8
Ratchet n clank 9.99. /9
Ds
Ass creed 6.99 / 5
Pure is down to 20 at gs
You're saying Pure :360:/:ps3: is $20 (new/used?) at Gamestop?
I tarded in (X360) Conflict Denied ops last night for $15+tax, It ticks me off, I got it for $1 this summer at a garage sale and left it on my shelf, It was probably a $32 trade when i got it, DAMN!!
In my opinion that is still a good deal for you then, how much does the game sell for?
Add:
360/PS3 Lego Star Wars TCS $11.99
360 Ace Combat 6 $16.99
Both NEW
I was really tempted to buy Lego SW TCS for $19.99 @ Walmart, but this is obviously much better (40% less).
Saw a Scene It? bundle (new) marked $21.99 today.

1. Value cards: where you store credit from BBV.
1a. Visa cards: real cash for easily attained BBV credit, which can potentially turn $45-60 (depending on trade ratios) into a $100 pre-paid gift card
2. Trade-In Value
3. Credit only. If an employee is stupid, they will give you cash, or if you return something you bought with credit they will RARELY give you cash. Expect all BBV values to be in credit.
The value for Pure is the Trade-In Value. Whenever people refer to things at GS in this thread, they are 99% of the time discussing the TIV.

The funny part is that most of the times that I tried to use the actual coupon on my iphone, they told me that I needed to print out the coupon. Oh well. It was good while it lasted but I think GS also shares some of the blame. In the end, it is us who lose out.
Samba De Amigo Wii is down to 17.99 (from 34.99) used at GS. Seems to be somewhat available around here.

Yeah, that's the most annoying part. It only happened once to me and I was like, "Um, but how would I print it off of my phone? I don't have a printer that connects to my phone." And they just sort of shrugged and didn't know what to tell me. I didn't want to push them, though because it wasn't a big deal at the time. I think I was just picking up some mediocre flips.

Would you mind explaining that? I'm a complete noob at trading from GS to BBV for more $$$.
Right now, all I understand (or think I understand) is:
1. You buy games from a store
2. You trade them into a BBV for credit on a "Value Card?"
3. You buy Visa gift cards with the Value Card credit
4. You buy things on Amazon
5. ???

Basically, there's an initial investment of real money. My initial investment was buying some games at GameStop with Edge card/coupons, and trading them in for quite a bit more at BlockBuster. Most of the time you just look for games that are even or slightly positive trades from BBV -> GS, and look for however high you want to go on ratios for GS -> BBV.
Value cards are your store credit on a card, otherwise they'll leave it on your account where it is tied to that specific store. You can use the credit to buy a Vanilla Visa and, in my case, buy a few games that get a good profit (2:1 ratio or so) off Amazon or GameStop, then trade them back to BlockBuster, making profit to buy another card + keep however much credit you have left over.
Short version: Step 4 is "Buy things on Amazon/GameStop that trade back to BlockBuster for a good money given to money spent ratio" and Step 5 is "Trade the games bought back to BlockBuster"

They probably updated it this week since it seems to be a pretty big drop. It's $17.59 on Amazon, and $19.99 on Best Buy's website, so it looks like a universal drop.

Are those new game markdown prices universal or ymmv and will they ring up at that price, someone said BBV manually prices them but what does that mean? All the new games are locked up in a case and you cannot see their prices, so how should I go about finding out what the prices are without annoying the employees? Also, Is there any thing worth purchasing besides games or gift cards at BBVs?

Haha, yea. I said the same thing to one particularly stupid and stubborn GS CSR (my opinion of him is based on many interactions, not just this one thing) and he continued to tell me how I had to connect it to my computer, download the coupon and then print it out. I just walked out of the store dumbfounded by his stupidity and came back later to use the exact coupon with a different CSR.

Prepping for the upcoming storm(hopefully)...
Already told my wife that 12.23 i'll be on a road trip. Plan is that day one of b1g1 must max out the PS2, PSP, DS flips while the 40% is going on at GS, then if the promo hopefully switches over to extra $10 for 2 (360, wii or ps3) games at GS, will be able to max out even more.
I figure to use cash at some Blockbusters, to keep my limit down unless there is a good flip at the same time, and then just trade in and purchase on the same visit.
If things get real busy I'll have to hire a stripper to do some trading for me:roll:(Capa)
Overheard at BB tonight that they are dropping the price of the BluRay player down to $199.99 tomorrow. Clerk said it was highly rated model, i think it was they sylvania that was on the counter. I was distracted because I was trying to get the Visa.

Tagging. Will post TIVs soon.
Good lord people! I go away for 6 hours and come back to 5 full pages tacked on to this thread already!
So you thought they would put the money directly on the visa. I thought everyone was keen to the fact that you get the money on the value card first then purchase the visa with the value card.
I don't see what the difference is. Store credit == Value card. In fact, I'd think it would be easier to use store credit since they don't have a choice when you buy something. I mean, maybe they wouldn't let you do it right away, but if you put it on the account and came back later they can't really stop you.
Blockbuster takes disc only games, your store must be lazy, I have traded in disk only games many times, I got a CD wallet full of games at a garage sale this year and traded most of them in. All they have to do is manualy look up the game in the system.
Well, I ran into a bit of trouble tonight. I had a SST from the arcade bundle and used the cover from the bundle which I have done before. But this guy said "no bar code" means they can't take it because it could be part of a "not for resale" or a bundle or something. Yeah, that's true enough, but that's a stupid reason to turn it down. Gamestop certainly has no issue taking games that way and there's nothing wrong with it. SST is SST... Unfortunately this was a far-away BB where I had hoped to trade that in since I've done it already locally. He also shot down my idea of putting the trades on the account and buying a $50 + $5 gift card - said "it doesn't work that way".
At least I was able to trade in an Oblivion GotY and NBA 09 there. But I'm pissed - I didn't realize till I got home that I completely forgot about the Singstar bundle that I bought just before that! But remind me again how that works - it is one price for the game only, and another for the whole bundle? I probably would have had all sorts of trouble from that guy over that issue I guess so it's just as well. I got 3 and may keep 1 - meaning I need to do something with the other 2. My local store ought to take one, though I'm not sure they will want hardware like that. More details from those who traded them in would be appreciated. FWIW, my Sears actually had them marked $9.97, so I'm shocked they were still there. I also got a Full Auto 2 for $3.97 (that one was marked $14.97) but I'm keeping that for my new PS3 ;).
In other news, this Oblivion thing worked out for me in the end, though tonight started out pretty frustrating. I went to 3 stores, initially, that were supposed to have it. The first one had 1 copy - so far so good. The second store had a generic case - no good. The third store had sold it. Bah... So I decided to hit up a fourth store where I wasn't even sure if they had it or not. I couldn't find one, but I did find a MINT, COMPLETE Oblivion Collector's Edition. Except for the damn GS sticker residue on the cardboard case, this thing is perfect - untouched discs, mint map and manual, a still-wrapped coin, and even the product warranty card. This HAD to be one of the infamous GS new->used conversions. Too bad for them I used the 20% + Edge and got it for just $17.49. In any case, keep an eye out for those at your GS as usually more than 1 store will do this sort of thing. This is a perfect with the GotY flip - I already installed the extra stuff and can now use and keep the Collector's Edition. They ALSO happened to have a GotY but we couldn't find the case - both me and the clerk searched all through the racks for it too. I decided to buy it anyway since they are so hard to find. I'll either try it disc only at a store that is more likely to take it that way or try to print a cover for it if I can find one onlne for the GotY. I guess I could do that for SST too...
Besides the SST/Arcade bundle disc the only other flippable I found was one copy of Smash Court Tennis - this will definitely go to my local BB since they know how to look stuff up (as it has a scanning problem apparently). I also went to a couple of Targets and found one copy of Golden Axe Beast Rider but at $14.98 I'm not sure that's worth flipping. Is it really that bad of a game? I could add it to the PS3 pile that is growing ever bigger ;).
Oh, and not BBV related but I also stopped by a HWV and found 12 games worth taking to GS. All told I turned 13 beat-up HWV ex-rentals (at a cost of $52 in Gamecrazy credit) into $135 in GS credit.
However, definitely the highlight of the evening was finding that mint Oblivion Collector's Edition.
Oh, and finding out I don't in fact have a hernia (just a nagging muscle strain that has been bothering me for 3 months now).
I pruned the second post to get rid of the crossed out titles (they can be kept in FoS's list) and the non-GS flips (also can be kept in his list).
I guess this:
Singstar [game only]- $16 (Price good thru 12/14)
Singstar bundle - $36 (Price good thru 12/14)
answers my question about the Singstar bundle. I'm at a loss with what to do since I've never heard of a regular BB taking in any sort of accessory. I guess I'll simply give it a shot and see what happens ;).
Also, FoS, may I suggest you drop the "Price good thru 12/14" and just put the date of the last update in there (like in the GS trade-in deal thread). I'll keep posting this in the "flipping" section as it is more pertinent there. But people can figure out for themselves based on the update date how long the prices ought to hold. So, for example, most of the prices you put in would simply say 12/10 after them. I think it will make it easier on you and make the list a little less cluttered (not to mention save ink for those who print these things ;)).

Most of the time you just look for games that are even or slightly positive trades from BBV -> GS, and look for however high you want to go on ratios for GS -> BBV.
Though I think with the Vanilla Visa cards, there is now a paradigm shift. No longer will we have to scrounge around for barely even flips back to GS. Just cash out (pretty much literally) to a Visa card and you can use it wherever their is a decent flip (GS/Amazon/Target/Kmart/Gamefly?).
I think we have reached a new happy time in flip-mode!:bouncy::applause::D
Oh, and to post something (mildly) useful:
:360:
CSI: Hard Evidence - $8 (Price Good Thru 12/14)
P.S. I prefer the "Price XX/XX" format. Yes, I'm smart enough to do the calculation, but it's nice to have it at-a-glance. As a compromise (and to save Io some printer ink) perhaps you can just put the date the price is good through and not the actual words "Price Good Thru" for every game (just the first one in your list for definition)

So after going to 3 Blockbusters I found one with the Visa cards. Picked up a $100 card and got rung up with no questions asked. The only problem now is that good flips are in short supply around here. Either there's another flipper in the area (I haven't noticed them yet) or people are actually ::gasp:: buying these games for themselves. Greedy bastards! I did pick up an Oblivion and a Monster Jam from one store which I'll hopefully combine with a Legendary to get my credit back up.
I also made out like a bandit off of one of my wife's friends. I traded in my PS2 and games when GS had the trade-in deal a couple months ago and got another 360. My wife's friend was getting rid of her PS2 and was just going to go ahead and throw it away until she mentioned it to my wife who, thankfully, offered her 20 bucks for it. So how if I break it down it goes:
Traded to GS for $100 credit
Fat PS2, Dual Shock Controller, Third Party Controller, Memory Card, Devil May Cry, Dragonball Z Budokai 3, Grand Theft Auto Vice City, and some Muppet Game I bought as filler
Bought for $20:
Fat PS2, 2 Dual Shock Controllers, Memory Card, Kingdom Hearts (Non GH), Wheel of Fortune, Grand Theft Auto Vice City, BMX XXX (What the hell was she doing with this?), and Over the Hedge
So the little bit of regret I felt for trading in my PS2 was promptly annihilated last night when she brought it over.

hail to the chimp - 18 used at gs
after 20% and edge drops it to 12.60 -> 16 so a little more but if you are running out of good stuff, it is something.
on a side note i love when the games have not been tagged recently the price is off and they have to let you know that you are saving even more money. i found monster jam still marked at 39.99. also all gs around here seem to have new or even old employees that are so scatterbrained that they take nearly 20 min to ring you up. i called 3 stores last night and asked to have all my games put on hold. only one of them pulled the games (im used to them not so i complimented the one that did) and because it took them so damn long i missed out on going to one because i was on a time constraint. seriously i understand the upsell, but they dont upsell to me anymore since i usually call ahead since i know what i want. they just take so damn long to do anything. grrrrrrr

I traded 2 singstars to different stores the other day with no problems. I just opened them both up and put all the mics and stuff in a bag. Then I took the bundle upc and taped it over the not for resale label on the game. Worked perfect. The UPC scans for the $36 bundle tiv. I just went in and handed them the game and when they were reading the screen where it said they need the mics i presented the bag with the mics and stuff in it.

I did have one problem with the Singstar bundle yesterday where the girl said they don't take any kind of hardware or accessories for trade. Other than that, I have traded 4 at 4 different locations the past two days, and have cleaned up in general netting 6 copies for less than $60 which will give me $216 in credit which is just enough to cover two VV.

If you don't have it and are thinking of buying it to keep, then yes I'd recommend it. GS sells it game-only used for $24.99, so if another coupon comes around, you could get it from them for $17.49 w/ coupon and Edge. So, think of it as getting a spare headset for $2.50. The headset is decent, but not great. It pales in comparison to the new official one, but for that cheap you can't complain.
Warhawk was $9.99 on Amazon a day or two ago, which I would have snagged in a heartbeat if I didn't already own it. Great game.
so this is forthe ps3 version of singstar, correct?
Yes, PS3 version bundled with mics. Somebody said its real cheap at Sears... forget the price, something like $8-$10 I think.

So, no, not a good flip.
Also, you're right. Wii Alone in the Dark is $9.98 on Amazon right now. A decent cash flip for the moment. However, the TIV has been $23 for quite some time.... I wouldn't take a risk on ordering it, this late in the week (unless you have Prime). I mean, if you wanted to concoct an elaborate plan, you could go buy a couple copies somewhere else in person, go ahead and trade them in, then when the Amazon copies show up, go return them to wherever you bought the first set.

I was going to trade in singstar until I realized I could just throw it up on amazon for a similar/better price new. But honestly I've had zero luck with Any game at any blockbuster involving peripherals. I tried to trade in Warhawk into 6 different blockbusters. And failed every time. And yes I had a case cover with a barcode.
Update : thanks for the alone in the dark info - I have prime and ordered a couple of copies (Never got in on the gamefly deal)

The only thing that concerns me about it is if I get the soundtrack edition. Would the Amazon listing mention at? At any rate, I'm going to do what Mkernan suggested and pick some copies up at a B&M. I'm thinking Best Buy since it's right next to me at work, and then I'll return the Amazon copies when I get them.

wow..i like that google spreadsheet..gonna use that for the B1G1 deal..thanks!
I found out accidentally when asking about the Singstar TIV on Monday. The csr told me that it's $ 16 for the game and $ 36 with the mic.
I traded 3 bundles so far, just bringing it with original packaging. They need to scan the barcode on the packaging since there is no barcode on the game itself.
I should've hoard the whole orange county before posting the TIV here, since I can't find any Singstar in Sears OC. hahha.. just kidding. As long as CAG that find it, I'm good.
By the way, the Singstar Amped Bundle for PS2 is only $ 1.97 at Sears, but BB will not take this. They only take Singstar Rocks ?? for PS2. If you need the mics, just pick this up or trade to GS as a filler, since it should get $ 6 for the game according to GS thread.
The only reason I did the "Good thru" was to emulate your style. Otherwise, I was just going to put the date of the update, so good call on that.
EDIT: Well, I saw the above post about simply posting the date that the TIV is good through with the (Good thru) and that sounds good to me too, aside from the confusion it may cause for some people. What does everyone else think?
Yeah, go ahead and do it that way - though it is sure to confuse newbies if a future date is next to a trade-in price. I'm sure we'll get questions about waiting till that date before trading .

Yeah, as sprintfinanceguy pointed out, that must be a mis-quote by the BB clerk. A mid-week drop, especially on something like that (and especially when the game-only price held), would be very unusual.

Confusing people is always a good thing.
Also, guys, I didn't find a profitable flip per se, but Best Buy has the Guitar Hero: Aerosmith bundles for all of the systems for 29.99 after a 20 dollar Reward Zone coupon. I was thinking of getting it for the sole purpose of keeping the wireless guitar and big box (so that when Aerosmith game only drops in a year or two, I can wind up with a cheap Guitar Hero bundle for my collection) So, I called Blockbuster, and GH: Aerosmith also trades in for 22 for the 360, in addition to the PS3 version that trades in for the same. So a 9-10 dollar wireless guitar after tax doesn't sound too bad to me, plus with the forementioned option of making the bundle complete again in a couple of years. But, does anyone know if the Aerosmith game is going to say "NOT FOR RESALE" in place of the UPC? That would cause a major hiccup in the trading process.

It might. I tried to do the same thing when RedOctane have the GHWT / GH3 for $ 100. Both game doesn't have a barcode. so I'm pretty sure, GH Aerosmith don't have either.
You can always make your own barcode through upcdatabase.com and tape over it if you want to try.

Thanks for the info! Well, crap - wish I had known before I just bought two Oblivions last night - could have gotten a third game. Though with the 20% off I guess the difference isn't that much. Plus I don't want to have to go back up there any time soon. But my local GS might have some good stuff using B2G1...
FoS - Interesting, I didn't see anything about this Reward Zone coupon. Did they email it to you, or can you get it on the site? I'm somewhat interested, but only because I have a RZ cert I need to use and my son actually wants the game. It is kind of the opposite for me - I don't need the guitar (swimming in them at the moment ;) - have GH III, GHWT, and RB1 guitars) though I guess we could save it as a backup.

I guess a lot of people on Slickdeals are getting the bundles for 30 after coupon, so it sounds like a-go. Also, I kind of figured that I may have to do some fanagling at Gamestop, but I kind of like Gi's idea of taping a UPC over the NOT FOR RESALE. It sounds very gutsy.
Also, I changed the dates and put a detailed explanation of why future dates are shown. I hope it's clear for when newbies to Blockbuster come in and read it.

I was pretty exited when I saw this. I went through and froze all the column headers so they would stay put when sorting alphabetically. Then I started to enter TIVs but didn't understand the date format. The dates seem all screwy. For the most part they seem to be in day/month/year, but some are just wrong.
Time Crisis 4 $26.00 28/07/37
All the ones in the DD/MM/YY format have days >12 so Google didn't format them. I tried entering December 10, 2008 as 10/12/08 and it recognized the format as a date and expanded my year entry -> 10/12/2008.
So they look nothing like the other updates. Is there a way to turn off or change the cell formating?

Yeah, but c'mon, assuming you can find any at all, you aren't going to find 3 at one store... I've been to 6 Gamestops the last few days and have found 5 total - and 2 of those were disc-only (bought one, left the other).

Strange enough they still sell Army of Two used for $25. For some I assumed (stupid me) that since the new was $21, the used version would ring up a few bucks cheaper. Nope, $25 used still. I bought it last night with some trades and a few other purchases so I didn't notice until later. Uh oh, that would ruin a lot of my plans for massive, dual city/district flipping between the two days of overlap. I was going to hit up like 5-7 stores on the 23rd before traveling to my parents' that evening and flipping the 24th. You are correct, which was my thinking also. I'm not sure why anything would start Wed. other than it being Christmas Eve if they were trying to do some sort of Christmas thing. I would still trust in it starting on the 23 but I wanted to report that there was some confusion already so there could be problems on that day.

Yeah, that makes a HUGE difference given that the GS promo ends the 25th. Since GS will be closed on Christmas that leaves only Christmas Eve to flip anything to GS and be guaranteed of the current 30% promo. And I think I might just get killed by my family if I spend any substantial amount of time that day flipping . Guitar Hero World Tour game only for Wii trades in for 26. It's 34.99 at Gamestop-- assuming the sale is online tomorrow with CAG16 and Edge stacking, the game would cost about 21 used after tax (hopefully my math didn't fail me too much) It's probably not worth flipping unless you're desperate for giftcards, but I'm going to consider using one or even two as filler if I see any games I want to buy for 34.99.
EDIT: World Tour is also 44.99 for the 360 and available online. If it trades in for 35 at BB, it'd be a good option if there's anything for 44.99 that you're getting. If anyone wants to call and confirm that it trades in for 35, feel free since I'm going to be busy for a while.

I'm not sure which is correct but I could see my DM being wrong, he is all the time. Just wanting everyone to be prepared in case there is mass confusion at BB around the 23rd and 24th.
Don't most promos at Blockbuster start on Tuesdays, so that would be the 23rd.
I seriously doubt BBV would start the promo on a Wednesday. BBV has always started promos/programs/etc. on Tuesdays with only a few rare exceptions. Those exceptions always started on a Friday for a weekend special and are usually district/region specific. I'd be willing to stake my next paycheck on the fact that the B1G1 starts on the 23rd. I think your DM just got his/her dates confused.

So i think i'm better off trying to get a monster Jam with the 20% coupon tonight, then more oblivions with the b2g1. Need another copy of Nintendogs for the kids, so hopefully i can get 2 Oblivions and one of those.

Bah - you lucky bastards with the overstock of GotY. Enjoy your easy access :bomb:...
I have YET to find a single 360 or PS3 Legendary across 10 or so Gamestop stores. It is way worse than Oblivion even... I'd like one just to add some variety to my trade-ins.
I found a single 360 copy. DISC ONLY and said **** YOU LEGENDARY when i found it. And I found a complete Monster Jam amongst around 8 stores. Sad really , so much potential
B2G1 is going to rock. $40->$105 with Oblivion? Yes please :).
The math is a little off.. :)
It's 48.58 + tax --> $ 105.

No copies anywhere near me, but might help some of you going on B2G1 runs tomorrow:
Alone in the Dark: Inferno (PS3) $26.99 (GS) -> $30 (BBV TIV)
Thanks Mkernan...
By the way, anybody else seeing Motorstorm 2 for $ 32? I went to 2 BBVs yesterday, and it ring up full price.
The motorstorm 2 thread gets a 5 star rating, but I don't see that many people get the deals.

No, my local store looked it up in the computer and said $59.99. I'm beginning to think its a franchise thing maybe. Can't think of what else it would be based upon.

Really? I almost merged that thread into here and added those prices to the OP. Glad I didn't. I think I'll have to go in there and state that it is not a regular Blockbuster thing if others haven't already.
Wow - there's actually an Alone In the Dark Inferno at a store not too far from me (15 miles).

Yeah, all those awesome prices on new games seem to hold at my stores, but not the Motorstorm: PR one for some strange reason. I already bought Burnout Paradise for $20.99 and Ratchet and Clank PS3 for $32.99, so I know most of these kickass new prices are nationwide. Pretty weird.

I don't think they'll let you use the 20% off coupon (which I think expires today) in conjunction with the b2g1 promo, so it'll be more like $50->$105, and that's only if you're able to find them.

How many that you're trying to buy?
It's kind of hit and miss because GS has a policy not to sell to "dealer". Just go back the next shift, or buy 2 at a time. They usually start to hassle when it's more than 2, especially a game like Wii Sports.

Hey, for anyone reading about the deal for Guitar Hero World Tour for 360 with wired guitar and faceplate (which you add for free shipping), I called and confirmed that Guitar Hero World Tour trades in for 35. So, if you take a bet hoping the TIV maintains into next week, you can get a free... wired guitar and faceplate.
But I still haven't met anyone who DOESN'T have 90 guitars sitting around, so it could be useless info.

Just bought 2 copies of 360 Legendary from them yesterday...
Man, getting rid of this SST from the arcade 2-pack is proving more trouble that I expected. I went in to my local store where it turned out (after reviewing receipts) that I had not yet traded one. So, I thought, it will be a snap since they know what they are doing there. Well, the 2 worst employees are there (one who's been there 2+ years to boot). After about 20 minutes of fussing they were able to accept Smash Court Tennis but not SST - this after they looked up both games and gave me the correct quotes for them. The (twisted) reasoning was that although the Smash Court Tennis doesn't scan, it does have a bar code so they can take that but not the other. Uh, OK... So, I know I can go back there when the manager or former GR dude is working, but I then I have to worry about the employee from tonight seeing that SST/Arcade cover once they are processing the trade-ins and then knowing I went over her head to trade it in. (In fact, they were processing my previous trades from a few days ago and putting them out on the floor as I walked in!). Oy, why do these things have to be so difficult!
I could save it for another store where they are also likely to take it, but it's never a sure thing. Maybe I'll just print a real SST cover and go to the other store... Blah...

Try taking it in Disk only, they can't complain about a barcode then!!

That's pretty unfortunate. I was actually able to snag three during the last B2G1 and trade them around Thanksgiving, but none have popped up since then. And Oblivion is turning out to be much more of a crapshoot that I had originally anticipated, with 5 of 7 stores not having cases.

I don't believe that for a minute. First of all, I bought two of the same game tonight. I also bought three Amored Core and Brothers in Arms at the same time. Also, at one store I did a return rebuy with three copies of Legendary and three copies of Alone in the Dark for the B2G1, and no one batted an eye. Looks like you've got some bad luck at your store.

I do that. I try not to do it too often, though, and it's not the store I'm worried about, it's the DM seeing multiples on my account. I have two, so I try to split them up, but I'm debating whether to trade another Blacksite or UT3, since it's been a while since I last traded those games on account #1.
They did ask me once why I had multiples of the same game. I just told them the "truth": I buy them on sale or off college students at the local university. They seem to have bought it, either way they don't really seem to care. I think they were just more curious than anything.

Update on Motorstorm 2:
It was a pricing mistake on Blockbusters part.
So I felt like I had to try to redeem myself so I stopped by again and it was lower than I remembered - it was priced at $29.99. I picked it up and went to the checkout line and it did scan at $59.99. The manager sold it to me for $29.99 since it was marked that price... but I imagine theres really no chance anyone else will have that luck.
Sorry for any time wasted on looking for this non-existant deal. I should have just assumed it was too good to be true. or that their employees make mistakes.

So, what's everyone going for with the B2G1?
I'm personally looking for Legendary and Oblivion. I want to buy 3 Oblivion games all at once, but for some reason I think the people working there might look at me suspiciously. I'll try and report back though ;). If I can't find a filler for the B2G1, I'm just going to bite and pick up DBZ: Burst Limit. As far as I know, the only $26.99 games that are flippable are Oblivion, Legendary and DBZ.

Do they charge tax at all when you buy the VV? I know this has been asked already, but I'd like to be 100% certain that is doesnt vary by state or they charge tax on the activation fee or something stupid like that.
I plan on buying 2 Oblivions (360) and 1 Legendary (ps3) and get them all put on the same card for exactly $106. I just want to make sure I can swipe it and buy a $100 VV at another store for exactly $105.95 and not a penny more.
I'd greatly appreciate any input. I apologize again if it's been asked but I'd rather repeat a question instead of starting trouble at a local BBV.

I'll be getting 2 more Oblivion GOTY copies and a free Nintendogs Chiuaua DS games for my 2 year old. No more legendary's around.
Got denied trading at Blockbuster in Neptune, again. Couple months ago i had a note that i had to call manager, which I did. I think i traded there once since then. Tonight the clerk said the note is still there, so either the last time they ignored the note or it's back on for some reason.
It isn't one of my main 3 stores I trade to but would like to know if it is in good standing, so i'll call again tomorrow.
If it isn't fixed i'll have to do a road trip to flip Oblivions and I don't really have time to go far just to trade 1 copy per store. Hope for some price drops tomorrow.

I dont think they are supposed to charge tax on them, because then the purchaser would ahve to pay tax 2 times, once on the card and then once on the items they purchase with the cards, that it why BBV gives you tax on top of the trades you trade in.

Edit: And to Quintox, someone reported a $30 TIV earlier in the thread, so it's a decent flip but for how hard it'll be to find a used copy (I have one within 50 miles of my college house as well as my permanent address) it doesn't seem worth the ratio when Oblivion GOTY is going to be a whole lot more abundant.

What darkrider means is yes they charge tax when using the card, but NOT when purchasing it. Otherwise you would be taxed twice which would probably be against some law or at least would piss off customers.
thought he didn't read my question correctly. Thx for clearing that up. I appreciate it.

Monster Jam is now $14.99 new at Gamestop. Not great, but if your making the rounds 14.99-->$22 ain't bad if you can't find used copies.

In florida i don't get extra trade in credit for taxes. You are a lucky fellow. What state do u trade in? If i trade in Oblivion for example, I will get exactly $35 and then when I buy something, I get charged 6.5% sales tax.
I walys get tax added to my credit, I traded in Conflict Denied ops for 360 last night, they gave me the $15 TIV + $1.05 for the 7% tax, so I got 16.05 credit for the game.
