Looking to get a decent, durable TV stand for hopefully >$250. Anyone have any suggestions?

The TV is a 52" flat panel

For less than $250 durability is going to be your problem.

Ikea has loads.

For the basement, I snagged one of the wide all metal and glass numbers that has the pivoting pole mount for $199. It has taken a beating (from my toddler) and is still holding up.

It is great for set-up since you mount the TV and swing it left or right to make connections. The pole has bracket that sets the LCD forward about 12 inches so if you like to game a little closer than you watch TV it helps.

The pole was also hollow to snake wires through to the TV.

Target had a few, last time I looked, but none with the pole mount for the TV.

Warning about the wally-mart ones: one of the ones I looked at said it was plasma/LCD compatible but it was not VESA compatible (meaning it required an adaptor mount).

My wife's friend has this from ikea (it was a little more than you were looking at spending). Unlike most ikea stuff it was solid wood (spruce, no MDF/or plywood).
They got it when they clearanced the lighter wood finish for @$200

This is the nicest construction of anything I have seen from Ikea. Their toddler climbs all over the thing and it is very solid.

What I got from Wallymart is not on their website but still in most stores, basically it is a cheaper (and more conservatively styled) version of this:

It has squared (not oval supports) and the pole-mount is powder-coat black, not cherry.

It held all 6 of my components, a cable box and three consoles with ease. It's open storage is also something I credited with keeping my launch Xbox 360 going for over 2 years. There was enough room to slide some controllers underneath the bottom shelf as well, especially the Wii ones.

I found a really nice stand at IKEA in the as is section by the checkouts for $50 that supports my 52 very well. The Dump sometimes has as is bargains too.

I figured Ikea would have some good stuff. Unfortunately the closest one is about an hour away. Maybe I'll take a trip up there this weekend. And just to make it clear, I don't want to mount anything on a pole, I'm leaving it on the stock stand.

Mounting is cool, but not what I'm looking for.

That, I actually understand. I have this three foot long weighted base in my storage room that I am like: "WTF and going to do with this thing?"

You can't toss them because you might need them and then they look stupid if you mount the TV with it on (but I have seen that done too).

I think I am going to use one of those cantilever wall mounts next.

American Signature has a good selection:

The Crescent one is a "modern" open style (good ventilation) that accommodates lots of components and still has some storage (59 inches wide so up to a 65 inch LCD/Plasma)

Wow, that Crescent one is really nice. I'm not sure if it would hold my T.V. though. It won't let me add it to my shopping list without an account; do you know if they ship? There are no stores located around me

That's a really nice deal. It'd be so amazing to get that shipped for 17.99 somehow. 70 dollars is killer.
