Well yeah they've had 2 major label debuts, Moon & Antarctica and Good News for People Thatg Love Bad News but they also had like 3 more before that, I think there was Lonesome Crowded West, This is a Long Road..., And 1 or 2 other one's maybe. I think people consider they're new because obviously they were never a big name band before this year. I'll admit I hadn't heard them before good news but now I love them and I've since gotten moon and antarctica.

Gretchen Lieberum - Great artist with with jazzy vocals...She has free MP3's for download also. http://www.gretchenmusic.com/

I particularly like Three A.M. and Bottle Rocket. She is really easy to listen to.

I think the point was that they're not a "newer" band as was the supposed basis of this thread according to the OP. I don't think it's about being elitist...just an observation. I even made it myself earlier in the thread, and I'm not slagging anyone.

Dude, I can respect that. to each his/her own...besides its only music...any hoo, I love the misfits, black flag, operation ivy, etc like you said and i would have put that down but it said recent stuff. Oh, Good Charlotte is just a bunch of posers IMO that are trying to rip on the look that is Green Day. Sum 41 isn't bad at all.. they are actually some of the better punk/popish rock i've heard. i really don't categorize them as popish punk. Yellowcard, well let's jsut say they are an aquired taste.

As far as new stuff I'd say that The Shins are one of the best new bands out. DJ Dangermouse's Grey Album is one of the best things to come out in recent years. Oh Interpol is awesome as well. Ohh and ...and you will know us by the Trail of Dead and Sparta are sweet and have emerged in the last few years.

Why do even bother reading these music topics? /sigh I know everyone has different taste in music (and maybe not the same as me) but when I see a topic about the "Current State of Music" and see bands that have been around for a few years ((or decades (for the person that posted the Pixies)) it just outright annoys me. I wanted to read a discussion topic not another flame topic.

Back on topic

People complain about this every few years about music. In the early 70's people bitched that they did not like R&B, late 70's people hated disco, early 80's people hated new age, mid 80's rap, late 80's metal, early 90's new R&B, mid 90's alternative and rap, late 90's rap rock.....

Not everyone has the same taste in music. I have never been a fan of <b>most</b> top 40 music but it is top 40 because a lot would disagree with me.

I like how the op started out on a positive note by saying list new bands you have discovered in the last few years.

I was looking at this thread, and III was the only guy I could think of.

I am glad, however, that Hellcat/Epitaph is beginning to release more punkabilly/psychobilly stuff. Some of the older (better) stuff is difficult to find (Demented Are Go, Batmobile, etc.), but the new stuff is very good (I'm particularly fond of Tiger Army and the Horrorpops).

III is just incredible. I ran across Assjack's bootleg cd's recently, and I assure you, they are worth getting ahold of (even though I prefer his country work to his metal work).

In regards to Slipknot being from Iowa, I can only think of the film Whiteboyz, and its tale of rural oppression leading to adolescent angst. That makes Slipknot seem a wole lot funnier.

Not a new artist...but since the mention of Rockabilly here, I'll plug the new Reverend Horton Heat lp. Pretty good stuff, leaning a little more towards traditional rockabilly than some of his "punkier" early efforts. Great playing on this lp too as always.
