I called BB (not for this deal) and on a whim decided to ask because I'd prefer to get RZ points and was told there is in fact a corporate memo saying not to price match.
I'm still tempted to try it though.

You won't see any RB2 shipments the rest of the week. The DC's have none, and TRU is having most stores save a small quantity for a roto on 1/4.

I got my 360 copy PM'd at Best Buy in Florence, KY at the Customer Service desk, by the Customer Service manager. They were aware of the price match (in fact, the employee that passed me off to the manager said it was "another one of the TRU Rock Band PM's"), so if they got the corporate memo, they didn't follow it. I got my RZ points and am almost at my second GC for the Gamer's Club.
Like most of those on the thread here, the PM is the way to go, if you can get the Sunday circular to the store.
Thanks OP for posting this deal and thanks to those that posted their successes with PM's!

Couldn't tell anyone if the TRU over by my place (Columbus Sawmill) where I got one at has any more, but the 7 AM lines yesterday were sparse, people wanted Wii's instead, and they had some nice stacks of systems. There is a Circuit City across the street slightly off the beaten path from there, maybe it's a PM opportunity. Heck, they need business SOMEHOW.
Good call! I'll have to check there after work tomorrow.
I think people on Craigslist are just stupid in general. You can be selling a lot of Xbox 360 games for like $50 and someone will ask you if that actual 360 is included. Or if you're selling a bunch of Tom Brady football cards for $10 and someone will ask if the $100 rookie card is included.
Criagslist has its pros and cons but I have to admit its one of the best ways to get stuff.
Over 20 different good 360 and ps3 games for 30 bucks or less(many shortly after they released)
Rockband set for 360(75 bucks last Feb) and PS2(new trade for my old 360 set).
Nintendo Wii via trade for a refurbished 360.
Slighty used Viewsonic wide screen LCD monitor for 70 bucks.
Slighty used Ipod video 30G for 100 bucks about a year ago.
Though I once had someone want to trade a bag of yard clippings and some tin cans for something I was selling on there.

I don't think the outcry is so much about the profits more than the fact that they're hoarding everything so no other bargain hunters in their area can take advantage of sales/clearances.
I guess that's kind of understandable then. I just wouldn't agree with it if someone ended up with an extra. Maybe they bought it for a freind who bailed. You just never know.
If someone has the balls to purchase and carry multiple sets of these just to make a few $$$, more power to them. I feel like a dork with just one giant box :)

Criagslist has its pros and cons but I have to admit its one of the best ways to get stuff.
I put stuff on Craigslist from time to time. Stuff I wouldn't put on Ebay because I don't want to pay a listing fee for something that might not sell at the price I want it for. If it doesn't sell on Craigslist, no harm, no foul. But people need to stop with the absurdly low counter offer or trying to trade me things for what I'm selling (like a motorcycle helmet!!!!!).
I also had a Nigerian try to scam me by trying to tell me to ship out the item the moment I get the cashier's check, because it's a present and the check is as good as cash!
Also, some people who respond to your ad are only looking for an e-mail address with a full name, so they can see if they can hack into store accounts now that they have a legitimate e-mail address to go on.

I was able to PM at Walmart in Greenwood, SC. The cashier acted like he was personally offended and called the manager over, but the manager ok'd it no problem. No gift card but it was a great deal anyway at that price.

As I posted before, I went to TRU yesterday to pick up RB2 but was told it was on "roto?" hold and I could not purchase it. The clerk confirmed that the item was in stock but he could not sell it. The store manager confirmed the information. I was told to check back today.
So.... after work today I went back to TRU, grabbed the slip from the R-Zone and headed to the counter. I was told that they were "sold out". I explained that I was told yesterday that I was told it could not be sold. He then tried to tell me it was just the guitar version. I corrected him by explaining the details of the print ad. He then changed lanes and said that their was only 1 left in stock but was not going to be available to be sold until sometime in January.
Fed up, I politely asked to speak to the manager. He told me to go to the CS desk to see him. I explained that I was not going to hunt down the manager, he could call her and have her come to me, that is the way it works (I was getting increasingly frustrated)
When the manager arrived, I explained the misinformation everytime the clerk opened his mouth and I wanted a clear and definitive reason why an item that was in stock and advertised was not able to be sold. The manager said he never heard of the hold and would find out what was going on. He went to his office for maybe 60 seconds, returned and told the clerk to sell it to me and explained that there was a mistake with the "hold" and apologized for the trouble.
When the clerk opened the cabinet to get RB2, there was at least 12 copies. Lying ass.
Long story short, I got RB2 for $117 + $25 GC. Don't give up CAGs.

Yes I got mine early Sunday morning with no problem. The first TRU I went to was sold out of the xbox 360 version, so I had to go to another TRU 30 minutes away.
If they are sold out, you can try to price match it at Walmart, Sears, Best Buy, or Circuit City. The ad is good until the 20th.

At least you not like the guy that bought 15:applause:.
exactly dude. i bought one to sell. i looked on craigslist and there are 10 new bundles for sale at 175 bucks a pop so i offer to sell mine for 150. i mean if people want to go to target and pay close to 200 after tax thats fine and if people are smart enough to price match thats fine to. i just tried to find a nice medium and i get called a fucking criminal.

Yes, it's in the ad. It's pretty clear just by looking at the thread title. You didn't even have to read the entire first page to get that information either. Reading isn't that painful.
There's also a search function for each individual thread you can use in the future.

Stopped into the Florence KY TRU before closing last night to grab a few cheapass games and got to talking to the guy working. He said he was hoping to grab a RB2 bundle for himself later this week when they get more. He said that they expected a restock during the sale so those who missed out on sunday might still have a shot.

Ohh, I want to take advantage of this deal so badly, but I can't really afford it at the moment, even at this price...
I already have RB2, 2 wired guitars, the RB1 drums, and the mic. But I really want an all wireless setup too! (Still waiting for the first good deal on Lips to get wireless microphones!)
I just keep telling myself that there are no TRUs down here, and I don't have time to go up to the Times Square store (it's finals week here) - it helps a little.

(Still waiting for the first good deal on Lips to get wireless microphones!)
a. from what friends have told me, the game's horrible...
b. from what i've read, the wireless mic's from Lips don't work with RB, so if you're getting them just for that than save your money...
Logitech DOES make a wireless mic that's compatible with RB, it's $79.99, but that may be totally worth it to someone that wants a completely wireless set-up. i know i was thinking about it for a while now, since the wired mics still go for a decent amount of money on ebay...

There's a forthcoming patch that will allow the Lips mic to work with Rock Band 2. When Lips drops in price it'd be a worthwhile pickup especially since it comes with two mics, which is nice for those who like to have local score duels/tug of wars. Or two RB2 owners can split the cost after figuring out who gets the game.

Maybe you're not a criminal, but denying someone else the opportunity to get in on a really great deal and offering a comparatively mediocre deal for your own personal gain seems against the spirit of CAG. Somewhere else in this thread someone was offering to pick up bundles and send them to people for cost + shipping. If you don't see the difference between those and why people would react negatively, then there's really not much more to discuss.

Price match, price match, price match. I know there's a lot, but at least scan some of the previous pages of the thread, because people have been having decent success rates at a variety of retailers (I was able to get a hassle-free match without the gift card at Wal-Mart, so just under $120 for the XBox 360 version). It probably helps if you have a copy of the TRU circular in hand.

Don't judge one guy for trying to make a buck. Reward the charitable guy for being willing to do what he's doing. Everyone has different circumstances, and you can't judge people either way. Unfortunately, that's what a lot of people on the internet tend to do.
Plenty of people buy two copies of things at a deal price and hope to resell (aka "flip", "scalp" etc.), one to recoup some of the cost. Just look at the Persona 4 Expansion Pack thread.

RB2 TRU deal is the best value, the new instruments are much better, look and feel better, strudier, and if you bought everything separate you'd be paying a fortune.
I contemplated buying 2 RB2 TRU deals just so I could have back up instruments...and with the bonus giftcard you it definitely takes off the edge.

This is an amazing deal. If I had room in my apartment for another set of instruments, I would probably jump on this. But I already have 2 RB 1 guitars and the drum set. Though, that back up set of instruments/better instruments is hard to pass up. If I didn't already have RB2, I would definitely buy it.
Good things come to those who wait, unfortunately, I always want to play now :)

I'm selling it for 150 after paying 117 then i've made 33 dollars. If a person were to buy it at full price (and as we speak people are doing just that) they would pay 200. 150 dollars for a 200 dollar game is hardly a mediocre deal. If a person paid cost plus shipping it would be around 140 so that's a 10 dollar gap but they have to wait a week or more for it. I do see the difference. Some people can afford to give things away at cost and some people want to make 33 dollars so they can buy their mom something for christmas. But hey, your right and I'm wrong because you ended your point with "there's really not much more to discuss" and you already have an army of people quoting you with smiley faces. Merry Christmas.

I think I'll just keep the bundle and possibly trade it out for the PS3 version when they get more in. That way I'll have an epic "band" with 2 sets of drums, 2 guitars, and 2 mics. Unfortunately, none of my friends have RB1 or RB2 so this seems all futile I suppose lol.
EDIT: Found out the answer to my question. Bummer...

I hate to jump in here, but I think you're missing the overall point/argument people are trying to make. Essentially, you're making a decent profit off of a deal that is widely known and within most people's holiday budgets. If you're a parent and your kid asks for Rock Band 2 for Xmas, are you willing to pay $200 or $117 as you paid? I'm going to guess the latter of the two. Selling yours for $150 is still a $30 mark up (or your profit from the buyer) when they could buy it for the same price you paid. Are you going to tell them that you actually paid $117 at Toys R Us and that it's available for them to buy as well? No. That's dishonest, but not criminal. That's the argument.
Instead of re-selling the bundles at a mark up, why don't you simply tell people where to buy them? You're not turning a profit, but you are helping people who don't know about the available deal. You ended your rant with "Merry Christmas," but you seem to be missing that "Christmas" spirit of giving and kindness. That's a little ironic, yes?
So here's the bottom line: If these bundles become hard to find or the deal ends, then yes re-selling them at a mark up is ok in my book. At that point you're giving someone a deal at $150 when the product is then widely available for the MSRP of $189.99.
At this point though, you're ripping off innocent parents/people/whoever for your own personal gain. If you feel that's right, then that's your problem.

Some people can afford to give things away at cost and some people want to make 33 dollars so they can buy their mom something for christmas.I don't really care if you're making a minute profit, that's your business. I don't like it but at least your not announcing a hoard-fest here. But the sentence I've highlighted above is offensive. Do you think we're stupid? Wouldn't you have been better off spending the $109 on your Mom directly? If you're out to make a profit, stick to your guns and say it but don't play like your some poor altruistic gamer. You're obviously not that bad off if you're buying 1+ copies of RB2 SE, even at this awesome price.

By buying the bundle with the express purpose of reselling you are creating an artificial shortage. You aren't selling a $200 game for $150, you are selling a $109 game for $150. And I bet at $150 you aren't throwing in the giftcard either. Since you could afford to purchase the game, by definition, you could afford to sell it at cost. Your argument about buying your mother a gift is disingenuous as you had the money for the game, so you could have used that to get your mother a gift.
To the thread: this is a killer deal, but with one Rockband set in the house, mostly unused, I couldn't justify getting another. Kudos to all who got one for use. I am flagging them on Craigslist.

I posted this on another thread, so sorry if you see it twice:
Is the TRU Rockband 2 deal a two day thing only? I went ALL over LA yesterday to 4 different TRUs but came up with nothing and someone mentioned it was only a twoday deal. Need to find out if I should keep searching or give up.
also, what would be the likelihood of TRUs receiving new RB2 shipments this week so I can snag that deal? All the places I went to said they didn't know if they'd be getting them in this week, but I call bs on that since it's a huge game this season...so yeah...
Also, if I can't find it soon will price matcing at BB or CC be my best bet?
That elite bundle is a decent deal. What about NBA 09 for $10 that Amazon had the day after black friday?
Nah. My local Target still has copies of this game for $14.98 for a few weeks now and they don't seem to be able to move them at that price.

Well after three days of looking around I finally got a PM from the local Guitar Center. They had only one in stock and were shocked at the ad price. They even took an additional 10% off, didn't get the gift card but I wasn't worred about it anyways, would have needed to spend it in a month and a half as it is.

I have restrained myself from the CL conversation so far...BUT you guys should cut him some slack. He is not charging an outrageous amount and smart people in his area can PM at the surrounding stores to get it for $109. He did not buy every copy in a 20 mile radius or anything (at all stores that PM), so there are opportunities for others to get in on the deal (-$25 GC YMMV).
IMO all of you that 'flip' games to GS, EB, GC screw other gamers FAR, FAR more than a person buying 2 of something and putting 1 on CL or Ebay. You buy up new games on clearance and trade them to a corporation that jacks up the price for any gamer that wants the product. Ebay/CL at least give gamers outside of a specific geographic area to get a game below cost, so if they are sold out you can still get one.
He is selling something at a lower price, than what other stores are charging and it is helping him to reduce his cost for the one he is keeping. It is still a deal even at $200 to some people, since it is tax free.

I give up on this deal, the closest TRU to me is being really sneaky. I called yesterday to see if they have them in stock, the guy on the phone says they do, I ask again, RockBand 2 bundle with all the instruments right? He says yes...I stop by 10min later, and he can't find them, he gets on the walkie-talkie asks where the Rockband's are, the guy over the walkie says "we don't have any", then the guy helping me out replies, "we got some this moring, I saw them"...the phone rings and the guy over the walkie says "answer the phone", then they guy helping me goes, "oh, really, um...ok...yeah"...he looks at me and says, yeah we sold out.
WTF!?
Going to Walmart to attempt a price match later today.

An employee at Toys R Us said that the deal goes through the week, but that's not 100% confirmation. I think it will all depend on the store, as some were probably hesitant to support the deal to begin with. So while you can keep trying Toys R Us over and over again for the rest of the week, I'd also try to get a price match from nearby competitors such as Best Buy and Walmart.

Stopped into the Florence KY TRU before closing last night to grab a few cheapass games and got to talking to the guy working. He said he was hoping to grab a RB2 bundle for himself later this week when they get more. He said that they expected a restock during the sale so those who missed out on sunday might still have a shot.
I picked up the last PS3 copy at the Glenway Ave. location (No 360 copies). They did say they'd be restocked, but didn't offer up any sort of timeframe.

I was lucky to pick one up on Sunday morning while running errands. All of the TRUs in my area (3 total) are all sold out. I was able to find a $10 off coupon which brought the total down to $100.12 (I am not sure why I only received $9.86 off, but I am not complaining).

Pricematched at the Tigard, Oregon Circuit City without any issues. With them taking an extra 10% of the difference off the price, it was down to $101.99. I had a $15 off $100 coupon that they gave me when I ordered the $40 controller + HD package, meaning I got RB2 for $86.99. Awesome.

Not true on the bolded part. For a simplified example, let's say I have $500 to my name, and my $500 rent is coming due on Friday. I literally could not afford to spend my money on anything else, as I need it for rent, so mom is going to have a sad Christmas. However, if I spend $100 on a game today (bringing me down to $400), then sell it for $150 tomorrow, I now have $550, and I can get a present for her up to $50 and still make rent.
You're right, if he was able to buy it then by definition he could sell at cost. However, that would only get him right back to where he started, without money for a present.

Not that I'm saying he's telling the truth, of course. Just pointing out the flaw in your logic.

That particular page of the ad doesn't have the words "Toys R Us" anywhere on it, so PMing with just a printout of the scan is probably highly YMMV.
You can try grocery stores, if you need the actual ad. The Fred Meyer here, for example, still has Sunday papers right next to today's papers, because people still want to buy them for all the coupons.
I got lucky and found an ad that someone had just set aside at TRU. The registers only had the new ad with the 16th/17th sales.

Make sure you're looking at the Dec. 14 - Dec. 20 circular online, and not their daily specials ad. The Rock Band 2 bundle is an itty-bitty picture on the lower right of page 9. If you still don't see it, try zip code 27513.

Logic dictates that if he had the money to purchase the game on the chance that he could turn around and sell it for a profit he isn't nearly as hard up for cash as he is saying. It's not like we are talking about some real hard to get desiable toy. People who are in tight financial spots are generally less likely to risk their money for a small return on their investment. No, I am not taking into account the scenario you are describing, but it didn't strike me that that was the case.
Mom should be having a sad Christmas anyway if the only way her son can get her a present is scalping things on Craigslist.

fyi - website and store promotions don't always match each other. even if it says so on the website. It's like FedEx and FedEx ground, they have the same name but they don't follow the same rules.
I got the Halo 3 lengendary pack for $39 off the website (vs. $99.99), fought tooth and nail with the ppl at the local TRU, they just bounced me to their custserv and I had to make a bunch of phone calls. I did eventually get it from calling the 800 number, in which they took off the deal after I got it for the out of stock double advertised product.
Hopefully your TRU will honor the promo, but don't be surprised if they don't.

I got it pricematched from Circuit City today. I think most stores have a policy of only price matching in-stock items, unfortunately. That said, in my experience Best Buy will do anything and everything to avoid giving you a discount - I have never successfully gotten a price match from them, for every reason from the item not being in stock to "that price is too low, I won't do it."

When I went to my TRU on Sun, the clerk rang up the PS3 version and it came up to 189.99. Actually I asked for a price check 1st, and then that's when the 189.99 showed up. There were about 20 people behind me so instead of debating, I just asked him if he had a circular? He pulled one out from behind the counter and let me look at it. After finding the ad price, I showed it to him, and this time as he actually rang up the bundle rather than just a price check, it still came up the same price $189.99, but right before we finished the transaction, the total came down to the correct price and he added the gift card.
So to everyone who is getting price checks that ring up the wrong price, you might just try and take the transaction all the way through to completion, and see what happens. It worked for me. He didn't have to override anything or punch in any codes or price corrections either.
Go for it, worst comes to worse, just take it to the CS returns desk and return it right then and there.
Good luck to all...

The CSR at the counter did the whole 9 yards, though - looked up the offer on the TRU site, called BBY to confirm the price. He didn't ask if it was in-stock, though. Got the giftcard too. Score! I only have the game itself and wanted all the instruments (still using a wired Xplorer - favorite guitar so far, and RB1 drums), so I'll probably sell the game, making the instrument set pretty damned cheap.

I went to TRU today to check out the deal, well RB2 was marked at $189.99 still. Also all the ads in the store were missing the section with the videogame part (which included the RB2 deal). Go figure they didn't send me the TRU ad to my home . Well I guess im out of luck like always, unless somebody knows a way for me to still grab it? I seen 3 PS3 Bundles two, which is funny because I called be4 and the employee said they didn't have any. Well if any1 can help I really appreciate.
P.S.: toysrus.com doesn't have the "weekly ad" link anymore.
It still says $109.99 on the toysrus.com online ad. Click the $109.99 price, and it shows it's good for 360 and ps3. Print and take to store. They should honor it at trus even without the ad

So it's not just a normal gift card?
It's a special card that's considered a promo item. It's a loophole that TRU uses to get around the law that says gift cards cannot have expiration dates. I don't know of any other retailers that do it though.

Anyone got any good tips on Socal (LA) stores? I searched TRUs in Culver City, Los Feliz, Alhambra, and West LA somewhere (on la cienega) and came up with nothing. I searched the one in Bell this morning with the same result, though they said they usually get shipments at night so perhaps mornings ar ebest time to check?
Also, what have been the best places to PM in socal? Any BB's give you a GC along with the PM <====haha contractions! :P

Which version do you need, PS3 or 360? If you want to make the trek to the San Fernando Valley, the Porter Ranch store may still have a few left. Somebody reported yesterday that there were three bundles left for 360, and somebody else reported that they just got another shipment last night.
As for PMing, I have never gotten a BB in LA to PM a gift card deal. LA stores in general are pretty tough to deal with. I've shopped in other cities across the West Coast and PMing is a breeze everywhere else.

Good luck with that. TRU has never pricematched with online prices . Bringing in a picture printed from the web is just inviting a headache trying to convince them it was from the circular and not the website. They could claim it was from a different zipcode as there's no way to prove which zipcode you input online.
Every TRU has a copy of the circular, there should be no reason to have to print anything out.

For me they did, but not the gift card. good enough.

Anybody know the current trade in value for the original rockband's guitar, drums, and mic? I'm looking to get around $50 for all the old instruments, but if I can't get that at Gamestop, I may have to try elsewhere.
The new instruments are really nice though. I love how silent the drums are, makes a huge difference. The guitar is really nice as well.

I got it pricematched from Circuit City today. They did not want to give me the $25 gift card so I demanded they follow their own 110% policy instead of 100% if they were going to stiff me on the gift card. Their manager agreed to it. Truth be told, I find TRU to be overpriced 99% of the time, so I'd gladly take the 10$ in real money over the 25$ in fake.

When I saw this sat night in little letters on the front page I thought it was for a gimped guitar version. I noticed at 12pm monday what this deal was for. This is NUTS. I called every shithole TRU, they all had me on hold for 15-20 minutes. Finally found one with them in stock. I still can't believe I got it. Why this isn't on a banner on the front page in big letters I don't know. I thought for sure I was going to miss out on this deal. I mean 100 dollars off. I got my bundle for xbox 360 today at circuit city! The toys r us in my town was sold out but Circuit City price matched and gave it to me for 109.99
Although I believe circuit city usually will account for the gift card that was offered as well, and usually CC gives a 10 percent discount when matching price, I wasn't going to ask questions because they aren't supposed to match price when the item is no longer in stock at the place where the deal is running (TRU, in this case)
So maybe they could've knocked off another 25 dollars for the giftcard, and maybe another 10 percent for the price match..but it's still 80 dollars off normal price without those!

from a retailer's pov, so TRU doesn't make a profit on RB2 or very very very little but they get a 100% sell thru on those products...then on top of that the $25 giftcard which activates 12 hours after you get it brings you back to their store to make a 2nd purchase. The consumer in their mind will say, I just saved $105 on RB2 I'm going to buy even more stuff.
More sell thru on products, numbers look better for TRU, consider it a TRU simulus rebate. (gosh, you think I took notes at the last sales meeting)
...and you know it is quite possible someone will forget they have the GC or lose it before the expiration date of 1/31/09.
But what else does this do for TRU?
It brings in more customers that would have gone to other competitors, esp the ones that are going out of business like CC and KB Toys. You know the places that PM are cursing out TRU for printing an ad like that.
Not complaining though, it's perhaps the best after black friday deal I've ever seen and able to take advantage of. Huzzah for TRU and kudos to CAG.

I got so lucky. I called Best Buy and they told me they'd PM the price down to 84.99 after the giftcard was factored into it, but only if I the TRU had it in stock. They of course didn't, but I went down to try. I waited twenty minutes in line, and then another ten minutes while the clerk tried to find the ad online. Her PC screwed up, so she went to another station... then I overheard the manager say, "You gotta call the store and make sure they have it."
SHIT.
So she got on the phone and literally no one picked up for ten minutes. So, I start to do a little pace... nothing mean, or anything, but I check my cell phone for the time, with a face that screams, "Oy vey, I've been here forty minutes and I've got a bar mitzvah to go to a 9:00." Finally she hangs up and just does the PM anyway. Sweet! 91.XX after tax. That's an insane fucking price. I've never been good at Guitar Hero, but I'll try it for 100 dollars off... my girlfriend is super psyched.

Anyone have any luck in the san francisco area? i just came back from bby telling me the nearest tru was sold out for the past few days and wouldn't PM it.
I was able to get the deal PM'd at a WM in Fremont on Albrae on Monday morning. At that time they had a bunch of 360 and PS3 versions of RB2, but by now they might be out.
It was an extremely easy process at this WM. The guy was familiar with the TRU deal, and when I showed him the actual ad from the Sunday paper, he said no problem - How many do you want? I said I'll take 2.
The kicker is that I got the $25 GC with one of them but he couldn't do the GC for both; I didn't even think about complaining about that!
The hardest part was getting a gift receipt. I forgot to ask him at checkout, and had to go to CS where it took a long time to get the whole thing figured out. It's all good though and this is just an awesome deal just in time for Xmas.

How do you handle a price match if an instant gift card is included with a purchase?
The value of an instant gift card with purchase will be considered when calculating a price match. If the combined value of a competitor's product and instant gift card is lower than the combined value of Best Buy's product price and instant gift card, Best Buy will match either the price or the instant gift card value, depending on the offer.
Not sure how helpful this will be to some, but it is worth a look. You can interpret it to mean they will match one or the other, but not both.

I tried a couple TRUs again yesterday. SoCal employees are kind of dicks -_- Refusing to let me know if/when shipments would come in.
I then decided to give up on the TRU search and hopped on over to Best Buy. PLENTY of stock. The clerk looked at me and the ad all skeptical-like but I had nothing to hide since everything was legit. BB said they take off 10% of the difference (at least this BB said so) but they didn't -_- and now GC card either so total was a little less than $120. Oh well, I used my BB GC I got as holiday bonus and knocked it down to $70!

It would seem that if your TRU isn't selling it for that pricepoint that they'd have them in stock. Since they'd have them in stock you can just go price match it at BB or CC where they're supposed to call and confirm that TRU still has them available.

It still says $109.99 on the toysrus.com online ad. Click the $109.99 price, and it shows it's good for 360 and ps3. Print and take to store. They should honor it at trus even without the ad

It is extremely ridiculous that TRU is refusing to sell RB2 when it's advertised for this week. On the plus side, this means that anybody PMing at another store shouldn't have a problem since TRU would have to say that they have it in stock.

I went to Toys R Us, Circuit City, Best Buy, Sears, and Wal-Mart over the past two days.
Toys R Us said they didn't have any and after some probing I found out they had put all of theirs in the back.
The next three all had it, but had to call Toys R Us to verify and Toys R Us of course said no (I felt bad for the Sears employee since he had to lug that huge box from the back all the way to the department only for me to say I couldn't pay for it). They checked the three Toys R Us in the area and none of them had it.
Then Wal-Mart had the 360 version and not the PS3 one, the guy said they had sold the last PS3 bundle that morning.
This stinks.

Dug my receipt out of the trash from buying the bundle in October. Nearly two months since I bought it. Took it in last night to see if I had a shot at getting the difference refunded. Not only did I get $75 back in cash, she gave me the $25 gift card as well. Cha-ching!

you can check sears.com to see if they have stock, which shouldn't be a problem to be honest.
Dont forget that Sears will also knock 10% off giving it to you for 101.99 before tax. No GC for me when i tried, but still ~90 off retail aint too bad..:bouncy:

BEST BUY IS NO LONGER MATCHING THE TRU PRICE AT THE CORPORATE LEVEL. (YMMV if someone decides to break the rules)
I got denied on an AFTER PURCHASE price match trying to credit back the difference.
The store manager said they are not matching it because it is a "bundle with a Gift Card"
Wouldn't even budge on the $109.99 price without the gift card.
Called Corporate while standing there and spoke to a CSR AND a Supervisor. Same line
We do not price match on bundles. HOWEVER they said it was because the Special Edition is a bundle, nothing to do with the gift card. Reasoning with them that the bundle is the retail sku and others have gotten it price matched, they wouldn't budge.
Apparenly BB got wise the TRU price and some joker in corporate decided to play their "no bundle price matching" clause to eliminate them having to honor their written policy. Worst Customer Service Experience of the Year.
I immediately returned $325 worth of product I had JUST purchased, including the RB2 bundle. Best Buy is the WORST possible place as far as customer satisfaction is concerned, I have hardly EVER been satisfied with ANY purchase experience from Best Buy in the past 10 years. And this is EXACTLY why I choose to spend my money elsewhere. You would think they would honor their policies in the name of keeping customers, but apparently we are not important enough to them.
Drove over to Wally World and they PM the $109.99 price with NO questions asked (and of course no Gift Card). Electronics employee said it was approved directly by the store manager earlier in the week.
Would try Sears to use up some gift cards, but Wally World took my ad and Sears shows out of stock on their website. Sears never gives me price match problems either.

-15.00 RZ points redeemed.

Here is the post that I was taking about.

One more reason I love CT... when it comes to "deals," people here just don't know. (or dont care)

After thinking about it for a few minutes, I believe they are really hiding them. Just adding to the conspiracy mentioned earlier.
When I went Monday, the slot with the tickets to take to the register was filled with the 360 version and once I tried to take 1 to the register, I was told they were sold out. The staff proceeds to remove all the 360 tickets and take them to the back room. I'm not sure how they could have the slot filled with 20+ tickets and be sold out unless all the boxes were out in the open which I really doubt.
When I went to another TRU, it was 1 RB2 guitar ticket left in the slot which I grabbed. The guy tried to sell me the RB1 guitar which was on a shelf out in the open along with the rest of the RB1 SE. He had to go to the back to grab a RB2 guitar and asked if it was anymore tickets for it.
I really don't need the whole set since I have the game itself but I really wanted the newer guitar. Figured I'd spend the extra $30 for the drums too.

I had the hardest time PMing this bundle. Went to 2 Best Buy's, 2 Toys-R-Us's, a CC, and Sears, and all said no. Each store PM-ing said they would do it if it was in stock, but of course Toys-R-Us put them all in the back, so they were "out of stock."
Finally went to a different CC, and they were slammed at the Service desk and checkout. Manager told CSR to call Toys-R-Us to check to see if in stock. Of course when he called two times, the line was busy, so the CSR called the manager on the radio and just said they had it in stock. SCORE! No GC, but at that point, I didn't care.
I've never had so many problems getting a PM like this item. Jeez.

My story is as follows:
I went to CC and BB and i was told by both that they do not price match with Toys R Us. I was shown the screen, and i could see that Toys R Us was not on the list. I went to the Toys R Us in Times Square in NYC and found a pile of them on the floor, and me and 4 other people on line proceeded to buy them. I think they replenish them during the course of the day without much fanfare. So, if you are a CAG in NYC, try the Toys R Us in Times Square, short of waiting on a huge line, I had no trouble getting one yesterday (12/ 18)

If you can get an ad for TRu take it to Sears. Not only do they PM but they give you 10% of the difference. Plus Wal MArt will PM, as long as there is a TRU within 50 miles of the store. At least that is what they told me at two different Wal MArts. Some also have the copetators ads in store so you don't even have to take the ad with you.
$109 for RB2 is a great deal. Thanks OP and CAG. My daughter and I will be rocking out this Christmas.

I was able to pick up the last PS3 version at TRU. Unless they got a magical shipment in (which I doubt), I think the kid that sold it to me wasn't supposed to. I had called and he said they had one in, but when I got there, he acted really resistant.
Oh and if you still need a PDF copy of the ad, Slickdeals still has it.
So has anyone found a store that will offer a halfway decent deal on trades for RB1 equipment???

I just got back from getting the 360 version. What an epic tale it was, lasting over 4 stores and 3 hours.
First we traveled 30 miles to the Toys R Us who conveniently didn't have any (despite having over 40 GH:WT bundles), but we got an ad which was important. Second we went to the Best Buy about 5 minutes from it, they had it. Here's what's interesting. They said they wouldn't match it because the TRU manager told them it was a pricing error (Collusion).
So after some breakfast we went to another Best Buy closer to our house, and there weren't any on the floor, but they were showing 11 in stock. So after an hour of them turning the store upside-down they said they didn't have any. So we called the one 30 miles North of that location, where they had them in stock and were willing to do the price match if it was verified. We got there, they had it, and this part was like pulling teeth.
It took 10 minutes to get this thing done, with 2 managers telling this guy to do it. We didn't get the gift card because the guy said we needed to buy 2 (despite it saying limit 1 per customer on the ad) although he tried to ring it up, but looked at the ad one more time for some interpretation. At this point, I was like I don't care, give me the price on it so we can go home. And that's how I got the 360 version of Rock Band 2: Special Edition
But I have to wait til Santa comes. shh.

I hate how these stores are acting like it's a big effin' problem for them to sell at the $109 price or give a gift card with it. You are SIMPLE employees, this money IS NOT coming out of your pocket. And people are acting as if $80 off is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I am indeed going to try and pick one up from my local TRU if they have it, yes pay day!!! But if they don't, i missed out. Im tired of these employees acting as if it's an error, or they supposedly "can't do it for policy reasons", or they are just greedy bitches and hoard them all. This is a great deal, but these companies need to stop acting as if they're losing out terribly. Hell, it probably cost $40, if that, to make the whole entire set in China or wherever these are made

The companies such as Bestbuy, Circuit City, and TRU are paying between $140 and $160 for each set.

Excellent point! I was thinking the same thing myself regarding cost of goods on this item. The software costs about $5 max; the instruments are certainly made in china at a total cost of probably $20; the packaging probably costs as much as the instruments at around $15 - $20 for a total of about $40 to $50 COGS. The gross margin on this for the big box retailers is still going to be a decent number, even after shaving off $80. Even if their wholesale cost is close to $100 they are not losing money on the deal, not to mention how much other merchandise is purchased as a result of a customer going to a TRU, Sears, WM, BB, or CC looking to PM this thing. The retailers will end up looking at this thing as a loss-leader(get them in with the low price item and hopefully they will drop a bunch of $$ on other stuff) when it's all said and done.
I won't cry too much as I was able to score the deal at a local WM on Monday and good luck to everyone else out there!

Probably not, after working in retail so ppl in retail can't say to me "you work in retail first then come back to me with that attitude." They'll most likely give you the cost of the game it was purchased at. So...109.99 ish. So you'd better bring your GC to buffer the Wii RB2 price.
Most places will exchange product for the lowest current value of the item. So if you returned it a day they had a super sale, you might fubar yourself. (for future reference)
Good luck though, I got the 360 version because of the DLC...and I think once the Wii version is released the lines would be a bit ridiculous.

Alright I'm thinking of going to TRU today to see if they have it (big if) or at least the ad. I suppose this is a YMMV situation, but how do you guys suggest I approach this? Does TRU have to have them in stock for Walmart/BB/Sears to PM? If they have them in stock, can they still be out of stock (hidden units)? Will a pdf printout of the ad suffice for these other stores? Which store seems to be the best as far as matching in general, matching the gc?
Whew, thanks to anyone who can answer these, I'm at work and don't want to let my boss see me trolling through this thread :P

Yeah it is, companies money is also your money. if they lose money, especially in this economic crysis, you can lose your job. Also, if you work for a company, it's your supposed job duty to do what you can for the company, not just yourself.

Thanks for the knowledge.
I bought a PS3 for myself and an extra 360... I wanted to exchange for the Wii version and give it to my friend as a gift (they only have Wii).
But i'll probably have to look at other alternatives.

Best Buy in Florence, KY price matched one today. I picked one up at lunch. No luck in getting the gift card thought. They told me $109 or $25 off the original price. This was a no brainer.

I may have to go to Langhorne though at the rate this is going they'll be gone.
I have been to every store within thirty minutes of Reading, none of them will price match or do anything since the Toys R Us won't say they have them in stock. Most places won't even call and just go and look it up on the computer and it isn't listed obviously. Unbelievable. I'm never going to get this deal. I'm done with trying as well. 'Grats to all of you who were lucky enough, though.

L.A. area CAGers still trying to track one of these down... on Tuesday I called in advance to the Stevenson Ranch TRU and talked to the CS rep who admitted that they had them but were all in back on roto hold. I politely said "so let me get this straight... you have the product that is advertised as being on sale this week... but you won't sell it?" she paused and said yes. I asked to speak with her manager, she put me on hold all of 30 seconds, and then took my name and number and said they would sell me one. I immediately drove out there, went to the video game counter, and of course the guy behind the counter didn't believe me at all. I see him walk over to another associate, hear her say "yes", he goes to the back........ BAM $109.99 plus $25 gift card. Done and done. So remember that there are ALWAYS exceptions to the rules. Give it a shot.
